Open Question: Sony PlayStation 3 Network ?

I have a slim PlayStation 3 250Go and 3.15 Software Update. I can't play online gaming because I can't sign up for a new account to the PlayStation Network when clicking on "Sign Up For PlayStation Network" from the PS3 menu. When I click on it, it begins loading the page for more than five minutes and then an error appear saying: "An error occurred during communication with the server. This is a DNS error (80710102)". And when loading, it said "Broadband Internet Connection Required". The PS3 is connected to internet via WiFi. What did they mean "Broadband Internet Connection Required" ? Another problem: When running and surfing the internet using internet browser via PS3 and then I quit the browser, the shows the loading logo in the upper right of the screen and I can't do anything to move from option to option, the PS3 almost freezes. What can I do to fix that ? Thank You more

Open Question: Vodafone Mobile Broadband Help?

Basically I'm getting a laptop and mobile broadband for my Birthday, but I'm a bit confused, so it'd be much appreciated if anyone could help! I'm dead-set on going with Vodafone, as they're my mobile provider and I never seem to have any problems with them. It advertises as their Standard option being - 3GB. You could surf for 100 hours, send 2000 e-mails, download 200 music tracks and 100 short video clips. However, their premium version is only 5GB and advertises it as 100 hours, too. I would only be using my laptop for going on the internet and stuff, not downloading anything. Does this mean you only get 100 hours per month of internet? As being 15, I'm mostly on the internet around 5 hours a day, doing coursework and studying etc. If you need any more information to try and help me resolve this, here's the link... http://shop.vodafone.co.uk/shop/deals/usb-modem-stick-3gb-24-month-15-standard Thanks in advance! more

I get $100 month allowance and I'm paying for this per-month myself, my parents arent. Thanks more

Resolved Question: How can I get fast internet in a rural area?

I'm currently with Sky Broadband, the free version with a 2MB connection. I only receive about 1.2MB of it, due to my phone line being really far away, and basically I could go and buy a 100MB connection but I would still only receive 1.2MB. I've checked Virgin's website and cable/fibre-optic isn't available in my area. So now I'm stuck for options. I play online games so I want at least a 5MB connection, and willing to pay up to around 15-20 quid a month for it. What're my options? more

Voting Question: What are the cons to AT&T's Mobile Broadband?

I'm planning to order a netbook very soon. One of the options from the company I'm ordering from is to pre-install AT&T cellular mobile broadband. I was wondering if I should get it installed or not. I'd only be using it for the netbook, not for phone service. I'm planning to open a YouTube account for my band and it is imperative that I have internet coverage that supports good and heavy media streaming. Is this an issue with AT&T? Are there any other issues (other than cost) that I should be aware about? Please help. more

Voting Question: Question about NAT on my USB wireless modem?

I am currently deployed to Iraq, out here we have very little options for internet. I am currently using an Axesstel USB Wireless broadband modem model MV140NBR, im trying to play Modern Warfare 2, the way I have it set up, is I connect the modem, and then set up a wireless network on my laptop, and connect to it with a wireless adapter on my 360. Ive been able to play a few matches but it takes forever to get a match. I realize its my NAT, which is strict, and all the information and guidelines on the internet on how to port forward and change your NAT to open do not apply to this modem, because its a usb modem, when I connect, and type ipconfig, it does not have a DNS, nor a default gateway. Is there any way I can change my NAT to open using this modem if anyone out there knows, thanks for the help. more

Resolved Question: Trying to set up internet connection on 1st gen PS3 (20G)?

Connected my ethernet cable (CAT5) to LAN port and router. The light on the LAN port of the PS3 never goes on, nor does the light for the respective port on the router. Is my LAN port on the PS3 dead? All the pins are there. Cable is brand new. Made sure the router (a Linksys wireless-G broadband - model WRT54G) knows to allow the PS3 MAC address access - just in case that was messing with its ability to connect. This PS3 model does NOT have wireless. I am NOT attempting to connect wirelessly - I am plugging the cable into the PS3 and the other end directly into the router. I've gone through the network connection option, and it will not complete the set up due to it being unable (or unwilling) to detect the ethernet cable. There is only one port for the ethernet cable on the back of the PS3, which I'm using. Any help is appreciated - can't watch blu-ray without updating my security software!! more

Voting Question: I don't know what the password is for my wireless network!?

My internet was set up a few days ago. I just tried setting up security on my new network. I created the name for the network and thought that it would then ask me to set a password. It didn't. It said that the set up was unsuccessful. I tried using the cd that came with the router to set it up, but that didn't work either. Now I don't know how to undo what I did in the network and sharing center on my computer and the program that came with the router isn't working. Apparently whatever I did worked to make the network secure, but I don't know what the passcode is! I tried the password to my laptop, the 8 digit pin on the back of the router, and the name associated with my computer. None of them worked. When I went to the homegroup options the options for changing the password were unable to be clicked on. I've got my computer hooked up to the broadband wire right now, but the whole point of buying a router was for wireless.... What do I do? more

Voting Question: Wireless connection problem on laptop?

