Resolved Question: How do I set up my PS3 internet connection?
I have read previous answers and searched but could not find an answer catered to my situation. I have the slim PS3 connected to a old tv(1999 model), an extra short ethernet cable(just one), a linksys router, and a laptop with a wireless card(verizon broadband). I don't know if its relevant but I also have a cox cable box with an ethernet port. I don't have an extra modem except the one for my computer which I can not use because it is upstairs and my ps3 is downstairs. Is it possible to set up internet for my ps3 given the items I have(do I need extra ethernet cable, modem, etc)? Please give me details of how to set it up optimally. Thanks! Thanks for the answer, how about more? For example, anyone knows if I can use just my laptop for connecting to the internet? Thanks. moreVoting Question: I can't get a Wireless Connection while in the car?
I usually take trips with the family, and I was wondering if you can get internet connection while driving in the car (which you can) I have COX and I saw that you can get broadband cards from cell-phone companies(verizon, t-mobile,etc) but does it cost extra. Do I have to end my subscription with COX to start using the broadband card? How much is the card? and Do I have to pay extra for anything, if I buy this card?I meant to say a "Wireless Internet card" moreResolved Question: Differences in routers?

I am in Nevada, and i think the fastest out here is either Clear, or Cox. I heard that Verizon has FIOS, which is super fast, but not sure of the Mbits rating. I am currently with Embarq DSL, but want something speedier. Is Verizon FIOS available everywhere, or just in certain states? thanks for any info you can gimme. moreVoting Question: Attempting to establish a wireless home network..?
Hello everyone, I recently purchased a roku digital movie/television player. Which I was going to add to my netflix account in order to do that I need a wireless internet connection. I went out and bought a linksys wireless broadband router for my cox high speed internet connection. I'm having difficulty with my router establishing an internet connection. Electronics are so much smarter than I am! Any help would be greatly appreciated. moreResolved Question: Best braodband provider in arizona?
We currently have qwest 1.3 mb internet and basic telephone which is about $65 a month. Switching to 7mb will (which is their next package up) will be adding quite a lot of money. I'd like to know what your opinion is on the best broadband provider with at least 7mb and basic telephone and how much it is. Thinking about switching to cox because lots of people say their service is better. Thanks in advance moreResolved Question: Will high speed internet or Fios ever be brought to my not so rural community?
We live in a community that has about 25 or so homes and yet the only type of high speed or broadband we can get is that god awful Satellite nonsense (WildBlue/Hughesnet). Verizon is our phone provider, but they don’t offer any other services in our area. I’ve looked into a wireless USB broadband card as well, but the price is about the same as satellite and the monthly download limit is just as small. The sad thing is that were not even that rural. There’s another community less than 5 miles from us that’s a little bigger and they get serviced by Cox. We even have an elementary school and library exactly 2 miles from us that get lightning fast high internet via some source. So will Verizon or another company eventually ever bring true high speed internet to my not so rural community? moreResolved Question: How can I tell how much broadband usage I have?
How can I tell how much broadband use I have? I'm considering going to wireless, but most of them have some kind of usage limitations. I have no idea how much I'm using, so I can't make an estimate of what plan I need. My cable company (Cox) said they have no idea how much anyone uses it. They have no way to measure. They said my modem (Motorola SB5120) or router (Netgear WGR-614) doesn't log it either. I looked at downloads.com and found things that do WAY more than I want to do. Anyone have anything they have used to measure this? moreResolved Question: What is this for??????

I've only had it a few weeks. Every single day my connection goes out. i literally have to go through the installation process all over again. It says it "cannot ccommunicate with Primary DNS Server" or "A problem with your network router or broadband modem might be preventing an Internet connection" and instructs me to unplug it for ten seconds. I've called tech support TWICE and they've restarted my modem and it works fine for awhile, like now. But after awhile I'll just lose the connection while I'm online. This is everday. I'm tired of contacting Cox and going through having to restart my modem again. If you have any suggestions I would really appreciate it. I've had to type this twice because it cut out on me.Their site is ridiculously complicated. moreResolved Question: An asswhole is viewing all of my info through COX internet as I mentioned before. I am thinking about switchin?
An asswhole is viewing all of my info through COX internet as I mentioned before. I am thinking about switching to cricket wireless (broad band) . I need to know since broad band uses different towers, is it still possible for accessing my account and viewing my personal info and installing bugs through cricket the same way that COX did? Any idea if using broadband providers can also check and control your in and out data as easy as land line providers such as COX? I appreciate any professional opinion! moreVoting Question: Is broadband high speed internet (Cricket, Werizon, …) safer than cable internet (cox) as far as your neighbor?

