Resolved Question: Help BSNL Broadband service?
I got a new BSNL BB connection on this July 10. I ordered for the unlimited home combo 750 plan. The guy from bsnl brought an ADSL modem and configured it and connected. He gave me a printed paper printed with something like portal id, bb user id, email id,passsword etc. at its top i can see "Bb Home combo UL 750 monthly Customer" The problem is my internet connction is extremely fast. Its Over 256 kb and over 512 kbps. When i checked in the speedtest.net the download speed is 1.74 mbps! But my ip starts with 117.xxx.xx.x when i tried to check the "track postpaid order" it says "sorry no matches found". I tried to open the post paidorder with that user id, service id and even with e mail id. Im new with BSNL broadband. I have been using the asianet broadband (kerala) till last month. What do you think is the best deal? How 2 beat?
I put this in Politics as Govt promise to roll out superfast broadband Is there a corrupt angle? UK's top broadband rip-offs, together with a few ideas on how you can combat them. 1) Super-fast broadband You might think super-fast broadband sounds amazing. Lightning-fast deals via next-generation fibre technology allow you to surf the net at more than 5 times the usual speed (50Mb). Unfortunately, however, super-fast broadband generally comes with a much higher price tag than packages with standard connection speeds. And I think, at £40 a month, providers are ripping us off - especially when you take into account a 8Mb package with a 10GB usage limit can cost less than £6 a month. The fact is, unless you need faster speeds for things like watching internet TV or downloading HD movies regularly, these packages probably have far greater capability than you really need. If you're not a heavy user, paying the higher monthly cost is a waste of money, frankly. 2) Restrictions on download limits Many broadband providers boast of unlimited download limits, only to accompany these bold statements with a little asterisk which, on closer inspection directs you to a fair use policy that restricts the amount you can actually download. Fair use policies are often a get out of jail free card for providers which advertise unlimited download limits, only to impose penalties or other restrictions if you exceed a certain threshold. And, to make things even more complicated, finding out about your own download habits can sometimes feel like trying to break into Fort Knox. For example, when I called my own provider to ask them about my usage, I was only told that I ‘need not worry'. This ambiguous phrasing may make little difference in my case, but in some circumstances you'll only realise you've exceeded your fair usage limit when you get a warning from your provider – or worse, when a hefty bill lands on your doormat. If you want to gauge your surfing habits, this data usage calculator from Virgin is a nifty tool which will give you an idea of your own monthly usage, which you can then use to get the best plan for you. Alternatively, providers Be and O2 offer super-fast broadband with truly unlimited download limits. 3) Broadband without a landline. If you move into a property without a BT landline in place, it will cost you £124.99 to connect yourself to the outside world, plus £10.50 a month in line rental, unless you commit to an 18-month contract. If you don't fancy forking out all this just to get connected, one alternative is Virgin media which, providing you live in a cabled area, will connect you without the need for a BT line (£30 connection fee applies). In addition, some providers such as Tiscali make use of local loop unbundling (LLU) to bypass BT and offer inclusive line rental. LLU enables ‘local loops' (or put simply, the cable through which you receive your broadband) to be freed up so other providers can design their own broadband packages to provide alternative, and often cheaper services. The third way you can get connected to the internet without the need for a BT landline is via a dongle . Dongles provide a convenient way of getting online, though from experience provide much slower download speeds than conventional broadband. Check out my latest article on dongles . 4) Tag on the line This is one of the sneakiest ways broadband providers can stop you from switching easily. They put what's known as a 'tag' on your line, which is difficult to remove. When you run into trouble, they often point the finger at your landline provider, who then points the finger back at the broadband provider, and so on. What many people don't realise is that you have to talk to the provider you want to switch to and ask them to remove it. Luckily, Broadband Choices offers a handy list of numbers on its website to contact with regards to having a tag on your line. 5) Long contract terms Last but not least, contract lengths for broadband, and indeed your mobile phone are slowly creeping up, and these days you'll often have to sign an 18 and sometimes a 24 month contract in order to secure the best deals. However, there is light at the end of the broadband tunnel, and if you don't want to be tied into a lengthy contract, you could always opt for a provider which doesn't impose one. For example, you can now get one-month only contracts from providers like Plusnet and Zen, which enable you to switch at any time. Obviously, your broadband service is unlikely to be 100% perfect, 100% of the time, but hopefully these small tips will help you on your way to a smoother surfing experience. I am currently using SKY.COM as my provider and it was free of charge as long as I didnt use more than 2gb. Because I mainly use the internet for email and checking facebook I thought this was acceptable but all of a sudden I went over this limit so they bumped me up to 10gb and upped the cost to £5, I reluctantly accepted this but now I am using more than 10gb. I find this hard to understand as the speed isnt great in my area and I dont download films or music just the odd clip and facebook game. I have been told that sky count every minute as download. 