I have recently reinstalled my whole system on my laptop because he had the Blue Screen of Death. Everything is fine now, but I can`t connect to the internet like I could back then. Before, I could easily set up a wireless network and connect to the internet that is provided by my main computer. I also have another laptop, and that one works fine with wireless internet. The problem is-- when I try to set up a " new " wireless connection ( I went from Connect To > Set up a Connection or Network > Connect to the Internet ) it asks me " how do you want to connect ? " The options are Broadband and Dial - up. I remember the last time I set up, there was an option for " wireless ", but I don`t see the option now. And you see, before, even though our internet connection does not work, I can pick up other people`s internet connection. Now, I can`t. I tried turning off and on the internet button ( I have a Dell, so it`s on the side ), but that doesn`t help either. I`m really puzzled at this. Please help if you can. more

Resolved Question: Extending wifi signal from neighbors?

Hello, Ive been without internet for about a month. For some reason I cannot get DSL internet at my house even though people down my road can get it so thats no longer an option. My family also cant get cable internet unless we have the lines put in which comcast said would cost $3000, since our house is pretty far off the road. So my mom got one of those sprint mobile broadband USB modems for now, which would be fine but there is a 5GB data limit per month and I want to play my PS3 online.(Now I have the new call of duty sitting there collecting dust) However, my grandma lives next door to me and can get cable internet. If she gets that, would there be anything to boost the wifi signal from her house to my house (she would not use the internet at all). Her house is not that far away, but there are a few big trees between the houses, which can hurt the signalJT tech, the reason we can't have cable is because we built our own house 10 years ago and for some reason have never had cable lines put in, and our house is pretty far off the road. My mom called them and asked and they sent us a letter with the cost... more

Resolved Question: HELP! need help, good with paying bills and scams?

Hi so, ill try and keep it brief, My Boyfriend works/lives out of town and uses his internet to keep in contact with me, He uses a vodafone broadband stick (the ones that plug into computer/laptop through usb. It broke in the beginnning of October this year, It wouldnt connect to the internet, So he took it to to a vodafone store where he lives and they said they couldnt fix, i think they sent it off to get looked at properly too but the store said he needs to take it back to where he got it from (a store near were i live) to get a new one or get it checked there. When he got it back home he didnt put it back in the computer or anything. he took it to the vodafone store he got it from but they said they couldnt help either. He then got a bill in the post saying it ran up a $200 bill on the 21st of october, he was so confused because he hasnt touched it so he called the vodafone helpline and they said they cant do anything to help him he will just have to pay it, Then another bill came saying another $200 has been used early november. Vodafone wont tell him what to do and wont believe that he hasnt used it, It costs alot to cancel it aswell so hes looking at a pretty big bill. and only has about 2 months to pay it, What should he do, Should he pay for a bill when he shouldnt ? but what other options does he have? more

Resolved Question: Can I delete my broadband connection if I have a wireless connection anyway?

In my Control Panel 'Network Connections' folder (Vista, on a Toshiba laptop) there are three options. Broadband connection, Local area connection, and Wireless network connection. The broadband has been giving me connectivity issues for a week or two now. Whenever I'm using Internet Explorer (Google Chrome works just fine), it will randomly pop up a box that says 'Connect' or 'Cancel' (the broadband). If I click cancel, it says I'm working offline. So in short, should I delete my broadband connection and just keep my wireless connection...or will that screw something up?and if I shouldn't delete it, how do I turn it off? An area above where it's listed says "change settings for this connection", but I don't understand any of the options in the box that comes up after that. more

Voting Question: Running out of internet options?

Im from the south texas area and ive have my current connection with criket wireless (http://www.mycricket.com/broadband) for about a year now, and after a year the speed of the internet has seriously gone down. At peak times the connection is slower than dial up and im still paying about 4x what dial up would cost me. I already talked to customer support and it sounds like its because a lot of other people in my area have it too is why its slowing me down so much, but im pretty much fed up with it. Ive been looking into other ISPs, but it looks like all i can get is DirectTV internet or Dishnetwork internet. They both seems to get the internet from the same place. Im looking to get better internet for gaming on my PC and Xbox for now so my question is, is there anyone that is a current customer of wireless satellite internet that has anything good to say about it? more

Resolved Question: Problems with Internet connection?

I have BT Broadband (not wireless) and the last few months my web connection has been really playing up - I use Firefox and pages only open about 50% of the time. The rest of the time if I try to click onto a webpage it just won't open, and if I open it in a new tab it will open as "Untitled". Sometimes I'll keep clicking and eventually it will open, but other times I'll just have to give up. I thought at first the problem could be Firefox but I have an equal number of problems with other browsers - e.g. with Google Chrome, half the time the pages open as "null" instead of "untitled" and with Internet Explorer it will ask me every single time I try to load a page if I'm sure I want ActiveX to run. I noticed recently that there's actually a symbol on the taskbar which is red with a white cross on it and when I hover over it it says "Not connected. Right click for more options". So I don't understand how I'm even able to access the internet at all. Anyway when I click on it it says, "no network card has been detected." Can anyone tell me what I should do at this point? Thanks. Also, most of the time even when pages do open they are very slow. more

Voting Question: my broadband modem is working fine but i cannot access the Internet?

