Resolved Question: Changing "Locked" status to "Unlocked" status for Domain transfer.?

My question is regarding an issue that I'm currently having with my domain registry service. Their site contains no log in, only a contact email and phone number. As my registration is ready to be renewed, I am switching registry services, as I don't find this company to be very accommodating of my needs. I was able to email them and obtained the necessary authorization code for transfer immediately. However, upon realizing that the status of the domain was "Locked", I sent a second email requesting that it be unlocked. I have had no response. I have attempted to call, but they refuse to answer and simply ask that I leave a message with my number and that they will call me back, which they have also failed to do. I worry that they are attempting to ignore my request and allow the registration to expire, and essentially steal my domain (which is illegal, I believe?). I wanted to make certain that I was using all of the proper channels to request that it be unlocked, though, before I go jumping to conclusions. Is there more to getting a domain unlocked for transfer than a simple request to the current register service? Is there a particular wait time, or is it something that they should be able to do immediately? Any advice, as I am extremely worried.Thank you for the helpful answer, Stephen! With your help, I was confident enough to send another (carefully worded) email, which was responded to within the hour, and have them unlock my Domain! I am so relieved ^_^ Thank you so much for your assistance and input. more

Voting Question: Get rid of IT company and do it myself?

I was recently hired by a small company as a webdesigner/webdeveloper and general tech guy. My boss and coworkers don't know anything about computers so I'm pretty much the go-to guy for anything tech related. My boss is very displeased with our current IT company that takes care of our local network and website. The IT company has terrible service, they take forever to respond and charge huge fees. Since I'm the only person in our small company (15 employees) with computer knowledge (although limited networking experience), my boss wants me to find out how to get rid of the IT company and wants me to take care of the network/server in-house instead of paying the IT company lots of money for bad customer service. I did some research and found out that we're running Windows Small Business Server 2003 and use Exchange Server 2003 for email. The IT company is the registrar of our website domain name and they host the website files on their server (we pay them for hosting). They also do all the local network maintenance (I don't have the login info for the computer that runs the server). This is my plan of action so far: 1. Get the IT company to transfer our website domain name registration to us, and then I want to get a hosting plan somewhere else instead of the IT company's overly expensive plan. 2. Get the IT company to give me the login details for the Small Business Server so I can do the network maintenance myself. My main question is: How is our Exchange Server 2003 email system connected to our website domain? When the IT company transfers 'ourdomain.com' to us and I change the hosting location, does this affect our email system in any way? In other words, how can I transfer the website domain ownership and change the hosting location without affecting our email system. The IT company registered our domain with 1&1 and do the hosting on their own server. Any advise would be highly appreciated. Thanks. more

Resolved Question: can i transfer a domain name after it has been renewed?

I know after you register a domain name you have to wait 60 days before you can transfer it, but what about transferring after it has been renewed? I am trying to transfer my domain from a company I am unhappy with. I told them I wanted to transfer it and asked for them to unlock it and send me the auth code. Instead they just renewed the registration for another year. does this mean I have to wait 60 days before I can try to transfer it? more

Resolved Question: I bought a domain name and am kind of lost on hosting. I would really like to find free redirection?

I have a domain name registered with Google (gdomains through godaddy). I really love having everything handled through Google. I love the email, I'm used to the platform for my DNS settings, I like their file hosting, I have advertising credit, the registration price is perfect and includes 50 usernames and 90 CNAMES. The only thing is I really really don't like the Google Sites hosting platform. I know this isn't ideal but I'm really not ready to do a full transfer to a new host. Basically I just want something that will allow me to redirect my already registered domain name to a basic webpage that I can create through the host site. I have my own layout coded and everything and had my site up on Blogger, which was pretty close to how I want it in terms of features but it wasn't giving me the freedom I wanted to add extra pages and things like that. To water it down my site is basically a "blog" but I need 5 separately archived pages so you can see how that would be a problem with something like Blogger. Especially with my CNAMES because blog sites don't allow naked URLs. I use Webs for free hosting on smaller projects but I'm not sure if I trust them with my domain, plus I can't afford a premium package right now. I don't need the extra storage space or any of the other perks of a package deal right away, I know if I start getting traffic I will need to upgrade but I already have more than enough assets through Google to get started. If anyone has any suggestions or tips or even just hosting sites they would recommend that would be really helpful.@ledfrog.com- Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what I want to do, I just need to find a host that lets me do that. I think my biggest issue right now is just the fact that most of the host sites I'm finding make me pay monthly for so many things that I'm already getting through Google for only $10 a year (like a domain name, subdomains, POP/IMAP email, image hosting, etc) and I don't want to pay for all of it. I just want a place I can get my html up and start posting. more

Voting Question: How can i forward my office live domain to another domain?

