Open Question: Is there a cell phone operator in the US offering daily rates on mobile broadband?
I use a sprint plan for internet wireless connection. I am paying a $59/month for the service I only use the wireless connection card a few days every month and I'd like to find a provider that I could pay a daily fee only the days I use it. I know that can be done in Europe and in Mexico but I am not sure you have such offering in the US. Do you know of any operator providing that service? Thank you very much Juan moreOpen Question: Wireless broadband service and windows firewall...?

Is it possible to use both the connections on one computer, Plz suggest? moreVoting Question: Regarding routers and internet speed?
We have a Linksys wireless-G 2.4 GHz broadband router. At times we have 3 people online at the same time. Two play online peer games. At times, it seems more like dialup than high speed dsl (it's the highest offered in this area--over 700 (I think they said it was 900 ???). I'm getting pretty frustrated with the speed. It only seems to effect my speed, not the other two. My system has the router, etc hooked up to it. My system is clean -- recently reinstalled everything but the problem still occurs. I called my internet provider and they said that the the speed wasn't what it should be. They (Embarq/Century Link) had be open some tool online that measured the speed and it was only about half. I removed a filter device from the phone line (forgot to remove it when I cancelled telephone service) but it's still a quarter short of what it should be and the tech couldnt' figure out why. The company changed to Centuy Link so that tool is no longer available or at least I can't find it. Is there a better router that that will provide better speed/performance (this one is from our internet provider)? If not the router, is it with my provider or could the issue be at home? moreVoting Question: Wireless Connection w/ a broadband card?

i have sky broadband , wireless , 60 ms ping, .36 Mb/s Apparently speedtest says i should be able to download a 35 mb video in 15 mins , this is all well and good , but when i go on youtube , the video almost never loads fully or takes about an hour for a music video 3 minutes long , this is ridiculously slow , everyone else has so much faster internets with the same package and for some reason my internet is just so slow , pages load very slow aswell , i didnt know broadband could be this terrible . My laptop diagnoses my internet and says it has excellent signal and is sometimes runing at 18Mbps yet i cant watch a video online, i am looking for the answer as to why this is happening and how i can overcome it and get a decent service , thanksthanks for all the good answers , i will try some of the ideas mentioned , hopefully this should work :) moreVoting Question: Which school is better for a Bachelors of Science in Information Technology and network design? Will both connections work parallely?
I have a dell laptop with windows vista, service pack 2 (32 -bit operating system) on it. I have a broad band internet connection connected via wireless router and a second connection which is a data card provided by O2. I'm connected to both service providers at any time. But my system uses the O2 connection which slowest when I browse internet. I want to find a way to use both connections at the same time which could; 1) increase my browsing speed 2) incase, one disconnects the other one will be working. My question is/are; 1) Can I use both connections on my lap top at same time? 2) Will it increase my internet speed? 3) If I cant use two connections at same time how i can deafult the connection to broadband? I have wireless 5GB broadband internet service on my computer. Is there anyway I can hook a credit card machine to my usb port and use the internet to run credit cards for my business. If so, what is a good setup. Thanks! moreResolved Question: my DSL cuts out every few minutes!?
i'm using AT&T dsl, with a 2wire router, my service is supposedly max 3mb/s download and 512kbps upload.speed test shows i'm getting about 2.5 - 2.6mbps download and about .35 - .4 upload so it seems the connection strength is not an issue. the problem is it seems to be blazing fast about 80% of the time, but every 3 minutes or so it just kind of cuts out completely. my wireless graph thingy on my desktop basically stays horizontal except when these episodes occur when the upload and download speeds both show zero and the graph cuts out for a minute or so. i've tried disabling wifi and using an ethernet cable instead, same shit so i'm guessing its a problem with the router or the service and not with my computer or set up. i have 2 other laptops on the same network, they both seem to be acting similar. its not much of an inconvenience but the only reason it's really pissing me off is because it messes up torrent speeds and most of all screws up firefox by displaying "dsl broadband error" whenever i try to open a new tab during one of these episodes. the connection fixes itself in 30sec-3min but if i refresh or open another tab, it just says "resolution succesful: the problem has been resolved please restart your browser" and i have to exit out and wait for all my tabs to reload. its kind of annoying. anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it? i don't have any viruses, i have 4 exceptions set on my routers firewall for ports that i'm forwarding (3 for a VNC server and 1 for utorrent) moreVoting Question: How do you find out your service name (vista) for your internet? (I have a PC desktop)?
