Basically when I first got my broadband it wasn't wireless but I still had a Belkin router that I used to secure my network from hackers whenever I would share my internet connection through wi-fi for my PSP..Anyway I've changed broadband providers and now am with AOL wireless broadband and when I got my PS3 I secured it using a PSK (PRE-SHARED KEY) but had to change that settings because I recently got a new PS3 as my original's hard disk corrupted so for a little while my network & computer was unprotected...But anyway last week Thursday one of my neighbour across the road from me came to tell me that my network was opened and that he and others could use it & he also said that he saw other people using it so basically they were all sharing my internet connection at the expense of me & therefore after this he volunteered to help me protect my internet connection again so while he was at mine we chose a password in which I will use to share my internet connection wirelessly for my PS3, but he knew it aswell and told me that he will be using my internet connection sometimes as a joke...but for me the idea of someone sharing my internet and being able to spy on me was too much so I changed the wireless password...but what I want to know is that whether he will be able to access my internet connection again since I changed it... because he is a computer boff and I suspect he may try and access it again...besides he showed me on his G1 phone that he could access my net and after we chose the first password told me that he would have to enter that password each time he wanted to connect to my network...but thankfully as I said before I have changed it so what I want to know is would he still be able to access my network and use my internet connection as he also knows my IP Address which allowed him to start messing around with my settings and use my internet connection..would it be possible or would he have to know the knew password that I have set it to? moreVoting Question: Do I need AOL software for my broadband to work?

I just moved to Chattaroy, Washington (zip 99003) and need something other than satellite for my MagicJack and my husband's wii. I can't find any cable providers and don't know much about internet. We need a high speed connection to get any online games working for my husband, and while our satellite is "high speed", it's not good enough for what we want to do. Is there any other way to get high speed in my area? I know there are several connection types and such, but don't know what all is needed. The problem is that we pretty much live in the middle of nowhere. Please help us! First person to give us a provider out here will be given best answer. I've already tried Comcast and Time Warner, and it's not out here. Any more advice from computer wizards out here?
I sent different questions and some had been answered. I got my computer to work to a certain point. I keep trying to get the internet but my BENQ computer keeps giving a message that AOL cannot be initiated. It used to give the message that there is no dial tone detected. I would not know if it is the same message expressed differently. I had been told that the modem is "corrupted." I tried "unselecting" the modem but that did not work, or maybe I could not actually unselect the modem by clicking the control panel then the "device manager" and another series of operations. The modem is an internal one. I would not know if some "card" can be replaced, or somehow made "un corrupted" Can that be done? How? I am really trying to avoid taking the computer to someone whom would charge a lot when there might be something I can do on my own. is there any device I can buy to put on the motherboard ? The AOL is dial up, not broadband. More advice please. The computer is not functioning and is needed in the household. Thanks to those of you who answered. I don't pay for the computer account, my sister does and she says broadband is expensive. I am only so computer literate and I don't completely understand a lot of your advice too. It is Window's XP. How do you get a different "browser"? To my knowledge it's the white line above the screen to type in websites. Do I go to a computer store and ask for an internal modem? Are they all standard sizes, or would I have to bring in the computer to the store? Can you approximate the cost? $20? $30? I can go to "Start" then "Control Panel" then "Systems" then "Device Manager" but it seems I cannot undo the modem. The current message I get is that the modem cannot be "initiated." I appreciate the advice but please specify certain things such as abbreviations. My sister called AOL. They seem to give limited answers. Thanks moreResolved Question: I have an old Compaqu laptop. Okay at about midnight last night my AOL connection just stopped. The modem says it can't connect to the internet and the WLAN icon just flashes. The DSL and Internet icons don't even do that. I've tried resetting it and making sure everything is connected right and nothing works? If i 'diagnose connection problem' it just says it may be a problem with the server. I'm in somerset and was wondering if the server is down? Would they just cut off my internet for no reason? How long should i wait and what can i do? ANy info would be welcome. Thank you! PS. I'm using 3 mobile broadband for this. moreResolved Question: How to set up with wireless router in order to get wireless internet?

I asked a previous question just like this however, it don't beleive it has anything to do with my computer(s). I first noted that the only computer that uses AOL (the aol program) stopped working and could no longer identify a broadband connection, however, the mind-boggling thing is IE works fine, can download files, watch videos. etc. I "ping'd" sites on that computer with no results, they all got dropped, I tested the other 6 computers I own, (all using the ping * .com method) all with the same results, also the same result, IE works on all of those too, I disconnected my wireless router and hooked 1 pc up to the modem with the same exact results... so, could my modem be the issue? I've reset all connections, even did a complete restore of 1 pc just to go the extreme, still does it. The thing is the internet works, the modem is getting a signal, but for some odd reason, i cant ping anything, and AOL doesnt work moreVoting Question: AOL CONNECTIVITY SERVICE DIALER?

