i signed up for sky broadband (adsl)with sky tv and phone iam on the £17 per month deal we were told about 8mb/s when signing up for the deal the engineer said that in this area we get about 6mb/s we got 3.5mb/s from a few speed tests about 2 years ago, that was fine for my use but within the last 8 months it has become so slow and bogged down that p2p, gaming online, ftps and http pages take so long to load its like the stone age and to play games online like left 4 dead 2 is to laggy so i end up waiting til the early hours of the Morning like 2am to use at any speed so iam asking does this seam like the sky service is over subscribed and would changing isp help and could you recommend any with Unlimited or high usage limit sorry its so long and thanks in advance for your help more

Resolved Question: What should I do about my wireless internet being disrupted by my cordless phone?

My upstairs neighbors/good friends and I share an internet connection two-ways. They have the Modem (from PRIMUS), I have a 2.4GHz Broadband Router catching their signal in my living room. And my laptop has an external wireless card catching my living room router's signal...giving me THE FANTASTIC INTERNET! Today, I got cable telephony installed...right in my bedroom, next t my laptop. It's a simple cable phone line..no actual cable TV or cable internet. I just needed the phone. My cordless phone is a 2.4GHz cordless phone. Actually...there are two units. One of them is plugged right under my computer table...the other is a few feet away from my router in the living room. I heard that cordless phones can disrupt my wireless net signal cuz they both run on the same "wave" of 2.4GHz? Which kind of cordless phone would NOT disrupt my signal. Is the cable box also somehow gonna disrupt my internet? I doubt THAT...but I'm no technie. All suggestions welcome...Thank you my friends! more

Resolved Question: is the blackberry curve 8520 any good? and virgin contract?

At the moment i have a really crap phone on a £10 sim only contact that gives me unlimited texts and 200 minutes, also i get unlimited calls to other virgin mobiles because we have virgin tv and broadband. Resolved Question: Thinking of AT&T High speed internet, anyone ever had it?

i hate Cricket and their false "3G Wireless Broadband". the crap is supposed to be fast, but why does it take an hour to download a 10MB file/song at only 4 kilobits a second? thats 50 kilobits slower than f***ing dial up!!! anyway, back to the question. i've been seeing these AT&T commericals all over the net, as well as TV saying you can get high speed internet (DSL i suppose) for only $20 a month, and no home phone required. i live an apartment, it was set up for home phone service when we moved here in 2003, the line jack in the dining room is ready, where this computer is. not sure about the bedrooms, but i wouldn't need the bedroom jacks anyway. now, my main asking here is, what all do i need? i have an ethernet card installed, several USB ports, Windows XP, a Pentium 4 processor at 1.3 GHz, 512MB RAM (its an old 2001 Compaq) i have several 4 pin phone lines, ethernet cables, a couple DSL modems from my collection (or will ATT supply one?). next, when i sign up for the service online, how long does it take for them to come out and hook up the phone lines at the phone pole outside the building, and does the setup/installation cost anything? also, if i decide to move, can i just have them move my service to my new residence? i've never done this before, never even had a land line phone, so any pointers/tips would be helpful, also, if you have this service, (AT&T), what do you think of it speed wise? thanks guys/gals more

Resolved Question: Who are the most competitive/ most rated companies to get broadband packages with, and maybe phone lines.?

there are so many companies i dont know where to start..Considering the sky TV bundle, but wondering if it might be better/cheaper to get a separate phone and internet bundle with someone else..Sky is mainly tv isnt it so how good is their broadband?!thanks wolsy...is 2mb enough? is that the speed? how much can i download? I've been looking at talk talk because the previous owner was with them. £60 to reactivate line, sky would be £40. But for £6.99 they offer good broadband and phone deals. Decision depends on how good sky internet is and limit etc more

Resolved Question: Why is my Broadband slow during peak times?