I'm having a problem with my internet. All the lights in the modem are steady but I am not able to access Internet. When I try to troubleshoot the LAN connection, it returns an error message that's something like "failed to query TCP/IP settings to this connection". When I try to dial-up, that too fails to connect me to the Net. Well, a few virus were found in my computer yesterday, and I managed to delete them through Avast and malwarebytes. But when malwarebytes was scanning the system, Avast interfered and prompted about a virus and I gave the Delete option. And it seems that virus were deleted fully. During and after that session, the Net has been blocked. I uninstalled both Avast and malwarebytes but problem is still there. Any help in this regard would be highly appreciated. Thank you.Thank you all for your answers. I am running an XP, and I have tried System Restore but to no avail. Their is no 'successful' restoration points. I appreciate all the replies and expect further remedies. Any help is welcome. Thank you. more

Resolved Question: Connecting to xbox live via cricket broadband.?

I have windows and an e machine computer and I'm trying to connect to xbox live. I have the ethernet cord plugged into my computer and when I go to the control panel, then I click on Network and Internet then Network Sharing center then add a device to the network then when the window popped up and said no wireless devices were found so I clicked on the link that said "I want to add a wireless device or computer that is not on the list using a USB flash drive" and it gave me two options; add a device or computer via flash drive or add a device or computer manually. I clicked on the manually one and a window popped up and gave me options and I clicked the one that said "to add a wire device" and it told me this; Turn on the device and plug it into a hub, switch, or router or into a computer that is plugged into a hub, switch, or router. The device should now be connected to the network. I did that and it told me to confirm that I added the device by clicking on a link that said open network. It said I should see an icon for the device. If the device is a printer, you might need to enable printer sharing so that other computers on the network can use it. (Printer sharing is not included in Windows Vista Starter.) I did so and the xbox 360 icon is there. But I don't know what to do now, if I click on the xbox icon it takes me to window media player? I'm so confused. If I go on the xbox and tell it to connect to xbox live it says there's no connection. help? more

Voting Question: PLEASE READ EVERYTHING AND HELP ME IF YOU POSSIBLY CAN?

Alright, first of all, I have posted at least 3 or 4 questions very similar to this one that deal with the EXACT same problem. At random times, my computer loses its internet connection. Whenever I start up my computer, at random times I will have a box that pops up and asks me what service I want to connect to. As soon as this box pops up I know that I am not connected to the internet. There are options for Wireless, Broadband and Dial-up. I have DSL with a little black box with flashing lights (modem). What should I do when this box pops up? I usually click on connect to Broadband PPPoE. I click on this even though I don't know if I should and it always says connection failed. Well, in the bottom right of my screen, there is a little icon of two computers and the globe (representing the internet) and whenever I move my mouse over it when this happens it says: Currently Connected to: Unidentified network and that my access is local only. Whenever I don't have the connection problem, it says Currently Connected to Network 2 and that my access is local and internet. I have found a way to fix this problem temporarily by turning off my modem and unplugging it, shutting down my computer, turning the modem back on and waiting for the ADSL light to stop blinking and become solid (this is what my phone company's man they sent here to check it out said to do) and turn on my computer and I would have my connection back. Well tonight I tried this two different times and it didn't work but the third time it did. Why do I keep losing the connection like this? How do I stop this from happening or better yet how do I fix this when it does happen? more

Voting Question: (HELP!) If I live out in the sticks and already have satellite Internet, is there a way I can change..?

Change my provider WITHOUT the $300 or more hardware switch? My parents made the mistake of buying WildBlue Internet, and I've been regretting it ever since. I don't know if I can convince them to change, because "it works for them", but I want to know my options if I can. For specific info, I live in Swiss Valley in Dubuque, IA. Neither AT&T or Verizon run out here--they're both broadband based services, and the nearest broadband box is twenty miles out--in Peosta. No line is going to be run down our road for a while--but I can't STAND Dial-Up. Unless I've misinterpreted something about how the real high-speed networks work, is there anything else I can do? more

Resolved Question: What is the best internet connection?

Hi, i have wireless broadband in my house..it gives me 54 mbps....if i use the ethernet cable(Cat5) i get 100mbps....i will be moving my computer to a shed in the garden to study so i will need the internet out there...rather than run a cat5 out to the shed i have heard of these devices that allow you to use the internet via your mains wiring, has anybody used this and is it any good?..will it work if it is plugged into an extension lead or does it have to be plugged directly into the socket?..does it have to be on the same electrical socket circuit? and finally it says it runs at a speed of 200mbps will i get this or only 100mbps as this is the most i get with a cat5 cable?....so which is the best option in your opinion.....thanks guys more