1. Is this the case? 2. How many hours can I be on the net? 3. Am I being conned? I thought that a download was a clip, film or music etc and possibly every new page you opened. I've been with BT Yahoo Broadband for 4 years. Then last week my internet slowed down to an unbelievably slow connection speed. Speed tester says it's at 0.5mbps which is really slow i'm assuming. I've checked all wiring and nothing is wrong it's all connected; Phone, Router, Ethernet, all cables and stuff. Nothing wrong. I've checked for spyware, adware etc. and nothing came up. I'm stumped as to why my internet is doing this. It's got to the point where I can't really use the internet on the account of it being so slow. All bills are paid up if that as any factor. Any help would do. I know people say it depends on time of day and how far you are from the exchange but it's been fine for 4 years, I don't see why these probs would just kick in now. Thank You. moreVoting Question: how can i check my broadband internet connection speed?

I am currently with BT as my ISP (not sure exactly which broadband package i am on), and the config page for my router tells me that my ADSL speed is a measely 576/288 Kbps. I will be switching broadband package soon, and have been looking at 02 unlimited broadband, whcih promises up to 20mbps, a significant improvement on my current speed. I have even used my current landline phone number to check the estimated speed i will recieve with 02, and it is roughly 17mbps. Will switching to 02 give me significantly better speeds than i currently have, or is there some other problem causing my internet connection to be ridiculously slow? moreVoting Question: Why will torrents not work for me anymore?
I am from New Zealand and the other day we got broadband internet. I had my computer wiped fully, and only put my music and some of my programs back on. I downloaded utorrent and tried to download torrents, but they just don't seem to work anymore, nor does limewire or anything like that. I can still download through rapidshare at fast speeds, but torrents wont connect to any peers, no matter how many seeds the torrent has. I checked my firewall to see if it was blocking it, and I also checked my utorrent preferences and everything seemed fine. I also tried using bittorrent but that didn't work either. Can anyone help? moreVoting Question: Can you help me with my slow internet problem?
A couple of months back I formatted my computer due to a virus that put me in a 'botnet'... Sky (my ISP) sent me a letter disabling my connection until I reformatted. Since then, my internet connection has been really bad. Some days it is OK; downloading a 3mb file in a minute. However, some days such as today, it is really slow and downloading about 12 kb/s. I have done a speed test on speedtest.net and it came up with this; download; 0.26mb/s upload; 0.32mb/s ping; 62ms Other details you may need; - I'm using Windows XP Home Edition SP2 - 704MB ram - My PC speed is fine. I did a defrag with 'Defraggler' and a cleanup using CCleaner on Tuesday. - I have done scans with Spyware Terminator, Spybot Search and Destroy, and AVG. I know these are not the best anti-virus programs, but I cannot really download a better anti-virus until I get a decent internet to do it with! - I have tried connecting to the internet without the Windows Firewall and there is no difference. - I'm tempted to use Winsock XP Fix but with some of the bad reviews out there and the general description I am not sure it is the option I need to take. - I have reset the router a numerous amount of times, checked all the connections and tried connecting at the wall instead of an extension. I have even tried removing the phones and just connecting with my router. - I am using a Belkin Desktop Card with the white Netgear box provided when purchasing Sky Broadband (DG834GT). - I have no wireless phones or electrical appliances near the router except a television; however this is unplugged. - My Nintendo Wii can connect to the internet fine. - I am on a Basic broadband package but the speed provided isn't as bad as the speed I am getting! - I have no bad processes running; I haven't done a Hijack This but I have checked about my processes and where they are running etc etc. - This isn't just in my browser (Firefox); it affects any program I try and use. When I try using FTP to connect to somewhere, it fails most of the time, and I fail using Windows Live Messenger and Skype. - A 5 minute Youtube video takes about 15 minutes to fully load on a bad day. - I have rung Sky several times and they insist it isn't their end. Their advice is to unplug the router which helps for about 5 minutes; within that time they hang up saying it's sorted. Shows how much they help. - Uploading is usually fine; I can upload at a great speed. - Pages do not come up 'page cannot be displayed', the loading is just really slow. - All the Windows Updates are up to date. So there you are; I've tried a LOT to fix my problem. It's really getting on my nerves now. If you need any more information from me I'll give it to you. Thanks. moreResolved Question: Why is my broadband running slow ?