I'm confused when I read info on EXTERNAL USB tuner sticks. I already have Cox broadband cable - will tuner stick work with it? When I read Hauppauge tuner stick info I am under the impression an antenna has to be set up and perhaps is not compatible with my broadband connection - I just want to plug in and and watch TV - don't care about recording capabilities. I had an internal Hauppauge TV card on my previous computer that worked great - would rather have an external stick on this one if it'll work as well. How or where can I find other ISPs other than the local cable and telecom monopolies? Back in the days of dialup thelist.internet.com was great for this, and still is, but now lists the same national listings no matter how much you narrow it down; even if you click Wireless, all the same ISPs show up. Barring that, are there any low priced broadband ISPs in the 504 area code (new orleans) that are better or cheaper or faster other than cox and bellsouth/att besides satellite? Do all the national DSL providers like Covad etc... actually offer service everywhere even though they list every area code? moreResolved Question: Can I answer my Cox Cable digital telephone through my computer somehow?

i would like to change my ip address. unfortunately, i dont run a "dynamic" connection or have dial-up. i have a broadband connection from cox. there are three computers, all running from 1 router. aside from calling cox, is there a way i can change my ip address without affecting performance (i heard that is an issue). ive been googling and have discovered conflicting advice, so i decided to come here! suggestions?btw, response 1 by pierro was a link to malware. u have been reported, and i suggest others do the same! moreResolved Question: Is LAN a broadband connection?
This is a spin-off of my original question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AioQllB0UTfxA3mO8x3vlV3sy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20080912184026AArGiub I had to ask another question because they keep telling me to get a wireless router or modem and I'm not sure what type of internet connection I have. The wire is plugged into a telephone port and I have Cox high speed internet. moreResolved Question: Starting a petition against a monopoly in a local town?
I am a college student in a town of about 8,000 in Nebraska. The local telecommunications company (American Broadband) has a monopoly over the town. There is no other provider for internet, tv, or phone. I heard rumors that they "paid off" Qwest and Cox. Does anyone know how I would go about finding out if these rumors are true? I have attempted to speak to the owner of American Broadband on several occassions, and he refuses to return my calls. I have also talked to corporate people at Qwest and Cox, who told me they are not authorized to reveal that information. It is next to impossible for anyone with a pre-professional job to afford the ridiculous prices. They want 79 dollars a month just for 1 meg internet, and their bundles are outrageous. It is to my understanding that it is illegal to have a monopoly over a town, and we as consumers have a right to choose between telecommunications companies. I know it isn't a rural service issue, because all of the surrounding areas have Qwest, Cox, Comcast, etc. I thought about starting a petition, as I'm sure the majority of the people in this town would sign it. It is difficult to find accurate information on the internet about starting petitions. If anyone knows the laws concerning these issues, or can direct me to a website/organization who may know, please reply. Oh, and I did try getting a hold of the mayor. Seems he is a VERY busy person. Thanks!! moreVoting Question: PS2/Wii internet trouble ?
Ya the Internet on the PS2 or the Wii is not doing anything. Internet for computer is fine. The Router is Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router 2.4 GHz. And Internet/Cable provider is Cox.I have even set the internet settings and nothing. moreResolved Question: How to get internet on a laptop...
I recently bought an HP laptop, and to get internet right I now I use a wire to hook it up a broadband router. Is there a way I can use the internet if it's not connected to anything? Our internet provider is Cox cable. Please use really simple language I don't kow much about computers. moreResolved Question: Linksys Connection Problems... HELP!
