Resolved Question: Nordic Heathens should we make this our international song of Heathenry?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYwzyZv2th0 lyrics: Morning arose that day long time gone, two ravens above him showed the way. He was guided by Odinn, led by the one who shelters the fallen every day by day... ...Once blood was shed of countless of man, in the name of the cross and christian pray... for hundred of years his heart laid in chains, but hate was growing stronger every day by day... "Ruler of Asgard, father of Thorr, send me your powers divine... Grant me your wisdom, strengthen my soul, so revenge of your blood shall be mine... Allfather Odinn, I entreat you with awe, to ride with me side by side, so avenged shall all be, who had died in the past, by the power of Heathenish pride... Master of thunder, lightning and rain, soon your hammer and cross shall collide... Protector of midgard's daughters and sons, in your name christian reign I will fight... When the hammer will crush, and oppressors will fall, my sword will be raised to thy hail! Then the fires shall burn in the name of the Gods as the sign of the Heathen prevail! Far in the past he saw what has been, his fathers traditions handed down, but he still kept in heart the will to prevail as his hate was growing stronger every day by day... Deep in his heart a shadow had grown which covered his mind with shades so gray, but still every morning encouraged his hope when he sat by the old oak every day by day... "Strong is my heart, and strong is my will, soon I will break our chain... Then the swords shall be raised and our flag held up high, the hammer of the heathen domain... Long I've awaited the day of revenge, the Heathenish reign to return... Now my sword blade is forged, and my soul will prepared, by my hands christian crosses shall burn..." ...Evening fell that day long time gone, the ravens above still showed the way, they were guided by Odinn, led by the one, who shelters the fallen every day by day... ...Blood to be shed of countless of men, in the name of revenge and Heathen pride... No more withdraw will be on Heathenish ground, no more mercy will be when Gjallarhorn will sound... more

Voting Question: I have been a victim of online fraud. I need some serious advice....?

I'll try and keep this as brief as possible: In September 2009, on a discussion forum, I saw an advertisement for an Apple IPhone 3GS which was being sold for a very reasonable price of $100. This person who was selling it mentioned the company's name and address (he was a supposed General Manager of) in this advertisement. I made a stupid mistake of thinking I could buy a really cheap IPhone so I emailed this guy. His email ends with the domain '.cn' which I think might be a Chinese domain. This person replied and said the company he works for sells cheap electronics at discounted prices and upon request he provided the company name and address. I looked up the address and it's a company registered in Birmingham, England (UK). Basically I asked him a lot of questions and he kept putting my mind at ease and I didn't even pay attention to his email domain at that time. He mentioned that he would only take the payment via Western Union and I was reluctant at first but agreed as I knew the IPhone 3GS was retailing for a whole lot more elsewhere than the price he was offering. I made the payment and he collected it, after a while he emailed me and said that his warehouse manager had mispackaged 3 different phones and sent them for delivery to me so his boss has immediately stopped the delivery.... and now he was demanding that I pay more money for the redelivery. Basically we were emailing each other back and forth after this incident and he kept making excuses after excuses. I had my doubts about this deal and they came true unfortunately for me. It sounded to good to be true! I have made a really stupid mistake in believing this guy and would like you guys to help me If possible. I would like to know can the Police in the UK help me reclaim my money or who else can I approach as obviously this guy with a domain like .cn isn't based in England so the Police in England won't be able to do much with International fraud? P.S. As evidence I have kept all of the emails + screenshots of the advertisement he had put up (which he later removed!) Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much! more

Resolved Question: Do you recognize the signs of this scam?

This is a classic example of the lottery scam. I have added comments (like this) behind each sign i see. Dear Winner, (too anonymous - if they know who you are, your name should be here) This is to inform you that you have been selected for a cash prize of £1,000,000.00 (One Million Great British Pounds) from International programs held on 1st November 2009 in London UK. (The spelling/grammar aside - the "great british pounds" is an expression not often used in the real world. Pounds, or Pounds Sterling are more common) To begin the processing of your prize you are to contact our fiduciary claims department for more information as regards procedures to claim your prize. Resolved Question: Why did the world reject Glenn Beck?

The World(International Property Organization) rejected Beck's claim that the website glennbeckrapedandmurderedayounggirlin1990.com violated Mr. Beck's trademark(his name) since 'glenn beck' is in the domain name. The WIPO disagreed since the site is non-commercial Did Beck also plan on suing wikipedia? Has he ever heard of fair use? What legal avenue will Beck try next to destroy free speech? The world clearly rejected him. I am sorry. If Glenn Beck is so righteous, why have the Angels-Yankees games had higher ratings? Since surely higher ratings are correlated with righteousness..*Just noticed stupid typo on my part. WIPO is World Intellectual Property Organization. World International would be rather redundant.I think you are the one who is confused. It was Fox lawyers arguing for a Fox affiliate that argued(successfully) that news organizations have the right to lie and distort information to the public. more

Resolved Question: Author search for lulu.com?

