Open Question: Is BSNL Broadband 256kbps File Download Speed slow?
I have BSNL's Home 750 Unlimited plan and the total bandwidth is 256 kbps. Ever since I got the connection, I have realized that my downloading speed has never gone beyond 30 kbps (not only torrents files but files from Rapidshare and other sites). Is this normal or am I supposed to get more speed than this? I felt that the downloading speed was limited and set to this rate. When I checked with their Broadband section, they said that the speed I am getting is OK based on a calculation of 30x8 (that means I am getting about 240 kbps total bandwidth). Does anything else affect the download speed rate? Any users or experts have anything to say? I have decided to switch plan because of this. moreResolved Question: Broadband Speed via wi-fi?
I'm confused just had Virgin upgrade my cable broadband to 50MB. I have two Apple intel Mac desktops one 2.0 Ghz the other 2.16 Ghz both core 2 duo. The Virgin modem is connected to the Apple Airport Extreme Base Station with 802.11n. When I do a speed check on the download results the difference between the two machines is vast. On the 2.16 Ghz it clocks over 3.2 MB/s. Whereas on the other the fastest is 878kB/s. These are both download figures. Uploads are the same at 200 kB/s. Anyone have any idea what's happening? both computers are in the same room next to each other. Help please - Doctor B moreVoting Question: Why is my broadband so slow?
I have eircom broadband for almost a year now, in the package, we are supposed to receive 3mb broadband. That was fine up until a moth ago, everything was taking forever to load so I checked the speed and it said only 1.7mb! And its always dropping! As I speak, it is only 0.76mb! why is it this slow when it is meant to be 3mb? moreResolved Question: How to get 20mb broadband?

Hi. I currently use Madasafish for my broadband and use a D-Link DSL-G624T wireless router. I live in a rural location and as such the fastest speed I have is 2MB. I've been with Madasafish for 2 years now and had hardly any problems. Recently however I have had speeds as low as 215KB and at the moment I'm getting 385KB. I've queried this with Madasafish support and feel that they are just trying to fob me off with a checklist of things to do such as linking to the router directly via LAN, and also checking the phoneline into the router itself. I'm convinced that their is nothing wrong with the router itself, and that the fault lies elsewhere. I just thought I'd check to see if anyone has some reasonable suggestions on how to sort this. I've read bad reports recently about Madasafish, with it being taken over. It did use to be one of the top 10 providers but those days are long gone. Of course I have considered swapping providers, but thought I'd give them a chance to remedy this. moreResolved Question: Read This - Do you think this is a good or bad idea for the auto industry?
We saw it with cell phones and then televisions in the driver's view, accidents were what rose right along with entertainment value. Do you predict internet surfing will produce a similar effect? Do you think this is a good or bad idea for the auto industry? --quote--- Ford brings Wi-Fi to the highway Ford is making its cars into mobile Wi-Fi hot spots. The next generation of the Sync in-car entertainment and information system will use a USB mobile broadband modem to establish a secure wireless connection capable of supporting several devices simultaneously. The system will be available next year on selected models -- no word yet which ones -- and you won't need a subscription or hardware beyond the modem. "While you're driving to grandma's house, your spouse can be finishing the holiday shopping and the kids can be chatting with friends and updating their Facebook profiles," said Mark Fields, Ford president of the Americas. "And you're not paying for yet another mobile subscription or piece of hardware because Ford will let you use technology you already have." Several automakers already offer in-car Internet access -- Japanese drivers have been using it since 1997 -- and many others are rushing to bring it to us. Ford's announcement follows General Motors' promise last week to make in-car connectivity available in seven models of trucks and SUVs. They're the latest automakers to bring the infobahn to the autobahn. Mercedes recently announced it has successfully tested in-vehicle Internet applications -- including web browsing, vehicle software updates and VOIP -- on a prototype 4G network. It follows BMW's Internet-connected iDrive system and Chrysler's Uconnect Web in-vehicle mobile hotspot. With so many automakers getting in on the action, there's a push to introduce hardware standards. Ford is taking a decidedly different approach, opting to allow consumers to plug in their own USB modem to get connected. General Motors, on the other hand, offers a dealer-installed system called Chevrolet Wi-Fi by Autonet Mobile. It creates a Wi-Fi hot spot 300 feet in diameter around the vehicle, and GM claims the 3G network achieves speeds of up to 1.5 mbps. The hardware costs $199 after the $200 mail-in rebate, and the service costs $29 a month. Given how connected we are, it makes sense for automakers to put the Internet in our cars. The number of iPhones and other mobile devices being used to connect to the Internet jumped 75 percent in the third quarter of this year, according to JiWire Mobile Audiences Insights Report. Letting people log on from the road will be a big selling point among 20-something buyers, the so-called Millennials who have propelled much of Sync's success. Millennials will make up 28 percent of the driving population next year, a nine-point increase from 2004. Kids aside, Ford says interest in in-car connectivity is high among the general public, with one-third of people surveyed by the Consumer Electronics Association expressing interest in being able to check e-mail or surf the Web from the car --quote-- source.. http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/12/26/wired.ford.wi.fi/index.html moreResolved Question: Confused about bandwidth, download limit and internet speed?