I am with Sky broadband, I contacted them about this issue and apparently have the best package available in the area. Peak times according to them are between 3pm and 11pm or along those lines. Could someone please explain why they do this and how I can overcome the problem. Note. I am not allowed to change my isp as we get sky broadband at a discounted rate alongside your phone and tv package. Many thanks, Matt. Also, I must state that in non peak times the connection is perfect and I could not ask for better. I believe I have a package with Sky called "Sky Connect". more

Voting Question: What would I need for Networking capabilities in my home, (router, hub, etc)?

What would I need to hook up to three computers, wired, and possibly also a wireless laptop. It would be great if all computers have the capabilities of using the same printer. I would also like to share files and info between the computers if possible. I have : Cable internet and phone package RCA digital broadband residential voip modem box Cable wire comes in from wall, hooks into a three way splitter that goes to the TV and to the RCA modem then the modem hooks to the phone and computer. I have Linksys wireless G but it goes out all the time and setup was difficult. (The Linksys is a 6 year old model. Time for an upgrade) I also have Windows XP on one computer and Windows Vista on the other two. I may be getting a replacement on one of the Vistas and making it a Windows 7. I will be doing gaming on these computers as well. What is the best thing to get that is the most reliable and safe and..... the easiest set up as well if there is such a thing, lol. If I need to give specs on anything, please let me know. Thanks in advance for your advice :) more

Resolved Question: Sky Broadband anyone?

Anybody have any experience with Sky Broadband? I'm currently with BT Broadband and have no complaints except the cost. I have noticed I can get Sky's TV plus Broadband plus Phone and save myself about £20 per month. Only thing is I have no experience of Sky Broadband so I don't know how good it is. A good Broadband connection is important to me because I use the internet a lot. I tried reading reviews of Sky Broadband but all I found was a whole lot of people saying it's rubbish and a whole lot of others saying its great, so now I don't know who to believe! Can anyone advise me? And before you recommend Virgin media I'm not in a cable area so that won't work.... more

Resolved Question: How to connect BT Home Hub with Sky TV?

Right to set the scene, we have Sky TV, Sky Talk telephone line and just set up BT Total Broadband with the Home Hub. Our sky tv and telephone line are connected in the downstairs phone socket. Our computer is upstairs and so is the home hub. We have connected the bt home hub into the phone line upstairs. The home hub is showing that we are not connected, and we can't get online although the wireless symbol shows as working. We also received a phone handset to go with the home hub. This has a different number than our other landline. We haven't connected that as yet, because BT have said the broadband is being run through our existing landline number. You lost yet, because I am. Question is, am I doing something wrong? Should we plug the other phone in yet? And are we having this problem because the home hub is upstairs and the main land line is downstairs? Please help I am useless with this stuff and talking to BT is like banging your head against a brickwall. Thats when you can get through to them that is! more

OK, here goes. I work a very boring job graveyards, and I take my laptop with me. In my office I connect to the internet(broadband) by unplugging the phone and plugging into the laptop. Resolved Question: Am I wasting my time paying for Virgin Media TV?

I signed up a few months ago to their top tv package as I'd already had their internet package for a while which is pretty good, when I signed up for their tv packagae they said that I can have the three of them for £30 per month which sounded fantastic as I was paying £27 a month for broadband alone. I never said nothing when my first bill came in not for £30 but for £82! after the third month I quieried it and the girl just said that I'm paying for line rental which adds another £12 or so to the bill automatically but I wasn't told this when I signed up and though it was everything for £30 and feel cheated. I watch tv for ten minutes in the morning to catch the news before work and it's never on, I don't use a house phone as I have a mobile and only use my internet, can I cancel it? Resolved Question: Should I stick with Virgin or move to Sky TV?

We recently got rid of our tv package, and are on the Broadband small and normal phone service where we pay the line for £11.00 with Virgin. The question I'm asking is if we moved to Sky TV for £18.50 a month with free broadband, and unlimited calls for an extra £5 a month would it work out cheaper than staying with Virgin. Do you think you could trust Sky in keeping the prices the down or is it all just one big con like some of the companies. Please don't put any stupid answers or I'll just report them I'm getting fed up of wasting questions on stupid answers. more

Resolved Question: Is this a reasonable estimate?

