I am planning on going with Verizon for mobile broadband for my netbook. The plan is $59.99 for 5GB of data usage per month. It's more than I'd like to pay, but it seems to be the only option. My question is how much can I do with 5GB? I will mainly be using it for web surfing, checking e-mails, facebook, and working on my web forum. No music or movie downloading. hi guys first time asking something here. My Internet is crap. im 17 and stuck with a virgin broadband connection for 2 years and i cant game on-line with it. we only have 4 gig and it cuts out about every 20 mins. so i stupidly went out and figured i get pre paid broad band and just use that. when i got home i found that my 40 gig ps3 doesn't seem to receive any signal straight from the usb port. so i figured that i would use the same method as i did with the virgin modem, that im prity sure we use a landline for. i took out the virgin modem and inserted the vodafone usb modem in the pc's port then plugged in my Ethernet cable at the back of the pc and into my ps3. when i try to set up the connection it just sais checking ip address for a while then sais it Timed out. Resolved Question: Problem with Networking Two PCs?

Networking Problem Internet is a magnificent medium to find solutions for your PC problem. I got help from it on numerous occasions and I am really thankful to the technology for it. However, despite of asking many times on many forums and trying everything given on the internet, my networking experience has been a nightmare so far. In 2007 I first tried to connect two PCs through LAN wired router, both PCs were using windows XP and guess what, my first try was a success but it was a matter of time when I realised that it was not more than just beginner’s luck because since then I’ve tried countless times but it never happened again. Now let me go into the detail. I’m using two P4 PCs with Windows XP professional, both have LAN built-in to the mother board. I have Broadband internet connection which can be used at one PC at a time. Both PCs can connect to the internet without any problem but when I try to connect them to each other, Ping request gives request denied. The only change since the first successful try I remember of is the use of Avast Antivirus, at that I time I had McAfee installed but I stopped avast antivirus and tried again with no success. Here is the list of things I did to setup networking on my computers. 1.All the wires are connected properly; I am sure about this because they both can connect to internet. 2.I ran the Setup for Home or small business netwrk in XP. 3.In PC-A I gave it IP address 192.168.10.1 subnetmask 255.255.255.0 and in PC-B I gave it IP address 192.168.10.2 subnet mask 255.255.255.0. 4.Enabled Netbios over TCP/IP 5.Disable firewall 6.Disabled avast antivirus 7.Workgroup of both PCs is MSHOME 8.Following services necessary for networking are running Server, Workstation and Computer Browser. (Please note that other services related must also be running because both PCs can connect to internet). 9.File sharing is on With all these things done, I cannot still get even a ping reply. I did the same in 2008 but at that time I was able to ping the computers and could not share the files because I could not access the PCs and kept on getting Unreachable message. This time around I cannot even ping the computers. Please please help me Muhammad Ali more

Resolved Question: problem connecting to my own wireless network? says "Connected" but will not connect?

Info: Equiptment: Sony Vaio / Vista / Sky netgear broadband / wireless -sony vaio Laptop suddenly overnight won't connect wirelessly to the net? however it does list it as "currently Connected to Sky40... etc..." -The wireless connection is my own I pay for it (both this laptop and my main 'tower' pc operate fine from this same broadband connection via a wired LAN connection) - The wireless LAN switch is set to 'ON' and is lit green. - The laptop recognises the broadband signal as Excellent: 5bars out of 5 - I reinstalled my PC Sony vaio laptop today to see if this was the problem, but it still lists my netgear Skybroadband router as an Unidentified Network?, After entering my network key, it either lists my connection as "connected" or "connected with limited access" even when connected it will not let me log onto the internet??? - I have used this Sony laptop via the same wireless connection for 2 years without a problem till now? - In cmd the Media state is listed as disconnected? could this be the problem? also DNS servers are fec0:0:0:ffff::1%1, (the others are all the same but with 2%2, and 3%3 at the end. Autoconfig IPv4.. starting in 169, and the link-local IPv6 starts with fe80. (however this cmd stuff is above my computer skills) - Seems to be sending but not recieving bytes, speed is at 54.0mbps I have tried: 1: new IP address 2: dissconecting/ reconecting (both Sky broadband and Laptop) 3: resetting the broadband. 4: reboot/turn on off pc etc. 5: dissabling firewall/antivirus (even updating to new Norton antivirus 2010) 6: Entering new network key 7: 4hrs looking through Forums and yahoo answers etc. trying everything. 8: Trying via cmd with ipconfig /release & renew etc (which comes back with "an error occured....) 9: full Re-installation of my laptop 10: In cmd I Tried to ping www.google.com (ping request could not find host...) anyone who has any ideas please let me know. many thanks B.in the end I used the reset button on the back of the netgear router (using a needle to reset).. previously I had unplugged the netgear router from the mains, and I thought this was the same as reseting the router, but obviously not. so the answer was: reset the router with a pin/needle.... Don't just unplug it from the mains. thanks for your help. more

