Resolved Question: Does anyone know any ISPs besides Comcast that support Vonage?

I recently discovered DTV4PC 2, and I want my mother and I to cancel our ISP (Comcast). Resolved Question: Vonage or Magic Jack Can They be Used With a Credit Card Terminal?

I am looking to start a small business and need internet access but not a land line phone. I want to get a broadband card from either Verizon or Sprint. I will take credit/debit cards and need a line for the Card Authorization terminal used to swipe the cards and enter pin numbers. Does anyone definitively know if Magic Jack or Vonage can be used with a credit/debit card terminal for authorizations. I called both of these companies and needless to say I was connected to customer service representatives that know nothing about the product and what it can or can't do. more

Resolved Question: Internet Usage Limit and VOIP calls?

Hi, both my brother and I will be in the US from this fall. Hence, we have a Vonage VOIP phone at home to make calls to us. Until now the Broadband Limit of my BSNL Connection was 2.5 GB/month. But since I am leaving to the US and my parents won't be using a lot of Internet except checking emails, I am planning to change the plan from 2.5GB to 1GB/month. (On this page -http://www.bsnl.co.in/service/dataone_tariff.htm, I plan to shift from Home 500 to Home 250) My Q - Will this 1GB limit be enough for VOIP calling considering that my parents will be on the phone with either me or my brother for a lot of time. Basically, how much of data transfer takes place for a 20 minute call for eg. Is it ok if i shift to the lower plan as I need to cost-cut here. more

Resolved Question: VOIP Phone services in INDIA?

Hello All I'm looking for VOIP Telephone Service in India, something exactly like Vonage do. They just issue a phone set, phone number and VOIP adapter and thats it. I don't want a PC to be running like we have to using Skipe & Stanaphone. All I should require is a broadband connection at my home. I would just hook up my VOIP adapter to my broadband and the phone will work like any regular phone. The catch is, if I buy a VOIP system here and hook the same adapter in India then I'll have a US working number in India. Now anyone from US can call this number just like a local number. Now, I want reverse of this. A Indian phone number working in US over VOIP so anyone in India can call me on that number. If you know of any such system existing in India, please reply. Any information is highly appreciatred. more

Resolved Question: Do you pay for your own internet with vonage?

I know vonage works through a broadband connection, but does Vonage provide the internet connect, or is it 24.99 for simply the phone and it's feature. If not, what are some ISPs that won't charge you or cut off for over use of bandwidth and work well with Vonage? more

Resolved Question: Skype phone local US number in India?

Hello all, Thanks for a nice discussion. I have some questions which I will ask here as clearly as possible. My requirement: I need a local US number in India. The phone which has this number should be in India. But people in the US should be able to call this number from their cellphones/landlines as if they are calling a local US number. This phone should be able to call US numbers from India, as if they are local numbers. This phone should have an actual number, and not be a computer. My solution: I bought a Vonage account and their Linksys router from the US and brought it to India. I checked to see that my ISP provides a static address (Tata broadband), installed the router, got an ordinary local phone, and it works perfectly. I have a US local number now in India. My Questions: Is this same thing possible with Skype? Currently my vonage account will only accept my US credit card with US billing address. But I am moving back to India, and I want to know if an Indian credit card can be used. Please provide as much details and personal experience as possible. Thanks in advance.  more

Resolved Question: Will the TiVo Wireless G USB Network Adapter work with my Dynex Enhanced-G Wireless Broadband Router? ?

Resolved Question: Can you use your VOIP service remotely from outside landline?

I have a small business and my field workers sometimes need to make long distance calls within the US. We have broadband connection with 2 VOIP companies, Vonage and OptimumVoice. Both of these carriers already offer us unlimited long distance within the US. For my field workers some locations they visit dont have either phones or don't have long distance service. Im asking if there is a way they can remotely connect to our office broadband VOIPs service and use the long distance service from there? Almost like a calling card system but its running off our current broadband VOIP services. Is this possible?? more

Ok, here's My situation... I am losing my home phone and internet service both on the 27th of this month, so before I do, I'm on my internet now searching for phone service providers and internet too. The problem is this. Alot of ISP's don't service my area and if they do they are UNGODLY expensive!! My question is this...aside from having cable so that I can have both services through someone like comcast, is there a way to get DSL WITHOUT an existing phone line? And what about broadband how does that work? I need some serious help! Thanks a bunch. more

Resolved Question: Is there a significant difference between wireless G and wireless N networks?

