I am using PLDT (DSL) broadband connection in the Philippines. Changing the router password is not helping......any help would be appreciated. Thanks! moreOpen Question: Does adding RAM increase speed of broadband internet or streaming video?
I just upgraded laptop from 1 to 2 gig of RAM to improve over all performance. Does this help boost speed or downloads of broadband DSL or slower levels of cable modem speeds? This is for my apartment, not for a home or business. Is there anything I can do to boost a slower broadband connection ? moreVoting Question: why does my netzero keep disconnecting every ten minutes?

I noticed only when I go to google.com it take soooo long to load. Any of websites works great. This hasn't happened before. Also i have DSL Broadband. I dont think it has something to do with the internet. But something else. Does anyone know? What should I do??? moreVoting Question: Good (reliable) internet providers?
We have Verizon, but recently it's been unreliable and very laggy. We've called them, and they say it's not our router, it's something blocking the internet from getting to the router. They keep "fixing" it, which only ends up making it worse. Now, it's to the point where the connection will cut out every half hour, and only one or two computers will be able to connect. When it is working, it's incredibly slow, and any games I can't even attempt to play things like Uncharted 2, Resident Evil 5, and Left 4 Dead online because it's so weak. So now, we're looking for better services, DSL or Broadband, of course. If it's any help, we currently have about 4 laptops, 2 desktops, a PS3, 2 xbox 360s, a Wii, and 3 iPhones connected to it. So, obviously, it has to be something that can handle frequent use and online gaming. Also, something that has widespread service. I've already checked Comcast and AT&T, neither give service in our area. moreVoting Question: If you are in the rural country areas of Texas, that dont have high speed internet, can you get by satellite?
If you are in the rural country areas of Texas, that dont have high speed internet, can you get by satellite? Can you get high speed Internet by satellite? Or is it only available through DSL, Cable, and off 3G like Verizon Wireless Broadband? moreResolved Question: Can my apartment complex force me to get satellite?
I am moving to an apartment next month and I just found out that if I want tv/internet I HAVE to get satellite through DirectTV and I HAVE to get DSL internet through Qwest. I don't want satellite because I don't want to be tied to a contract. I know you can go month to month with them but it is too expensive. I would also be willing to forget tv and just get a netflix subscription and have it stream to my tv but that requires a broadband internet connection- and they are making me get DSL if I want internet. I spoke with Comcast (who is the cable company assigned to the area) and they said that although they are assigned to the area they do not have permission from the apartment complex to install there. I know the FCC prevents apartments from discriminating against satellites but is there a similar rule for discriminating against cable? Any advice or thoughts?Ok I didn't know broadband and DSL are the same thing! Well then at least I know I can do the netflix thing. But I would still rather get cable and not be forced into Satellite. To Wildcat: I am also a property manager and that is how I know about the law that says apartments have to let you hook up a satellite. You can read about it here: http://www.allbusiness.com/real-estate-rental-leasing/real-activities-related-to/316173-1.html moreResolved Question: SAS quarantines Trojans - now blank screen at Startup WinXP?
I'm panicking. Ever since I removed the old Avast and downloaded new Avast (also tried Avira) into Download Files folder, then tried to run either Avast or Avira, a message displayed re: Can't install due to corrupted files. Antispywares such as Malbytes (or was it SAS) kept remaining "locked-up" and even CTL/ALT/DEL plus EndNow wouldn't work. The only way I could shut the system would be to turn off the power on surge protector (even the power-off button failed to work). So I tried Super AntiSpyware. I downloaded the latest definitions from SAS. SAS then picked up 4 Trojans & asked if I wish to quarantine the corrupted files (which were in the Windows system). I chose YES. The corrupted files now in quarantine are: (1) c:\windows\system32\lowsec (2) ditto\lowsec\local.ds (3) ditto\lowsec\user.ds (4) ditto\lowsec\user.ds.lll Ever since then, I had further problems. First Win XP stating it cannot reinstall, and asking me if I want to restore system to the point prior to the problem. I chose YES. Ever since that, XP will not start up except in Safe Mode. It won't startup Normally (totally blank screen). I don't know what to do now. I shiver at even the thought of complete reinstallation, since that's always been a horrible ordeal for me, even when I was finally able to reach the Microsoft guy years ago to help walk me thru it. Just dealing with the various personnel until reaching someone halfway knowledgeable took hours and hours & endless sweat. I don't want to go thru that again. P.S. please bear with me. I'm on very slow dialup, and using my other [tiny thinkpad] computer which seems to be suffering chronically with very slow connection problems (i.e. the double-computer icon at lower right of screen is always chronically with a red-X (local area connection unplugged). I've no idea why, but maybe that's why most of the time i have trouble getting connected on this comjputer. Also note: I'm in a Catch22 (or maybe catch33 or catch44) - like this: I'm ill from EMF sensitivity due to overexposure in no small part due to slow dialup, but also many years before that of overexposure to EMFs of word processing on CRTs etc. I missed the boat with getting good deal on DSL/broadband. Verizon's good deals of Dry Loop DSL / locked in for life / seem to be over. Anyway, since my system was always so problematic, why should I have bothered with seeking broadband? And why bother getting another system (like maybe Linux or whatever) if I don't have broadband anyway, and I already got EMF illness due to very-slow dialup causing overexposure to computer EMFs? I doubt anyone can relate to my Catch 44, but that's how it is, and that's why I'm always scrambling 1000 paces behind everyone else. There were other [personal] factors also distracting me from keeping up. It has built up to crisis proportions, since Internet by now seems to be a necessity vs. luxury, so i'm at wits end how best to extract myself & catch up with the world, without going broke.EMPHASIS ONCE AGAIN: I'd appreciate answer other than "clean reinstall". Please see my original request, for further detail why. moreResolved Question: how to load balance or use simultaneoulsy two internet broadband connections?