Hi guys, a few years ago i registered with office live and they asked me what domain i wanted etc..... i chose a .com domain name if someone enters that url they get the crappy office live basic website i did in 2 mins when i registered. I have now had a site developed and is at the same address but the .co.uk (i.e. mycompanyname.com is on office live and mycompanyname.co.uk has a good site uploaded) i currently use office live for my email me@mycompanyname.com and access it just by signing into hotmail. I have alot of emails in there that are important and need to keep so i can't transfer my.com to a new host without loosing my email account (i think) So i would like to keep my office live account as it is but need the .com url to forward to my .co.uk url Please help! So far the only thing i have found is a code to enter into the search engine optimization tab of office live that lets people see the .com for 5 seconds and then changes to the .co.uk I need it to forward instantly just like it would if you forwarded a domain with your host / registration provider. Please help@ b - the address is not important. i do not use a co.uk email address, i use the .com address that is why i would like the good website viewable when people enter the .com address. The website was designed for the .com domain but it is just impossible to upload it to an office live server. My initial question is correct.@mike - i asked HOW to do it with a domain that is registered through office live. I am aware of what i would be able to do if i was able to point the nameservers at my hosting account. i would like to know how it is done. more

Resolved Question: Stolen / hijacked domain name at godaddy.com?

I purchased a domain name that I have had for years (Created on: 31-Jul-95). I have had the domain registered for years with godaddy and I keep the registration at 10 years out which is the maximum allowed by domain registration companies. In fact when the registration went down to 9 years in the past I would immediately pay for the registration to go back up to 10 years (maximum). I did this for security reason because if the domain name is at the maximum registration years it is impossible to move it outside of registrar (godaddy). On July 31, 2009 my domain name went down to 9 years registration, so the next day August 1, 2009 I paid for another year pushing the registration back to 10 years. On November 3, 2009 I typed in my website domain name and its down. So I log into my godaddy account and my domain name is not listed in my account. I contact godaddy and they inform me that someone pressed the cancel button on the domain name, so they took it and resold my domain that I had paid for 10 years out. I never pressed the cancel button don’t even know where that is and not sure why any registration would have that button on an account. Godaddy is informing that they can’t do anything for me. Even though the new godaddy registrant never purchased any years on the domain, nor was it acquired via expiration, and the domain name was never transferred to him by me. And I’m even out the money on the prepaid 10 years registration. Any suggestion or help would be appreciated by me. more

Resolved Question: Who knew that barrera-autosales.com, autoaven, com and stars-auto.com are the same scamers?

