Open Question: What is the best way to fix my computer?

A few months ago, I got a new broadband package on my pc. Since then, my computer has been very slow. It is a old PC and hasn't got much RAM, (only 256 mb) so perhaps adding RAM could make it better? I don't know... any ideas?  more

Open Question: Do I need an internal modem in order to plug into an external Broadband one?

I'm building a new computer (well, if I can get enough money/learn how to do it) and I'm wondering whether or not I need to buy one of those internal 56k modems. Currently I use one of those thick cords with the identical plastic plugs at each end. (I can't for the life of me remember what the cord is called). It goes from a port on my computer to an identical port on my Broadband modem. Is it necessary to have the internal modem or will the port be there/work without it? If I bought a wireless network card (I have a wireless network but have a router to plug into also) could I plug an Ethernet cord into it if I wanted?  more

Open Question: Can not connect to my Wireless?

__________________________________________ Router: Wireless-G Broadband router WRT54G __________________________________________ Okay so I was trying to setup a secured network for my wireless because I'm always having people suck it up and always log onto it, because it is an open wireless connection. Whenever I tried to set up the secured network it would let me connect however, whenever I did it had limited or no access, meaning I was connect but I was unable to get on the net and so forth. I tried to access it from my other laptop and I couldn't get on it either. So, I unplug everything, reset it, and it's back to normal. Despite it being back to normal I still get limited to no access to the net... and it is now an open port without even setting up the secured network for it. I have reset it multiple times trying to figure out whats wrong. I have accessed it from the IP, looked over all the settings. - I am not very literate with it, but I try to go off my knowledge. Here is what I have. SETUP ________ Router name: WRT54G Host Name: Domain Name: MTU: AUTO SIZE: 1500 Local IP Address: 192.168.1.1 (This the IP I put in my web browser to access my router) DHCP Server: Enable Wireless ________ Wireless Network Mode: Mixed SSID: (Name here) Wireless SSID Broadcast: Enable Status: SES inactive just the basics. I jump over to status and under the router tab it shows the firmware version, mac address, router name. underneath it I have login type. and everything following it such as IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway are '0.0.0.0'. Beneath that I have DNS 1, DNS 2, and DNS3, those are blank. and then MTU that says '1500'. If I go to the next tab, local network, it shows the mac address, ip address, subnet mask, DHCP server is enable, start ip address, and end ip address. those all list the ips and so forth. when I click the wireless tab under status, the last tab, i get the mac address, mode is mixed 11/54Mbps, SSID, DCHP server enable, channel 6, and encryption function disable. I have tried to reset, renew, and release the DHCP. I have no idea what to do, I didn't hook my wireless up a friend had done it for me... so if anyone could help please let me know. I would appreciate specific details to these problems. I am currently running on another wireless network so that I can figure all of this out. If you'd like you can contact me VIA MSN as bluehymn@hotmail.com I prefer to discuss this as quick as possible, but posting is fine too. Please and thank you!!  more
