Open Question: I fired my web designer but she wants paid for renewing my domain name early. What's your opinion?

I found out a while back my web designer had my domain name registered under her name. From everything I've heard that is unethical. Also, I was always very confused about her billing and kept asking why I was being charged so much more than expected. She actually responded by telling me off in email. At one point she mentioned being "stuck" with her. I've wanted out of this relationship for years. At the end of February she informed me my domain name was scheduled to renew March 3rd. I wrote back that I "needed to ask her some questions and would contact her soon". On the renewal due date, I decided not to renew and informed her such, and that I didn't want her to continue hosting for me. I stated I would send her my final hosting payment. She wrote back instructing me to add another $20 for the domain renewal since she "had already done that on my behalf". So basically she renewed it early without my permission. I asked if it was in my name, and she said she would transfer it for me if I have another designer in the future. I replied that I would pay for the domain renewal if there weren't going to be additional "transfer fees", and I wanted to finalize our business now. She replied that she would transfer it AFTER I paid. I asked a second time if she planned any fees for transferring, and how long a transfer would take. She hasn't responded. I feel like these are reasonable questions that deserve an answer? Should I go ahead and pay her for renewing early and trust her to transfer it, or just go with a new domain name and forget it? more

I recently registered a domain and have set up a mailbox on the domain as well as a website. I chose to redirect emails sent to my user on the domain to my Gmail account. So now when people sned an Email to my user and my domain it shows up in my gmail mailbox. My problem now is that when I reply to emails sent to me it shows my Gmail account rather than my username at the domain I registered. How do I send emails that look like they came from my user on my domain? I use thunderbird if it means anything, is there any way to configure thunderbird to show a fake email address on sent mail? Hi, Recently I have registered the domain everything is working fine a part from viewing the website only on my computer. If I type in the website its just browse and browse and nothing comes up. I think the main reason is when the domain redirection was in process I have tried to access the website and that blank page is still in the cache. One of my friend give me some ip address and it worked fine but the ip address from different country so it was quite slow. But there is no way i can access my website directly. these are the two methods I can access my website. I have format my windows as well still its the same issue. Click Accessories 4. RIGHT-click on Command Prompt 5. Select Run As Administrator 6. In the command window type the following and then hit enter: ipconfig /flushdns 7. I have a domain name registered with Google (gdomains through godaddy). I really love having everything handled through Google. I love the email, I'm used to the platform for my DNS settings, I like their file hosting, I have advertising credit, the registration price is perfect and includes 50 usernames and 90 CNAMES. The only thing is I really really don't like the Google Sites hosting platform. I know this isn't ideal but I'm really not ready to do a full transfer to a new host. Basically I just want something that will allow me to redirect my already registered domain name to a basic webpage that I can create through the host site. I have my own layout coded and everything and had my site up on Blogger, which was pretty close to how I want it in terms of features but it wasn't giving me the freedom I wanted to add extra pages and things like that. To water it down my site is basically a "blog" but I need 5 separately archived pages so you can see how that would be a problem with something like Blogger. Especially with my CNAMES because blog sites don't allow naked URLs. I use Webs for free hosting on smaller projects but I'm not sure if I trust them with my domain, plus I can't afford a premium package right now. I don't need the extra storage space or any of the other perks of a package deal right away, I know if I start getting traffic I will need to upgrade but I already have more than enough assets through Google to get started. If anyone has any suggestions or tips or even just hosting sites they would recommend that would be really helpful.@ledfrog.com- Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what I want to do, I just need to find a host that lets me do that. Okay so here's the deal. On my account on the computer I keep getting a pop up from Windows XP Guardian saying my computer is infected with spyware, and viruses and such. When I click on the little bubble it tells me that Firewall and Virus Protection are turned off. It tells me to turn them on by clicking "Recommendations," there is no Recommendations button, and when I click anything for help the program starts a phony scan, "finds" 13 viruses, and tells me the only way to get rid of them is to buy the full registered product online for 49.95! And it has blocked every website except for the one where I can buy the registered product, so I can't get on the internet! So I was a little suspicious, so I did an AVAST Scan, and it did find two viruses, but in nowhere near the same places the XP Scanner found them. When I tried to specifically scan the files XP Guardian had pointed out, I found that not only were these areas not infected, but the specific domains did not exist! Here's the kicker, when I log on as another user, I see that the Firewall is up and running, and I don't get any security breach notices. What the hell is up with my security system? Is my virus protector infected with a virus? How do I stop it from popping up? I can't delete it or un install it or scan the program with AVAST! And I don't know how to eliminate this probably fake, or otherwise malfunctioning, security system. Microsoft's website dooesn't have any help for this situation. Does anyone here have advice? 10 Points to whoever tells me whats going on and how I fix it. more

