Led Zeppelin: The Full Report From David Fricke
For the second encore of their first full concert in twenty-seven years, at London's O2 arena last night, Led Zeppelin tore into "Rock and Roll," from their untitled fourth album, with a joyful vengeance. As drummer Jason Bonham hammered with the ghostly precision and ferocity of his late father, guitarist Jimmy Page fired dirty chunks of Chuck Berry and bassist John Paul Jones kept iron time with familiar reserve, singer Robert Plant sang the most obvious words of the night: "Been a long time since I rock and rolled." Overhead, images of a much younger Zeppelin, in concert during the early and mid-Seventies, flashed on a huge digital-video screen. In those films, Led Zeppelin were the biggest, loudest and most cocksure band in rock. Jimmy Page's now snow-white hair was still jet black; Robert Plant was a golden god, not yet a Viking elder, and the late John Bonham — whose death in 1980 abruptly ended Zeppelin's reign — still ruled the engine room.
Post Bank Uganda and Map International Partner to Transform Rural ...
KAMPALA, Uganda, Nov. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Post Bank Uganda has entered into an agreement with Map International, the New York-based multi-dimensional financial services system which links consumers, merchants, banks, mobile operators, and service providers to deliver modern banking services throughout the country, but in particular, to rural areas. It is estimated that more than 90 percent of Uganda's approximately 5 million households do not have access to a bank for a variety of reasons. Throughout Sub-Saharan Africa, it is believed that only one in five adults has a bank account or bank-like institution. In many cases, the cost of opening an account is prohibitive. There are also onerous documentation requirements. For example, in many African countries 75 percent of adults do not have a verifiable address, which effectively disqualifies them from being able to complete a bank application.
Tiscali reduces losses to EUR 3.8 million
The Tiscali group reported a net loss of EUR 3.8 million for the first nine months of 2007, compared to a loss of EUR 67.4 million in the same period in 2006. The positive result is mostly due to a gain of EUR 95.8 million from the sale of its activities in the Netherlands and Germany. Revenues were EUR 614.3 million, up 26 percent from a year earlier helped by the acquisition of Pipex in the UK, while the gross operating result rose to EUR 103.5 million from EUR 67.5 million in 2006. At the end of September, the ISP had 4.2 million customers, of which 2.6 million used broadband and 1 million are on the company's own unbundled networks. Schneier: 'We shouldn't need a security industry'
Outspoken author and security guru Bruce Schneier has questioned the very existence of the security industry, suggesting it merely indicates the willingness of other technology companies to ship insecure software and hardware. Speaking to silicon.com at the InfoSec show at London Olympia this week - a leading trade show for the security industry - Schneier said: "The fact this show even exists is a problem. You should not have to come to this show ever. "We shouldn't have to come and find a company to secure our email. Email should already be secure. We shouldn't have to buy from somebody to secure our network or servers. Our networks and servers should already be secure." Schneier, CTO at Counterpane, said his own company was bought by BT last year because the network realised the need for security to be a part of any service, not an add-on at additional cost and inconvenience to the user.
