Open Question: CAn someone summarize this article for me plz 10 points?
Ok so i am not lazy to summarize it, i don't know how to summarize it i only need 15 sentence for it so yeah plz don't get mad at me. for doing this. ScienceDaily (Feb. 6, 2010) — The water content of leaves, their thickness, their density and other properties can now be determined without even having to touch them. A team of researchers from the CSIC Institute of Acoustics and the Agri-Food Research and Technology Centre (CITA) of Aragón has just presented an innovative technique that enables plant leaves to be studied using ultrasound in a quick, simple and non-invasive fashion. Tomas E. Gómez, one of the authors of the study and researcher at the CSIC Institute of Acoustics, where a technique has been developed to analyse these parts of plants without touching them, explains that "The method involves establishing a silent dialogue with plant leaves, questioning them and listening to what they say."The research, recently published in the journal, Applied Physics Letters, demonstrates that some properties of leaves such as thickness, density or compressibility can be determined with this method."The voice of the leaves itself is what gives us information about their status and their properties, all in an innocuous and silent way since communication is established by ultrasound, with above-audible frequencies," the scientist indicates. The technique involves radiating the leaves with broadband ultrasonic pulses (between 0.2 and 2 megahertz), which are emitted through the air from portable devices. In doing so, the leaves start to vibrate and an ultrasonic sensor very similar to the transmitter detects the waves. The signal is then digitalised and the researchers analyse the resonance range, which enables the characteristics of the leaves to be assessed. The entire process is done in a way that is non-intrusive to the plant. Until now, coupling fluids have been used between the ultrasound transmitter and the material being studied, as is in the case in medicine, for example, when gels or oils are applied to perform an ultrasound. Listening to leaf moisture Eustaquio Gil-Pelegrín, co-author of the study and researcher at the Forestry Resources Unit of the Agri-Food Research and Technology Centre (CITA) in Aragón, which has also taken part in the research, explains that "With this method we can also directly estimate, without contact or interference, the water potential of leaves very accurately."Information about water content enables us to analyse the loss of turgor in the leaves and the internal morphology of their cell layers, which in turn makes it possible to assess the level of development and to see how they are influenced by environmental factors. Research on the status and water potential of plants helps to diagnose the situation of agricultural and natural systems.Gil-Pelegrin emphasises the effectiveness of the technique, "even to detect critical moments for plants, such as stomatal closure." Gas and liquid exchange takes places through these pores on the surface of the leaf, and [stomata] opening is determined by factors such as light, CO2 concentration and water availability. For example, when there is a drought the stomata close.Scientists have successfully applied the ultrasound method to the study of perennial leaves (Prunus laurocerasus and Ligustrum lucidum) and deciduous leaves (Populus x euroamericana and Platanus x hispanica). The team also took cuttings of some leaves to ascertain water loss over time, and they observed variations in leaf resonance and even water mass loss as little as 1%. The details of this line of research will soon be published in the Journal of Experimental Botany. It doesn't have to be 15 sentence it can be 5 sentences moreOpen Question: carphonewarehouse cheated me after giving me a contract, they cancelled the order?