i have Airtel broadband and a Tata broadband connection. i have around 50 pcs connecting through a airtel broadband connection. both are dsl connections with my phone line going into dsl modems and a ethernet cable going from dsl modem directly into switch. currently only airtel connection is connected with static ip on my private lan and usings the airtel isp DNS servers as dns ip address and the default gate way as 192.168.1.1 (ip add of the dsl modem). All Pcs are connected in a workgroup. when in full use my users complain of certain web pages not opening. when i ping internet addresses like yahoo or google i get 2 reply packets and 2 lost packets. i suspect that a single broadband connection is not able to sustain 50 simultaneous downloads/browsing. can i use the tata broadband connection directly in my switch to loadbalance the airtel one. if yes how to configure the settings on my tata DSL modem. help needed urgently. thankyou all to those who reply. moreVoting Question: I can't connect to the internet using Ubuntu 9.10?

Starting last Sunday, , my internet has been way slower than usual. Today, it has been soooo slow, when im on Facebook, it will keep saying that it cant load up my friends list. Then when im talking to friends, it keeps saying please wait, and it will take like a 1 min just to type in a word to my friend. Before last Sunday my internet was good and fast, not super fast but as fast as my internet can be. I dont have Cable or Dsl, i have Rogers Portable internet, wireless broadband. It is ususally around 1-3 mbps download, but since Sunday it has been like 0.23 download speed, and today its like 0.14 download speed. My ping since last sunday has been around 660 ms. It is SOOOOO slow, and today it has gotten to the point where im getting p****** off. My computer has lots of gb's it has no viruses, and it is running safari, so whats going on. The weird thing is the wireless internet on my ipod touch is running as fast as it has always ran. So...im stumped. Around 3 days ago, at like 6:30 in the morning, i tested my speed, and my download speed was 3.30, that is super fast for my internet. It seems fast in the morning, but during the day it's crap. moreResolved Question: can i connect 2 conmputers to the interent using 2 modems on a single phone line?

