HP Recovery is included, but I don't know what will happen if I use it. Will it automatically install my drivers for me? I know I'll lose all of the data I have stored on it and I don't mind that. But what will I lose from the programs that came installed on it? Can I download everything for free again? Or are there some programs I won't be able to get back. Resolved Question: Magic Vanishing Data?

Can the installation of a DVD-ROM drive wipe a hard drive? Last night I almost drew that conclusion after my secondary hard drive seemingly dumped all of its data (298GB of 299 free it says). However, programs like PC Inspector File Recovery showed that "clusters" of data could be recovered. The problem is that I have no idea what these files are until (and sometimes even after) I attempt to open them. This leads me to wonder if something I once read about called symbolic links could be responsible. My question is--How do I restore my symbolic links? Or can I? (Or worse, is this unrelated?) *Edit, Carl thanks for the answer, but I would really it if you could provide more details. Resolved Question: HD failure - Please help?

OK, here's what has happened so far and what I tried: Windows wouldn't boot- stuck right after boot screen said no bootable CD Tried several different bootable CDs- said no bootable CD for first drive then hung while accessing the drive that had a disc in it. Tried same thing with other disc drive. Removed HD and put it in an external enclosure: -Windows recognized drive and assigned letter but warning pops up and says it needs formatted before it can be used. -Try to open/browse drive> "I:\ is not accessable. The directory is corrupt and unreadable. I think it is physically working fine but something is wrong with the file structure or partition (it has two partitions) I think it would let me format it but I want to try and recover data first. Is there anyway to recover it? If I do a quick format to correct the file structure could my data be recovered? I tried PC Inspector File Recovery and a few other programs. Here's the weird part. I put a different drive in the original computer (still won't boot- I'm on another one) and I got the same error when trying to boot without a CD, then the same result as before when trying to boot with a CD. It's possible that the power supply damaged the first drive and now has messed up the second one as well but the first one seems fine other than the file structure now that it is in an enclosure. What should I try next? -My Computer shows it as 0 bytes used and 0 free. -file system type is blank (RAW?) it was NTFS -device status says it is running properly (and I can here it spin) -Can't run disc check "because windows can not access the disc" more

I have an external hard drive with bunch of videos in avi format. They range from 4-17 GB. I accidentally deleted them tonight. Immediately afterward, I stopped writing anything to the drive. Since I've tried a variety of data recovery tools (Recuva, Restoration, Handy Recovery, Free Undelete, etc). All of them find the avi files, but they only register ~5 KB and won't recover. Another program Data Recovery Wizard sees them in their full size, but won't recover them. Any thoughts as to what's going on and what I can do to get my videos back? Thank you very much. more

Resolved Question: A Good Broken Hard Drive Recovery Software?

My hard drive took a fall a while back, and now I am left wondering if the data is recoverable. The drive still spins, and doesn't make any bad noises, so I know thats a good sign, but it doesn't show up in Windows. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good software for recovering files from the drive. Also, if anyone knows of a program that has a free trial that shows me all the files that it would be able to recover if I actually brought the program, that would be ideal. thanks more

