Resolved Question: Just clean installed to Windows 7. Why can't I connect to the internet?

Hello all, I decided to do a clean install from Windows XP Pro X64 bit. Installation was perfect, the only problem I can't get around is how to connect to the internet. Here are my specs: ASUS P5N-D Motherboard Dual Band Wireless A+G Model WMP55AG 6GB of Ram Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router In my device manager there's a yellow exclamation mark icon titled as "Ethernet Controller" but I can't seem to get it to work. Also, in my Network Connections, it says: Local Area Connection Network cable unplugged NVIDIA nForce Networking controller When I try to connect to a network it says no connections are available and when I try to connect to the internet, it only gives me 1 option, which is Broadband(PPPoE)... I've been using my Linksys Wireless G Broadband Router, Model WRT54G for about 4 years and it has always worked very well. I have pressed the reset for 30 seconds many times and pressed the Cisco icon on the front to reset that and I still can't connect through the router. I'm getting online now on my PC directly through my Comcast Modem. Any suggestions? more

Resolved Question: How to connect this PSP to a wireless router?

So my little brother has one of the newer PSPs, the silver one. He got it about a year ago. However, when I try to connect it to our router, it won't connect. I am using a Linksys Wireless-G Router (Model WRT54G) with a Charter Broadband Connection. I have the WPA-PSK (TKIP) Security set. However, when I have the security on, the PSP will not connect. I put the security code into the PSP to connect it but it will not connect. But, when I disable the security to none, it will work. The PSP will connect with no security. But, if the security is set, and I put in the code, it will not connect. I have tried changing the code. I also have used my PSP (Older Black Model) and it connect perfectly with the security (After I put in the Code.) What could be wrong and how could I fix it? Voting Question: My Linksys Wireless-G BroadBand Router WRT54G, goes down when Comcast resets my modem's IP, can I fix this?

I've already downloaded the 1/30/2007 firmware upgrade, but the router still just cannot seem to pick up the modem's new IP address. I've also tried reinstalling the Linksys software, but no luck. OK, I have tried everything to get my Wifi and computer to work at the same time. I have Verizon DSL. Westell Model 2200 and a Linksys Wireless-G GHz Broadband Router Model WRT54G. Resolved Question: What's wrong with my router?

K, so yesterday my dad brought up this wireless-g broadband router from the basement. I have a roadrunner cable coming out of the wall and plugged into my computer which gives my computer its internet. The router is old, and there were no instructions in the box. (we must have taken them out at some point.) What I assumed I had to do (based on my previous post here) is to plug that roadrunner cable into the 'internet' port on the router, and plug another ethernet cable out the output prot 1 port on the router and the other end of that into my computer's ethernet port (where the roadrunner port was before). I did this, and upon turning my PC on and trying to get on the internet, it does nothing and says something about a network cable being disconnected. When trying to get online with my PS3, it sees the access point (and it has 100% in the signal strength) but when trying to connect, it says it couldn't because of a DNS error. Trying a connection test, the part that says "obtaining IP adress" says 'succeeded' but then when it gets to "internet connection" it says 'failed and it stops there and repeats the DNS error message. I tried to connect with my iPod Touch as well, but no such luck. Nothing loads. It just seems as though the router isn't working at all. Was I doing it right? Is there some sort of driver I need to install? Please help. Im using a Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G broadband router version 2.2 more

Resolved Question: My wireless router broke, Which new one should i get that would work best with my ps3?

Ok, our main pc is in my office and we had a cable run outside around to the front of our house for our front room pc, We hooked it up to a linksys router so we could get better strength to our ps3 downstairs(instead of using the signal from our office). but now our router in the front room has broke and the ps3 gets like only 20%(if any) from our office router. So im just asking what linksys router should i get for the frontroom? Should i just stick with the same one i had or is there a better stronger one(but still resonable in price) that i should get. Thanks. ---Remember, this whole choice is just so i can get good strength for my ps3. ---the original router i had was a "Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband Router" ---Im getting internet to my pc in the Front room just by plugging the dsl cord straight into my pc instead of having it go through router. more

Resolved Question: How can I get my laptop to pick up the wireless signal in my house?

I have a wireless router (Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router model WRT54G). I got it from Comcast and they installed it. My house is only 2700 sq ft, w/ 1/2 of that being upstairs. The study w/ the computer is downstairs and my bedroom is upstairs. I cannot get a signal upstairs to my laptop. i have had Comcast out to my house 3 times. The guy just left and said he can't do anything more. Said my house is 40 years old and the walls are very thick and the doors are solid wood. Can anyone recommend any solution? Someone told me there is something you can get that sort of "pings" the signal. I think it would be installed at the top of the stairway, sort of like a smoke detector, and then redistribute the signal upstairs. I am very frustrated. I have wireless and just want to be able to use my laptop anywhere in the house. Please help. thanks for the info so far. I can connect when near the router and go to the other end of the house. then, i can keep the signal, often for over an hour. I can never connect without going close to the router. more

Resolved Question: How do I make my router connection secure?!?