Im having some problems with my internet. every time I try to connect, it says my network is unidentified and it doesn't want to connect. I've tried to everything. It says that when I try to connect to my connection (which is a broadband PPOE or whatever) and says I have error 815: my service name may be invalid because the remote server is not responding. My wire, router, and internet is fine. My wireless for my laptop works great. My Modem is an ADSLplus prestige model, and it's pretty old. how do I find my service name? I've tried entering my ipv4 adress (which I found from ipconfig in cmd) and it doesn't work. I can't call my ISP provider since it's a sunday, and I'm desperate. (I'm on my laptop right now) moreResolved Question: Internet not at full speed.?
I just had my internet upgraded from 1.5 Mbps to 20 Mbps and i tested it on speedtest.net and it says every time i try and on every computer as well as other sites that i'm only getting about 3.8 Mbps. When I upgraded the guy i spoke to said we wouldn't need a new modem, but he didn't sound extremely confident in his tone. The modem i have is pretty old, i've had it since i first got broadband a couple of years ago. It's a speedtouch 530 (or atleast i think, its what is written on the bottom, it looks like a model name) and my internet service provider is telstra which i don't think they have in America but it's one of the main ones here in Australia. Also i use wireless router, but its fairly new, and one of the computers i tested the speed on is connected to the router with a cable so i doubt this is the cause of the problem. Anyway my question is would i not be getting the full speed due to my hardware (my modem possibly not being able to provide that speed), or is it more likely my service provider isn't putting out the numbers they say that can, at least at the moment? moreResolved Question: BBC iPlayer problems?
I have used iPlayer for some time now, and the same problem keeps occuring. The shows will simply not stream. Despite testing with BBC's own broadband speed test - which states I have ample speed to stream iPlayer BUT my "streaming speed" is negative! Which is impossible. All other sites which stream video are absolutley fine, iPlayer seems to be the only site causing these issues. It happens on all three computers at home, two are wired into router and the laptop is wireless, they run XP or Vista. BT are my service provider. Anyone else have this issue or shed some light on why this happens? Downloading from iplayer site is fine, incidentally, but hardly convenient. moreResolved Question: What makes you want to swear at the top of your lungs?
There are 2 things that make me swear very loudly: 1: When my wii remote turns off or disconnects for no random reason, which has been happening alot lately. 2: Virgin broadband. They told us that we were able to use their services & have a fast runnig wireless internet. But there is no wireless signal in the area & the internet disconnects all the time & takes ages to reconnect. We reset the modem at least 20 times a day minimum. Whenever we ring up their service line they tell us to reset the modem. moreResolved Question: I'm not happy with my broadband connection speed. What can I do?
I have a Belkin N+ wireless adsl router, my BT line is 5.5mbps, I'm 2.6km from the exchange and my ISP (Demon Boradband 2+) provides 'up to 16mbps download speed', for £25 per month. Demon tell me that anything between 3.2mbps and 8.5mbps is "acceptable" as far as they are concerned, and BT say there is nothing wrong with the line. I'm actually getting 3.8mbps, which doesn't seem good to me given that I have an expensive modem and an expensive isp. The problem is that with a product that is at all technical, companies often get away with providing a poor service by baffling their customers and blaming other suppliers. BT blame Demon. Demon blame BT. I don't know who to go after and what to expect; or am I actually getting a good deal?thanks rajinder but two questions; what do you mean by lower side?! and.. if i'm buying a 16 meg service, how can they possibly say that 3.8mbps is "acceptable"? if i sell you a car and you say you're not happy, can i say it's "acceptable" if it's only got one wheel? moreResolved Question: I have a Cyfre 3G Wireless Broadband Router?

Hi there, Currently, my mom has a Verizon Wireless Broadband Card with a 5GB monthly limit. As of now, she has had it for more than a year and is dissatisfied. I try to tell her that we should get a modem but she insists that we can't get one up here in Montana. I told her that the one that I have down at my house in Texas is that AT&T 2Wire DSL Gateway Model 2701HG-B and is a very good modem. It has only disconnected a few times. So here comes the questions: 1: Is it possible to get that modem here in Montana and have internet connection? 2: Can I just go buy the modem, bring it home, and set it up or do I need to buy a service plan from AT&T? Thanks in advance. She has a Verizon phone so it doesnt show that they have that phone on account. moreResolved Question: Cant swich over to my new Router from my Old Router!?

