Open Question: Reconfigure a Linksys Router?
I have a Linksys Wireless-G 2.4 GHz (54Mbps) Broadband Router that needs to be reconfigured it connects this way. DSL Modem to Linksys Router (Gives 2 Laptops and Wii Internet) to Dell Computer (gives our computer internet) moreOpen Question: What are some reputable cable/broadband internet service providers?
My specific area does not receive a good DSL signal, and dial-up is my last resort. I know that cable internet services are way pricier than DSL, but what are some that I can research? I've already looked at Comcast/TimeWarner... who else? I live in Los Angeles. moreResolved Question: Proxy?I click education website,my internet light disappears,DSL light start blinking, negotiate Internet DSLAM?
When I see certain youtube on political studies on the internet, my internet light suddenly disappears and DSL is negotiating for DSLAM My telephone bill and internet service was settle promptly this month through telecoms, is govt setting up proxy server for all malaysians in Telekom on political news and youtube? Why is my modem try to negotiate and renegotiate with the server every 5 to 10minutes and get the internet and lose the connection and renegotiate connection again on broadband service? Can international politics be allowed to view in youtube? DSL keeps negotiating with DSLAM after 5 to 10 minutes and I get connected and disconnected from TELEKOM, It is a wired router modem. No wireless modem currently. Modem is working fine but server connect and reconnect sounds like a network or proxy issue.Guess I am above 18 years on international political education Can ISP secure website connection instead of asking the proxy on approval. I need a stable internet light like what i experienced in the morning. Thanks, telekom malaysia for knowing i am above 18 years old and stable internet light in the morning for seeing youtube Can I have a stable internet light at night too and not negotiating using DSL on every website i visit to get the internet light, sounds like i am behind a big proxy server now for every website i visit. If too many proxy servers, then a lot of censorship and i feel like news is fake on the internet, i only believe in news without proxy, like the one in Singapore telecoms where I get connected without negotiating with DSLAM on any educational/international political website, when and only immediate parents is doing the filtering service for Singapore on all their children irregardless of whatever websites, Currently I am detecting a finger proxy behind my PC,and not happy for the control on my international news what i can see and what i cannot see. Thanks telekom, at 12:30am finally my DSL light is stable, not negotiating through many govt proxy, by my telecoms server tool Telekom Malaysia, please do not play proxy proxy anymore because i have tools to detect from server to server and i did not apply for any filtering services because i am above 18 years old. thanks forthe proxy let off after 2 hour struggle on multiple proxy negotiations to see http://www.youtube.com in puchong house Please list down websites you intend to filter for Malaysia and let us know the reason of filtering http://www.youtube.com videos because what we see we understand, what we cannot see we will ask Telekoms because we paid for the entire world wide web why is youtube website missing hidden behind proxy server suddenly and gets stable after 2 hour? Telekoms can list down what they want to censor and why you censor certain youtube videos so that we do not want to be behind a filtering proxy to be fair to us? So I'm finally getting an xbox 360. There's only one problem. where i live there is no way to get a broadband/dsl connection. so i have no access to xbox live. So i was wondering. what are some long lasting single player games with decent replay value for the 360? Or games that have good splitscreen/co-op i'm already considering Dead Rising and The elder scrolls IV: oblivion my favorite genres are first/3rd person shooters and adventure/rpg. I know it's hard to find shooters with a decent single player these days. it seems developers focus all their effort into online play with shooters. moreVoting Question: How do I set up a wireless router in my home if I have a DSL connection?
I'm thinking of purchasing the Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router (http://accessories.dell.com/sna/PopupProductDetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&cs=19&sku=A1620475&price=50). Do I have to involve my dsl provider at all (i.e. pay more to them)? Or, does this just wirelessly spread my current signal throughout the home? If I purchase this, do I just replace this box with the one my dsl provider gave me and then follow the set-up instructions? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. moreOpen Question: Can I make my laptop wireless with just an internet modem and a wireless router but no pc?