Resolved Question: laptop suddenly overnight won't connect wirelessly to the net?, but it still recognises my broadband?

Please: Before answering please read what I have tried already numbers 1-8 below I bought a Sony laptop 2 years ago, which I have used on the internet (via wireless) for this entire time. suddenly the internet has stopped working overnight (without me doing anything to settings etc)... The Laptop still recognises the Sky broadband (netgear) it even lists it as [Currently connected to: unidentified network, Access: local only], ( the laptop recognises the broadband signal as strong 5 out of 5) the wireless LAN switch is set to 'ON' and is lit green. IT JUST WONT LET ME CONNECT TO INERNET EXPLORER ANYMORE????? my main 'tower' pc still operates fine from this same broadband connection, but only the laptop has decided to stop working? I've had several pc's for 10 years now, and have never experienced any probs getting connected on the net, or when I have they have lasted a day or so, and have been a wired connection problem, I am relativly computer savy, but have tried everything I know: listed below tried 1: new IP address 2: dissconecting/ reconecting 3: resetting the broadband. 4: reboot/turn on off pc etc. 5: dissabling firewall 6: Entering new network key 7: 2hrs looking through Forums and yahoo answers etc. 8: Trying via cmd with ipconfig /release & renew etc (which comes back with "an error occured....) the only thing left is for me to re-install the computer?, but it is a Sony Vaio and this will not let me do a clean install, will only let me try system restores back to 2months, which I have tried but still no internet connection. anyone who has any ideas please let me know. many thanks B.hi there, I reinstalled my laptop, and the problem was still there (did not have this problem when I orig. set up the lap top to same connection) so I tried to connect via a wired connection, and this works perfect. via wireless the ping thing came back with: Ping request could not find host www.google.com etc etc... checking the DNS stuff is above my computer level, so I don't understand it. but the DNS servers are fec0:0:0:ffff::1%1, the others 3 are all the same but with 2%2, and 3%3 at the end. media state is listed as disconnected? could this be the problem? none of the settings have been changed with my Sky broadband netgear? which is just a white box, that I can't change the settings on anyway? thanks for the help guys, but this one is baffling me?hi there ' just me' yes it is my own broadband connection that i use, which I input a network key for, the network key has been retyped and accepted, but did not solve the issue. looking at my network connection details I have a Autoconfig IPv4.. starting in 169, and the link-local IPv6 starts with fe80. also Josh, yep the wireless LAN switch is set to 'ON' and is lit green. I had written this in the above question, also I would not have been able to see the connection on my lap top which status is "Excellent" after the new install, I even had to reset up my sky broadband, entering the password etc, all this was accepted fine, and without this it would not connect. my pc lists as "currently Connected to Sky40201" It now seems to be both sending and recieving bytes, speed is at 54.0mbps but still won't let me access internet explorer??? more

Resolved Question: Is BSNL's WLL wireless unlimited internet @Rs.250 per month better than Tata Indicom Whiz wireless internet?