So I use to be a member of Poetry.com, which was ran by the ILP (International Library of Poets). The ILP went bankrupt and sold the domain www.poetry.com to lulu. I was concerned seeing as how I had about 40+ poems on poetry.com and all had been copyrighted through them, I contacted lulu help and gave them the necessary information to try and find my work. I recieved a message saying that they found my work, and all I had to do was type my last name in the author search. I've been all through that site and typed my name in every field, and have yet to find my work. Anyone know where there is an author search box for lulu.com ? more

Resolved Question: Copyright law and licenses, some links for my doubts?

hi there. my name is dave, and i am trying to get in to the website development business. there is me and a friend, between us we know all the code and design, but we have a few legal doubts. as this is internet we are talking about, i am looking for some information on international law, or what tends to be the law in most places. you dont need to go in to detail explaining or anything, just a couple simple links to the correct articles would be great. my doubts are: - to what extent can things be considered fair use under copyright law? text qutations, short video clips, etc... (i know a bit about DMCAs and that false ones can be contested and what not, but im looking more for what constitutes a violation of the DMCA.) - what is the difference between public domain and open source? can open source things always be used for comercial use just like public domain can, or do they tend to have different licenses for each software/product etc... (as far as using it to create something, like using GIMP to make a picture, and then sell or market said picture. - are there any not well known laws on the whole copyright thing that i should know of? (things that if i did them without knowing i could get in serious trouble) .. nothing obvious, i know the general things. thanks for any help. more

Resolved Question: Are my employers allowed to use facebook as evidence in a disciplinary meeting?

I work for a large international company, and recently I was approached by my superviser who produced several printed sheets from facebook displaying a profile with my name, and a picture which could have been me (the profile picture had a mask on). On the pages there were several highlighted wall posts from different times, either stating my displeasure in my job, that I was going to leave soon, or posts from my mobile phone during my working hours. They cannot do anything about the first 2, but they are trying to use the posts put up during my working hours as evidence that I used my mobile phone on site (which is banned). After showing my disgust at the tactics of HR, the HR manager told me that facebook was in the public domain and anyone could access and use that information. Is it true that they can use this as evidence? I am under the impression that as facebook is as they pointed out, in the public domain, anyone could access and change that info. cheers. more

Resolved Question: Why is this still happening.....?

Child sex abuse images on the internet are becoming more violent, although the number of sites showing them has fallen, a report has revealed. The Internet Watch Foundation said the proportion of websites posting horrific images of child torture or rape is up by 11%. It found that 58% of child sexual abuse domains traced in 2008 contained graphic images involving penetration or torture, compared with 47% in 2007. Investigators traced 1,536 websites around the world publishing child abuse images last year, a fall of 10% on the previous year. Increased vigilance by police and a series of hotlines has made it harder for commercial groups to operate child porn websites, according to the IWF. Chief executive Peter Robbins said: "These websites, although reducing in number, represent an extremely serious problem. The report also found that of the child victims in the images, 69% appeared to be 10 years old or younger and 24% were aged six or under. Diana Sutton, head of policy and public affairs at the NSPCC, told Sky News: "This report is a reminder that websites showing appalling images of often very young children being seriously sexually assaulted are still a serious and growing problem. "The Government must put in the resources for a concerted international police effort to take out the major criminal gangs behind sites that trade in the abuse of children." http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/World-News/Child-Porn-Images-Online-Getting-Worse-But-Number-Of-Websites-Showing-Child-Sex-Abuse-Down-Says-IWF/Article/200904415271363?lpos=World_News_Second_UK_News_Article_Teaser_Region_7&lid=ARTICLE_15271363_Child_Porn_Images_Online_Getting_Worse_But_Number_Of_Websites_Showing_Child_Sex_Abuse_Down_Says_IWF Why oh why in the name of God, do these sites still operate? It beggars belief that ANYONE would find the rape of any child, let alone a child under the age of ten a sexual turn on!! Is there anything that can be done to stop this vile act?Breaks my heart it really does :-( more

Resolved Question: Is this trademark a global trademark?