I have a Fuji camera. Recently while i was uploading some pics, i used Microsoft Picture editor to crop of the pics, and instead of pressing save as i clicked save. is there any way to recover the pic? It's no longer on the XD card either? Every single data recovery program iv'e tried recovers some images from the card, but either doesn't let me preview it nor lets me save it withour buying the program. Any suggstions? Here's the original question. "How to recover data? / logical hard drive failure on previous PC? My old PC had a virus slip by the free AVG antivirus protection program. The PC started acting extremelly odd with web pages opening all on there own, programs and windows becoming un-responsive. Even the task manager started denying my access as though I was no longer the system administrator. In my attempts to correct the issue I wound up wanting to try re-installing the operating system in an overlay install. Because of updates having been installed, when I went to install from my OS cd it would not let me indicating my current operating system was newer. I mistakenly thought I'd just remove the updates and then go from there. Once I did that it was an obvious wrong move and now the PC wouldn't even boot up properly. Now, when I tried to run the OS install cd it was not going to offer an overlay install option. It wanted to start clean and erase all the old data. I did not have anything business related of huge importance, but I did have some pictures of sentimental value so I did not choose to proceed any further at that time. My PC was fairly old and quite slow so to immediately solve the issue and allow me to continue some internet business I had been in the middle of at the time, I actually just went out and bought a new desktop. I had been overdue on buying a new one so no biggie there, and I'm extremelly happy with the upgrade to the new desktop I chose. From looking into the hard drive issue it appears if I'm understanding correctly, and from communication with a local data dr location, that I'm dealing with a logical hard drive failure due to a possible worm virus and then my negative impact as well. Is there a reasonably priced recovery software I could try???? Or could I perhaps take the hard drive out of my old desktop and plug it in as a second one on my new desktop and recover the data that way???? Ofcourse avoiding the virus jumping to my new hard drive. My new desktop has up to date Norton Internet Security 2008. Any advice / help / input would really be appreciated. I'd love to be able to retrieve all my old pictures, and if possible I'm wondering if I could retrieve webpages I had saved to my IE favorites. I had not dealt with any issues with that computer in a long long time so now that I think of it there was also a ton of personally important research oriented info in there. The hard drive I'd like to do a recovery from had Windows XP Home, and my newer desk top has Vista. Thanks so much for any help, or pointing me in the right direction. Laurence" Here was the first answer that I didn't quite follow, and I never did see clarification on it. Though it sounds like the easiest solution I should pursue. If you have bought a new PC and the old one was 'an old one', then you will have SATA drives on new PC and IDE drives on old PC. This shouldn't stop you as you might have an IDE slot on new PC MoBo, but complications may ensue. For $15 to $25 there is a better way. Buy a IDE to USB (or even a SATA or IDE to USB) adapter. These are simple to use, just make sure IDE drive is master, plug in new device to IDE socket on HDD first (indicator towards power socket) then plug in power from wall power supply provided into IDE drive (in the $25), then plug USB from device into new PC and browse the old drive. The old drive comes up just like a USB external HDD (which it now is) in Windows Explorer and you drag and drop the files you want. Clean it up with Norton and your old PC can then be salvaged. I can see no pitfalls - I do this as a kind of second job. Its straightforward and it is regardless of the state of the MBR of the old drive. The old PC is a 4 year old Dell Dimension 4600. OK, I'm halfway following you, but not 100%. Off the top of my head I don't know how to ID an IDE plug/slot or a SATA. So, I'll have to do a Google search there so I know what we are talking about. Then, I'll pop the cover off the Dell to see what I have there. So, the I'm not following you here. Am I going to physically remove the hard drive from the old PC, and then hopefully have an extra plug on the ribbon cable that is on the new PC's HDD that I can also then jump over to the HDD from the old PC. Then, hopefully also have an extra unused plug from the power supply and plug that into the old PC's HDD to power it up. Then, isn't there a little jumper plug that has to be moved on the old HDD to make it a slave and not think it's the master???? More I think about it, I guess I'm not following you. Hi... The file system on my removable hard drive got screwed, now the computer will not access it. I tried several data recovery, undelete programs none of which would do anything. Then I came across a program called Stellar Phoenix, the free trial shows that it can get back the files, but the paid version of the program costs way more than the files are 'worth'. losing them is more at the pain in the behind end of the spectrum, anybody have an idea of a program that could achieve the same but cheap or free? I deleted some personal information from my recycling bin and I know it still stays on my HDD but I got this software that had this description...............Disk Redactor 1.2 is a File Shredder product from cezeo.com, Disk Redactor enables you to wipe the free space on a selected hard drive, thereby overwriting any previously deleted files, making recovery difficult or impossible. The software will not delete any of your existing files, it only wipes files that have already been deleted (but could be undeleted by data recovery programs). Disk Redactor can preserve the last 16k of a drive, an option that should be selected if you are wiping the free space on a system drive (usually C:). I ran it and it appeared to work. So will this file be nearly impossible to recover from my hard disk? more

This did not happen for the first year that I owned the computer . I have high speed internet provided by WOW Cable, and use Internet Explorer as a Browser. I noticed that the problem surfaced a while after installing, via download, a suite of Norton Secvurity features, including anti-virus, anti-spyware, and a firewall. My HP performance evaluator tells me regularly that my firewall, anti-spyware, and anti-virus programs are running. I keep founding these wonderful programs that are "free" but once they find all of my files its like HAHA now you pay $70 or you cant have your files. My hard drive just decided to fail. the thing still works, but windows doesn't even recognize it anymore. A friend of mine worked on it for all of five seconds and discovered that the file system read RAW instead of the original NTFS I formatted it with. I've search the internet for data recovery software, however, the price tag doesn't make things any easier. I don't want to be cheap or anything, I'll pay the money...but I'm wondering is there a freeware or open source program out there that will do everything that the retail data recovery program can do? For example: there's a program called GetDataBack that will restore my files...but is there a free program that will do all GetDataBack (or equivalent) can do? I'm just curious.. Resolved Question: I just bought a laptop and it's telling me that the data for an image viewer is damaged!?

Just two days ago, I bought a brand new Sony Vaio with Windows Vista. I tried to open an image file, but it says that Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 "has been damaged or illegally modified. Please reinstall from your original source." I haven't done anything to the program, and as far as I can tell, it's the only thing on this computer that I can open picture files in. The only discs I was given with the computer are the antivirus, spy sweeper, Microsoft Office, and Geek Squad recovery ones. Is there a way to fix the problem? Or does anybody know of a simple, scrolling, image-viewing program that I can download for free? more

Resolved Question: Windows (XP) Registry problem?