Once again I have to ask this question. I asked before, was givin some computer terms, which I dont understand, posted for help, didnt get help from the person who posted the answe, so ended up trying to follow the answer, put screwed up my connections. Heres my question I have a WRT54G-RG - Wireless-G Broadband Router. Whenever I use my laptop to use the internet, I notice that whenever I connect to the internet, there are a bunch of other connections. Mine is called "Linksys", other people have like their last name and stuff. The thing is that my "linksys" connection says unsecure. How do I fix that? I have downloaded the user guide off the linksys website and been reading though it for over an hour. Since im not a computer person, all I've managed to do is get on my router web page. Ive heard that people can use my internet connection and also hack on my computer. So I'll be needing some sort of password thing. All I want to know is how to make my router secure, how to put a password on my router so that no one else can use it, and how to change the name of the connection. It would be really helpful if you could put a detailed, easy, description on how to do that. Some guy, who apparantly is a worker at linksys posted an answer the screwed up my computer. You can see what he posted here, along with the questions, and problems i was trying to ask him: http://ca.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=An6RnWUxqIscqN0nLiRWarbAFQx.;_ylv=3?qid=20081110170253AAmXBc4 So I followed what he wrote, put in a new password, SSID, and disabled my ssid broadcast. I attempted to Enable MAC address filtering and Enable WPA Encryption, and did not understand it. Like for the mac address do I have to find the mac address of the laptop that I want to be able to go on my connection? Cuz i did that and it screwed up everything. This so called "worker at at linksys" failed to actually state how to do this sort of stuff, when i asked for someone to describe easily how to do this. So the problems that occured were, I ended up getting like 2-3 different connections, 1 with a password, the other without. Non of them were secure... Im seriously pissed off right now, and need some easy answers, because I am not a computer person. Thanks! There are 2 types of WPA, WPA pre-shared key, and WPA Radius. I can use anyone right? more

Resolved Question: How do I make my router secure?

I have a WRT54G-RG - Wireless-G Broadband Router. ThanksSo I can change these all on the router website? The one when I type in my ip address right? So the ssid is the name for my router? Like if I go on my laptop to connect to the internet, instead of saying "linksys" it says something else? Ive already changed the passward (you ment the password for when I go on that webpage right), so whenever someone with a laptop tries to go on it, they will need to put in that password? Also, would it be safe to put the SSID as my last name?OMG! I tried every thing u said and it just screwed up my computer. Now whenever i try to log on with my laptop it show "linksys", my old connection, and now it only have 1 bar, even though my laptop is right by it, and It still says unsecure. There is a new connections called "un-named conection" which has full bars and it says unsecure. When I try going on it, it says to put in the SSID, so I put in the new one and click ok. Its the right one, but it says that the connection is to weak, and my laptop is right beside the freaking router!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Most of the stuff u wrote done does not make sense. Like the WPA, u never explained how to actually do it, or anything else. Like the mac address, am I suposed to put in the mac addresses of each laptop that I want to allow on my connection? I asked for an EASY description. more

Voting Question: Can a router really affect all my programs this bad. Should I get a better router.?

I have a Linksys WRT54G router, I have installed it many ways and been on phone with tech many times. I have it connected correctly. But it will not run Xfire chat without disconnection. Will not play my online games. Will not run stattracker for yahoo fantasy football. But I can surf the web. Skype calls are a little in and out. But when I go directly into modem they work great. I heard the newer versions wrt54gs are not as good as the older versions that everything was cut in half and you need to get the GS version to have the specs as the first G series. Mine is version 8.1 .So I ordered a better router. TRENDnet TEW-631BRP IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11b/g, IEEE802.11n Draft 300Mbps Wireless N Broadband Router. Do you think this will fix my problem. more

Resolved Question: LINKSYS Wireless-G broadband router question?

I have a LINKSYS Wireless-G router (model WRT54G) and it claims to have 128-bit WEP encryption, Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) firewall, Packet filtering, and MAC filtering. Right now I am running ZoneAlarm Firewall and it is a big inconvenience having to configure it to allow basic services that run on the computer to have access to the Internet. I am thinking about removing it and sticking with the built in security that my router offers, but I don't know how reliable it is. more
