Write a nature/origin myth. The Writing Assignment Read the instructions below for writing a nature myth. Please copiously follow the instructions. You will submit the brainstorming section, a rough draft of your nature myth, and the final copy of the nature myth in lesson 4. First Step The first step to writing a nature myth is creating your own god or goddess. Do not use deities from Classical or any other mythology. Your god/goddess will be the primary character in your myth. You will decide if he/she is the protagonist or antagonist. You will need to have considered the following questions in order to get your ideas gathered on paper. What is the name of my god? What is his or her domain? What is his or her symbol? List the special powers and abilities possessed by the god. Remember that the god you create needs to be entirely your own. You have the perfect opportunity to be extremely creative. Second Step Once you have invented a god, you need to think about what aspect of nature your myth is to explain. You will use the information you developed in step 1 to help you with writing the myth. For example, if your god has the domain of color, then some aspect of color must be a significant part of your myth. You need to refer to your god's name, domain, symbol(s), and specific powers in your story. The subject of your nature myth can explain anything. You may choose to explain aspects of physical nature or human nature. You must connect the subject of your myth to your imaginary deity (the god or goddess you created). You may select from the list below or choose a topic of your own. how clouds are created why grass is green why we have rainbows why we have mountains why we have oceans why we have morning dew the creation of icebergs why evergreens are always green why geese migrate in a "V" pattern jealousy snow earthquakes Note: The choice is up to you; you do not need to select from the list above. Third Step Before you begin brainstorming and getting your ideas on paper, it is important to consider the following questions. A myth usually answers several of the following questions about a natural phenomenon. You need to make sure that your myth does as well. What is the natural phenomenon? How was this phenomenon created? Why was this phenomenon created? Who (gods, goddesses, mortals) was involved in creating this phenomenon? When does the myth occur? Where does the myth occur? Fourth Step Once you have responded to the questions above, both in step 1 and step 3, you are ready to begin the written portion of your story. Writers always begin with "rough ideas." The first written work you have of your myth should not be your last. Writing is a work in progress. You must brainstorm first, using the questions above as a catalyst to assist you with developing a plot that is strong—one that contains an exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and conclusion. When I give a written assignment in high school, my students always ask me, "How long should this be, Crampton?" I always respond with, "I don't exactly know." That is a truthful answer. I do know, however, that for a story to be strong, to contain all of the features listed above (exposition, rising action, etc.), and to possess a strong sense of voice, it will be longer than two pages. Use your imagination and creativity, be insightful and ingenious because this is your creation and with that knowledge comes ownership and pride. Impress me; I love to be impressed, and I have no doubt that you can be successful with this assignment. Your myth needs to contain dialogue between your characters. Basically, they need to communicate. When characters speak to each other, the reader gains a greater sense of who they are and much more about the author. Your myth can open in many different ways, but try to capture the reader's interest with the opening sentence. For example, "Once, Hecco, Goddess of light, was resting by a river, saddened by the loss of her only daughter." The reader wants to know what has happened to the daughter? Was she killed? Stolen? What? Your myth must be typed and double spaced, using 12-point print, Times New Roman font. You must also have a brainstorming page, where you have responded to the questions asked in step 1 and step 3, along with enlisting your own ideas into your brainstorming. Please have a rough draft that someone has corrected. Corrected means someone has thoroughly read it and made comments regarding your usage, spelling, plot, what the person did and did not understand, etc. This individual is your editor, so to speak. The rough draft may be handwritten if you choose to do so. The final copy must be typed. Happy creating (no pun intended)! I will look forward to reading your nature myth. moreResolved Question: Are stories posted to forums or blogs public domain? Can I publish those stories in a book?

And are we just repeating its mistakes? http://www.heretical.com/wilson/rkibbutz.html Interesting quote: "Attempts to achieve sexual equality are not unique to present-day Anglo-American society. A brave and fascinating experiment in women's liberation was conducted by the Israelis when they set up their rural communes, the kibbutzim, during the colonization of Palestine in the early part of this century. A central part of their semi-Marxist ideology was the total emancipation of women from all inequalities (sexual, social, economic and intellectual) that had been imposed upon them by traditional society. According to Israeli Utopian theory, the burden of child-rearing and home-making was the root cause of sex-role differentiation and female inequality. Therefore radical changes in family structure were instituted. Traditional marriage was replaced by a system of cohabitation in which a man and woman were assigned shared sleeping accommodation within the commune but retained their separate names and identities. The children were removed from special contact with their parents and reared with others of the same age in community-run nurseries where they played, ate, slept and were educated. Adults were supposed to think of all the kibbutz children as joint social property and were discouraged from developing particularly close relationships with their own offspring. Thus freed from the 'domestic yoke', women were expected to engage in agricultural and productive work to the same extent as men, and men were likewise expected to share in traditional female work. Classically feminine clothes, cosmetics, jewellery and hair-styles were rejected. In order to be equals of men, it was thought women would have to look like men as well as share traditionally male roles. When anthropologists Melford and Audrey Spiro examined the achievements of the kibbutzim in 1950, the experiment appeared to have been largely successful and their preconception of human nature as 'culturally relative' was held to be confirmed. However, in 1975 Melford Spiro returned to the kibbutz for a follow-up study and was surprised to discover that in the intervening quarter-century striking changes had occurred in the domain of marriage, family and sex-roles which 'all but undid the earlier revolution' (Spiro, 1979). The younger generation of women, although raised with unisex models (women driving tractors and men in domestic service occupations) and taught from early childhood that men and women are the same in nature, were now pressing to be allowed fulfilment in the role of mother. 'Women's rights' had taken on almost exactly the reverse meaning to that in our society. The kibbutz government had become predominantly male, apparently because the women showed little interest in politics, and a traditional division of labour along sexual lines had become established. Men were doing most of the productive work, while women were doing mostly community and service work such as teaching, nursing and housekeeping. Marriage had reverted to its original form, with a full wedding ceremony and celebration, and public displays of attachment and 'ownership'. previously almost taboo, were now commonplace. The units of residence had changed from the group to the married couple, and couples were now claiming and gaining the 'right' to enjoy the company of their own children. Children slept with their own parents and spent a great deal more time with them. Women had also shown a return to traditional 'femininity' in terms of appearance, temperament (empathy and lack of assertiveness) and hobbies. 'In the one place where feminists thought their ideal existed, the feminine mystique is ripening as fast as the corn in the fields' (New York Times, April 1976).""feminism is just another social experiment like communism i.e. a nice Utopian idea, but always going to fail because it gets hijacked by corrupt leaders but supported by enough fear and ignorance to prolong the agony of its existence." Spot on Doodlebug. Feminism is doomed to fail because, like communism, it is based on a false premise: that everybody is exactly equal. Communists thought that one person accumulating more wealth than another was inherently wrong. Feminists think that traditonal gender roles are wrong even though they have worked for millenia and are completely natural. Communists were so convinced of their correctness that they were prepared to sacrifice millions of people to achieve their socialist utopia. But you gotta break some eggs to make an ommelette, right sisters? moreResolved Question: How to transfer domain name ownership to someone else?