I m currently using Tata Indicom Whiz wireless internet. I dont find it good in terms of speed and cost-effective.Besidez the service, I find the rates very expensive than compared to BSNL wirless internet (WLL),which is at Rs.250 + rs 180 for phone rent = Rs.430 per month. I m currently in theTata Indicom Whiz Rs.325 plan which gives me 30 hours of free internet after which I ll be charged 50p/minute during day time and 25p/minute from 0200-0800 hrs. I dont think Tata Indicom works for me. I came to know about BSNL's WLL wireless unlimited internet @Rs.250. I want answers to the following questions - 1.Is the internet speed better than Tata Indicom Whiz? 2.What is the download speed? The download speed for Tata Indicom Whiz ranges from 10Kb to 16kb.On using Download Accelerator,it ranges from 18kb-25kb,but it isnt that fast. Of course,I do understand that it is not broadband. 3.Since its unlimited internet at Rs.430 per month [Rs.250 + Rs.180(phone rent)],is there extra charge for downloading content from the web like audio or video files or watching YouTube Videos? 4.I have read on many forums that BSNL's WLL wireless unlimited internet @Rs.250 per month is cheap and best. Is it the best in terms of wireless internet? Hope you will answer my questions. Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Help please? 10points for the best answer! :)X?

Can you please explain how ICT affects the following aspects of people's life: *Communication *Education For example the communication can be telephone, real-time news, TV, fax etc... Here is an example explaining how ICT has helped 'entertainment and leisure': The internet is a great source of entertainment. There are many online entertainment and leisure activities such as online gaming, gambling, chat rooms and forums. The BBC, NTL and Sky all offer a range of entertainment services accessible via broadband including previews of programmes, sport fixtures and pop videos. As the popularity of these services increases the danger is that people are spending more and more of their leisure time in front of a computer, creating a generation of couch potatoes who don't get enough exercise. However, on the plus side the web provides entertainment for everyone no matter where they live. As well as providing entertainment, the internet can be used to make online bookings. Theatre, cinemas, concerts, hotels and package holidays can all be booked online. Bookings can be made at any time and online catalogues and reviews provide more information than an average shop assistant. This means that people can make the most of their free time. If you are interested in live music you can sign up to receive emails from the main venues. When events are announced the venues send a programme list straight to your PC for free and you can purchase tickets immediately. Or you can download music straight to your iPod or MP3 player. HMV digital and Apples iTunes are two of the sites that allow you to download music legally. I was hoping you could do the same for either 'Communication' or 'Education' or both if you really want to help me :) x Oh and please list the benefits and drawbacks of using ICT for these aspects of life Please please help!!! x more

Voting Question: Wireless network problem.?

Have just moved into a student house with my 6 housemates. I took it upon myself to set up the internet and we have virgin media 20mb broadband with a Netgear WNR2000 wireless router. Set it all up and it works brilliantly for everyone except one of my housemates. His wireless connection just refuses to work. We have tried loads of things and look of loads of forums about the problem but nothing seems to work. What happens is you open up the available wireless networks box and find our network. The signal is fine and he presses connect and a box comes up with a progress bar saying 'connecting'. However the box then just disappears and nothing happens. It should then connect and ask for a network passphrase (because it is security enabled) but it just vanishes. Can anyone help as to why this happens? As I have said everyone else has had no problems, it is only him. more

Resolved Question: Is It BT Yahoo or am I missing something?