We saw it with cell phones and then televisions in the driver's view, accidents were what rose right along with entertainment value. Do you predict internet surfing will produce a similar effect? Do you think this is a good or bad idea for the auto industry? --quote--- Ford brings Wi-Fi to the highway Ford is making its cars into mobile Wi-Fi hot spots. The next generation of the Sync in-car entertainment and information system will use a USB mobile broadband modem to establish a secure wireless connection capable of supporting several devices simultaneously. The system will be available next year on selected models -- no word yet which ones -- and you won't need a subscription or hardware beyond the modem. "While you're driving to grandma's house, your spouse can be finishing the holiday shopping and the kids can be chatting with friends and updating their Facebook profiles," said Mark Fields, Ford president of the Americas. "And you're not paying for yet another mobile subscription or piece of hardware because Ford will let you use technology you already have." Several automakers already offer in-car Internet access -- Japanese drivers have been using it since 1997 -- and many others are rushing to bring it to us. Ford's announcement follows General Motors' promise last week to make in-car connectivity available in seven models of trucks and SUVs. They're the latest automakers to bring the infobahn to the autobahn. Mercedes recently announced it has successfully tested in-vehicle Internet applications -- including web browsing, vehicle software updates and VOIP -- on a prototype 4G network. It follows BMW's Internet-connected iDrive system and Chrysler's Uconnect Web in-vehicle mobile hotspot. With so many automakers getting in on the action, there's a push to introduce hardware standards. Ford is taking a decidedly different approach, opting to allow consumers to plug in their own USB modem to get connected. General Motors, on the other hand, offers a dealer-installed system called Chevrolet Wi-Fi by Autonet Mobile. It creates a Wi-Fi hot spot 300 feet in diameter around the vehicle, and GM claims the 3G network achieves speeds of up to 1.5 mbps. The hardware costs $199 after the $200 mail-in rebate, and the service costs $29 a month. Given how connected we are, it makes sense for automakers to put the Internet in our cars. The number of iPhones and other mobile devices being used to connect to the Internet jumped 75 percent in the third quarter of this year, according to JiWire Mobile Audiences Insights Report. Letting people log on from the road will be a big selling point among 20-something buyers, the so-called Millennials who have propelled much of Sync's success. Millennials will make up 28 percent of the driving population next year, a nine-point increase from 2004. Kids aside, Ford says interest in in-car connectivity is high among the general public, with one-third of people surveyed by the Consumer Electronics Association expressing interest in being able to check e-mail or surf the Web from the car --quote-- source.. http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/12/26/wired.ford.wi.fi/index.html moreResolved Question: Thinking of AT&T High speed internet, anyone ever had it?
i hate Cricket and their false "3G Wireless Broadband". the crap is supposed to be fast, but why does it take an hour to download a 10MB file/song at only 4 kilobits a second? thats 50 kilobits slower than f***ing dial up!!! anyway, back to the question. i've been seeing these AT&T commericals all over the net, as well as TV saying you can get high speed internet (DSL i suppose) for only $20 a month, and no home phone required. i live an apartment, it was set up for home phone service when we moved here in 2003, the line jack in the dining room is ready, where this computer is. not sure about the bedrooms, but i wouldn't need the bedroom jacks anyway. now, my main asking here is, what all do i need? i have an ethernet card installed, several USB ports, Windows XP, a Pentium 4 processor at 1.3 GHz, 512MB RAM (its an old 2001 Compaq) i have several 4 pin phone lines, ethernet cables, a couple DSL modems from my collection (or will ATT supply one?). next, when i sign up for the service online, how long does it take for them to come out and hook up the phone lines at the phone pole outside the building, and does the setup/installation cost anything? also, if i decide to move, can i just have them move my service to my new residence? i've never done this before, never even had a land line phone, so any pointers/tips would be helpful, also, if you have this service, (AT&T), what do you think of it speed wise? thanks guys/gals moreResolved Question: My Huawei Broadband E1750 USB stick is not working!?