Okay. A few months ag,o my internet connection is incredibly fast and I'm more than satisfied because videos load fastly. Until then, this "Antivirus Pro" attacked my computer and loaded it with virus and stuff. My internet has slowed down. My hard drive has already been reformatted a few times, and fortunately, Antivirus Pro has gone. But my problem hasn't come to its end yet!! My internet is still slow. I downloaded this software that my ISP provides that checks whatever problems may have on my internet. The software says that there is a problem on the antenna (I'm using a broadband connection). How do I fix this? I hate talking to the Customer Service because they're really not helping.. Anyone have ideas to make my internet get back to its original speed?? moreResolved Question: Comcast Internet Broadband speed: has yours slowed since a week ago?
I can't figure this out. I'm at the end of the first year of a two-year Triple-Play package with Comcast. Up until last Friday morning my download speed has been in the area of 24000kbps-30000kbps with my upload speed the typical one-fourth of that. It doesn't matter which online speed test I use, since last Friday my download speed is consistently around 7000kbps and upload around 2000kbps. For reasons I won't elaborate, I'm certain it's not my computer causing this and I feel Comcast has throttled my Broadband speed (and won't admit it). I've called them twice and each time their technician has checked the line and my Modem and said everything looks fine from their end and they have no idea what's causing the drop in speed. I have been struggling with my broadband speed since I moved into my new house in april this year. Initially on BT Total and now on O2 Access. I have never reached a speed of 1mbs but always floating between 0.1 and 0.5 - painfully slow! The trouble is a solution seems to be impossible to find. My line has been checked, my equiptment has been changed and so, of course, has my ISP. I have just discovered that two ISPs, AOL and TalkTalk have 'unbundled' at my exchange (about a half a mile from my house) and are now offering LLU services. So my question is this, would this solve my problem? Should I sign up to either of these providers (even though they get awful reviews on most of the review sites - although I struggle to find a provider that doesn't)? Ok, I've had this router for a couple years now, and It's one of the older ones.. lt says on the front Linksys Wireless-G Broadband router. Not sure what model.. I'm thinkin 802.11g sounds right.. but anyways.. here's the setup, I've got the linksys router plugged directly into the cable modem, and i've got 2 ethernet cables going out, one to the desktop computer, and one to the Xbox 360, and my laptop runs off the wireless connection. Recently I've had my computer completely checked out, meaning the hard drive and the motherboard. So, I'm pretty sure it's not the computer.. It has also been factory reset, so there is nothing downloaded on it. Ok, well the connection through the xbox and the desktop works completely fine. However, the laptop speed is just not there.. i'm less than 5 feet away from the router when it's in use, and I've tested my computer at a friends house, and the connection worked great! Well, my computer is going so slow here that I can't even load youtube videos, or small games like bejeweled.. The antenna on the router is up, and there is no interference that I can think of.. It sits next to the other computer-ware.. and the tv, and the xbox.. also next to wireless xbox controllers (didn't know if that would make any difference).. If you need anymore info, let me know.. this problem is ridiculous and I don't want to spend 50 bucks on another router if I don't need it.. Please help, and thanx..-Thanx to both, great answers and both helped.. I'm thinking the spending of 50+ bucks is gonna be my answer. I just recently plugged the computer directly into the back of the router, and its working great again.. I asked a friend of mine as well, and he thinks its just the router.. ?... I guess i'll try that.. and There is only one other connection in the area, with poor quality, and I've got mine set on 6, and his was set on 1.. so it wasn't that either.. I'm with Orange broadband and I've been doing some speed and availability checks for my broadband. I'm paying for speeds up to 20mb but it turns out I can only have 2mb. This has annoyed me since my friend across the street with Sky broadband has exactly the same type of package but he can get a faster speed. I have my firewall set to low and there is another computer, printer, and Xbox wirelessly connected but not on at this time. Please could someone tell me why I can only get these speeds as none of the reasons on the website are valid to me such as poor quality telephone lines and such. I am 1493 metres from my nearest exchange and as far as I know I am on standard ADSL. Thanks :) moreResolved Question: I have exceeded my data usage, what should i do?