I want to move out of my parents house but I've only ever lived in university halls and then with my sister so I've never 'really' paid rent properly. I'm trying to work it out, can anybody tell me if this is a reasonable estimate for a person who takes home £1200 a month: RENT - £400 per month (will be sharing with someone, whole 2 bedroom flat is £800pcm) BILLS - £150 per month (Gas, Water, Electricity, Broadband, Council Tax, TV License. We have decided we won't have a Phone or Sky) GROCERIES - £150 per month (this is for myself, I am not calculating the other girl, but I am including shared amenities like toilet roll and cleaning products) TRAVEL - £150 per month (I know this for sure, this is my zone 1 - 4 travelcard) Am I missing anything? I'm not accounting for luxuries and I have already calculated my student loan, that comes out before my take home cash. Is this a realistic estimate?I'll add £30 extra a month for mobile phone contract - thanks. I'm not accounting for things like snacks (that comes into groceries, I usually carry snacks & water in my handbag that I buy in my weekly shop as I don't like to waste money and I read free papers/ the news online). I'm definitely not accounting for social activities, that can vary month to month. more

Resolved Question: What is the best broadband available?

I'm in the UK and 5 Mb is the best I can get. I have a contract with tesco so I can't change my phone line for 12 months. So what I want to know is what is the best value broadband (cheapest whilst best quality and reliability) that doesn't involve switching landlines, has an unlimited download usage, has 5+ mb speed and offers a free wireless modem. I also have sky TV but would consider switching for a better offer and I have got an old orange broadband pack (2mb with a modem like dial-up). more

Resolved Question: Can I get Sky Broadband on a cheaper line rental than BT?

Okay here's the deal. I want to get a 3 way sky bundle. TV, Broadband and Phone. If I get sky talk i save 5 pounds on my broadband. But Line rental with BT is 11.25 per month and I was wondering if there was a cheaper line rental i could use with Sky. Plus is Sky Broadband actually good? It seemed like a really good deal because they don't have a fair usage policy on their unlimited internet package. So yeah, is sky really my best bet?Plus i heard the speed of the broadband depends on your location. Im in Zone 2 in London. Island Gardens. its near Canary Wharf. more

Resolved Question: Connect a PS3 to the internet (wired or wirelessly) HELP!!?

Ok. Here's my problem WIRED CONNECTION My computer is in one room and my tv and Ps3 in another. I have that white box for the phone/tv/broadband in both rooms. I have bought a virgin media modem so i can use it in the room with the ps3, but i have to register the modem with virgin media before i can use it, I am guessing that it will cost money to register the modem because i am already using one for the computer. Do you know if it does or if it doesn't cost money??. Then, I found out on a website that you need a router to connect to the internet. if so, i have to buy a router which is gonna cost a lot of money. Is the router to connect the pc and the Ps3 to the internet at the same time from the same modem or do you need it anyway??.Please somebody help!! Pleeeeeese!!!!!!!!!!! WIRELESS CONNECTION If i choose a wireless connection, I have to buy a router AND a access point. Which is gonna cost a hell lot a money and i can't spend any more money because i have spent a lot on the ps3 and stuff. so, somebody please help me. What should i do ??? pleeeeeese help!!!!! Thanks!!Hello again. Thank you for all the answers. I just want to ask one more thing. So, Is this what i should do... get rid of the second modem. Buy a wireless router, connect the existing modem to the router, connect the router to the pc using an Ethernet cable and connect the router to the ps3 (which is about ten meters away from the router) wirelessly using the built -in Wi-Fi in the ps3. Problem Solved!!! Is this right?? I haven't done it yet. Just making sure, before i do something stupid. Pls answer........ Thanks!! more