Hi there, Would you mind clarifying a little confusion about domain ownership? I'm set to purchase a .ca domain name but this ownership issue has got me fretting. What I learned at school was that there are four names attached to a domain name. I remember them to be "owner", "administrative contact", "technical contact", and "billing contact". I was told that the name attached to "owner" is the most important and that some companies will enter their name as "owner" and your name as the other three contacts, so this is the kind of company we had to stay away from. Today, I chatted with a representative from Netfirms.ca who answered my question regarding the owner by saying that "Whoever pays for the domain will be the owner." The answer seems kind of vague and sketchy to me. He also stated that they would be the "Technical Contact" instead of me. Is this alright? When I look up domain names on www.whois.net, I only see "Registrar", "Registrant", "Administrative" and "Technical". My understanding is that "Registrar" is the compay through whom you purchase the domain name, such as Netfirms.ca or 10dollars.ca. But how about "Registrant"? Is that what is meant as "Owner"? And will they enter my name and email as the "owner"/"registrant" or will they write theirs? Can you please clarify this for me??? I was recently contacted by my former employer, let's call them ABC Publishing. They demanded that I give them control of a website that I bought last year which is similar to their name, let's call it abcpub.com (note that it says "pub" and not "publishing". The site has nothing on it except for a typical general homepage for a parked website, and nothing on it indicates that it is in any way connected to ABC Publishing. Here's the catch: When I bought the domain last year, I was still working for this company. We live in a rural area, and the company had no website or email. I offered to let them use the domain for email purposes, and the company then bought an email and webspace hosting plan thru Yahoo Small Business, which they still use today even though I haven't been there. I had been content to let them keep using it, and was even preparing to hand them over control of the actual domain as a nice guy. UNTIL I heard that my former boss was shit talking, and then a couple days ago received a very nasty and demanding email from their independent contractor webmaster, whom I've never met. So anyways, that really pissed me off, and I told them that I would sell it to them for $450. They are now threatening to sue me because they claim that their ficticious business name state, which is filed with the County Clerk's office, entitles them to all uses of the name ABC Publishing. 1) My domain isn't "abcpublishing.com", rather it's "abcpub.com" 2) Because I've let them use it for their email, does that give them a legal claim? 3) What the hell do I do? They say that they've contacted the registrar that I bought it from (Verio) and they are in the process of "fixing" the situation. What are they fixing??? I own it!! Right?? PS I got nervous that my ownership of it would lapse, so for shits and giggles I renewed my ownership another year instead of waiting until it auto-renewed later this month.EDIT: Great answers so far, but to clarify some things: YES, I did register the domain in my name and used my credit card to pay for it. However, the company used a company credit card to pay Yahoo Small Business for the email hosting plan. moreResolved Question: How do I upload an HTML file to my website's root directory?
My website is run through 1&1.com and I need to set up google apps. So google is telling me I need to verify my domain ownership by uploading an HTML file named googlehostedservices. So I logged into 1&1, went to webfile, and uploaded the HTML file I created to what I assumed was the root directory. I typed in my domain/"".html and it pulled up nothing. HELP PLEASE moreResolved Question: If a domain is registered for 10 bucks a year, how can u buy it forever?
I was told a use of a domain name is the fee when registering. Does this mean someone can buy the rights to my domain address at anytime or after I finish my year subscription. I've read about ICANN and the dot com craze, but while building my websites, I worry about the true ownership and rights of this name. Can some webmasters or similar help me out... Thanx moreResolved Question: Question about domain ownership.?
Foreverfastlane.com is my website. The domain name was purchased through yahoo. The site is hosted by babyhosting.com I'm very angry with Yahoo right now, because they will not reverse a charge on a feature I did not want (OR EVER use.) I also found they marked up my domain price to $34 a year!!! They then tried to make it better by giving me the going rate of $9.95!! I'm sick of dealing with them, and wouldn't mind going with godaddy, because they are having a "domain transfer" sale, for 6.99 I'm just afraid it's going to mess with the website, because I don't know the technicalities of the transference. Please advise! moreTop Domain Name Ownership Links