Let me explain, i have a wireless G network. I have my xbox 360 and my vonage phone line wired into my router, and a desktop and notebook computer both using the wireless features... Basically i can only really use one thing at once. If im downloading something on a computer everything else grinds to a halt. I have done a little research and i know there is a more expensive version of the same router which falls into the wireless "n" wifi group. If i buy one of these can i notice significant speed increase on my home network? I know its not my broadband i have a 10mb virgin media connection with their newest type of cable modem and only use it for the internet, no television. Futher, i know its not the cappping policy virgin enforce because i can see this problem occuring even during non capped hours. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks yahoo! more

Resolved Question: How to secure the voip (vonage) router which is connected to the primary netgear router.?

I ve got a voip service called vonage which comes with a wireless router. This must be connected to Lan 1 of the Netgear router which provides internet so I can make phone calls through internet. The problem is that I do not know how to put a wep key to the vonage router(DLink) so that no one else can have access to my internet connection. Notice that the Netgear Router has an encrypted key and it comes with Virgin Broadband. However even if the first is encrypted the second is unsecured and anyone can have access.  more

Resolved Question: Will Vonage work with my ADT system? ?

We don't have a traditional "land-line" our phone service is thru the cable co and ADT works just fine with it. Cable phone is the only option we have in our area. We have cable broadband so we wonder if our alarm system would still work if we switched to Vonage? Any help appreciated! more

Resolved Question: Is getting broadband phone with broadband internet access like having a traditional phone and dial-up?

I'm trying to convince my parents to switch to a broadband ISP. Our current one only goes at about 145 kb (it's divided in two since we have two computers, so it should be 300 kb/sec), and we pay about $55 USD a month for it. Well, I don't want to see my dad have the wool pulled over his eyes and get ripped off, so I want him to switch to different service providers for internet and phone. Here's what I'm thinking: get Vonage (http://www.vonage.com/call_plans.php?lid=nav_call_plans&refer_id=WEBSR0706010001W1 ) Residential Premium and Hughesnet's (a.k.a Direcway) Home plan (http://go.gethughesnet.com/plans.cfm ). Our current service combined costs $109, but these new services combined will cost $84.98 USD. Over a year (minus the installation fees), we could save almost $300. The only thing I'm concerned with is that the two services will act against each other like a traditional phone and a dial-up internet connection. Is this true? If not, how does it work? Thanks, your answers are always appreciated!! PS: I only state the third paragraph because I want to tell my dad about it later; I'm not trying to advertise anything, it's just that I can't see my dad get ripped off like this. more

Resolved Question: My dad is retired, should he switch to VONAGE for long distance and local calls?

Resolved Question: Why does Vonage phone service work fine, but since it's been installed my computers can't access the internet?

Is there a reasonable fix to this that doesn't involve countless hours of reading through networking documentation and router configuration manuals? more

Resolved Question: Can I just Try Vonage?

So, We got the free 1 month vonage flyer in the mail today. I read up and I know that it requires broadband and connects to your modem. So I was wondering if I could just see what vonage is like and keep my landline (windstream.) Would that bring up a cancelation fee if I didnt like vonage? What would I do? I don't want to be stuck argueing with Vonage's poor customer service. Thanks. I'll give 10 points to best answer more

Voting Question: My cable internet gets disconnected for some random reason.........Help plz?

I have comcast cable internet service. My comcast modem SB5101 is connect to the router (linksys DI-524) and also to the broadband phone (Vonage). This problem start even before I connected the modem to router and broadband. My internet connection gets disconnected for unknown reason. Once it gets disconnected I have replug it again. Timing for disconnecting is random, sometime it stays connected for weeks and sometime only for 5 min and sometime it gets disconnected when I receive any call. Resolved Question: Is there a service provider that offers cable through broadband?