I live in U A E and a few months back, the main ISP has blocked all major VOIP clients from connecting and making VOIP calls is almost impossible on a vanilla internet connection. Therefore, after advice of few users, I switched to making VOIP calls on a VPN tunnel. I first bought a connection from 'VPN Gates' but the voice quality was bad (there was either a very long lag or voice would crack) After wasting time and money, I then switched to a VPN connection from StrongVPN and the result was the same... I am using a broadband/DSL connection of 1MBPS and I have checked that my router doesn't have a problem. I have run ping-tests to my router and to some web sites and there is no packet-loss or anything. While downloading on P2P, I get a great speed and I confirm that I do not make voip calls and P2P at the same time. Therefore, the internet connection is available for full use. All my other web sites work fine and with speed. However, when I make VOIP calls on the VPN connection, although I can hear the other party absolutely clearly, my outgoing voice quality is bad. I am using the products of BetaMax (SmartVoip and BudgetSIP). I have Comodo Firewall installed and have even allowed the default port, which is used by the VOIP client. I have even tried to run VOIP after disabling the Firewall. Does anybody have a good way of how I can make VOIP calls, without getting into any sort of trouble. Even if you suggest an entirely new method or VPN company or VOIP client, I would give it a try. Thanks! Regards MindWell, I want to add here that when VOIP was not blocked by the ISP here, on the same connection, my voice did not crack... the upload speed was thes same at that time too. moreResolved Question: Issues connecting to internet after computer has gone to sleep...?
Please please please no comments about how you don't like Vista or don't like PCs etc. I happen to love Vista and as much as I love my iPod I will never buy a Mac. I have a laptop running Windows Vista and have some issues connecting to the internet after my computer has been left alone and gone to sleep for a while. The machine is only about a year old, was designed to run Vista, and has had this problem from the beginning. I connect wirelessly to a high speed broadband internet connection. When I start up my computer there are no issues it automatically connects to the internet quickly. However when I wake it up, I have to right click on the icon in the system tray and select "Connect To A Network". I select my wireless network and hit connect - my network is always listed as available and is at full strength. I usually have to try to connect at least 2 or 3 times before it actually connects if I am lucky. It seems like it is timing out, and gives me the message that it could not connect however it seems like it is timing out too quickly. I can tell when it is actually going to connect even before it gives me the message that it has successfully connected because the green scrolling bar keeps scrolling longer. After the first time I try to connect and it fails I select the Diagnose and Repair option that it gives me. Every single time it says that it couldn't find anything wrong and to either try connecting again or check the settings to make sure that they are correct. I verify the settings and try connecting again. Occasionally that works, but most of the time it doesn't. Flipping the wireless switch on my laptop off and then back on after a few seconds sometimes helps too but usually not. I try connecting to the network again (and again and again), if it doesn't connect after about the fifth time I end up restarting my computer at which point of course it connects without problem. Needless to say restarting all the time gets rather annoying. Any tips/tricks to getting a successful internet connection after the machine is woken up from being asleep for a while would be greatly appreciated. moreVoting Question: recently i have taken BSNL Broadband internet connection with type IV modem and now i am sharing the connectio?