Windows (XP) Registry I receive the following notice every time windows loads after turning my pc on daily (for the past week or more). "One of the files containing the system's Registry data had to be recovered by use of a log or alternative copy. The recovery was successful." I've read others who've had this issue before, but I've never read where someone actually gave advice for how to resolve this issue. Does anyone have any idea how I may begin to track down what file(s) may be causing this, perhaps a way to review the log itself and determine what's creating this issue? One side-note. I believe the problem began a few days (therefore a few startups) after I used a program called "Eusing Free Registry Cleaner". It's a free version, which finds problems in a registry and cleans it up. I thought about using the old registry I backed-up, but I'm afraid I may create more problems since I'm pretty active on my pc, and have created text files and downloaded photos and other things since that time. I wouldn't want to lose any data. I have downloaded "Registry mechanic" also, used it once, that didn't clear the problem, although I didn't really think it would. So my question is, how to trace the cause of the file or files creating this issue? more

Resolved Question: During a checkdisk on my computer I lost a partition during auto recovery, how do I get it or the data back?

I had our home movies stored on that drive along with the backup of our pictures .crw files. I was trying to copy the files from the current drive to the new external backup drive I bought when I started getting CRC errors. I then did a check disk on the drive (which was just a partition of another drive) and had it auto fix problems. It found tons and after it ran I no longer had a partition (I love windows). I need to restore the partition or have a sw program try and recover the files that were on the partition. I haven't done anything with the area on that drive to keep from writing over stuff that might have been there. Computer Management console shows the drive as unformatted so I know it is still there. I don't mind paying for the best sw, but nothing seems to be suited for partition recovery. Any ideas? So far it has been my experience that free recovery sw isn't fantastic, but I'm up for trying them. Running XP pro, 160 GB HD divided into 3 partitions. the first partition is 130 GB and is the one I need to restore. The restore feature in Windows does not restore partitions, you are correct. more

