Resolved Question: Why do Conservative districts consume the most PORNOGRAPHY, could this explain why "Nailn Palin" is so popular?
Porn in the USA: Conservatives Are Biggest Consumers 8 of Top 10 Porn-Consuming States Voted Republican in 2008 Presidential Election By EWEN CALLAWAY Feb. 28, 2009 Americans may paint themselves in increasingly bright shades of red and blue, but new research finds one thing that varies little across the nation: the liking for online pornography. A new nationwide study (pdf) of anonymised credit-card receipts from a major online adult entertainment provider finds little variation in consumption between states. "When it comes to adult entertainment, it seems people are more the same than different," says Benjamin Edelman at Harvard Business School. However, there are some trends to be seen in the data. Those states that do consume the most porn tend to be more conservative and religious than states with lower levels of consumption, the study finds. "Some of the people who are most outraged turn out to be consumers of the very things they claimed to be outraged by," Edelman says. Political Divide Edelman spends part of his time helping companies such as Microsoft and AOL detect advertising fraud. Another consulting client runs dozens of adult websites, though he says he is not at liberty to identify the firm. That company did, however, provide Edelman with roughly two years of credit card data from 2006 to 2008 that included a purchase date and each customer's postal code After controlling for differences in broadband internet access between states – online porn tends to be a bandwidth hog – and adjusting for population, he found a relatively small difference between states with the most adult purchases and those with the fewest. The biggest consumer, Utah, averaged 5.47 adult content subscriptions per 1000 home broadband users; Montana bought the least with 1.92 per 1000. "The differences here are not so stark," Edelman says. Number 10 on the list was West Virginia at 2.94 subscriptions per 1000, while number 41, Michigan, averaged 2.32. Eight of the top 10 pornography consuming states gave their electoral votes to John McCain in last year's presidential election – Florida and Hawaii were the exceptions. While six out of the lowest 10 favoured Barack Obama. http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/Business/story?id=6977202&page=1 moreVoting Question: What Allows for Fast DSL Speeds When Far From C/O?
We're looking at office space for a very small company (currently 2 employees; looking to grow to 8-10 over next 2 years). As we're an online intensive business, affordable broadband is a VERY important deciding factor in selecting office space. We know if we get this wrong, it's like the difference between $1,200/year vs. $5,000+/year in overhead. In looking for offices, we've run into 2 nearly identical situations, in towns about 20 miles apart, where AT&T and/or other DSL providers (MegaPath, NewEdge, SpeakEasy, Nuvox, etc.) are promising VASTLY different available DSL speeds. In both of these situations, the offices are pretty far from the C/O (in one case about 2 miles, in another case about 3-1/2 miles). What is the technology that allows AT&T and certain DSL providers to deliver DSL at distances pretty far from C/O? And how can we confirm whether or not the DSL provider or AT&T will actually be able to deliver BEFORE getting on the hook for an office lease and moving in? What would YOU ask for from the DSL provider, BEFORE signing the office lease? moreResolved Question: what will it take to use up all 120gb of a broadband plan?
i live in australia. currently my internet provider (i think that's what it's called) is bigpond. it is basically dial up speed (25kb/s or something?). there are 4 computers that are used through out the day at my house since my mum runs her own business at home. i want to change to tpg - the 120gb plan for $50 a month and that internet speed is 512k as opposed to my current 25kb/s speed. currently we are paying 60 dollars for crappy internet! but what i'm trying to ask is, what would it take to use up all 120gb? my mum thinks it will all get used up just from loading files which i'm guessing are less than 1mb each. i don't know how to convince her to change our internet to a faster and cheaper one. moreVoting Question: Help me turn this to simple english?