A company has contacted me to say that one of my domain names is being used illegally by me and infringes on their's (misrepresentation). I don't believe it does, but they say they have an international trademark to prove it. I don't want to name and shame, but I need to know if they are correct? All they wanted in return was for me to go to the location (Cyprus/Paphos), and do a review of the 5star hotel. I filled in the forms and I've received my welcome pack. It was sent from Cyprus. They are Leptos VIP and their website is www.leptosvip.com and there's an international phone number. The letters say they are part of Leptos Calypso Hotels Public Ltd. They are asking for €42 (£36) per night for 7 nights as a Nominal service fee. The word 'free' has gone out the window. Ok so for 7 nights, that's £252 or £126 each person for the week. They've totally got my sirname wrong on the offer letter so I'm thinking it may be a scam where after they take my money they say that I have to pay full price as the name is different. They've spelt London wrong, and got my post code totally mixed up. It's a wonder it got here! It's dated 21 Nov and arrived today and according to the letter, I have to buy my €42 vouchers by 15th December. Not a lot of time. My instingt is telling me it's a scam and anything too good to be true, generally is. Anyway, I've looked at their site, even typing in the site address and 'scam' after it and nothing came up. Even their correspondance address is a P.O Box! I found out the domain to have been registered in August 2008! Not good. If anyone knows anything then please let me know or direct me to some info sites on this if you find anything. Thanks more

Voting Question: Safe way to pay an agency that's possibly a scammer? Is Paypal safe?

There's this UK-based agency that helps international students in studying in the UK. I tried almost every way to verify the existence and legitimacy of that company. The company has its own website but according to those who answered my question here in the past, having a domain does not guarantee the legitimacy of the company. I got in touch with Companies House, domain providers, UK government agencies, and every institution that you can think of. None of them was able to help me, Pardon me if I cannot tell you guys about the company's name, website, and kind of information/service I need from them as I don't wanna accuse them of something I'm not sure about. It's just an international student matter and my question below is very general. Now, I need to pay the service fee for them to disclose the info I need and process several papers for my studies in the UK (I know anyone can do this himself/herself but for a reason, I really need their help). My question is: what is the safest way to pay them so I can get my money back if I don't get the service they promised to give me? and why do you think it's safe? How about Paypal? Money transfer? Bank transfer? Western Union? what? And have you got any advice for me about paying? (No more verification, background checks and contacting UK authorities, please) Of course, it's a business and that is why it charges a fee for their service. And yes, I can do it myself if and only if I have enough money to fund my tuition fees. Unfortunately, I don't. The info they're going to give me is about financing my studies. Just please suggest a safe way of paying, a way to get my money back if ever it really is a scam. Can I get my money back if I paid through Paypal? The chance that the agency's a scammer is 50-50. They even have a website that ends with .com, which may not guarantee its legitimacy. The chance that the agency's a scammer is 50-50. Resolved Question: What is the best website to buy domain names? Also, what is the best webhosting site for a busy business?

Hi...I am new to making a website. I run a busy international business, and can't be bothered with slow traffic. I wanted to get the best webhosting site (unlimited data). What site do you recommend? Also, if I were to buy domain from say godaddy.com, do I have to also buy web hosting through same company (godaddy). I figured that if I bought domain from godaddy and went with a different site to use as webhost, it might make it slow for people to come to my website, b/c the domain that I bought from godaddy will have to redirect to the web host that is from A DIFFERENT company. I figure that it is best to buy domain and webhost from the same place b/c it will be the quickest for people to come onto my site with no lag time (there won't be much redirection b/c both domain and webhost are from same company). Am I right in my thinking? more

Resolved Question: Can a forum member in Germany sue an international forum?

Can a forum member based in Germany sue an international forum based in another country, and expect damages? Recently a German member of an international site with a .us domain was banned for repeatedly breaking forum rules. He has asked that all of his posts be removed and is threatening legal action. I am wondering if there are Internet laws in Germany that would protect his posts as "intellectual property" or whether he could successfully claim a "privacy" violation, or make some other claim of injury. Once he was banned his account ID, and all mention of his identity in every thread in the forum, changed automatically to a numbered anonymous name that all members are assigned who leave voluntarily or who are banned. So no one would know who he is. Thank youI need to clarify. The German forum member is threatening legal action if his posts are not removed. more

Resolved Question: What should i place on my website to let other sellers know that the name of my comp. has a pending trademark?

I started an ebay buisness last year that quickly grew international. I have many customers who call me directy and ask many questions. Just recently, I have noticed that the name of my company has been taken by two seperate customers of mine who decdied to sell my product as well (after taking my ideas and hard work, they have also taken my name!). They are using my brand name that i thought of myself and used on ebay as the brandname of there product (which is from a different vendor). This is an attempt to confuse customers who may think we are selling the same exact product. The products are very similar BUT mine are a superior quality and come from a different source. The companies name was thought of in an attempt to "brand my own line"..now two others are using it! I have purchased all domain names with my companies name on it and hired a trademark company to stat that process. What can i place on my website (if i dont have the trademark pending number just yet)? more