I purchased the Huawei Broadband E1750 USB stick in September and I have had no problems with it so far, till yesterday. I tried to connect to no avail. I restarted the computer (MSi U100 Plus subnotebook running on XP SP3) twice and attempted to dial up the net, but again to no avail. I presumed it was due to the holiday networking surge and used the wireless. Today, I attempted dialing up again but it did not work still. I called the ISP. The technician said it could be a hardware failure and told me to go to the Huawei Service Centre to get a replacement or get it fixed. Unfortunately, it was closed for the day by the time I got there. I did some research on the net and I found other users of this dongle facing the same issues. For those of you out there who don't know what this is, it's a USB plug-and-use stick. Connection to the Internet is manual. It uses a SIM card, thus it is considered half broadband, half dial-up. See http://www.huawei.com/ for more info.@cornflakes : Yes, I have tried it on all my other computers, running on either XP or Vista, to no avail. Anyway, I sent it to the service centre. moreResolved Question: Yasterday the lights went off and. When they came my wireless broadband was not working?

I've been with O2 for over a year and really never had a problem with them. However, a couple of weeks ago I moved my router from the living room to bedroom (no change in wires, I go phone socket>extension>filter>router which has been fine for over a year) and connected my partners pc to the router via ethernet. After that, the router began disconnecting several times a day- highly annoying since we're both online gamers. As a result, I finally contacted O2, who iirc basically reset my router to factory settings, which was fine for most of the day. However, this evening I began experiencing very frequent disconnects from my laptop, connected wirelessly. My computer was taking its sweet time to find the network and reconnect, and so I got on to O2 again, who took remote control and tried to fix the problem, to no avail, and I'm now stuck using the ethernet cable with it, as that works fine. The customer service guy said he thought it must be a problem with my network adapter, which seems strange to me considering that it started the same day that they fiddled with things to stop the disconnects. Also worth mentioning- there's a second laptop connected, which has no problems as far as I saw in the hour or so I had it on. If anyone can shed any light on what might be wrong, I'd be eternally grateful as this is driving me insane. Oh, and having said that ^^ the router just went offline a moment ago- no telling if it's the same problem as it has been though. Thank you in advanceJust to be clear, the router and phone are plugged into the filter, which is on the extension from the main phone socket. moreVoting Question: Wireless "N" Router - what sorts of speeds?

Hi there, It appears that there has been a problem with my wireless network. The problem started out since late last night as I was playing an online video game and the wireless connection cuts my computer and my brother's. When I tried to connect to my Wireless Network, it said "Connected!". However, when I opened web browsers (both Internet Explorer and Google Chrome), I was not able to browse any web page. A blank web page appeared, stating the web page is unavailable. Today, I called my Internet Service Provider and told them about the problem. They have asked me to try to connect my computer to the Internet using a Broadband connection (cable), and it works successfully. So this led us to assume that it is our Wireless Network that is the problem. How can I solve that? Details about my situation, I am using Windows XP and my brother's PC is Vista. The broadband modem (cable) is Billion and Wireless Router is Aztech WL830RT4.I did that and it still cannot work. I know this is a strange question but there is some logic behind it. A guy I work with can't get high speed internet at his home (DSL or Cable). He could get HughesNet but it's VERY expensive. He has dial-up but it's horrible. He is very interested in getting an iPhone 3GS. The data plan on an iPhone is unlimited for $30/month compared to $50+/month for a regular mobile broadband adapter for a laptop or desktop that has very restrictive data limits. So here's my question: if he bought an iPhone with the unlimited data plan, is it possible to share the iPhone's internet service with his PC? This way, he'd have the best of both worlds with only one bill. I'm not sure if it could be done thru the USB charging cable or maybe it would have to be thru Bluetooth or WiFi. If anyone knows if this is possible, please let me know. Thanx!I found a YouTube video on the subject. It's called "Tethering" your iPhone but it might be risky. I know I want wi-fi and I need to be able to play PS3 games online, so I'm fairly certain I need broadband (although I really don't understand the differences). So, I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could give a complete rundown of all the details. Do I want broadband, or am I looking for something else? Do I need a modem? If so, how can I check if my computer has one? Do I need a landline? Where does the wireless router come in to all of this? Will I still be able to access the Internet on my desktop with a wireless router? Do you have any suggestions on good ISP's? Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I promise to give best answer to whomever helps the most.