I am having severe problems when trying to browse the internet. I am using Firefox mainly, but have the same problems with Internet Explorer. I apologise this is quite a long post, but I really need your help. It's like the browser "times out" immediately, nothing happens when I click a link. Just dead. In Firefox it shows the loading progress of the web page you are trying to get to in the bottom right hand corner - 90% see no progress at all. However, if I keep hitting refresh button or the link of the web page I am trying to get to (anywhere up to 20 times) I see the progress bar working and then the page will eventually load. However, when it does load the page it's usually incomplete, pictures missing often the format of the page completely wrong - layout screwed, fonts incorrect size etc. If I refresh many more times I will eventually get to see the page how it is supposed to be. I have had this computer for over 2 years. I had no real problems with it for most of that time. About 2 months ago I started having the exact same problem I am having now, so decided to Format (for the first time on this computer) which corrected the problem for a couple of weeks. The exact same thing happened not long after so I formatted again & again it was fine... until yesterday. This is not strictly a connection problem. When I use Vuze to download torrents I get decent speeds - up to 700 kb/s and also when I can get on world of warcraft, I stay connected with ms under 200. It is a 2mb broadband connection, but those speeds are decent for such a rural area. I have no download speed caps or limits from my ISP. When I reboot my computer everything works fine for 10 minutes or so. Then this happens ALL over again. I can't begin to explain how frustrating this is. The computer is dual core Pentium D 2x2.66mhz, with 1 GB RAM running Windows XP professional with service Pack 2. The motherboard is ASrock 775i945GZ (full details of it here: http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=775i945GZ) The graphic card is a 512mb Nvidia Geforce 7300 GS. I downloaded and installed the latest set of drivers last night. The harddrive is small - just 80gb with next to nothing on it, I have more than 1000gb on USB harddrives. The computer connects to the net via Router. It is a BT voyager wireless router, but I had problems running wireless so now it is wired via ethernet cables. It connects my girlfriends computer and this one. This computer is placed outside the DMZ. I also have disabled all firewall settings in an attempt to correct the problem. I have not, as yet, had a chance to check my girlfriends PC but when I had this problem in the past she had no such problems. I have turned the router off and on, but have not done a full reset to factory settings as I would have to re-do all my port forwarding settings. If this could be the problem I could do this. I am absolutely stumped I have NO IDEA at all. The only program I installed recently was TMPCGENC DVD author 1.6 it does alter the registry information but does not connect to the net in anyway at all. The only hardware I changed before this problem was the graphic card. I cannot see how this would be the problem. So in short - I cannot load web pages properly. Can anybody offer an explanation? Is there anyway I can stop the browser "timing out" - maybe a manual setting regarding how it loads the information? Should I possibly try "repairing windows" or creating a new partition? moreResolved Question: Infuriating browsing problem?

Should I possibly try "repairing windows" or creating a new partition? moreResolved Question: How do i speed up my download speed for fire fox or other internet explorer?

i have bt broadband homehub for a bout a year and a month or so i started having problems with my broadband! each time i try to go on a youtube video or listen to music on myspace it will take for agees to upload (this will take about 15mins - 1/2 an hour to upload like an 2min video) and if i want to download something it will have the same problem! however, the rest of the computer is operating fast and moslty the intnet is at a normal speed! i only had this problem about a month or so ago and my broadband use to be really fast! i have tried everything from clearing browsing history doing virus checks and checking if my adsl filters are on properly! i had no viruses and the rest of my computer seems to be fine! Additional infromation: ocasionally its not only the uploading is slow its the whole internet but this happens rarely! and i never have probems with msn. Also when the internet is slow my broadband light is norlmally flickering green! do you think i should call bt broadband help? or is there another way of fixing this myself? moreResolved Question: How do i force someone to stop leeching my internet? ?