Netflix videos always start out great, but every 5-20 minutes it will stop and re-buffer saying that my internet connection has slowed and that it's adjusting my connection to prevent further delays. The online player on Fox's website is supposed to self-adjust, but it doesn't, it just sticks every few seconds for a few seconds and then plays a bit, unless I pause it & let the buffer fill up, then play it til it's empty and repeat. Hulu.com has the same story as fox. Fox's FAQ states * Processor: AMD or Intel Single Core or greater * Operating System: Windows XP (Home, Media Center and Professional with Service Packs and all Microsoft Updates), Windows Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Ultimate or Enterprise editions) * RAM: 256 MB minimum (512 MB recommended) * Video Card: 32 MB minimum (128 MB recommended) * Browser: Internet Explorer (version 6 and 7) or Mozilla Firefox (version 2.0 and 3.0). * Screen Resolution: 800 x 600 minimum (1280 x 1024 recommended) * Internet Connection: Broadband/High Speed (DSL, Cable, T1, etc.). Dial-up connections are not supported. Hulu states * Adobe Flash Player 10.0.22 or above * Internet Explorer 6.0 or above, Firefox 2.0 or above, or Safari 3.0 or above * Microsoft Windows XP SP2 or later, Macintosh OS X 10.4 or above, or Linux * JavaScript and Cookies must also be enabled In addition, you will need an internet connection with sufficient bandwidth. Our videos stream at 480Kbps or 700Kbps, and we'll adjust our stream based on your bandwidth, but we recommend a downstream bandwidth of 1,000Kbps or higher for the smoothest playback experience. I have windows XP SP3 Intel Pentium 4 CPU 1.80 GHz 512 MB of Ram Video card 64 mb Firefox 3.5.7 Screen resolution 1280x1024 speedtest.net says my download speed is 1.42 Mb/s and upload 5.45 Mb/s the speed test link on my ISP's website says 7847 kbps download and 12917 kbps upload YES I know it's bizarre that my upload is way bigger than my download but it's been this way for a long time, I didn't switch them. I'll be playing MAG for awhile then later the game just disconnects and says "game server was lost" or "please check your connection." Then after that i have to reset my connection so the internet can work again. Im not sure whether my connection is dsl or broadband but i use this thing called "ClearWire" and connect that to a "Linksys Network Hub" and then connect from the network hub to my PS3. I connect all of these with ethernet cables. But this only happens to the game MAG. With any other PS3 online games i have, it works fine without any problems. I was a kid in the 90's (and a little kid in the 80's). I've grown up completely surrounded by electronics. So I don't understand why some people think that there wasn't modern technology in the 90's. I've been going on computers since I was like 8 years old. I first started going on the internet when I was 16, around 1994. I played video games all the time, and in the mid-90's, there were games with 3d graphics like Nintendo 64, PlayStation, etc. I think even the X-Box first came out sometime in the mid or late 90's. The first 3d game system, called Neo Geo came out in the early 90s when I was about 13. Google started around 1997 or 1998. And I think eBay has been around since 1996. Computers had 3d accelerated video cards by the late 90's. One of my friends had a computer with 1 GB of RAM in 1999. Broadband (DSL) internet service first came out in the late 90's and I knew a few people who had it around 1999. Some people (especially kids) think that they're the first ones who have ever downloaded music. But I started downloading music and even movies around 1998 or 1999. Does everyone remember Napster? So I don't get it. Why do people (especially kids) act as if all this stuff is new and they're the first ones to ever use the internet, download music, etc. I've been doing all this for over 10 years. I was going in chat rooms when I was only 16. Personal computers have been around for over 20 years, and the internet has been around for over 15 years. So I don't get it. There were computers, the internet was around, we had 3d video games, we were downloading music, etc etc...so why do some people still think there wasn't modern technology in the 90's. I talked to one girl who actually thought the internet wasn't around in the 90's! What do you think it is? Selective memory? All the bogus advertisement and fads that make some people think that none of this stuff was around? Maybe to brainwash people into thinking that they're buying or using something new that's been around forever? People who really believe the internet didn't exist before MySpace? moreVoting Question: Which Dell laptop is better deal or computer (Walmart or Best Buy)?

We have a Linksys wireless-G 2.4 GHz broadband router. At times we have 3 people online at the same time. Two play online peer games. At times, it seems more like dialup than high speed dsl (it's the highest offered in this area--over 700 (I think they said it was 900 ???). I'm getting pretty frustrated with the speed. It only seems to effect my speed, not the other two. My system has the router, etc hooked up to it. My system is clean -- recently reinstalled everything but the problem still occurs. I called my internet provider and they said that the the speed wasn't what it should be. They (Embarq/Century Link) had be open some tool online that measured the speed and it was only about half. I removed a filter device from the phone line (forgot to remove it when I cancelled telephone service) but it's still a quarter short of what it should be and the tech couldnt' figure out why. The company changed to Centuy Link so that tool is no longer available or at least I can't find it. My broadband service is at&t DSL. My Netgear WPN824v2 router is connected to the SpeedStream 5100 modem. The DSL service was down recently but has since been restored. at&t has also helped me reset the modem over the phone. However, I'm no longer able to get connected through the router after the reset. On Saturday my family and I dumped our Qwest DSL internet and got Bresnan broadband. The modems are hard-wired into my PC, and is working perfectly. However, my mom's laptop cannot connect to the internet. On the laptop's connection screen, it says that the computer is connected to our network, but we cannot use the internet, getting a 'Cannot connect' or 'address not found' message. The cable guy came back over to try and figure it out, to no avail. Together we brainstormed 3 possible ideas as to what is preventing the laptop from fully connecting: 1. There is some old Qwest software on the laptop that we cannot find, which is eating up the signal. 2. Several ports on the laptop or my Desktop may be off, which we will need to turn on for the signal to get through. Which ports, I have no idea. Or 3. The wifi card in the laptop is outdated, not compatible, ect, etc. what-have-you. ANYONE with ANY idea as to how to fix this, a reply with said information would be greatly appreciated.EDIT: Both computer's are running Vista The wireless router is from Netgear, and the modem is a Motorola. moreVoting Question: high speed internet help? and suggestions....?