IS IT BT OR HAVE I MISSED SOMETHING? My Problems I have had continuing problems with BT Yahoo’s email ever since I (now regrettably) signed up to BT Broadband some months ago on the recommendation of a friend. My Set Up My system is Windows 2000 Professional; where I am the Administrator and user of two Windows 2000 user log in accounts. My connection is via LAN/NIC router and network card and I only use email on one of two networked computers. My computer security includes AVG Pro anti virus, Zone Alarm Pro firewall and Acronis Privacy Expert Suite. I have come to these after many years of research and in my opinion are the best I have found. Email is the most important application for my work. I only need two email accounts – one for domestic and friends correspondence, and one for my work. Previous providers have given me UEMA (unlimited email addresses) or 20 – all on email servers via my email client (Outlook Express). BT only offers customers 4 – all on web servers through Yahoo. My BT primary email account is under my Windows 2000 administrator log in and my two BT email sub accounts are on two separate Windows 2000 user log ins. I do not use the main BT primary account because it’s address is my full name and therefore my identity, which I do not want for important reasons. If they have my full name, they only need to find my address – pretty easy – and I get flooded with junk mail from US investment sharks and dodgy services which I am now too old for! So why does BT not let customers choose the name part of their email address. They ask you to choose an email address when you sign up; but then they completely ignore your choice and insert theirs; with no opportunity to change it. I use Outlook Express for my emails, and have no wish to use a web based email service. This is partly because I find it too slow and limiting. But also because; and although I am fully aware that the internet is not completely secure; web based mail tends to be less secure than dedicated mail server based email using an email client such as Outlook Express, and you can make your use of it as secure as currently possible and less open to hackers. I correspond, publish and post to hundreds of journalists and correspondents all over the world. I am also a private tutor here in UK and use email for assignments to and from students. My email service must therefore be reliable and as secure as possible. The main reason for this is that I may be in contact with correspondents in countries with repressive regimes or under occupation. This is another reason why it is better that my email address does not show my name, so that there is less chance for people to be seen to be contacting me. I can get free web based email from Yahoo, Hotmail and others any time I want, without BT, and use it via Outlook Express; so BT are not giving away anything special with their “Award winning” Broadband regarding email are they? Why does BT not have mail server based email? I assumed this would be available when I signed up with BT Broadband. If I had realised BT used web based email through US owned Yahoo I would not have gone with BT. My old ISP was much better. It was on a mail server where I used Outlook Express – a perfect set up that did everything I needed the way I wanted. Now I cannot even get access to that and have lost lots of important messages and contacts who have thought I had disappeared or was not interested. Pretty Coloured Emails and Home Page. And Nothing But Months Of Problems From The Start The Yahoo web based email service attached so generously with BT Broadband has given me trouble more or less since I first signed up with it some months ago. Since then I have spent many hours and days on and off trying to sort it out – going through all the help files and forums. The first sub account I created verified right away and worked fine immediately. The second did not work. It took a long time (several days) to verify. But it still did not work. Initially this fault was corrected from BT’s technical help centre in India. A couple of weeks later, another of my two sub accounts, the most important one for most of my work, also ceased to work. I haven't used the call centre in India much because; although I find the staff to be superb; it is so long-winded and tiresome, as they have to go through BT’s set procedures every time. Which is probably the reason why it is often ultimately found to be rather useless. India is very advanced in computer technology; and the Indian staff are always thoroughly proficient, friendly, courteous and as helpful as possible. But it seems to me that the problem is with the BT infrastructure or management ineffectiveness or poor and ineffectual training or staff suffering under the constraints of BT’s poor service that is the cause of BT’s problems here. I could originally send via the second BT sub account on Yahoo itself on the web, but not via more

Resolved Question: Playstation 3 Slim Reasons why it is possible and impossible... And What would you believe?