Well I went into a carphonewarehouse store in Birmingham, I liked this Sony Laptop they had in store on offer with mobile broadband. I decided to sign up for it. Because I was already a carphonewarehouse customer they already had most of my details on the system and they signed me up for it after checking a few of my things like bank card and id. I was approved for the O2 mobile broadband. They gave me my O2 broadband contract and my dongle in store and said my laptop would be in store on friday and that I need to just pick it up then. I went home thinking i will get my laptop in 3 days. I waited and waited for them to phone me on friday and they didnt so i went to the store they said its not arrived yet even though they had just had a delivery on friday. On my invoice / documents etc... it said laptop will be delivered to store on thursday. Now something was fishy... so I decided to call O2. they said I need to phone carephonewarehouse. I called carphonewarehouse.. they said the laptop has been delivered to the store. I phoned again.. this time they said they dont know whats happening and they will phone the store.. they promised to call me back soon. waited and waited then got a message in my voice mail saying that the store had made a mistake and they have had to fill in a discrepency... I phoned them again and they said the order had been cancelled for some reason and that they will put me through to sales to re place another order. I said what about my contract and the broadband etc that you already signed me up for with o2. they said I should go to store and call customer service or sales from there. I went to the store and they phoned sales up and checked the notes on their system, they found out that the order had been cancelled by one of their staff and there was a note on the system by O2 saying I cannot go into 2 contracts with o2 in the same month, and that this is fraud. Why has this happened? what are my rights here? I was given a contract for 24 months with O2, My open order was closed / cancelled by carphonewarehouse and because im guessing they made a mistake so they tried to re sign me up for a contract and re open the order quietly hoping it will go back on the system but they ended up making O2 think im trying to do fraud by signing up for multiple contracts in 1 month. What am I supposed to do I have been told by the store that I have to go to the store tomorrow and see the store manager and they will sort it out. I have been told to take my dongle and contract etc with me. What can I do? Should I just give them my contract? What can I do about O2 accusing me of fraud? I want an appology from O2 aswell as carphonewarehouse. I signed up for a contract with them I trust them with all my details they cheat me, cancel my order, charge me £50 for the laptop, give me a dongle and a contract and then I am being accused of fraud when some idiot cancelled my order working in that store...or signed me up more than once. I am thinking I should make copies of all documents incase they try to cheat me after taking the contract of me using an excuse to sign me up again and may be decline me this time... If they decline me this time I seriously want to proceed legally against them because if I have to stick to my contract for 24 months then they should stick to their contract for 24 months. If they wanted to do this why did they approve me in ther first place? If they try anything funny I seriously hope they will be paying me £40 for 24 months and end up giving me a sony vaio and 5 dongles free...for life. What are my rights in this situation? will they cheat me tomorrw? will they sign me up again? will they decline me? can they decline me after giving me a contract? should I just hand it over to them? moreOpen Question: Carphonewarehouse cancelled my order after giving me a contract? what can i do?

I want to buy my parents a laptop with WiFi, so we can voice chat when they're camping in hotspots. Is there an affordable wifi laptop (in the US), that can handle Skype's requirements: # System requirements # PC running Windows® 2000, XP, Vista or 7. (Windows 2000 users require DirectX 9.0 for video calls). # Internet connection – broadband is best (GPRS is not supported for voice calls). # Speakers and microphone – built-in or separate. # For voice and video calls we recommend a computer with at least a 1GHz processor, 256 MB RAM and of course a webcam**. # For High Quality Video** calls you will need a high quality video webcam and software, a dual-core processor computer and a fast broadband connection (384 kbps). I hope to install Skype because it's what I use the most. But if Skype's too process-heavy for the "affordable" laptops, I'll consider Yahoo or Google voice chat if they're easier on processing. **No Vid calls moreResolved Question: How to go wireless with my New Laptop...?
I am buying a New Laptop on Friday. It's got the WIFI technology already built in it. I already have a Desktop PC at home which has Broadband Internet on it. My Router:(BT Voyager 220V ADSL Voice Router) is Wired, connected to PC with Ethernet/DSL Cables to my phone line socket on the wall. So here's my question. I want to have my New Laptop on a Wireless Network, through my existing Router, so i can surf the web! Can this be done? If so, will i have to buy something like this:http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/store/cur_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1121356238.1260843777@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccceadejdkimjelcflgceggdhhmdfoi.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=636685&category_oid= to install on my Desktop for my laptop to pick up the signal for me to start surfing, or is it a bit more complicated than that? Or will i have to buy a Wireless Router/USB Adaptor so that i can have my Desktop PC and Laptop on the web at the same time.? ;) Thank you in advance for all the feed back. ;)Jaded, thanks for you're info ;) I have Windows Vista Premium(32 bit) on my Desktop. And i will have the same on my Laptop also. (I'm still considering getting Windows 7(64 bit) on my New Laptop, as there's a promotion i have seen on the manufacturers Website.) But Vista Premium is my first choice! ;)Thankyou Ian S. I have been with BT for 3 1/2 years now, my latest Contarct was renewed around June/July of this year. I may ring them up to see if i can get a FREE Wireless Router! ;p I would like to keep my existing Router though, and keep my desktop wired to it. But have my New Laptop Wireless. So i suppose i will have to buy a "Wireless Access Point" which i assume is wired to my existing Router so that my Laptop can connect to my Desktop Network? moreVoting Question: Is it possible to hook my cell phone up to my pc for use as a modem with netzero free dial up?