Well, I just had this problem today, and i do not want to format it and loose my data on it. Is there a way to fix this. It is a SATA laptop Hard drive. I dont have sata ports so i can't connect it to my pc besides USB. Any ideas? I know i could fix it by quick formating it then recovery deleted files with some software, but this will take forever, and i have to recover these files onto another hard drive (recovering it on same hdd will corrupt other files as it overitten at least thats what is says on all the program i used before), and i don't have 180GB of free space, and it will take along time especially with USB. The first thing I did is chkdsk, but it says "The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted." Any ideas? I have two hard drives in my computer. Primary = XP Slave = Basic storage for design files. My 'Slave' drive crashed and isn't recognized when I boot into XP. What do I do to recover this information besides hiring someone for a lot of money? The 'slave' drive is recognized in the BIOS. And when I run Data Lifegauard (from Wester Digital) it also recognizes the drive. But if I use data lifeguard, it seems it will format the drive, and thus I would lose my data. Any ideas? I've tried some data recovery programs that work from Windows but they don't see the drive at all. Seems that once I am in XP, nothing can see the drive. Any way to recover using a DOS prompt, and if so...how? Feel free to PM me if you a real expert in this. I have got to have some of those files recovered and I can't afford recovery costs of pro's. ANY MATERIAL DOWNLOADED OR OTHERWISE OBTAINED THROUGH THE USE OF THE LICENSED SOFTWARE IS OBTAINED AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION AND RISK AND YOU WILL BE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR COMPUTER SYSTEM OR LOSS OF DATA THAT RESULTS FROM THE DOWNLOAD OF ANY SUCH MATERIAL. NO ADVICE OR INFORMATION, WHETHER ORAL OR WRITTEN, OBTAINED BY YOU FROM LICENSOR OR THROUGH OR FROM THE LICENSED SOFTWARE SHALL CREATE ANY WARRANTY. LICENSOR IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR CONTENT HOSTED BY CONTENT PROVIDERS. 9.2 Limitation of Damages. LICENSOR, ITS AFFILIATES OR SUPPLIERS, OR THE COMPANIES THAT OWN OR CONTROL THE THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE WILL NOT HAVE ANY LIABILITY FOR, AND YOU HEREBY RELEASE LICENSOR, ITS AFFILIATES AND SUPPLIERS AND THE COMPANIES THAT OWN OR CONTROL THE THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE FROM ANY, LIABILITY (WHETHER IN CONTRACT, WARRANTY, TORT, NEGLIGENCE OR OTHERWISE) FOR ANY DAMAGES SUSTAINED BY YOU ARISING FROM THE USE OR INABILITY TO USE THE LICENSED SOFTWARE, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OR LOSS OF DATA, SAVINGS, OR PROFITS OR THE COST OF PROCURING SUBSTITUTE GOODS, EVEN IF LICENSOR HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. IN NO EVENT WILL LICENSOR’S ENTIRE LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THIS AGREEMENT EXCEED $100.00. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF CERTAIN WARRANTIES OR THE LIMITATION OR EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY FOR INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES. ACCORDINGLY, SOME OF THE ABOVE LIMITATIONS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. 9.3 Indemnity. Licensee agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold Licensor and all of the directors, officers, shareholders, affiliates, employees, and agents of Licensor (collectively referred to as "Licensor’s Agents") harmless against and in respect to any and all claims, demands, losses, costs, expenses, obligations, liabilities, damages, recoveries, and deficiencies, including interest, penalties, expert witness fees, and reasonable attorneys' fees that Licensor, Licensor’s Agents and the companies that own or control the Third Party Software shall incur or suffer, which arise, result from, or in any way relate to: (a) any breach of, or failure by Licensee to perform any of the representations, warranties, covenants or agreements in this Agreement; (b) Licensee’s violation of any applicable law or regulation, whether or not referenced herein; and (c) Licensee’s violation of any rights of any third party (including, without limitation, the right of the third parties who own the Third Party Software). 10. USE OF INFORMATION; PRIVACY POLICY. 10.1 Use of Information. By entering into this Agreement, Licensee agrees that Licensor may collect and retain information about Licensee, including Licensee’s name and email address. Licensor may employ other companies and individuals to perform these functions on its behalf. Examples may include fulfilling orders, delivering packages, sending postal mail and e-mail, removing repetitive information from customer lists, analyzing data, providing marketing assistance and processing credit card payments. These third parties may be given access to personal information needed to perform their functions, but may not use it for other purposes. In addition, Licensor will collect and use anonymous information relating to your use of the Licensed Software application for statistical and related purposes. Licensor may disclose the information to third parties for these purposes but will not use or disclose information about your use of the Licensed Software for any other purpose (unless required to do so by law). Licensor may keep track of your Internet history in order to customize the advertisements provided to you as part of the Licensed Software. 10.2 Privacy Policy. Without limiting the generality of Section 10.1, by installing the Licensed Software, you grant permission for Licensor to collect and use certain information. You acknowledge that you have reviewed the applicable Licensor Privacy Policy, which describes Licensor’s general practices with respect to the collection, use and disclosure of information in connection with your Use of the Licensed Software, which is incorporated herein by reference. Licensor reserves the right to change the provisions of its Privacy Policy from time to time. Your Use of the Licensed Software following the posting of such changes to Licensor’s Privacy Policy will constitute your acceptance of any such changes. Licensor does not make any and hereby disclaims to the maximum extent allowed by law any and all covenants, representations and warranties with respect to its compliance with the statements of intent contained in Licensor's privacy policy. 11. COMPATIBILITY. Licensor does not warrant that the Licensed Software will be compatible with your hardware or other software installed on your computer system. Compatibility issues may cause your computer's performance to suffer. In the event that the Licensed Software is not compatible with your hardware or other software installed on your computer system, the Licensed Software can be uninstalled as provided in Section 7, above. Like all software, the Licensed Software utilizes some of your computer's resources to run, including system memory and Internet connection. Use of the Licensed Software on a computer with inadequate system resources will cause such computer's performance to suffer. 