Telefonica cuts Tierra del Fuego adrift
LOCAL LOOP monopoly Telefonica, one of the two incumbents in Argentina, suffered a cut in its fibre optic backbone, leaving a whole province as linked with the mainland as the cast of Lost. Tierra del Fuego - "land of fire"- is Argentina's southernmost province. It has some of beautiful landscapes and a mere 100,000 permanent residents according to the last census. The city of Ushuaia is now a thriving tourist destination, and the commercial centre for the area. But reservations couldn't be made, credit card transactions couldn't be processed, and banks couldn't operate after the incident on Monday night. According to reports, a bulldozer working alongside a road accidentally cut a fibre optic cable Monday night, causing the disruption in Telefonica's backbone.
Knight: A miracle for Christmas
McGinniss, bestselling author of The Selling of the President and Fatal Vision, who's chronicled everything from Richard Nixon to the Kennedys, actually walked away from the O.J. Simpson trial to take the ride in Serie B. (To his credit, he never even mentions this in the book.) He plays the role of an American sports fan in Italy superbly. He lives and dies with every little up and down the team endures, and is never able to fully understand the deep-rooted social customs – and murky backroom dealings – that colour everything that ever happens to the team. And all this recent concern about match-fixing? Let's just say McGinniss was about a decade ahead of his time. As much a clash of cultures as a chronicle of a tiny team just one level from the top, the book is filled with unending surprises. Some are delightful. Some – well, folks, you're going to feel a lot of different things on this trip.

We demand that farmers should be provided with cheaper loans and they should get farm income insurance cover instead of crop insurance, said Mr Rajnath adding that his party would raise issues pertaining to Indo-US deal, snooping in sensitive areas in the Parliament. It is for the first time in the history that a government is trying to re-introduce a Bill (Office of Profit Bill), which, has been returned by the President, without effecting any changes in it. It is amazing. Coming to Punjab, Mr Rajnath Singh announced that the SAD-BJP combine would contest Assembly elections under the leadership of Mr Parkash Singh Badal. He also projected Mr Badal as , Future CM, and said the people were suffering under Mr Amarinder Singh-led state government. He lauded role of the Hind Samachar Group of Newspapers in countrys fight against terrorism and said sacrifices of groups family members and 62 employees of the group failed to deflect Vijay Kumar Chopra, Managing Editor of Hind Samachar, or affect his determination against terrorism.