-Playstation 3 Slim Possibility Reasons: Full of leaks of photo spreads and a video stating it was slim. Rumor is pushing too hard for this topic and why would they push so hard if it was not real it's been 2 month's since the "Leak" Retailer's confirm that there will be ps3 Price-cut in U.K according to News sources. PodCast from Gamespot forum slip a word stating "We have one for real" later on deleted the post according to news sources Biggest of all Sony confirmed that the manufacturing cost on these current date dropped by 70% since PS3 was launched. And Component manufacturer of PS3 parts confirmed Sony is doubling the part's shipment to assemble massive supply of PS3.... ( Why would sony do that if PS3 sale's are dropping?? Unless they are going crazy or into something new ) Recent report's saying PS3 Slim will be announced on August 18. or maybe sony wants to implement Price-cut. And -Playstation 3 Slim Reasons why it is impossible. CPU and GPU take's a lot of heat and must be built with a great cooling system which if the cooling fan of PS3 makes PS3 fat and already massive size then how can they slim it up? Matte Casing plus CPU and GPU plus Slim design = Melting issues. Playstation 3 is said to be powerful then what would happen if they will reduce size of components then = Less powerful 2.5 Hard Drive won't fit in. PS3 cooling fan are too huge to fit in and smaller would make it overheat since CPU and GPU heats as hot as a microwave. Optical Blu-ray won't fit in unless Sony use the one's in their Sony Vaio. Ps3 slim "leaked" Design looks crap sony wouldn't design like that!! ohh sorry they already did in fact they did it on PS2 slim. It was just a rumor. No evidence and confirmation. Power Brick which was built-in in the current PS3 won't fit in. PS3 needs a power brick since it's CPU is a broadband produce massive heat and consumes alot of electricity. So which side you are and what do you believe? more

Resolved Question: Unable to log into modem admin page (Bsnl Broadband modem, DNA-A211-I)?

Hi folks, Remember my question in Yahoo Answers forum regarding “ping” and “ipconfig” problems. Now, everything seems to be working fine with the tips all of you provided me, but still I am unable to log into my modem configuration page. When I run ping 192.168.1.1, the result is 0% loss. So, the communication between my computer and the modem seems to be working fine. But typing 192.168.1.1 in the browser does not open the modem admin page. I have disabled all other networks components like, blue tooth, wifi, 1394 connection etc. except LAN. So, conflict or interference from other network components is also ruled out. I am using windows-xp professional in DEL-Y510 laptop, and my modem is ITI make, Model No. DNA-A211-I, made in India. When I type in ipconfig in cmd the result displayed is as follows: Ethernet adapter Local Area connection: IP address……………..192.168.1.2 Subnet mask………….255.255.255.0 Default Gateway……192.168.1.1 Actually, I am trying to configure WAN to make my internet connection available to more than one computer at a time, independent of each other on PPPoE mode. My modem is a modem-cum router with 4-ethernet ports and one Wifi. Currently my modem is configured to bridge mode and I have to log into modem admin page to enable WAN to change it to PPPoE. I’m sure the experts out therey will be able to help me resolve this issue. Thanking you all once again, more

Resolved Question: DD-WRT v23 or v24 on Linksys WRT54G v3.0 router?

OK, if you haven't guessed by now I'm stuck with a WRT54G v3.0 Linksys router hooked up to a Siemens speedstreem 4100 modem. I'm using a dsl connection (I am aware that broadband downloads faster, spare me the b*tching) and by some stroke of madness I am currently downloading at something like 37% of the average user on my ISP. Spare me the port forwarding, UPnP, etc. etc. advice. I assure you I have already tried it. I recently discovered DD-WRT and am very excited to dive in and start using. My router, however, is a DD-WRT virgin so I am not sure how to go about installing my first run, or rather, I know how to go about installing my first run (I read a sh*t load of info on the DD-WRT website) I'm just not sure WHAT I should be installing my first run through. So far, the wiki on the official DD-WRT website as well as the info on the forums has given me conflicting info. Apparently, according to the site, my router can use any version (except mega due to flash constraints), but I'm wondering about v23 and v24. Its between the two. I've heard there are some issues with v24 but I'm willing to try. Honestly, I just want to know (from people who actually know what DD-WRT is and use it or have a deep understanding of the technology that I lack) what they would do given my position. And ANY other useful information you could give me is definitely welcome..... so long as it doesn't brick my router....@ Brian is there any reason in particular why you'd use the micro_generic as opposed to the others? And should I still use a mini_generic to flash my router from the original linksys firmware before flashing micro? more

Voting Question: Did Repubs make America into a 3rd world broadband country?