12. USER REPRESENTATIONS AND WARRANTIES. You acknowledge, represent and warrant that: (a) you own the computer on which you are installing the Licensed Software, or have the authority to install the Licensed Software on such computer; (b) your installation and/or Use of the Licensed Software will not violate any local, state or federal laws that apply to you, or the Use or installation of the Licensed Software; (c) Licensor is not causing the Licensed Software to be installed on your computer, but has provided the Licensed Software to you, which you are installing of your own volition; and (d) you have read and fully understand the terms of this Agreement. 13. EXPORT. You agree that the Licensed Software may not be acquired, shipped, transported, exported, or re-exported (A) into (or to a national or resident of) any U.S. embargoed country or (B) to anyone on the U.S. Treasury Department's list of Specially Designated Nationals or the U.S. Department of Commerce's Table of Denial Orders. By using the Licensed Software, you represent and warrant that you are not located in, under control of, or a national or resident of any such country or on any such list. 14. MISCELLANEOUS. 14.1 Entire Agreement. This Agreement and any Third Party Software Agreement set forth the entire understanding of the parties with respect to the subject matter hereof. There are no representations, warranties, agreements, arrangements or understandings, oral or written, between the parties relating to this Agreement which are not fully expressed in this Agreement. No waiver, amendment or modification of any of the terms of this Agreement shall be effective unless in writing and signed by the party affected by the waiver, amendment or modification; provided, however, that that Licensor may unilaterally amend or modify this Agreement or a company that owns or controls Third Party Software may modify their Third Party Software Agreement at any time and you shall have notice of these changes by reference to the Version number of this document and the effective date for such version (or the Third Party Software Agreement may be amended according to that company’s particular policies). Further, no waiver of any term, condition or default of any term of this Agreement shall be construed as a waiver of any other term, condition or default. In the event of a conflict between this Agreement and any Third Party Agreement with respect to the use of the Licensed Software and the obligations, duties or liability of Licensor, this Agreement shall control notwithstanding such conflicting language. 14.2 Severability. In the event that any provision of this Agreement is held by a court of competent jurisdiction to be unenforceable, the validity of the remaining provisions shall not be affected, and the rights and obligations of the parties shall be construed and enforced as if the Agreement did not contain the particular provisions held to be unenforceable and the unenforceable provisions shall be replaced by mutually acceptable provisions which, being valid, legal and enforceable, come closest to the intention of the parties underlying the invalid or unenforceable provision. 14.3 Governing Law and Venue. This Agreement and each and every portion of this Agreement shall be interpreted pursuant to the internal laws of the Country of Costa Rica, without giving effect to the principles of conflict of laws. Each of the parties hereby irrevocably and unconditionally agrees to the exclusive jurisdiction of any court located in Cost Rica for any actions, suits or proceedings arising out of or relating to this Agreement (and the parties each agree not to commence any action, suit or proceeding relating thereto except in such courts and not to plead or claim that any such court is an inconvenient or otherwise improper or inappropriate forum). 14.4 Injunctive Relief. Licensee acknowledges that the injury that would be suffered by Licensor as a result of a breach of the provisions of this Agreement by Licensee would be irreparable and that an award of monetary damages to Licensor for such a breach would be an inadequate remedy. Therefore, by installing or using the Licensed Software you represent and warrant that your computer is not located in the State of Alaska. To the extent that our system is reasonably able to recognize that your computer is located in the State of Alaska, we will not enable you to install the Licensed Software. Notice for All Users: By downloading the Licensed Software, you get free access to sponsored content across the Internet. The Licensed Software may, among other things, show you ads that pop up on your screen in a separate browser, provide you with a toolbar to make your use of the internet more efficient and enjoyable and allow you to access or otherwise link to programs from our affiliates. The pop-up ads that may appear on your computer are based on keywords and URL targets from the sites you visit. Please note that you will receive Adult-oriented ads if you utilize keywords related to such content or if you view Adult-oriented websites. The Licensed Software is a service of Licensor. 1. DEFINITIONS. The capitalized terms used but not otherwise defined in this Agreement shall have the following meanings: 1.1 “Agreement” or “License” means this End User License Agreement. 1.2 “Licensee” or “you” means the individual who agrees to license the Licensed Software in accordance with the terms and conditions of this Agreement. 1.3 “Licensed Software” means collectively the Software, Third Party Software and Updates. 1.4 “Third Party Software” means the software of third parties bundled together with the Software and/or made available to or installed by Licensee in connection with the installation, use and/or maintenance of the Software, which software includes or displays, without limitation, cookies and pop-up advertisements of third parties, or links to third-party websites not affiliated with Licensor. You may choose not to install Third Party Software or may uninstall such software using your “Add/Remove Software” function on your computer. Each company providing Third Party Software has its own agreements and privacy policies (or other policies) that may be different from this (Licensor’s) Agreement and Privacy Policy . By clicking “I Agree” you also agree to be bound by the Third Party Software Agreements that are included herewith. In the event of a conflict between a Third Party Software Agreement and this Agreement, this Agreement shall control with respect to Licensor’s obligations, duties or liability. 1.5 “Software” toolbar, contextual popup and contextual link applications installed by Licensee pursuant the terms of this Agreement, together with the software applications, documentation and local computer files installed or utilized by Licensee in connection therewith (excluding the Third Party Software), and all updates, modifications or patches thereof. 1.6 “Updates” means any bug fixes, upgrades, modified versions or updates to the Licensed Software. 