Long story, but please help... Here it is from the start: Well a while ago (1-2 years, idk) my grandma got me, my brother, and my sister computers. They were crappy, old, used, Dell GX150s that were owned by Pratt and Witney, that run wndows 2k. I upgraded all of them to XP home edition using old discs that I had, being the computer expert of the family. My brothers, he used and uses alot and is in working condition. Mine, was missing a logon DLL so i took everything out of it and got rid of everything except the computer with the motherboard in it, and the hard drive. My sisters, she forgot her password. Earlier today, I decided I wanted to use mine again, so I took it out of the garbage bin of stuff that you can't just throw out, cleaned it up a bit and Lysol-ed it, because it stunk of garbage, and took my sister's computer out of the basement to get the parts ( CD-Drive, floppy drive, RAM, Wires, and such, also this the one I was gonna repair at first that i was just gonna put my HDD into, which you will see more about on one of my other questions) And I put it all into my computer. Then, because of the missing DLL, I re-formatted the hard drive and re-installed XP SP1 Hoe edition, which is what it ran after it became mine and had connected to the internet fine, only this time, it didn't connect to the internet so easily. The main computer of my house is on the main floor, and is setup with a "Linksys wireless-G, 2.4 GHz 802.11g broadband router with speedbooster". My computer is on the top floor of the house, with a "Linksys wirelees-G USB Adapter". What happens is, It goes on and off with either no connection or I get a message "connected to the access point, but no internet found" with a medium strength connection, which usually only lasts for a few seconds, and takes about 30 seconds to reconnect again, and yet my computer downstairs always has internet. Here's some MORE info: My ISP is cox. Main comp. is a Dell dimension 2350 with windows XP pro My comp is a Dell optiplex gx150 (low profile comp) with windows xp home, which has, in the past, connected with the same adapter and router on main comp, with no problems. TY In advance, If you need more info, which I doubt anyone will, just say so ad I'll add it. PLEAE HELP AND TY IN ADVANCE AGAIN!!! moreResolved Question: Why does Vonage phone service work fine, but since it's been installed my computers can't access the internet?
Linksys WRT54GSV4 Router Cox Cable Broadband Internet Found the following on Vonage's Forums: http://www.vonage-forum.com/outgoing/out.php?url=aHR0cDovL3ZvbmFnZS5ubWhveS5uZXQv Which refers me to this: http://vonage.nmhoy.net/ I've looked through my router's control panel, but don't want to start messing with the settings there other than the ones I'm familiar with like MAC Filtering, which is disabled, my SSID and network key. Is there a reasonable fix to this that doesn't involve countless hours of reading through networking documentation and router configuration manuals? moreResolved Question: help with wireless internet connection?
We have cox internet connection, with a linksys wireless broadband router. My laptop won't connect to the internet stating that a local area cable is unplugged. We have plugged and unplugged every wire, cable...but it still won't work. i was definitely thinking it was the router...but when my sister came over with her laptop, it allowed her access to the internet, as well as a friend who came over with her laptop. I just bought a brand new Dell 1525. I spent extra money for a "better" wireless card but it will not connect to my father's wireless Cox. If it makes a difference his broadband is "B", I think. I really don't know anything about this! moreResolved Question: What is the fastest, most reliable internet service in Phoenix, AZ?
I currently have Sprint Broadband but it is not reliable. I need it to be fast and have been exploring Quest & Cox. What other options exist? Would like at or above 10.0 Mbps.I also just found out Sprint Broadband is being phased out by July 2008. moreResolved Question: What's the difference between DSL, cable, dial-up and broadband?