Check out the article. With their anti-science platform, repubs never took the time to invest in the internet. This attitude was so clearly displayed by Palin: She didn't know anything and she didn't think it was all that important. She would run the country by praying a lot, so it seemed. This seems to be reflected in the state of broadband, IN THE CITIES! We're not EVEN talking rural here. Americans are the laughing stock of the industrialized nations, with their slow speeds. Also, we pay MORE for SLOWER speeds, compared to Europe and Asia. I guess being the richest country in the world, doesn't mean squat if morons are running things. Did repub policies contribute to the sorry state of broadband internet in this country? From article http://www.slyck.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=47643&start=0 "More people are connecting via broadband (and speed hasn't increased dramatically) despite the fact that prices are on the rise. This appears to be attributable to the fact that more people who were previously on dial-up, or had no previous connection, are willing to purchasing broadband connections because of its obvious advantages." http://pewresearch.org/pubs/1254/home-broadband-adoption-2009 Disclaimer: Of course I could NEVER think repubs are morons, or anything else! more

Resolved Question: How can I use a wireless router to connect my wii if my broadband connection is encrypted?

I'm in a new apartment and I'm having a hell of a time getting my Wii to pick up a signal. Ad Hoc won't work, I've never had any luck with the USB wireless adapter for the Wii and NDS with my computer, and basically I've tried everything short of shelling out the ludicrous funds for a wireless router which I, frankly, don't have the money or wall circuits for. Still, if I were to humor the children on the forums saying "buy a ****ing router, you cheap bastard!", how could I even connect my Wii to it given that my apartment has an encrypted network? It's amazing how no one actually read my full post. The issue I have is that my BROADBAND CONNECTION IS ENCRYPTED. So how can I get a wireless connection to work with a passworded broadband network? Also, I have to sign into my broadband connection on the computer each time I use it. more

Resolved Question: Dropout problem with Telstra Wireless Broadband in the bush?

I got Pre Paid Telstra Wireless Broadband when I was in Brisbane last to see if it was any good. In Brisbane the speed were actually fairly slow but when I got back out to the small town I live in now the speed was very good. I hardly used it the first few days but now that I have started using it to surf, use msn and youtube that there is some issues. I was watching the telstra application, called Telstra Turbo Connection, while these problems were happening and it appears the connection will just die. The speeds will be about 500 kbs download and then just drop to 0 for 10-15 secs before starting up again. I could find telstra forum to ask about this and when I e-mailed telstra I got a 'not our problem' response. Anyone else in the bush(or anywhere) find the Wireless Broadband has dropout problems? and is there anyway to lessen the dropouts? more

Resolved Question: Can you please summarise this article and give your opinion?