BT has called for an end to the "free ride" it says video websites such as the BBC iPlayer and YouTube enjoy on its network. The telecoms group, which was accused last week of "throttling" iPlayer and youtube performance at peak times, spoke publicly for the first time yesterday about how it hoped to charge content owners for delivery of their programmes over its broadband network. "We can't give the content providers a completely free ride and continue to give customers the [service] they want at the price they expect," said John Petter, managing director of BT Retail's consumer business. What do you think on this or did you even know this is what BT have been doing...i have recently changed from BT Broadband cause i was sick and tired of paying a fortune for a rubbish connection, and was told by a customer service staff that the 20Mbps was certainly not available if my area with any ISP and the best people to be with were BT (them) this was not true as i had already arranged connection with a new service provider for the end of that week with a 22Mbps of which my speed has been consistant for 4 months now of 19.5 - 19.8Mbps and the price i paty is £9.79 a month but at peak times or on friday or saturday nights trying to use youtube or iplayer etc is a knightmare my youtube practically comes to a stop, this above is what i found out that even though i am not with BT Broadband they own the line so they can restrict or throttle how much usage goes to that site......what do you think??? moreResolved Question: The more I hear about 0bama's Net Neutrality, the better I like it. You?
FCC Votes to Begin Crafting `Net Neutrality' Rules Oct 22 12:42 PM US/Eastern By JOELLE TESSLER AP Technology Writer WASHINGTON (AP) - Federal regulators took an important step Thursday toward prohibiting broadband providers from favoring or discriminating against certain kinds of Internet traffic. Despite the concerns of telecommunications companies and the agency's two Republicans, the Federal Communications Commission voted to begin writing so-called "network neutrality" regulations. Proponents say the rules would prevent phone and cable companies from abusing their control over the market for broadband access. FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski said regulations are needed to ensure that broadband subscribers can access all legal Web sites and services, including Internet calling applications and video sites that compete with the broadband companies' core businesses. "Internet users should always have the final say about their online service, whether it's the software, applications or services they choose, or the networks and hardware they use to the connect to the Internet," Genachowski said. The FCC's two other Democrats voted to support his plan. The agency's two Republican commissioners voted merely to start the formal rule-making process, but said they are opposed to the substance of Genachowski's proposal. Republican Commissioner Robert McDowell said he remains unconvinced that broadband providers are engaging in widespread anticompetitive behavior that requires government intervention. "I do not share the majority's view that the Internet is showing breaks and cracks, nor do I believe that the government is the best tool to fix it," he said. Next up for the FCC is to actually craft the rules, with a vote on whether to adopt them expected to come by next summer. That would culminate a five-year debate in Washington that has pitted Internet companies such as Google Inc. against some of the biggest phone and cable companies—including AT&T Inc., Verizon Communications Inc. and Comcast Corp. The broadband providers insist they need flexibility, free from government intervention, to keep their networks running smoothly. They want to ensure that high-bandwidth applications such as YouTube videos don't hog too much capacity and impede other traffic, like e-mail and online searches. They also say that net neutrality regulations would discourage them from expanding and upgrading their networks. "We continue to hope that any rules adopted by the commission will not harm the investment and innovation that has made the Internet what it is today and that will make it even greater tomorrow," Comcast Executive Vice President David L. Cohen said in a statement. But companies such as Google, Amazon.com Inc., eBay Inc.'s Skype and Facebook Inc. argue that without such rules, the broadband companies will become online gatekeepers that can prioritize their own online services or those of their business partners—and potentially put others at a disadvantage. Markham Erickson, executive director of the Open Internet Coalition, called Thursday's vote "the first step toward ... creating a framework that promotes innovation and consumer choice on the Internet." The Open Internet Coalition represents public interest groups and big Internet companies, including Google, Amazon and eBay. Genachowski's plan calls for the agency to formally adopt four broadband principles that have guided the FCC's enforcement of communications laws on a case-by-case basis. Those principles state that network operators must allow subscribers to access all online content, applications, services and devices as long as they are legal. The FCC relied on those guidelines last year when it ordered Comcast to stop blocking subscribers from using an online file-sharing service called BitTorrent, which is used to transfer big files such as online video. Comcast is challenging the FCC ruling in court. Genachowski also wants the FCC to adopt two additional principles that would bar broadband providers from discriminating against particular content or applications and require them to disclose network management practices. And he is seeking to apply all six rules across all types of broadband networks, including wireless systems, which have been largely unregulated. "The time is now to move forward with consideration of fair and reasonable rules of the road," Genachowski said Thursday. "It would be a serious failure of responsibility not to consider such rules, for that would be gambling with the most important technological innovation of our time." I am moving broadband from Sky as I am singularly unimpressed with their low connection speeds, frequent drop outs, attempts to lock you into using only their router and laughable customer service (23 minutes last night to speak to someone whose only technical ability was to ask for the colour of the light on the router). I am currently trying to decide between BE Pro who offer what looks to be a decent business solution at £21.50 and PlusNet Pro who offer a home package for £19.99 both have advantages and disadvantages i.e. BE offer static IP address and higher upload speeds and PlusNet offer you unlimited downloads between 00:00-08:00 and prioritise games traffic but does anyone have any experience with either provider? moreResolved Question: What is compression ratio ?