I currently pay for Cablevisions IO triple play package. It costs 29.95\month for all three services (cable, internet, and phone). My setup is a 42" LCD TV with surround sound hooked up directly to my computer with an RGB cable. My cable comes through the regular cable input. So it's easy for me to watch streamed content from places like hulu, youtube, and such without needing any extra pc card or splitters. What I want to do is cut costs of my services. I can buy broadband from another carrier (AT&T costs 19.99\month) buy a Magic Jack for my phone (39 and change\year). Is there a cable company that streams channels over broadband like the companies that use voip over the phone (magicjack/vonage)? I'm not looking for anything for free, just cheaper with no equipment to buy with a good range of channels. Does anyone know of such a service? Thanks in advance. more

Resolved Question: What are the requirements of house arrest regarding a home telephone?

Specifically, with the advent of new broadband internet phone services such as Charter Telephone, Comcast Voice, Vonage, etc, are these being accepted as home phone services by probation offices? Or, are you required to get the "Normal" old-fashioned type of telephone service? He's not been sentenced to house arrest yet, so I haven't heard that there will be a no-internet restriction. Resolved Question: unlimited VOIP calling plan from USA to Bangladesh cellular?

I am currently living in Bellevue, WA and I am looking for a plan that offers unlimited calling to Bangladesh cellular (to warid network specifically). I can see Joi phone offers a “worldwide premium” service plan but that only gives me 800/month to Bangladesh cellular. Vonage for example has unlimited calling plan to Bangladesh (Dhaka, Ctg) land lines but so far I haven’t seen any plans for unlimited BD cellular. So, if anyone know of such a plan please email me with the details. I have Comcast broadband. thanks, Hasan more

Resolved Question: Has anyone experienced these issues with Vonage?

At any point in time during a telephone conversation, my audio drops and I can hear the other party saying "hello...hello...are you there?" The audio only on my end drops for anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds. I tried their bandwidth saver and then I was on the phone with India for 3 hours a few nights ago. Neither tech 1 or tech 2 could figure out the problem. Both had me go through the same tests. My broadband service is working fine. Vonage has shipped a new device but I have not received it yet. However, I don't have positive feelings that will solve the problem. If anyone has experienced this, please let me know what the root of the problem was. Thanks.John S...have 4 different phones and one's a land line but it's a good idea...will take out phones one at a time and see if it works. Ibet L. Resolved Question: Magic Jack USB VoIP Device. What's the difference between Magic Jack and Vonage?

I have Vonage, which is VOIP, but we pay for Vonage to have our business phone numbers (4 of them) and pay about $50 to $75/month for this and we love it. Plus, we have 1 bellsouth phone landline because we have a security system that requires a landline. I also have a Vonage V-Phone, which is a small USB phone that plugs into any computer with broadband connection. The V-Phone does connect through our vonage account. I'm trying to figure out what the difference in Vonage and Magic Jack is? For Magic Jack, the video said you pay $40 for the usb device and your calls are free. When I went to ebay to see prices for Magic Jack, the description says Magic Jack VoIP Free Calls To and From USA. What's the real difference??? Resolved Question: How do I set up a wireless router with a regular router? Details inside.?

Ok, I have a D-Link (Dl-524) wireless router, set up to a Linksys Rt31p2 (broadband phone port-vonage router) which is then plugged into a RCA comcast modem. I can get online in the current situations (wireless and hardwire) but for some reason I can not set up my xbox 360 online. The xbox 360 is connected with a WGA54G wireless bridge and I have a feeling they are not all set up right to have the same information. I also can not make a home network with this situation. I have a feeling my xbox 360 is only picking up my Dlink information, and not my linksys router information. I am not good in all of the networking terms so take it easy on me. If you have any idea what I am talking about let me know. If you have an idea on what I am saying but I'm screwing it all up, then let me know too, haha. Thanks all. more

Resolved Question: what is the least expensive/best..1) phone service 2) car insurance 3) broadband internet service?

what is the least expensive/best... 1) phone service? I keep hearing commercials for vonage saying it is only $24.99/month for unlimited nationwide calls, but is that really the best/cheapest? Anyone know of any that are cheaper? 2) car insurance? I keep hearing that geico is the best/cheapest overall. Anyone know if this is true? 3) broadband internet service? I keep hearing commercials for netzero, which is only $9.99/month. But is that for broadband, or just dial up? Is it the cheapest? Also, one more question 4) if my father has an outstanding balance on his credit report with Verizon, will he still be able to get phone service with another company? I need to know the above because my father and I may be getting into a mobile home, and if we do I should like to have the least expensive services so we can save money.