This is the article: The Scottish tourism industry will be "dead in the water" without embracing new technologies. The warning came from Alan Rankin, chief executive of the Aviemore and Cairngorms Destination Management Organisation, ahead of Tourism Innovation Day, on February 28 in Glasgow. Rankin, former chief executive of the Scottish Tourism Forum, spoke out following results of a Scottish tourism survey carried out by Highland Business Research for Tourism Innovation Day, which showed that 59% of companies felt that they could do better in terms of embracing technology. He said: "The tourism industry will be dead in the water unless it adopts the opportunities presented by new technologies." Many of the companies surveyed, which included accommodation businesses and tourist and visitor attractions in Scotland, cited similar themes when asked about their biggest technology challenges. These included securing funding to develop and increase the use of technology; not having broadband available in their area; being able to update their website regularly; the cost of promoting a small business on the web and staying on top of changing technology and trends such as the growth in use of rich media and Web2.0. Rankin questioned whether Scotland will be able to meet the challenge as quickly as emerging markets. "In the global market, having your website configured for the mobile phone, will become a necessity," he said. "For a lot of people in the Asian economies, the phone is a more important internet mechanism than the computer. This will become increasingly true of the developed markets. "Yet in some of our key rural tourism areas in Scotland, we don't have the mobile technology infrastructure in place - a major obstacle to overcome. Some areas do not even have broadband available." In the Scottish tourism survey, 94% of respondents have not offered mobile travel applications for customers and 96% did not have a version of their website for the mobile phone. Respondents were aware of the importance of social networking sites as a promotional channel, but only 17% of respondents had used such sites for promoting their businesses. Rankin warned that using social networking comes with its own sets of problems. "Such sites can pose challenges in terms of controlling the messages and should a company receive online criticism, it is there for the whole world to see. Companies therefore need to either get their service right in the first place," he said. Tourism Innovation Day, which is organised by the Tourism Innovation Group with Scottish Enterprise, has been designed to inspire and equip Scottish tourism organisations to apply technology, and develop innovative new products and services. Sue Crossman, project director for TiG, said, "The percentage of global hotel bookings made online for the first quarter of 2007 was almost double that of the same period last year. "Internet bookings accounted for 41.2% of total CRS bookings in major hotels chains throughout the world, up from 22% in 2006. "One third of all bookings during the first quarter of 2007 came through hotels' own websites. "With the ever increasing use of the web coupled with mobile phone advances, new technology will let the customer source better deals, and will raise their expectations in terms of receiving more customised tourist information." She challenged businesses of all sizes to raise their game in exploiting new technology, calling for "effective digital portals" to be set up for all of Scotland's main tourist destinations. The portals could use technology similar to popular social networking sites such as Bebo and Facebook, and allow visitors to post comments, pictures or videos about their personal experience of any location or service. Crossman claimed such sites would boost online bookings and help visitors find out more about the quality and variety of tourism experiences on offer. Digital portals would encourage smaller business, such as individual bed and breakfasts, that are still not confident about what the new technology can do for them, to work together to promote themselves and their location. She said: "Some companies are missing out on the available technology and that is not helping our global competitiveness. "There are now cost-effective ways for any accommodation business to offer online bookings; this is a must going forward. New technology, including the kind that allows you to post user-generated content on the web, is very exciting and should be helping destinations get their messages out there effectively." Tourism Innovation Day includes keynote speaker, Ben Vinod, chief innovator at Sabre Holdings, the company behind Lastminute.com. by Phil Davies If you had to summarise that article What would you say?? Do u agree with the article??? more

Resolved Question: Has science teaching failed us?

I see so much wrong science on this forum, not just outdated or competing theories but actual wrong science. Am i nerd to find this upsetting, i also see a lot of what can only be termed 'science hate' i frequently have arguments with Friends over why people should study science, they just say things like 'science doesn't matter its all theories' . Where did it all go wrong, as dependency on science actually increases peoples awareness of it actually seems to have fallen, who actually knows (or even cares) about how broadband works, what chemicals are actually in your food or the latest experiments in Quantum mechanics. Can people please tell me did you find science at school boring? Do you think its important in your life? Do you think scientists deserve to be treated with the suspicion and frequently hate? This is mainly directed at the "evolution is lies, the earth is under 6000 years old crew" Did you just shut off to science because i presume you were taught it...brilliant fmko you came along to illustrate my point perfectly, im not goint to explain it to you, i think you should go read a bookbrilliant fmko you came along to illustrate my point perfectly, im not going to explain it to you, i think you should go read a bookoh dear suffice to say "suffice to say" you are just embarrasing yourself, O'l nick i completely agree, its unwise to let just a few people hold the knowledge, if just one percent of the worlds population was elimnated we would probably lose well over half of the total scientific understanding.oh dear suffice to say "suffice to say" you are just embarrasing yourself, O'l nick i completely disagree, its unwise to let just a few people hold the knowledge, if just one percent of the worlds population was elimnated we would probably lose well over half of the total scientific understanding. more

Resolved Question: How much will 40 gig give me on internet broadband?