My home computer is a laptop that I normally just plug directly into my dsl internet modem using an ethernet cable. I was given a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband router (model WRH54G). When I attempt to connect to the internet, my laptop recognizes the Linksys wireless connection but won't let me connect to the internet. When I tried to troubleshoot through the Linksys website (after plugging the ethernet cable back into my laptop), I could only find instructions that show a router connected to an internet modem and then to a pc. I don't have a pc. Is there any way I can use this router so my laptop will be wireless? My laptop has Wireles LAN built right in and I have had no problem connecting to other wireless networks so the problem isn't lack of a wireless card. I tried turning both the modem and the router off then on with no success. I run Windows Vista and in the Network and Sharing Center, the diagram shows the following: my laptop-----linksys7---X---internet When I click on the X to diagnose the problem, it tells me that a Local Area Connection is unplugged. I have DSL through my phone co. so my phoneline is plugged into the modem and the ethernet cable is plugged into the router. moreVoting Question: broadband in a rural area?

I'm jealous of everyone I know having cable or DSL internet. I downgraded from cable internet to dial-up when I moved 2 years ago (a few months after I got my 360). moreVoting Question: i get free employee BT broadband,?
but only use my line for the DSL, In theory i could cease my contract, which would cease the phone side of things I only need NDT. (no dial tone). my connection from the BT dslam would still be present, unless a frames engineer switches it back to a DEL or re-uses the equipment. i am an openreach engineer, living on a new build site, with plenty of spare e sides and d sides, my main question beng, if i still rent my dsl from bt (although free) do i still rent the pair of wires from the the exchange to the master socket, or are they going to get pinched by a fellow engineer looking for a quick clear (working smart, not hard, as i do, also). or maybe do they become a stop then spare on CSS database, and then through to the C.R.O, (the central records office) that re-use my pair?. I'M FED UP OF PAYING LINE RENTAL FOR COMPLETELY UNUSED DIAL TONE........ i figure if i tag my line in the cab and the DP, the bas!@rds i work with will pinch it for a laugh.. can i keep my dsl equipment reserved if i dont pay for dial tone?????????????? moreResolved Question: ISPs Other Than Cable/Telco Monopoly?
How or where can I find other ISPs other than the local cable and telecom monopolies? Back in the days of dialup thelist.internet.com was great for this, and still is, but now lists the same national listings no matter how much you narrow it down; even if you click Wireless, all the same ISPs show up. Barring that, are there any low priced broadband ISPs in the 504 area code (new orleans) that are better or cheaper or faster other than cox and bellsouth/att besides satellite? Do all the national DSL providers like Covad etc... actually offer service everywhere even though they list every area code? moreVoting Question: Connecting to XBox Live with a wireless internet connection?
Hi, I will be getting a X-Box 360 in the near future and would like to check out X-Box Live. I do not have cable or dsl. I have my broadband internet service through Alltel. I know i have high speed internet from grande, but i need to know if i have dsl or broadband etc. moreVoting Question: XBOX 360 internet connection help?
This is sort of a weird question but, here we go. (I'm no good at things like this, so please bear with me.) I'm going to buy an XBOX 360 Pro sometime right after Christmas. It includes an "ethernet cable," which I guess lets your 360 go online, if your computer and your 360 are like 10 feet apart. The problem is, my computer is on my house's main level, but the 360 is going in my room which is upstairs (BUT! my room is almost directly above the computer room. I would say the ceilings in my house are about 9' up). My friend's 360/Computer are on opposite sides of the house, but on the same level. He uses a "Microsoft Broadband Networking XBOX Wireless Adapter" to get his 360 online. I plan on getting this one, since the new 360 one is $90 and the one he uses is $50. I have Verizon DSL on my computer. (Again, I'm not good with these things so I probably couldn't give you all the info off the top of my head...) So my question is, will this get my 360 online, and how can I do it? Or, is there any cheaper, not-too-complicated way to do this? Thank you very much. moreVoting Question: High Speed Internet for Simonton, Texas?
I have hughnet internet, and there is a FAP (Fair Access Policy) Thresh Hold on the service that if I use 169MB within a 24 hour period I will get less than dial up speeds. I clocked my exceeded thresh hold and it was at 5KB/s if that! I understand that this is for a good purpose, but it sucks when you need every bit of bandwidth you can get! I can't play Ultima Online anymore, and I cant use Netflix internet movie viewer, etc. These are all things I would like to do daily! However, hughes and the FAP want to make sure that they charge me for my arms and legs, and not give me anything good in return. So my question is this... Is there any broadband ISP's around SImonton/Wallis, TX that provide DSL/cable/FO/etc. for this area? I HATE HUGHES and want something that is better suited to my needs. Tried AT&T and they said no... Tried Earthlink... no. Wild Blue... no better! Still has an FAP, if its by satellite, I don't want it! So please locals! HELP a local rural dweller out!! Thanks! neither suddenlink, nor Embarq, nor Comcast serve either. "I'm so depressed!" (*Chunk*) moreResolved Question: Computer loading Youtube Videos Slowly?