First of all, my Xbox is in a different room than my computer, and I can't move it. I have Cox broadband internet. I have a motorola modem that is connected to my computer. The only way I can acces Xbox live is if I disconnect my modem from the computer and plug it into my Xbox. - I need a way to connect to Live while allowing my computer to access the inernet at the same time. - The connection must be fast enough so that I can play multiplayer games without lag on my Xbox. - If you suggest that I use a router, please tell me which model I should get. -My Xbox is about 30 feet away from my computer and is seperated by around 4 or 5 walls. -I cannot run a cable from my computer to my Xbox I also looked into buying another modem for my house, but Cox will charge another $40 a month for another modem. This is too much money, so I want to know if I can just buy another modem and plug it in to my xbox without paying the subscription fee. Will this work? All answers are welcome! moreResolved Question: Is 14.99 AT&T Broadband faster than Cox High Speed Internet?

Is Cox a broadband connection or a dial-up? I feel really stupid asking this but someone please help! moreResolved Question: Wireless Internet service?
Who has the cheapest wireless Internet service in Norfolk, I'm in the Viginia Beach area and thinking about doing so with either a laptop or a desktop with a card, if that it even possible I'm not sure that it is or not. I know that Sprint is around $60 a month and I don't want broadband because Cox is a real pain. Now I'm a bit confused, I thought that the wireless router implied that you already had service with a provider, and that you are running a small home network. I'm referring to getting the service wirelessly from a provider straight up, with no wired access whatsoever. moreResolved Question: New HP Pavillion w/Vista Home Premium prints to HP Deskjet always with mirror image.?
When using USB cable, prints normally. When wireless, prints mirror image no matter what setting. Downloaded updated drivers for Deskjet 3740, uninstalled and reinstalled several times, contacted HP and spoke to 8 different people. Have 3 other HP Pavillions with XP, installed same printer with no problem. All are on same home network, wireless broadband Cox. Vista problem? moreResolved Question: Linksys Router problem - When the Router is all connected to my PC, the PC doesnt get internet.?
Okay the Router is a Linksys Wireless-G 2.4 GHz BroadBand Router. My ISP is Cox Communications which is a Cable Internet. Anyway, i followed all the instructions for the linksys CD. It connected and it worked well. The Internet went to the PC and it went to my PSP like i wanted it to. Problem is, after like 30-40 minutes of use, the internet shuts down from my PC. IE displays Page Cannot be Displayed. When that i happends, the only way i can get internet, is if i take the Ethernet cord and connect it directly from my cable modem right into my Ethernet port in the back of my PC modem. Meaning the Router is no longer involved. I want to know how i can keep the Router connected giving off Wi-Fi signals yet still have the internet connection on my PC. Thanks.Okay so for every 30 mins, i have to unplug my modem and restart? Wth? Thats really gonna be annoying. Isnt there anyway i can just leave it and it will stay connected as long as the internet cord is plugged in!? moreResolved Question: My PC keeps "losing" the internet connection.?
I have to restart the computer to get it back. Nothing else works. The connection icon says I've still got a connection. Turning the modem off and on doesn't help. Logging on as administrator and resetting the connection doesn't help. Once in a great while restarting Explorer helps, but lately even that's not helping. The computer in question is the main computer in our house. It's directly hooked up to my broadband wireless router. The other computers in the house have no trouble staying connected. I've moved to AT&T's broadband service from Cox, and this problem existed with Cox as well. I have Adaware and antivirus programs installed - no spyware or viruses are causing this. I decided to repost this question because the answers from the previous attempt pretty much just asked about things that I've included as additional details above. What do you guys suggest? (Switching to a Mac is not the cost-effective answer I'm looking for.) moreResolved Question: I need help finding out how to hook up my ps2 to playstation on-line, if any directions work the first gets 10

moreResolved Question: Networking What does my IP address look like from outside my wireless router?
I have COx Broadband Internet and using a linksys wireless router. Lets say my IP for the router is 10.10.10.100 and my computers that connect to my wireless router is 192.168.1.1-100. If I wanted to connect to my computer from the other side how would I do that? What would be the IP address. It can't be the 192 because that is not in the range assigned and is common to all linksys by default. Would it be 10.10.10.100 and the comupter name or NIC physical ID? Or is is assigned a port 10.10.10.100:1000 for example?str1der is on the right path, 10.10... was just an example but you pretty much answered my question. Lets say I have a port open internally on 192.168.1.104:8080. My router address is 68.25.1.192 for example. I set my router configuration port forwarding from port 8080 to Computer IP 192.168.1.104. Therefore when an outside computer types in 68.25.1.192:8080 they will actually be connection to 192.168.1.104:8080. I am just using 8080 as an example and will be opening a specific port for a VoIP service. moreResolved Question: Please help me with @$*%&! home computer network!!!?
Got a new beautiful computer to go with my other computer but we can't get them to share the internet connection longer than about 10 minutes without it crapping out. Right now I've given up and hooked up the old computer again directly. Both are Windows XP Home Edition, I use Cox Cable (cable modem LAN w/Motorola modem), I have a Linksys Wireless Broadband router, two brand new ethernet cables, just installed Norton Antivirus 2006 on both, otherwise the one computer is brand new with nothing much else on it. I'd like to share my printer, plus see the files on each computer, plus both use the internet connection. We've tried calling Cox, calling the router tech support, using the Network Troubleshooter with Windows and I'm about to lose my mind. Anyone have any idea what the problem might be and a good step by step website suitable for my needs to help us out?Print and file sharing is not super important, what I really want is to share the internet connection. We got it working today but every 10 minutes or so it seemed to "lose" the IP address or connection to the server and we'd have to disconnect everything and plus back in and then it would work again. We tried to network years ago and had the same problem and gave up but I'd love to make it work this time. Maybe it's something with the cable company? Or my network settings? moreResolved Question: Wireless Routers???