Okay so I'm at my Grandmother's house. She recently got broadband (thank God). So for a while she had a Motorola modem and everything was fine. I come back this time and find this bulky box that has ports for a Coaxial cable, a telephone line, and an ethernet cable. So the problem is I want to hook my laptop up to the internet (she doesn't have a router). So I turned off the surge protector everything's hooked into, waited ten seconds, and turned it back on with the ethernet cable in my laptop. I then turned on my laptop which then had no internet. Additionally the only way to access the internet is still the AOL browser, which is extremely annoying. It's fast (i.e. running on the broadband connection), but I don't understand: A. Why a phone cable is involved at all. She no longer uses dial up. B. Why I can't get my laptop to connect to the internet. C. What a WAN Miniport is. I really hate AOL (yes I know they're owned by TWC), but I've heard that this miniport thing has to do with AOL and I'm kind of ticked at it. Thanks for the help, ~Me =3I mean that I can access the internet on her comp through AOL. My laptop has no connection whatsoever.I'm not trying to have them both access at the same time. I unplugged the ethernet cable and hooked it into my lappy. I only want internet on my lappy. moreResolved Question: I repartitioned and formatted C:\ drive and reinstalled windows XP. The highest download speed ive seen with it is 40kbps, which is nowhere near what i'm paying for. I've read all sorts of little tweaks i can do to it online but they only ever make it about 1kb faster. Should I buy a better router? Or change from DSL to something better, if so how? I'm not even bothered about having to pay for it, im just SICK of this petheticly slow internet. moreVoting Question: how do i get internet on my pc?

So I have a new computer, I am running a wireless network from my main desktop and have a laptop which is hooked up to the internet fine. I have an Asus wireless adapter plugged into the new PC and have AOL broadband. I installed AOL broadband on my new PC but I can't seem to connect to the internet with Internet Explorer. AOL connects fine and I can access websites in the normal way, but Internet Explorer acts as if the internet is not connected. I have three icons in the bottom right to do with internet, one is the wireless network display which shows it to be connected with ecxcellent signal strength. The other two are called Local Area Network Connection 1/2 and both have a red x indicating it's not connected. Does anybody know why IE won't connect? I want to download Firefox but I can see it having the same problems as IE at the moment so wondered if anyone could help me in my quest for non-AOL internet. Also, i do some downloading from the PSN store. Thanks. moreResolved Question: Computer connection to wireless router keeps becoming disconnected?
Computer connection to wireless router keeps becoming disconnected on my computer, for example searching the internet and the connection would be lost and i would have to re connect to the router, though problem doesn't seem to occur on laptop which is further away from the router. The router is housed in the loft with the aerial pointing down and the unit is not near anything metal that might interfere. The computer is based just below the router and as this is the case i believe there must be some sort of software conflict, but you might know better? Well, this may be a common problem, but i have a MySpace, and its under the AOL email address i had when i was subscribed to AOL Dial-up, and since i moved from that to Charter/Avenue Broadband, i cant access it anymore it seems, and ive been wanting to change my MySpace email address to my current Yahoo email address, and i can't do THAT without accepting the verification email sent to my AOL email address, which i cant access. Thanks Arvydas moreResolved Question: AOL Netgear router internet speed decreases?
I've had AOL broadband for about 2 years now and its all worked relatively fine until now. A couple of days ago I went on the internet and it took ages to load my homepage - ebay. The lights on the router were all fine so I typed in the routers URL and it said DownStream connection speed 128kbps (its usually 1800kbps - I'm supposed to get 2mb/s) So I unplugged and plugged the power cable to the router. That fixed it. The next day it happened again, unplugged it and plugged it back in again, went up to 1.8mb/s again. It happens every day - sometimes 2 times. Has anyone got a Netgear Wireless ADSL Router DG834G or similar and having the same problems. I could ring up AOL but the line is terrible and last time I lost my internet completely. Thanks. It's probably worth saying that it doesn't make a differance if I'm wired or wirelessYes it was crackling so I changed all the ADSL filters and that's stopped the crackling. moreVoting Question: Can someone explain to what the limit of my internet connection depends on?
We have a 1mb connection at the moment, as it stands it's not enough for what my entire family is using. I used the post code checker on this site http://www.top10-broadband.co.uk/ and it told us that we could have up to a 6.5mb connection however, when we phoned talk talk and gave them our details they said we can have up to a 2mb connection. (right now we have broadband with aol) so i'm not sure if our broadband speed depends on what company we are with or not, or if the post code checker is just wrong. Anybody know? Thanks. moreTop Aol Broadband Internet Links
