Hi guys, I was wondering: I'm moving out soon to live on my own. In my new flat, I don't want/ need a phone line but I use the internet several hours a day for my job and was wondering what would be my best option. Should I get one of those mobile broadband dongles or should I just get a phone line and home broadband/ wireless (bearing in mind I will never use the phone and have limited funds)? I would get a dongle as I'm the only one who'd need to use it but does that mean my usage is limited or it will be slower? Hi guys, I'm 25 and (finally) planning to move out of my parent's house and live on my own. I'm just wondering how much this would cost per month with bills, internet etc. as I've never lived on my own. To give you an idea of the situation, the rent will cost £450 and I work mostly from home (although I have another job at weekends) so will be using my computer and internet a lot. I live in chilly Scotland so I'm guessing heating will be quite hefty. I also have a car which needs to be insured, diesel to pay for etc. Council tax is band D which is about £80 a month for a single occupant I think. Does anyone know if I'd be able to claim council tax benefits and how much they'd be? I'm on working tax credits as I'm on a low income. Also, I don't really want to have a phone line so will a dongle be sufficient for my internet use or would it be better to get proper broadband/ wireless. Sorry for all the questions: any input would be much appreciated! Thanks xxx moreOpen Question: Will I be able to use my iphones wifi with my wireless internet at home if the phone is locked to optus?

Thank you for reading my question. If you could leave a brief answer it would be most appreciated. I am wondering how ISP's send and receive data. With wireless broadband internet, your ISP sends/receives data to an antenna on the roof of your house which is connected to a modem. My question is what is stopping someone from intercepting the wireless data sent between your modem/antenna and the ISP? Is this connection encrypted or something? How does your ISP even know you exist on their wireless network? I am guessing it must have something to do with the modem that the ISP supplies but I could be wrong... does it have to do with the modem's MAC address or something? Am I even close? moreOpen Question: why is it that my linksys router?

I reset my wireless router and now I can't connect to the internet :'(?
Ok so my idiot brother changed the admin password, and I didn't know the password, he also blocked my laptop on the network, so I reset my router with the hope that I can connect to the router again, but now I can connect to the router just fine, but I can't connect to the internet!!!!! please can someone help me? I have a Huawei HG520 router and I am with talktalk broadband (and it sucks to be honest!) but I hate using my neighbours' unreliable wireless network (Which I am using now by the way) ThanksOh I forgot to mention i know the 192.168........... thing and I know my WEP key, I also changed the settings of the router, still no good. moreOpen Question: Am I doing something wrong with my wireless connection?
I've looked at many posts on this and no one seems to be having quite the same problems as me. We got BT broadband about a month ago and got the BT Home Hub 2.0 with it. We're able to connect our desktop computer with wires but I cannot connect my laptop wirelessly. I say I cannot connect wirelessly but it depends where I am in the house. I can connect in my hall but not in my bedroom (which is at most 10 metres away, if even that, from the hub). I've tried restarting the hub, redoing the connection on my laptop and I've spent time on the website to try and find out how to fix it. Am I doing something wrong or is the laptop too far away to get a signal? My friend can get on it on her laptop in my room so I thought I was doing something wrong but I've tried everything I know to try and fix it and it just doesn't seem to work. I'm completely confused. Can anyone help? moreVoting Question: Im trying to set up an IBM T20 Thinkpad (Win2000) to config with the wireless usb adaptor (installed ok)?
How do i do this so that i can continue and go on to broadband with my wireless router? Thanks moreVoting Question: Why do I have to keep resetting my router?
I have a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband router and my internet keeps disconnecting. What's happened is that I have a computer downstairs where the router and modem is. I have two (recently bought the second) upstairs and they are directly wired to the router. We also used a splitter for the two upstairs computers. The thing is that my internet has been working perfectly until I installed the upstairs computer and hooked it up to the internet. Now the internet randomly shuts down on all computers and we have to reset the router to get it working again, but sometimes it only works for 2-7 minutes. The strange thing is though that the internet on the browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.) stops working, but if I'm playing an online game or downloading something, it works fine. Also most of the time the wireless on my Ipod Touch works perfect, but all the other computers don't. So do I need to buy a new router, install new firmware, or something else? Help!I just remembered, sometimes the internet works perfectly until somebody else gets on another computer and then it crashes. The second computer upstairs is clean from viruses because I just purchased it and haven't really downloaded anything yet. The other two computers are also virus-free; I just ran an antivirus scan on both of them. moreVoting Question: any adapters to recieve wireless internet to pc that's not wifi?
i've recently got a laptop and changed broadband companies to receive the internet wireless. my old pc can only receive the internet through an ethernet cable. are there any adapters such as a usb or dongle that i could just plug in and receive it that way? moreVoting Question: Can anyone recommend a good wireless router for Playstation Network?
I've got a crappy thompson one that comes with O2 Broadband. It's a piece of ****. Can anyone recommend me a router that's around £55 and works very well with it, and is easy to setup? If you're going to recommend can you give me the brand name, model and a link to it? I don't like want one word answers like "Netgear" or "linksys" because I know they're good.I would use a wire, except that the router and PS3 are 50m apart. moreOpen Question: why wont my desktop computer's internet work?
i've got our broadband with Virgin cable and the internets been fine but now my desktop PC wont connect with the Internet? it has a wireless PC card or something which i needed to setup the internet in the first place. every other computer in the house works fine though, but it this one i use/need the most. thanks in advance :) P.S if something like this usually happens i just right-click the computer screen in the bottom right corner and click repair but because this is with Virgin, i have to go through its task manager which is useless. and im running it on XP if that makes a difference. moreTop Broadband Wireless Links