Or 8 meg. What does these fugures mean? I am looking at getting SKY broadband, and they say my ''monthly allowance'' is 8 MEG or / and 40 Gig. The internet is normally on all day, as there are 4 of us using it. I do not use the internet for downloading songs onto the pc, yet my daughters DO listen to them on youtube. We dont download films, to the pc itself but again, do watch clips here and there. We also contribute to discussion forums. Most of us holds a facebook acct, and apart from that all we use the web for is surfing / browsing in general. I really dont know if this ''amount of gig'' is enough? Please someone help me, or explain it a little more. My boyfriend is currently confused about the same thing as me. I thought broadband was broad band - UNLIMITED usage! Many thanks in advance. HI dont have an active phone line, sky said they would put one of those in too for free. They did say that the aera I am in has not been upgraded recently, so am limited to which broadband package I can opt for. more

Resolved Question: What is wrong with this answer i gave?

I made this comment on some forum, for this question below, ad was told it was wrong....? The Question ***** I have the parts for a new build PC on order and will be hopefully putting it together this weekend. I need to be able to connect this to the internet somehow. It will be Vista 64bit. Apparently there are no Vista 64bit drivers for my Speedtouch USB Modem (It dates from 2002). My query is, I already have a WinXP 32bit Pc with a broadband internet connection. Can I connect these two Pcs together using an Ethernet crossover cable, and could I access the internet on the new Pc via the old PC? If so how is it easy to do? The New moBo is an Asus P6T Delux and the old one is a Gigabyte GA-K8NSUltra939. They both have LAN ports, or course. ***** My answer ********* You dont actually buy a stand alone router, it usually a 3-in-1 product, a router/switch/modem. Although a stand alone router should have 2 ethernet ports anyway so you would be fine there for 2 PCs, but the ethernet/usb ports you see on a home "router" are acually the switch ports within the device. Straight through cables from router(switch really) to your pc then just plug the other PC in the router and thats it. The DHCP server will assign both PCs a LAN ip like 192.168.1.1 etc... and your router will be assigned an internet ip from your ISP and you are good to go. The only option security wise in the routers settings that you may want to change is the DMZ setting, un-enabling it closes all the ports which would mean you would have to manually forward any ports you wanted to use, hence DMZ is bascially a firewall. As for sharing files between PCs you have to run the netwrok setup wizard on both PCs and then all you need is that both PCs are on the samer workgroup which they will be after the wizard. to see what your workgroup is, right click mycomputer/properties/computer name/change then make sure the workgroup name there is the same on both PC's ********* more

Resolved Question: Questions About PS3 Online Browsing?

Okay heres my situation. My parents have Bigpond Wireless Broadband. We only get 2 bars reception where we live. It DL's at 120 KB\PS. I want to get a PS3 and be able to surf the net from my room. If i get a Wifi adaptor: Will it be really slow like I've heard? Will it use up extra DL usage? Does it cost anything? You know like X Box's Live. But for PS3? You get the basic outline of what i mean. I cant get Wireless internet reception in my room (Wired doesn't work out here period) That's why this is my only option. Resolved Question: How do I unblock my BitComet listen port?

I'm using BitComet as my torrent client but I can't seem to unblock my listen port (there's a yellow circle at the lower right corner of the window). I went through the forums but most of their advice involve unblocking through a router. The problem is my computer doesn't use a router but rather a direct internet cable from my broadband provider (Smart Comm). Can somebody guide me through the process of unblocking both the ip address and the listen port? I've tried making exceptions in the firewall (and even tried disabling my firewall altogether) but my listen port is still blocked. I'm using Compaq Presario M2000 with Windows XP. I thought this might help in case it's a hardware thing. more

Resolved Question: Is 15gb usage allowance enough for me?

I've recently signed up for a broadband package with a company called PlusNet. They offer a package called broadband pro, specifically designed with gamers in mind. This package comes with a host of bonuses - such as traffic prioritisation - that mean lower latency whilst gaming and higher download speeds etc. Sadly, the package only comes with 15gb monthly usage allowance, which has made me slightly nervous. I do download a film every now and then and I also watch Stargate Atlantis and Heroes over the net. I play World of Warcraft, Warhammer Online and a couple of other MMOs as well as generally browsing and forum posting. I am worried that this package won't have enough usage. Could anyone shed some light on how the usage works and whether 15gb is enough? more