Ok, so just yesterday, I noticed a significant drop in my Internet speed. This never usually happens, so i decided to do some digging into what was running off my routers connection. On the network map, everything that should have been visible was visible - and one extra item. I went around the whole house checking to see if something hadn't been left connected by accident, and there wasn't. I am still learning about computers and the internet and stuff, so i am not exactly the most tech savvy person at this present time. But i know that when i see something on the network map that isn't supposed to be there, I understand. So, once i saw this item, i immediatley cut off all power on the router and restarted it. Once up and running, the item was no longer there and speeds had returned to normal. 3 hours later, the item is back on the network map and I have once again, returned to a crawl in internet speed. So i cut off all power again, all night... I get up this morning to find a letter from our ISP (BT broadband) saying that if we do not stop downloading illegal files, our internet will be suspended. Hey up! What?! I do not download illegal files! Whats this about?! I contact BT and they were happy enough to give me the details on when, and what, files were downloaded as well as a warning not to do it again. There are over 75 music files, 20 movies and about 8 games downloaded in the past 2 months! Funny thing is, tonight is the only time I've noticed a significant drop in speeds. This leads me to one reason - our internet is being leeched. And turns out, I am right... I go to our neighbour and tell him, kindly, to stop leeching off our connection as it is hindering our speeds and will end up with us booted offline indefinitley. You see the thing is, I have a feeling his daughter is the one getting him access into our connection because she comes to his home at least twice a day every day and presumably does it then. I told him to stop it, he refused quite rudely and claimed he hadn't been doing anything. It is not anyone else because they do not have computers, and the odd one or two have their own internet. What can i do about this abnoxious wanker leeching us? Is there a legal process we can go through to stop this because I am not being kicked off our internet because of his need to torrent every hour of the day. It's fucking annoying!!! moreVoting Question: i have at&t high speed internet?

Pls lol?
Ok I have slow dial up. With dial up, you can’t do anything. I have Myspace, Facebook, AOL and an iPod and them things really need A good connection and don’t do well with dial up. I can barely check my messages on Myspace. My mom says that we don’t need it cuz its too expensive and, "I’m fine with dialup” and, “We have high speed” haha. She calls accelerated dialup “HIGH SPEED”. She has never had to sat down at A comp. with high speed internet and that makes it even harder to make her interested in getting something better. The only kind of Internet we can get besides dialup here is Satellite. DSL or Broadband is not available and wireless want work in my area cuz service is bad and cellphones don’t work good here. I can barely get on anytime I want. Most ppl I know have DSL and they can get on Myspace anytime they want and talk to there friends and I’m left at home with dialup and can’t talk to them because it ties up the phoneline. What is the best thing I can do in this situation? moreResolved Question: How can I check my internet connection speed perfectly? Surfing speed as well as download speed?

We're with BT broadband and it just seems so slow - it takes ages to log on and then it's slow when I'm on and I'm not even downloading huge files or anything, just everyday use such as checking e-mails and online banking. Can I check the speed myself somehow and what should it be? I'm wondering if we're paying for a service that isn''t working??!! I have broadband speed but my internet speed is SO slow. Everytime I open the Internet Explorer browser, pop-up sites & ads keep popping out every minute. I've done almost everything. I have the IE, Yahoo! & GoogleToolbar pop-up blockers turned on. I've already checked the IE Internet Options. I've also scanned the computer using the Ad-Aware 2007 Plus + Lavasoft Personal Firewall, avast! Anti-Virus and CCleaner. None of them worked in blocking the popups. Is there something specific that is wrong in the computer's system? What else can I do? I live in a really small town. The internet sevice I use at this time is high speed through the phone company. It's quite pricey. I've been looking to switch to a less exspencive alternative. I've checked into satalite, but the phone company ownes the area so other companyies can't or won't give me service saying the phone company ownes all of the rights to this area. So I've been thinking about just using something like wirless through a cell phone company like Sprint or Varizon. Wouldn't be much cheaper, but this way I would have all of the long distance I could need and internet too. My ? is this. How fast is it. Is it worth using. I use a 512 conncetion right now and I'm told I would only get 256 wirlessly. Would greatly appreciate answears from anyone with similar exsperience or suck tech. knowledge. moreResolved Question: my internet is running really slow. how can i check what speed my broadband is running at?

Does anyone know how to acquire a no-contract (or, at least, a short term contract) high-speed internet service in the U.S? For example, when I head to the U.S. (Zip code 34134) for my annual vacation in December, if the accommodation I’ll be renting doesn't have it already, I'd like to try to sort out something for myself, and I wouldn't know where to begin. In the longer term, if ever I'm fortunate enough to buy a property of my own over there, I'd like to be able to acquire a broadband service for that too; not just for when I'm staying there, but also for the benefit of any renters that I might succeed in hiring it out to. Obviously, I’d need a high speed service only intermittently throughout the year - a month here and a month there, at most; so, ideally, something that could be activated and de-activated as and when required. I've checked quite a few sites already, but found nothing so far. Thank you in advance for any advice. moreResolved Question: is there a way for my roomate to control my internet speed so they get more? on broadband &/or cable modem....