The only thing I can get is charter cable but they're cust. Service sucks. And I'd had problems with them before. Is there anyone else that can give me reliable high speed? I signed up for broadband for the first time 3 days ago. I have a single PC modem which has 5 lights on it, power, ethernet, usb, dsl and internet. I have always had the power and ethernet lights on and today we got the dsl light on for the first time. I called the helpline because the internet light still isnt on and we cant use our broadband to browse the internet, it says local only. They told me the connection SHOULD be up and running by 5pm tonight. It is now 10.15pm and we still have no broadband. They said to ring back after 5pm but i was out for dinner and only juts got home, so i will ring back in the morning. When i go to start>network and then click on the broadband picture thing it brings up a webpage and it says disconnected and i press connect and it says "Connection could not be established: Disconnected by user" so i pressed details and it says Test Results DSL - connected ATM Could not send loopback cell. PPP Your connection is currently down. i have no idea what any of that means. Im just wondering how i can get my connection to work. Especially since they said that the connection should have been established by 5pm tonight when it now 10.15pmi have unpluged all the plugs to the modem and computer, restarted the modem and computer, reset the modem and nothing worked. I was on the phone to an operator for about 30 minutes and we couldnt get it to work moreResolved Question: Something is wrong with my internet connection, I need some help?
I'm hooked on with MSN dial-up, and it normally should be getting about 40kbps. But for some reason it's way down in the 15-20 range, and if I'm lucky in the 30s. I thought it was my modem so I bought a new one, thank god I didn't spend much on it because it didn't help at all. I switched the phone line wire, no change. And I get the "Cannot find server, page cannot be displayed" error just about every page I visit. It's been losing the connection a lot more often now as well. It can't be a virus or malware, I've scanned with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Avira Anti-Virus, and Super Anti-spyware Free Ed. All with updated definitions and everything, it's clean. So I've got it narrowed down to this. It's either something screwy going on with MSN, or maybe it's my hard drive needing reformatted. I have a habit of system restoring every month or so and it messes up my updates and .NET frameworks and stuff like that. But the reason I don't just reformat is because I have an OEM version of WindowsXP, thus I don't have an install disk to bring it back to life. But on the other hand, I have another hard drive with Puppy Linux installed and it drops the connection as well, just not as much. So it's gotta be MSN. I just wanted to see if there's anyhting I can do before I call them up. As a side question, how is Netzero? MSN has been charging $23 a month, which is outrageous compared to Netzero's $9.95 a month. I've been thinking really hard about switching. I'd go with something faster like broadband but it's a bit too expensive for me at the moment. And DSL isn't even available in my area.. moreResolved Question: DSL light on but internet light off on broadband modem?

My sons were here and this is what happened: On Thursday, one of my two sons came over and brought his new Notebook computer and X-Box. He used BOTH his computer and X-Box LIVE while I had MY home PC running (Win-XP/Verizon-DSL-NOT FIOS)....NO big problem with any speed or lag. When my older son came yesterday, as SOON as he turned his laptop on, he could NOT get an Internet connection. After moving it, he DID get a connection, but it would take about 5 minutes for a page to load...SAME as with MY PC and the X-BOX-LIVE was lagging & the lights on BOTH the DSL modem and Linsky router were flashing RAPIDLY... AS SOON as they left, steady lights and normal Internet speed returned to my PC. This is the first time my older son brough his NEW HP-Laptop here. Unfortunately he had to leave early because he has a project due to school Monday. ANYONE have ANY idea what caused this AND what I can do to PREVENT this in the future? A better ROUTER?? Hi there, Currently, my mom has a Verizon Wireless Broadband Card with a 5GB monthly limit. As of now, she has had it for more than a year and is dissatisfied. I try to tell her that we should get a modem but she insists that we can't get one up here in Montana. I told her that the one that I have down at my house in Texas is that AT&T 2Wire DSL Gateway Model 2701HG-B and is a very good modem. It has only disconnected a few times. So here comes the questions: 1: Is it possible to get that modem here in Montana and have internet connection? 2: Can I just go buy the modem, bring it home, and set it up or do I need to buy a service plan from AT&T? Thanks in advance. She has a Verizon phone so it doesnt show that they have that phone on account. moreResolved Question: PS3 DNS Error Code 80710102 Help?