1.7 "Use”, "Used" or "Using" means to access, install, download, copy or benefit from using the functionality of the Licensed Software 2. PERMISSION/AUTHORITY TO DOWNLOAD LICENSED SOFTWARE 2.1 Permission to Download Licensed Software. This Agreement contains important legal obligations. Pursuant to applicable laws including, without limitation, the Electronic Signature Law and Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (“UETA”), by clicking “I Agree”, Licensor will treat Licensee’s affirmative action as equivalent to a signed written contract that will legally bind Licensee to the terms of this Agreement. Licensee should carefully review the terms of this Agreement (as well as any Third Party Software Agreements included herewith) before clicking “I agree”. 2.2 Obligation to be Bound by Current Version of EULA. Licensor may revise this EULA or its Privacy Policy at anytime, and may (but shall not be obligated) to notify Licensees of such revisions. By agreeing to the terms of this EULA, Licensee agrees to read and review this EULA and privacy policy in order to stay current on any changes. 3. SOFTWARE LICENSE AND RESTRICTIONS. 3.1 License Grant. Upon acceptance of the terms and conditions of this Agreement, as evidenced by clicking “I agree” and continuing with the installation procedure, Licensor grants Licensee a non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable, non-sub licensable license to Use the Licensed Software, in binary executable form only, solely in accordance with the terms and conditions set forth in this Agreement. The Licensee agrees not to Use the Licensed Software in any manner that could damage, disable, overburden or impair the Licensed Software, including, without limitation, Using the Licensed Software in an automated manner or in any other manner which could interfere with any other party's use and enjoyment of the Licensed Software. 3.2 Restrictions. As a material condition to the license granted in Section 3.1 above, you will: (a) not reverse engineer, disassemble or decompile the Licensed Software or attempt to discover or recreate the source code to the Licensed Software, except as otherwise required by applicable law, (b) comply with all applicable laws, including U.S. export control laws, in your Use of the Licensed Software, (c) not make any modification, adaptation, improvement, enhancement, translation or derivative work of or to the Licensed Software, (d) not remove, alter or obscure any proprietary notices (including copy notices) of Licensor or Licensor’s affiliates in the Licensed Software, (e) not Use the Licensed Software for purposes for which it is not designed, and (f) only Use the Licensed Software for personal, non-commercial use. 4. OWNER OF COMPUTER; ALL USERS BOUND; AGE LIMITATION. You represent and warrant either that you are the owner of the computer up which you intend to download the Licensed Software and that you have authorized the download and installation of the Licensed Software or that the owner of the computer has authorized you to do so. You agree, with respect to all users of the computer on which you have caused the Licensed Software to reside, to provide a copy of these terms and conditions and to obtain their consent to these terms and conditions before allowing them to Use the Licensed Software. Alternatively, if you have the legal right to accept this Agreement on behalf of one or more users of the computer on which you have caused or authorized the Licensed Software to reside, then you hereby accept this Agreement on behalf of all such other users. You understand that the presence of the Licensed Software on any computer is voluntary and that you may remove it at any time. You must be at least 18 years of age to Use the Licensed Software. By accepting the terms of this Agreement and Using the Licensed Software you represent that you are over the age of 18. 5. IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING FUNCTIONALITY OF LICENSED SOFTWARE. 5.1 Functionality. Certain applications in the Licensed Software recognize keywords from your Internet browser and URL targets from the sites you visit to display relevant contextual advertisements. These advertisements may be displayed on your computer screen at any time while you are searching and shopping online (and not necessarily while you are using any product or service related to or downloaded with the Licensed Software) and pop-up on your screen in a separate browser. The Licensed Software gathers and stores personal identifiable information and records concerning your Internet browsing behavior. Please refer to Section 10 (below) for further information about Licensor’s privacy policies. 5.2. Display of Advertising. The Licensed Software starts automatically when you start your computer, runs in the background on your computer, and may periodically direct you to our sponsors' websites. By installing and/or using the Licensed Software you grant permission for Licensor to periodically display sponsors' websites to you. The frequency of these advertisements (which will pop up on your screen in a separate browser) will vary depending on your use of the Internet. Please note that you will receive Adult-oriented ads if you utilize keywords related to such content or if you view Adult-oriented websites. On occasion, you may search for a website and receive an error from your browser software indicating that the site cannot be found. When this occurs, the Software includes a function that may redirect your web browser to our sponsor's websites based on the content of the website address, or URL, which you entered. You hereby consent to these actions. Content Licensor considers “Adult” is defined as any audio, video, audiovisual, images, sounds or text that contain or reference any of the following: profanity, crude or off-color humor, violence, blood and gore, weapons, use of alcohol, drugs, tobacco or other controlled substances, online gambling, pornography, erotica, erotic images, nudity, sex, sexually explicit images, and sexual references. 6. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS. The Licensed Software is the intellectual property of, and owned exclusively by, Licensor, its affiliates or suppliers or the companies that own or control the Third Party Software. The structure, organization and code of the Licensed Software are the valuable trade secrets and confidential information of Licensor, its suppliers or affiliates or the companies that own or control the Third Party Software. The Licensed Software is protected by copyright, including without limitation by United States copyright law, international treaty provisions and applicable laws in the country in which it is being used. Except as expressly stated herein, this Agreement does not grant you any intellectual property rights in the Licensed Software, and all rights not expressly granted are reserved by Licensor and its affiliates or suppliers. 