Today I was talking with the girlfriend of my my cousin, she works in a hospital, she told me that the hospital has contacted a professional web designing company in order in order to update the website because it's too old, she told me that the web designing company want 13k which is just a little bit expensive :) I know how to create a website, I have 1 under construction and I will build 2 in the near future, so she asked me if I can design a website, I told her yes, I can, she asked about the cost, I said that it's nothing, it's less than 1$ a month, because I can host it for free, and godaddy take about 12 $, but I thought that she want a personal website, I didn't know that she was asking me to update the website of the hospital:) So I was very polite and told her that it's free :P because I didn't want to take from her 1 $ a month :D And after a while, I understood that the website belongs to a hospital and that hospital has already registered a domain name, and I was shocked when she said that the hospital was going to pay 13 k to just update the website, I said that I'm ready to work on that website, but I need 4k to do it, because in order to create a professional website I have to pay about 500$ to get the best web package available and I want 3k to my pocket:) I said that because the girl is not going to pay anything, the hospital will pay everything:) Nothing is official yet, I don't know if the hospital is going to accept my offer, I know that building a website for a hospital is easy because this kind of websites do not required a hard work to be finished, most of the hospitals in Lebanon (I'm from Lebanon) have a homepage a support page, about us and it's all basically. I bought my first domain name today through godaddy.com. I then created my first site (or blog) using wordpress. After doing some research I found hostgator to be a better option than godaddy's host service so I went with them. With hostgator as my host I forwarded the traffic from the domain I bought through godaddy to the site I created with wordpress. Did a test and by typing in my domain name into the bar up top... what do ya know, I got to my site! I was happy lol. I still couldn't get to it through the search engine, even when I typed in my actual domain name, but I did that within seconds of signing up so I figured it may not be registered yet. I then signed up with commission junction to start posting affiliate links on my site. After searching around a bit I found a relevant program and decided to sign up with it. Tried to post on my wordpress blog and it didn't work saying they only allow advertising if you have a stand alone wordpress site through one of their approved hosting servers.. or something along those lines. And to my surprise... I didn't see hostgator on the list. Did I just waste the $10 dollars on hostgator or can I still somehow use my wordpress page through their host service and include aflliliate links on it? If so how do I do it? When I was surfing this forum I though I remember people saying you can use a webpage designed through wordpress with any host out there. -Side note, I'm a complete newbie to affliate marketing. I have a domain on godaddy that someone's interested in buying. I talked to godaddy and they want me to list it as a premium domain. I can do that, but they take 30% and I don't want them to, basically. The buyer doesn't want to just wire me the money and assume I'll unlock it and let it go, so what are my options? Should transfer to another register and then list it? I have register.com account - do they take a lower commission?Misc, that's a good idea, but they want to go through a 3rd party. It's a lot of money and we're on opposite sides of the world.Neither is my host. I talked to register and I can't sell through them. I've been looking for some photo sites to help me share my swim action photos with others. For free. I'm looking for a site that has very little restrictions on how many photos I can upload daily, and I can have a good 500+ photos on the site. I also want it so I have a personalized site with a sub-domain (pref.) or an album area where I can easily share my photos with others. It is very important that the users can download these images without having to do much (at most register at the site). Well I registered my domain & website "http://heavygamer100.com/", I downloaded Coffee cup, and Adobe dream-weaver. I created my page,but now I don't know how to upload it to my website, their is an upload button, but I click on it, it asks for my FTP server (what is that?) it asks for user name, it asks for password, it asks for www.folder (what is that?), and it asks for profile. Then it says it couldn't establish a connection to the internet. Is their any certain password & username I have to use? Thanks Regards more

I recently registered a domain name with google apps, I thought it would be similar to google sites. When I login I see a screen like this one http://www.schoonzie.com/files/GoogleApps-ServiceSettings.jpg I can manage users and e-mails from here.. but how can I edit the look of my website? I can't edit the website.. add a homepage, add files, or do anything of that sort. I just need help figuring out how I can get to the app or page where I can edit my website. more

Resolved Question: Releasing contact information for a private domain registration?

Does anyone know how I can get the contact information of a private domain registration? Specifically, I am referring to domains registered through Network Solutions. I am trying to reach the owner of the domain, but the email address provided on the whois, which is supposed to forward the email to the owner keeps bouncing the email back to me as undeliverable. Postal mail gets no reply either. Anyone have another solution? I called Network Solutions and they were no help. Is there any legal request I can make or something I can say to get the contact info out of Network Solutions? Please advise. Thanks. more