I have a 1500/256 connection and the only time that it reaches full speed is if I download something from microsoft.com. Speedtest.net and a few others said I have a normal conneciton, but if I download from other sites it is just like 30-40 kbps. I live in Australia with Bigpond Broadband and DSL-504T router. The other computers can download full speed at any website 140-150 kbps. On P2P networks, suck as uTorrent to download torrents, my speed reaches full as speed as long as there are enough seeders. i hate Cricket and their false "3G Wireless Broadband". the crap is supposed to be fast, but why does it take an hour to download a 10MB file/song at only 4 kilobits a second? thats 50 kilobits slower than f***ing dial up!!! anyway, back to the question. i've been seeing these AT&T commericals all over the net, as well as TV saying you can get high speed internet (DSL i suppose) for only $20 a month, and no home phone required. i live an apartment, it was set up for home phone service when we moved here in 2003, the line jack in the dining room is ready, where this computer is. not sure about the bedrooms, but i wouldn't need the bedroom jacks anyway. now, my main asking here is, what all do i need? i have an ethernet card installed, several USB ports, Windows XP, a Pentium 4 processor at 1.3 GHz, 512MB RAM (its an old 2001 Compaq) i have several 4 pin phone lines, ethernet cables, a couple DSL modems from my collection (or will ATT supply one?). next, when i sign up for the service online, how long does it take for them to come out and hook up the phone lines at the phone pole outside the building, and does the setup/installation cost anything? also, if i decide to move, can i just have them move my service to my new residence? i've never done this before, never even had a land line phone, so any pointers/tips would be helpful, also, if you have this service, (AT&T), what do you think of it speed wise? thanks guys/gals moreResolved Question: Extending wifi signal from neighbors?
Hello, Ive been without internet for about a month. For some reason I cannot get DSL internet at my house even though people down my road can get it so thats no longer an option. My family also cant get cable internet unless we have the lines put in which comcast said would cost $3000, since our house is pretty far off the road. So my mom got one of those sprint mobile broadband USB modems for now, which would be fine but there is a 5GB data limit per month and I want to play my PS3 online.(Now I have the new call of duty sitting there collecting dust) However, my grandma lives next door to me and can get cable internet. If she gets that, would there be anything to boost the wifi signal from her house to my house (she would not use the internet at all). Her house is not that far away, but there are a few big trees between the houses, which can hurt the signalJT tech, the reason we can't have cable is because we built our own house 10 years ago and for some reason have never had cable lines put in, and our house is pretty far off the road. My mom called them and asked and they sent us a letter with the cost... moreResolved Question: I've bsnl 750+ unlimited broadband plan?

Moved to a rural area, and anyone living in the USA knows rural internet service is for the most part, non-existant except for dial-up. I wouldn't trade where I live to have DSL again, but if I could have my cake and eat it too...wouldn't complain Was approached by a small company saying for $200.00 one time set-up fee and $59.95 a month I could get 1mbps the Pro package is (gasp!) $79.95 for 2 mbps per second. They state it is comparable to cable broadband or 5xs the speed of DSL (!!!??). Would I be able to view videos or movies with either of these speeds? When I had DSL in the suburbs I got 3kbps and it worked fine for both those needs. Dial-up drives me nuts, but if I still am not able to view videos or movies why pay $60 or $80 per month?? Thanks for any and all serious input. :) moreResolved Question: xbox live mw2, ill have 2-3 connection bars but still lag like crazy, whats going on? My NAT type is open.?
OK, so i have Xbox live, and i have Modern warfare 2. Ever since ive had xbox live(almost a year ago), ive never really had any lag issues, connection problems. I have Rogers Portable Internet(wireless broadband), its not cable or dsl. Sometimes when im playing on xbox live like Cod 4, ill have 1 connection bar but ill NEVER see myself lagging. Just starting yesterday when i was playing Modern warfare 2, i had 2-3 connection bars and i was seing myself lag, ide lag like from left to right non-stop. Though how come im lagging with 2-3 connection bars? wtf is going on? My NAT type is open, no one else is on the internet, and the host's connection is FINE cuz everyone else's connection is good. Though NO ONE ELSE IS ON THE INTERNET SO DONT SAY THAT, lol. The hosts connection is fine and my NAT type is open, whats causing this lag? I dont want to phone my isp. ALSO, when im on the internet, my web browsing is still as fast as it always is so my internet cant be down. moreTop Dsl Broadband Internet Links