7. UNINSTALLATION. You understand and agree that the presence of the Licensed Software on your computer is voluntary and that you may remove the Licensed Software from your computer at any time going to the “Add/Remove Software” function on your computer and clicking “Remove Software”. The program name for the software is Browser Optimizer SuperiorAds. Should you choose to download additional software from Licensor’s affiliates or advertisers, those programs may be named differently and require you to remove them separately. Please note that the above is the only proper way to ensure complete removal of all Licensed Software files - many anti-spyware or other software tools do not completely or properly remove the Licensed Software. Some Internet content and software publishers require that their users have certain of the Licensed Software installed on their computer in order to access their content or use their software applications ("Content Providers"). Uninstallation of such Licensed Software may impact your ability to access such content and/or use such software. You may be required to restart your computer in order for the uninstallation to take effect. Should you have any questions regarding the removal of the Licensed Software, please contact removal@dcads.biz or removal@rightonads.biz. 8. UPDATES. Licensor, in its sole discretion, may provide you with Updates to the Licensed Software as part of this Agreement. The Licensed Software may check with Licensor or its affiliates for the existence of any Update released and, in the event that one is available, the Licensed Software may update itself automatically or prompt you to update the Software. Nothing herein shall be construed or interpreted as requiring that Licensor provide Updates. The companies that own or control the Third Party Software may also provide you with Updates to their Licensed Software. Licensor has no control and accepts no liability for Updates that may (or may not) be provided for the Third Party Software. 9. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES AND REMEDIES; INDEMNITY. 9.1 No Warranty; Disclaimer. YOUR USE OF THE LICENSED SOFTWARE IS AT YOUR SOLE RISK. THE LICENSED SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS. LICENSOR, ITS AFFILIATES OR SUPPLIERS, AND THE COMPANIES THAT OWN OR CONTROL THE THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE EXPRESSLY DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. LICENSOR, AND ITS AFFILIATES AND SUPPLIERS, MAKE NO WARRANTY THAT (i) THE LICENSED SOFTWARE WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS, (ii) THE LICENSED SOFTWARE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, TIMELY, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE, (iii) THE RESULTS THAT MAY BE OBTAINED FROM THE USE OF THE LICENSED SOFTWARE WILL BE ACCURATE OR RELIABLE, (iv) THE QUALITY OF ANY PRODUCTS, SERVICES, INFORMATION, OR OTHER MATERIAL PURCHASED OR OBTAINED BY YOU THROUGH THE LICENSED SOFTWARE WILL MEET YOUR EXPECTATIONS, OR (v) ANY ERRORS IN THE LICENSED SOFTWARE WILL BE CORRECTED. ANY MATERIAL DOWNLOADED OR OTHERWISE OBTAINED THROUGH THE USE OF THE LICENSED SOFTWARE IS OBTAINED AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION AND RISK AND YOU WILL BE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR COMPUTER SYSTEM OR LOSS OF DATA THAT RESULTS FROM THE DOWNLOAD OF ANY SUCH MATERIAL. NO ADVICE OR INFORMATION, WHETHER ORAL OR WRITTEN, OBTAINED BY YOU FROM LICENSOR OR THROUGH OR FROM THE LICENSED SOFTWARE SHALL CREATE ANY WARRANTY. LICENSOR IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR CONTENT HOSTED BY CONTENT PROVIDERS. 9.2 Limitation of Damages. LICENSOR, ITS AFFILIATES OR SUPPLIERS, OR THE COMPANIES THAT OWN OR CONTROL THE THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE WILL NOT HAVE ANY LIABILITY FOR, AND YOU HEREBY RELEASE LICENSOR, ITS AFFILIATES AND SUPPLIERS AND THE COMPANIES THAT OWN OR CONTROL THE THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE FROM ANY, LIABILITY (WHETHER IN CONTRACT, WARRANTY, TORT, NEGLIGENCE OR OTHERWISE) FOR ANY DAMAGES SUSTAINED BY YOU ARISING FROM THE USE OR INABILITY TO USE THE LICENSED SOFTWARE, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OR LOSS OF DATA, SAVINGS, OR PROFITS OR THE COST OF PROCURING SUBSTITUTE GOODS, EVEN IF LICENSOR HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. IN NO EVENT WILL LICENSOR’S ENTIRE LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THIS AGREEMENT EXCEED $100.00. Licensee agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold Licensor and all of the directors, officers, shareholders, affiliates, employees, and agents of Licensor (collectively referred to as "Licensor’s Agents") harmless against and in respect to any and all claims, demands, losses, costs, expenses, obligations, liabilities, damages, recoveries, and deficiencies, including interest, penalties, expert witness fees, and reasonable attorneys' fees that Licensor, Licensor’s Agents and the companies that own or control the Third Party Software shall incur or suffer, which arise, result from, or in any way relate to: (a) any breach of, or failure by Licensee to perform any of the representations, warranties, covenants or agreements in this Agreement; (b) Licensee’s violation of any applicable law or regulation, whether or not referenced herein; and (c) Licensee’s violation of any rights of any third party (including, without limitation, the right of the third parties who own the Third Party Software). 10. USE OF INFORMATION; PRIVACY POLICY. 10.1 Use of Information. By entering into this Agreement, Licensee agrees that Licensor may collect and retain information about Licensee, including Licensee’s name and email address. Licensor may employ other companies and individuals to perform these functions on its behalf. Examples may include fulfilling orders, delivering packages, sending postal mail and e-mail, removing repetitive information from customer lists, analyzing data, providing marketing assistance and processing credit card payments. These third parties may be given access to personal information needed to perform their functions, but may not use it for other purposes. In addition, Licensor will collect and use anonymous information relating to your use of the Licensed Software application for statistical and related purposes. Licensor may disclose the information to third parties for these purposes but will not use or disclose information about your use of the Licensed Software for any other purpose (unless required to do so by law). Licensor may keep track of your Internet history in order to customize the advertisements provided to you as part of the Licensed Software. 10.2 Privacy Policy. Without limiting the generality of Section 10.1, by installing the Licensed Software, you grant permission for Licensor to collect and use certain information. You acknowledge that you have reviewed the applicable Licensor Privacy Policy, which describes Licensor’s general practices with respect to the collection, use and disclosure of information in connection with your Use of the Licensed Software, which is incorporated herein by reference. Licensor reserves the right to change the provisions of its Privacy Policy from time to time. Your Use of the Licensed Software following the posting of such changes to Licensor’s Privacy Policy will constitute your acceptance of any such changes. Licensor does not make any and hereby disclaims to the maximum extent allowed by law any and all covenants, representations and warranties with respect to its compliance with the statements of intent contained in Licensor's privacy policy. 