As I cant really aafforda business contract can my employer essentially force me to knowingly break these T&C's with the ADSL provider, do they not have some corporate responsibility here? I live in a multistory apartment building that has 2 separate apartment buildings with 3 stories each. I live on the basement level. The outside cable access box is right outside of my apartment exterior wall. I have had nothing but trouble with my cable services since moving into the building. Either the reception for the digital box is fuzzy or my broadband internet is not working. While tonight I think I might caught the thief. My internet service and internet digital phone aren't working. I went out to call my cable provider when I found the cable box wide open exposing all the cable connections. I took a picture of the box open for proof for the cable company. I called the company and they said that their box is always to be locked. Well, the box isn't locked and anyone can access free cable services. I've been suspecting someone stealing the cable services for sometime. I would hear the courtyard back door open and then someone playing with the box late at night. I work on my business late night sometimes and that night it was near 3 am when I heard this. Now, who is the person or persons necessary to stop this thief. I know times are hard. I pay over $200 a month for bundled cable services. We are moving in the summer because of various problems in this apartment. I contacted my landlord and he told me he wasn't responsible for the box and the police won't do anything until the company makes a complaint. The business accounts seem very expensive with services which we don't need. Can I get a 'home phone' or 'personal phone' account with a telecom provider?? I'm based in the UK. I look forward to your responses! Thanks for all the answers so far....however.... I can't get skype until I get an internet provider - do I have to have a business internet? I'm mostly curious if I'm allowed to get a home package? moreResolved Question: Question relating to Phone and Broadband services for small businesses?
We are moving to new premises and are unhappy with both BT's customer service and their prices. This has prompted us to change to a new service provider. Can anyone recommend any cheaper companies than BT, who may offer combined phone/broadband bundle? We also need phone lines installing as the building has only just been converted. Are BT the only company who can do this, or are Tiscali, Talk Talk etc. able to? Thanks. moreResolved Question: What is the best Business Land Line/Broadband/Domain provider?

I need a broadband connection in Sydney, Australia that I can use for VOIP. The broadband connection will be for a home internet connection for my family, myself mother and brother, but we need to save money on phone bills. I do need a fixed incoming call number. The internet connection itself will not be used for too much but it would be nice to have a bit to play with for downloading music, theatrical trailers etc, and still be able to make cheap phone calls all month. If we exceed some data limit with our internet will this effect our ability to make phone calls on the connection? It would be convenient but not essential to have 1 bill, two separate providers is fine as I am most concerned with getting the cheapest deal and the most reliable outcome. I am not very technologically or business smart and any suggestions would be much appreciated. Cheers. moreResolved Question: why do we need a phone to have internet?

Several years ago Verizon advertised "unlimited" broadband. What wasn't known, and not in their TOS, was a hidden 5 Gb cap. If you went over this cap, you received a letter saying that if you did it again, your service would be terminated. Now, Sprint (who has the lowest customer service ratings in the business), has said that they were going to cancel the contracts of 1000 customers because they complained too much. Those customers have 30 days to find another service provider. Is everyone as tired of being treated this way as I am? I'd say boycott Sprint/Nextel and go with Cingular or anyone else, see how they like us cancelling THEIR contract? moreResolved Question: Need small/new companies for software development & IT support franchise in expanding our business operation?

well i know that there or a few ways of making wimax: Connecting Wi-Fi hotspots with each other and to other parts of the Internet. Providing a diverse source of Internet connectivity as part of a business continuity plan. In a bit of a bind here...DSL and FIOS are not available in my area, so I need a bit of help choosing an alternative. Here's what I found as options... > RCN and their broadband cable service > Comcast and their broadband cable service > Earthlink and their broadband w / comcast broadband cable I'm not interested in any other services added on, since my current satellite provider and phone service are all right, and I intend to keep them. Now, I think RCN is the better choice, because they offer faster speeds than Comcast (10 mbps vs. 5 mbps at max), but I don't seem entirely convinced, what with RCN having a shaky business history. Suggestions?Umm, let me just say this again. VERIZON DOES NOT OFFER IN MY AREA. No DSL and no FIOS. Clear? Okay, good. And second, RCN is on the list. Kapil, you forgot to click the image.