Look at barrera-autosales.com, autoaven, com and stars-auto.com they have made some changes to the web page but it is still a scam site quote Denver News BBB Flooded With Complaints On 2 Auto Auction Sites Stars-Automart, Autoaven Sent Cease And Desist Letters POSTED: 12:41 pm MDT August 11, 2009 DENVER -- The Denver office of the Better Business Bureau said its telephone helpline has been jammed with calls from people across the country who are asking about two auto sales Web sites that claim to be headquartered in Denver. According to the BBB, calls have been nonstop and the BBB has sent a "cease and desist" notice regarding trademark infringement to the company because of a fake BBB report the sites link to that falsely shows the company with an A+ rating. The two Web sites list one physical address as 10701 W. Sixth Ave, but that address actually belongs to BBB Accredited business, Automotive Avenues, Inc. Another link goes to 3925 Monaco Parkway, which actually belongs to Cintas Document Management -- a paper shredding company. The two Web sites, www.stars-automart.com and www.autoaven.com, claim to offer sales of repossessed vehicles. The BBB said customers complain that once a majority payment is sent via MoneyGram to a Denver address, the company ceases communication. The company has not responded to the BBB. An Internet check shows the two domain names are registered to a private registration company in Sunnyvale, Calif. The BBB said it sent out the warning because on-delivery and Internet auction fraud were the top two complained-about fraud types at the Internet Crime Complaint Center. The phone number listed on the site goes to a recording, which suggests callers contact them by e-mail. The same section of the stars-automart.com Web site lists a James Stewart as the owner. To protect from online scams, the BBB has the following suggestions: • Verify any organization credentials with the organization directly, (BBB, AutoTrader, Consumer Reports logos, etc.) • Check the company’s BBB report at www.denver.bbb.org or by calling 303-758-2100. Only do business online with websites you are familiar with and that have a positive track record. • Make sure the website has a privacy policy. It will contain agreements on how the information you provide on the website will be used and kept private and secure. Print this and keep it in your records. • The privacy policy may also contain the company’s mailing address. Only do business with companies that provide a sure method of contact, should something go wrong. • Do not wire transfer any payment. Wired funds cannot be traced and therefore cannot be recovered if you are a victim of fraud. • If you have become a victim of fraud, contact your BBB and the Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov to file a complaint. Please dont fall for this and report them to law enforcement hopefully yahoo will prevent all the pro scammers from entering data on this site.I am only trying to warn people that the scammers come on yahoo and say that they are a good company when they are a scam. If you feel that this is wrong to post this information please send me an emailN I am one of those idiots who fell for the scam. Then the scammers come on YA and tell what a good deal it is. Resolved Question: Domain transfer problem from network solutions to godaddy - 1 year missing?

Here's the message and reply I got back from godaddy. They're saying network solutions didn't transfer the year I'd paid for through them. Is that even possible? Shouldn't I get the money back from ICANN? I mean it's been paid for, so what happened to the money? The thing that really gets me is I didn't even get the domain until mid-Jan as it was an auction. Dear Godaddy, I paid for a transfer (1 year free + 4 year extension) from Network Solutions to Godaddy. The original expiry date was nn-dec-2009, and it is now showing nn-dec-2013. This is only 4 years extension, not 5. Am I missing something? Does the free year only come into action after the 4 years? Thanks When your domain transferred to Go Daddy a year of registration was added to it as promised. Unfortunately your former registrar did not transfer the additional time you had paid for through them. Regrettably this issue is beyond Go Daddy's control. You may wish to contact your former Registrar to discuss the lost registration time and for clarification on the matter. Please let us know if we can help you in any other way. Resolved Question: English natives! Does this texts need to be edited before publishing online? Thanks in advance?

Hi all, I want to set these texts as the title and description of my website pages for search engines. I don’t want to change them if they don’t include any grammatical errors. The keywords which are used are very very important to me, because people use them for finding the websites like mine. So I more prefer not to change them. I know using some of them is not correct from view point of “technical phrases”, such as “domain name generator”. But I want to use them because some beginners use them on the web. Just if there are any unusual sentences which seem wrong help me modify. Please take into consideration I have limitation in using the number of words! So don’t try to tell a story! Hope my text doesn’t need any major changes. Resolved Question: Question on: Domain Registration, Web Hosting, Redirecting Webpages, Domain Contracts, and More!?