And please, no one-sentence answers from people who are not even certain and just want points moreResolved Question: How do I set up a password protected wireless network at home?
I bought the wireless router from a friend and I have 2 disks that came with it. I've been using it for over a year but the signal is unsecured and I know that neighbors are using it, so I'm always turning it off when I leave. I only own and use a laptop computer here at home and the Router is a "Zyxel" 802.11g Wireless Broadband Router. I use DSL and my operating system on this laptop is XP. I'm not too computer "savy" lol, but if someone can help me get it to the point where a passkey is needed to log on to the signal, I would feel alot better. I'm afraid I might make a mistake if I pop one of the 2 cds in and then I end up not being able to use the signal at all lol. Thank you so much. moreVoting Question: bridging broadband connections?

OK, I was looking at Hughes Net for a really long time because Cable and DSL with normal companies was out of the question due to living on a farm in the middle of Michigan. But I heard that satellite internet, like Hughes Net, is really bad for playing online games because of the lag. So, now I'm thinking about the alltel wireless internet USB things that you just plug into the USB port on your computer. It's the same price, so it looks pretty good. I just have a few questions: I have alltel cell phones, and I get like 4 bars at the computer, so if I put the USB into my desktop will I be getting really good reception from the alltel tower (only about 20 miles south of my house)? Like somewhere in the 1-3 Mbps? Will it be better than Hughes Net? I would get the UTStarcom UM175 USB wireless thing. Under the map, I would have access to broadband (EVDO Rev O) Thanks. I absolutely, positively, have no more than $16 dollars a month to spend on internet access!! I would like to know my options for dial up in the "rural" area I live in (Bend, Oregon). Where can I buy a modem that works on my computer from 2002 (USB 1.0 only, 1.7 Ghz celeron, etc.)? I am on a fixed income, so don't even mention broadband, DSL, replacing computer, or "getting a better job" (the latter of which causes me to lose Medicaid, resulting in $1000 in medical expenses every month down the drain). My medical condition is uncurable, meaning I am doomed to this income for life! Also, there are no wifi hotspots in this town that actually work! moreResolved Question: wireless router....hmmm. which one is best for me? i need a cheap wireless router. ?

Hello everyone hopefully someone can answer this best answer gets 10 points.. here goes.. Awhile back AT&T installed new equipment next to the main telephone box (where all the neighborhood lines meet) and this occured last oct of 07. I saw an ATT guy working on the box next to it. I asked him.. because my family wanted dsl.. he said this box "can be used for dsl and ATT will more than likely implement Their U-verse. Television internet and voice over the phone line. He said.. it will be deployed sometime in late mar-apri of 08. Its not oct of 08.. Still no DSL and when I call customer service they say we cant get it. Right now im using sprint's wireless broadband but the latency is horrible for gaming. Who do I need to get in contact with?.. Customer service isnt working.. And there are countless people i can name who would love to have the service. Its kinda out in the country, but he told me this box will run off of a main line thats only 8 miles away off a fiber line. Any suggestions or comments would be helpful. I will go all the way to the top with ATT to get this service started. Sad thing is you would think ATT would like to make money.. apparently not because the dslam box just sits there. The ATT guy opened it up for me.. There is stuff running.. just fans and what not, but nothing is plugged in. Cards that go inside are missing. And the instruction manual was still sitting inside the door. Cable is not an option either. And let me correct one thing the fiber line.. Is coming to that box.. the other end goes to the central office. moreResolved Question: I am trying to set up a wireless network at home and I can't get it to work?
I have ATT broadband dsl with a 2wire ethernet modem. I have a Netgear router. I have installed the Netgear CD on both computers, but I cannot get the wireless laptop to pick up the signal from the router. The wireless light on the router flashes to let me know it is on, and my laptop seems to recognize the signal, but it tells me that it can't connect to the network. It also recognizes the 2wire signal and it has Wi-fi capability already installed in the laptop by the manufacturer, but it will not let me connect to any of them. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? Can someone lead me step by step? moreTop Dsl Or Broadband Links