I have an LG cf360 AT&T cell phone with the USB cable. I was wondering if I can use it as a dial up modem without using bluetooth. I also don't want broadband since I don't have a data plan. I simply want to hook my cell phone up to my computer and use the AT&T voice network to establish a good old fashioned dial up connection. The ISP I intend to use is Net zero. I intend to use their free 10 hour a month plan. Would it be possible to do this with my USB cable and phone? Also, if it is possible, do you know where I can find the driver for my cf360? My computer will recognize it in mass storage or music sync mode, but for data service, my computer doesn't know what a cf360 is. I need help establishing an internet connection. My area is getting more wired by the day. I can't even check my school grades without going online. The days of using the library connection are over because of budget cuts. They're open crazy hours. The GOP like to play the part of ‘Poor Opposition Party w/No Voice’ when it comes to working out solutions on the Recession, Health Care, Equal Pay for Women. But when their Big Telecom/Special Interest groups call they find their voice and introduce legislation (i.e. Internet Freedom Act). Where is their voice for the people. Are they only for large Corps & Special Interest group? McCain's bill, the Internet Freedom Act, seeks to do the opposite of what its name implies by ensuring that broadband and wireless providers can discriminate and throttle certain traffic while giving preferential treatment to other traffic. Basically, those in power or those who pay more will have better access. Apparently we have different definitions of ‘freedom'. http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/174221/mccain_moves_to_block_fcc_net_neutrality.html To keep the Internet neutral, Genachowski wants the FCC to formally adopt six principles, four of which have been employed by the FCC on a case-by-case basis since 2005. 1. Consumers are entitled to access the lawful Internet content of their choice. 2. Consumers are entitled to run applications and use services of their choice, subject to the needs of law enforcement. 3. Consumers are entitled to connect their choice of legal devices that do not harm the network. 4. Consumers are entitled to competition among network providers, application and service providers, and content providers. 5. Broadband providers cannot block or degrade lawful traffic over their networks, favor certain content or applications over others and cannot "disfavor an Internet service just because it competes with a similar service offered by that broadband provider." 6. Broadband providers must be transparent about the service they are providing and how they are running their networks. moreResolved Question: Has this ever happened to anyone else?
One time, when I was younger I had phoned my own house to record a voice message. I began to sing down the phone. After I had finished recording my message the 'Women' who says something along the lines of 'Welcome to the telewest broadband answering service, this person is unable to take your call ect' said to me after recording my message ' Im sorry but this message doesn't make sense' has this even happened to anyone apart from me? moreResolved Question: Did you realize that the government is taking over the internet in the next 120 days?
Yes that's right. This health care and sending troops to Afghanistan is a smoke screen for the biggest power grab by the government to date. While everyone was worried about Bush's snooping on the internet, we have completely been bamboozled by the Obama administration. They are taking it over and you will be taxed and policed on every activity you do. One of the biggest booms to the economy is soon going to be regulated by the government and all these numerous taxes will be passed along to you. $50 for internet access will be considered cheap in a few years. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/posttech/2009/10/fcc_moves_forward_on_net_neutr.html BTW, if you didn't know how they are going to stuff it down our throats, they are calling it, "broadband stimulus program." Pretty funny, huh? Just like you guys got all in a frenzy thinking we needed healthcare reform immediately, they are going to do the same thing... telling us that we need to keep up with other countries. Get ready for the big red flag they are waving and don't be naive. We will be compared to South Korea which has the fastest internet connection of all countries. Gee we don't want to be backwards, can't compete, at a time we need to compete. LOL! Your thoughts? moreResolved Question: orange mobile broadband... problems with company?
I have had so many problems with orange as an internet service provider (I have had problems with the laptop they provided me, and, after 3 months, still hasnt been sorted out), and, while talking to one of their customer service team about half an hour ago, I asked to speak to a senior manager. He was adament that I couldnt speak to the manager, because I didnt know their name! I got irritated by this, so, (and I admit) I raised my voice to him, but in return, he startd shouting at me as though I was a pile of poo!!! when I asked him why he's shouting at me, because all I wanted was to speak to a manager, he said, and i quote, 'you're rasing your voice, so I can raise mine' Surely this isn't right, and within the companies customer service. All i want is to speak to a manager! I was wondering if anyone else has had any problems with orange like this, and how it was resolved? thanks moreResolved Question: Can I use my Cricket Broadband Modem to make phone calls?

moreResolved Question: Please help! Phone line connection problems.?