Okay, this is a little long so bare with me. First of all I'm 15 and I thought it would be a good time register a few "MyName" domains because I'm going to be a successful entrepreneur [don't think I'm obnoxious, I'm just optimistic =D ] and the last thing I want is somebody impersonating me with MyName.com and to not be willing to sell the domain! And since the internet if of growing use, everybody should probably have a domain in their name. Anyhow, I just contacted the owner of MySurname.com and they said they wouldn't be prepared to sell, because they want to give it to their children or something. Which was kind of a b*tch because I was hoping for an Email address such as - "MyFisrtName@MySurname.com" But hey, I guess you can't have it all. And maybe I'll get it one day anyhow. But as odd as it may seem, I'd rather have MyFullName.com instead of just MySurname.com because it would be harder for people to find me! And it may look less formal. So now, there are a few things I wish to know. 1. What is the best/least expensive domain registration provider out there? Is there any sort of a comparison site or anything? I'm hoping to buy maybe 10 - 20 domain names. [MyName.com, MyName.net, MyName.info, etc.] So if the site has something for bulk registration discounts it would be good. 2. If I want to receive Emails at one of the domains - E.g. Darren@MyDomain.com - do I still have to pay for web hosting if I don't actually want a website, just to receive Emails? 3. If I DO have to pay for just receiving Emails on it, but not having a website; If I use Windows Live Admin Center to receive Emails from it do I still have to pay for web hosting? I use a lot of Windows Live Services on a daily basis. [Hotmail, MSN Messenger, Windows Live Mail] so I would like to use Admin Center anyway because I love all of Windows Live's features. 4. I'm not sure about redirecting webpages or anything but I've read it has something to do with the DNS Control Panel. So the question is: If I want to have all-but-one of the domains to redirect to the main webpage; do I have to pay for web-hosting on all of them to access the DNS Control Panel on all of them? Or can you make webpages redirect without having to pay for web-hosting on them? As in, does the DNS Control Panel come free with the domain? 5. When you register a domain with the "1 Year" thing written under it, is that a binding contract? For example, if you sign up for a 1 Year Domain package with provider X, can you transfer the domains to provider Y after a few months if they have a better price plan? Or must you stay with the first one for the full year? 6. If you are reading your Emails through Windows Live Admin Center does the Junk Mail filter still filter your mail for you or must you use a third party program? I can’t see why I wouldn’t; I just thought I’d throw that in. 7. Are there any countries that won’t let you use their domain extension unless you are a citizen? 8. Can you redirect any domain you own to any webpage? 9. So far I haven‘t found a domain registration provider that you can register ANY extension with, is there such a thing? I want to register some very uncommon extensions. That’s about all I can think of right now. I’m not actually expecting anybody to be able to answer ALL the questions, but if you can answer as many as possible and if possible PLEASE number your answers to my questions. Thanks a lot! =D more

Resolved Question: How can I get Yahoo to release a domain from a canceled account?

Yahoo canceled my account some time ago. As per their terms of service, I was given no warning prior to this occurring. However, they continued to charge me after my account was closed. Any inquiry to anything at all about my prior account has been answered with a form email (though a different name has been at the bottom each time). As per the terms of service, Yahoo reserves the right to transfer domains to itself in the event of a canceled account, yet they have not done so at this point. If they're going to transfer rights to Yahoo, that's fine, but sitting on it while it's still registered to me, while giving absolutely no answers to any questions, is nothing short of domain theft in my opinion. All I want is to be done with Yahoo, their nonexistent customer service, and their "we cancel accounts just because, and continue to charge you for it" business practices. Can anyone offer a suggestion (besides wait for the registration to expire)? more

Resolved Question: Transfering a domain name within 60 days of registration?

Resolved Question: Paid for "more data transfer usage" and my site got shut down instantly.?

My page was originally www.geocities.com/dinotheorist/ years ago. I thought I bought the domain name "dinotheorist.com" through Yahoo fewer years ago, so I am confused as to why when I purchased a "web hosting" package wich allowed for more data transfer usage, then my dinotheorist.com was replaced with an "under construction" placeholder page. I clicked on the button "are you the owner of this domain?" and the instuctions said to go into file manager and rename my main page to "index.html" But that was not the problem; my "main page" has always been named "index.html. Under pagebuilder which I have always used, that is required. The other possibility I thought of is that Yahoo is somehow not the registrar of my domain name, and I am aware of attempted "slamming" practices by companies basically impersonating yahoo and trying to take over people's domain name registrations. I followed geocities' prompts to see who the registrar of my domain is, but that lookup page had no instrucs. more

Resolved Question: I've been looking to use Streamline.net as my web hosting server.?

The cheapest version is about £13.99 a year. You get a free Domain Name Registration, free Domain Name Transfer, £25 free Google ADWords Voucher (what does this mean?) and there is no set up fee. It doesn't say anything about bandwidth or space. Could anybody have a look at it and tell me whether it's worth the price and give me a detailed description (in English!!!) of what I get? I'm very new to all of this and don't really know what I'm supposed to be looking for. Also, do I really need Password Protection (£15 extra a year) or any of the other extra features? I would appreciate any help. more