I am with orange broadband and they sent a letter saying they had reduced my broadband speed for 3 months due to 'continuously exceeding my download limit! I phoned them and they said that there is a 5GB download limit in peak user times (6pm-12pm). And also they say they sent emails warning me what will happen, but i didn't check them so had no idea my internet speed was going to be capped to 0.75MB (from 1.5MB)!!!!! What could i do to get my speed back up? Cheers :o) moreResolved Question: expert knowlege of internet connections needed please.?
hi guyz, i have been having problems with my plusnet broardband. the internet is working great but peer to peer d-loads wont work until the middle of the night, and then they wont even go over 30kbs per second :( i have raised this issue with plusnet and they have done line checks and this is what they have come up with............................................................................. Dear Mr Steven xxxxxxxxx, We have asked our wholesale broadband suppliers to turn interleaving on on your phone line to try and fix your current broadband problem. Interleaving is a form of error correction that helps to improve the stability of high-speed broadband. One drawback of interleaving is that it can increase ping times, which may cause problems for online gamers. We think that turning on interleaving may help with your connection problems. Interleaving usually takes 24 hours to turn on, but can take up to 5 days to take effect. If interleaving solves your problem, please close this Question. If you are still seeing problems with interleaving switched on, please return this Question to us with as much detail about your problem as possible. Thank you for your time and patience. Kind regards PlusNet Customer Support does anybody know what this meens? and do you think this will help ? thnx 4 your time. moreResolved Question: do i need to enter an open port to use utorrent even though i don't use a router?

We set up a Belkin wireless network and put the router on the middle floor and the computer on the top floor (3 storey house). It worked for a couple of months but sometimes was a bit slow. Then it became unbelivably slow - did a broadband check and we were only getting 0.5 speed (I am not very technical computer wise so please bear with me). We have taken everything back to the middle floor and connected via a wire and everything is back to running at 6-7 speed and is very quick. iphones and work laptops can connect to the wireless network from anywhere in the house which is weird but when we unplug the main computer and try to use wireless even literally centimetres away from the router, it doesnt work. Any ideas? Does this point to there being a problem with the computer? Do we need to clear everything off and start again? Thanks for any help. moreResolved Question: Why is my internet so slow?

I've been with BT Yahoo Broadband for 4 years. Then last week my internet slowed down to an unbelievably slow connection speed. Speed tester says it's at 0.5mbps which is really slow i'm assuming. I've checked all wiring and nothing is wrong it's all connected; Phone, Router, Ethernet, all cables and stuff. Nothing wrong. I've checked for spyware, adware etc. and nothing came up. I'm stumped as to why my internet is doing this. It's got to the point where I can't really use the internet on the account of it being so slow. All bills are paid up if that as any factor. Any help would do. I know people say it depends on time of day and how far you are from the exchange but it's been fine for 4 years, I don't see why these probs would just kick in now. Thank You. moreResolved Question: how does this speeds up your broadband?