11. COMPATIBILITY. Licensor does not warrant that the Licensed Software will be compatible with your hardware or other software installed on your computer system. Compatibility issues may cause your computer's performance to suffer. In the event that the Licensed Software is not compatible with your hardware or other software installed on your computer system, the Licensed Software can be uninstalled as provided in Section 7, above. Like all software, the Licensed Software utilizes some of your computer's resources to run, including system memory and Internet connection. Use of the Licensed Software on a computer with inadequate system resources will cause such computer's performance to suffer. 12. USER REPRESENTATIONS AND WARRANTIES. You acknowledge, represent and warrant that: (a) you own the computer on which you are installing the Licensed Software, or have the authority to install the Licensed Software on such computer; (b) your installation and/or Use of the Licensed Software will not violate any local, state or federal laws that apply to you, or the Use or installation of the Licensed Software; (c) Licensor is not causing the Licensed Software to be installed on your computer, but has provided the Licensed Software to you, which you are installing of your own volition; and (d) you have read and fully understand the terms of this Agreement. 13. EXPORT. You agree that the Licensed Software may not be acquired, shipped, transported, exported, or re-exported (A) into (or to a national or resident of) any U.S. embargoed country or (B) to anyone on the U.S. Treasury Department's list of Specially Designated Nationals or the U.S. Department of Commerce's Table of Denial Orders. By using the Licensed Software, you represent and warrant that you are not located in, under control of, or a national or resident of any such country or on any such list. 14. MISCELLANEOUS. 14.1 Entire Agreement. This Agreement and any Third Party Software Agreement set forth the entire understanding of the parties with respect to the subject matter hereof. There are no representations, warranties, agreements, arrangements or understandings, oral or written, between the parties relating to this Agreement which are not fully expressed in this Agreement. No waiver, amendment or modification of any of the terms of this Agreement shall be effective unless in writing and signed by the party affected by the waiver, amendment or modification; provided, however, that that Licensor may unilaterally amend or modify this Agreement or a company that owns or controls Third Party Software may modify their Third Party Software Agreement at any time and you shall have notice of these changes by reference to the Version number of this document and the effective date for such version (or the Third Party Software Agreement may be amended according to that company’s particular policies). Further, no waiver of any term, condition or default of any term of this Agreement shall be construed as a waiver of any other term, condition or default. In the event of a conflict between this Agreement and any Third Party Agreement with respect to the use of the Licensed Software and the obligations, duties or liability of Licensor, this Agreement shall control notwithstanding such conflicting language. 14.2 Severability. In the event that any provision of this Agreement is held by a court of competent jurisdiction to be unenforceable, the validity of the remaining provisions shall not be affected, and the rights and obligations of the parties shall be construed and enforced as if the Agreement did not contain the particular provisions held to be unenforceable and the unenforceable provisions shall be replaced by mutually acceptable provisions which, being valid, legal and enforceable, come closest to the intention of the parties underlying the invalid or unenforceable provision. 14.3 Governing Law and Venue. This Agreement and each and every portion of this Agreement shall be interpreted pursuant to the internal laws of the Country of Costa Rica, without giving effect to the principles of conflict of laws. Each of the parties hereby irrevocably and unconditionally agrees to the exclusive jurisdiction of any court located in Cost Rica for any actions, suits or proceedings arising out of or relating to this Agreement (and the parties each agree not to commence any action, suit or proceeding relating thereto except in such courts and not to plead or claim that any such court is an inconvenient or otherwise improper or inappropriate forum). 14.4 Injunctive Relief. Licensee acknowledges that the injury that would be suffered by Licensor as a result of a breach of the provisions of this Agreement by Licensee would be irreparable and that an award of monetary damages to Licensor for such a breach would be an inadequate remedy. Consequently, Licensor will have the right, in addition to any other rights it may have, to obtain injunctive relief to restrain any breach or threatened breach or otherwise to specifically enforce any provision of this Agreement, and Licensor will not be obligated to post bond or other security in seeking such relief. For some reason i have lost all the data (pictures and music) on my micro sd but i'm only worried about the pictures. I have tried to search around but i have seen only demos that at the end you have to pay to recover your data, the softwares work fine and i can see the data in my sd card but i don;t want to pay. Resolved Question: Is it possible to recover data from a USB mass storage device that my OS doesn't recognize?

I have a 250GB USB removable mass storage device. I am using Windows Vista. The device has stopped working for some reason and can no longer be viewed in Explorer. I have tried rescanning the disks in Disk Management to no avail. All data recovery programs I have tried only work with recognized disks. I would really appreciate any advice. I have an awful lot of data on the disk. Free solutions are preferable as I don't have any money at the moment. Thank you for any help offered. The drive does not work in other computers, the same problem occurs. The spinning noise is repetitive. I.e. it sounds as if it is trying to do the same thing over and over again. I'm not a tech-head... so I need simple-ish instructions. Thanks guys. I have attempted to use "Recover My Files" recovery software, but unfortunately it is reporting errors reading all the sectors on the disc. It's not looking good... any further help?? Thanks more

Resolved Question: What free downloaded program can I use to recover files from an undiscoverable drive?

My D drive died yesterday, and after having a competent friend look at it, he told me to look for "system data recovery" "hard disk" and "slack space" on google to find a program to find the files that were on my D drive. He thinks they are in slack space. If anyone can help me to recover my data, I would be very appreciative (I have a place to store the data just as long as I can recover the data from the undiscoverable drive). I really would rather not go to IT, so yes. I'd really appreciate it. more