OK, please bare with me while I try to explain. Basically my internet works fine but my phones don't. Set up- The main 'box' if you like where the phone line comes into my house has a two way adapter plugged into it. One wire plugs into this then goes into my kitchen where the first phone is. From the other outlet the wire goes into my phone upstairs and to my router. Neither phone works, but my broadband does. When I pick up either phone there is no dial tone no anything. Silence. No static or anything else. Both phones do work when they are plugged into the main 'box' that leads into the house. The two way adapter is fine and the microfilters are fine. I have tested them and they work perfectly as they should. I have the correct number of microfilters. When I try and call my land line it says I am on the phone and goes to voice mail. I am with Sky for telephone and broadband. Why would both phones not work. If there was a problem with one wire then why should there be with the other. The only place they meet, well kinda meet is the two way adapter that plugs into the main 'box' and as I said thats def fine. Both the broadband and phone line have worked perfectly until the last few days. Broadband has been fine throughout. The phones have been a bit funny over the last 2 or 3 days. First they did not work for an hour here, an hour there. Now they are not working at all the way I have it set up. I have contacted Sky and they say there is no fault with the line. They tested it. They say it is something internal. If I have missed anything please ask but I think I have covered everything. I'm from the UK by the way if that helps. Please help if you can. What could be the problem? Why would the broadband work but neither phone works, even though they are wired up separately. Please help. Thanks in advance! moreResolved Question: How can I make voip calls on VPN without a cracking-voice?
I live in U A E and a few months back, the main ISP has blocked all major VOIP clients from connecting and making VOIP calls is almost impossible on a vanilla internet connection. Therefore, after advice of few users, I switched to making VOIP calls on a VPN tunnel. I first bought a connection from 'VPN Gates' but the voice quality was bad (there was either a very long lag or voice would crack) After wasting time and money, I then switched to a VPN connection from StrongVPN and the result was the same... I am using a broadband/DSL connection of 1MBPS and I have checked that my router doesn't have a problem. I have run ping-tests to my router and to some web sites and there is no packet-loss or anything. While downloading on P2P, I get a great speed and I confirm that I do not make voip calls and P2P at the same time. Therefore, the internet connection is available for full use. All my other web sites work fine and with speed. However, when I make VOIP calls on the VPN connection, although I can hear the other party absolutely clearly, my outgoing voice quality is bad. I am using the products of BetaMax (SmartVoip and BudgetSIP). I have Comodo Firewall installed and have even allowed the default port, which is used by the VOIP client. I have even tried to run VOIP after disabling the Firewall. Does anybody have a good way of how I can make VOIP calls, without getting into any sort of trouble. Even if you suggest an entirely new method or VPN company or VOIP client, I would give it a try. Thanks! Regards MindWell, I want to add here that when VOIP was not blocked by the ISP here, on the same connection, my voice did not crack... the upload speed was thes same at that time too. moreResolved Question: These companies will or may benefit from stimulus money. The customer care failed to explain to me that broadband is dependent to 3g or 2g signal. Everytime i open the internet, "internet can't be displayed" is what i got. There are times i can access, but after a while; i got disconnected while downloading or when chatting thru the messenger. i have several complaints thru their hotlines and one of their service centers, and the instruction was to file a complaint but to now avail yet. I need internet connection now, at least; i can apply for another contract. It seems to me that this kind of service is only being tested to customers. I'm looking for a lawyer right now for consumer right, would it be possible for me to file a complaint? bec i am tied up for a 2 years contract and i am liable to pay the service for two years, yet; i am not getting the real service i have expected. I don't want to become a deliquent payor. Their customer hotline oftentimes tells me "to monitor." Enough of that. It's not my job to monnitor one's services for their profit. For the Php799 monthly bill, i have 60hours "free" of usage. For God sake! that's not free, yet; that "free" hours can seldom connect to the internet. I can't even use voice/webcam bec these are depended to strong signal which is supposedly at pace with the technology. Please help. thank you. moreResolved Question: Can i port my verizon number after canceling? or should I port then have my ETF waived?

Verizon Wireless Customers in the Northeast Area are not affected by the pending sale of Alltel Overlap Markets to AT&T As this appeared in my bill a month ago, I only have until the end of this month to cancel my service. I want to keep my phone number however, and the verizon site says that having my number "ported" will automatically cancel my plan. Is there anyway to have my fee waived and still keep my number?I am well aware that my number can be ported, I'm trying to figure out how to get my ETF waived and still keep my phone number.
