Open Question: How does one report the scholarship income from 1099 correctly on 1040ez?

Hi all. I will need to provide extensive detail on this question. I am a Phd candidate and I get a W2 form as well as a 1099 for scholarship income. (Long story short in the past I was an international and got a 1042 s for the scholarship form and filled out 1040nr-ez on which there was a space to report your income, your scholarship, and portion of scholarship used for educational expenses). the guidebook notes that for those using 1040ez, both w2 income and the scholarship portion from 1099misc should be reported on line1 with the capitalized letters SCH next to the scholarship portion. B/c there's no other space to report the portion one is claiming to have used for educational expenses, one can deduct that and report the remaining fellowship portion with SCH next to it. Here is the citation http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/642280-how-do-i-report-scholarship-income-1040ez.html This is EXACTLY what I did for the 07 tax returns, even including a separate letter explaining how much of the scholarship portion I'd used for educational expenses (this is recommended but not required). I then was horrified-never having dealt with this sort of bureaucratic stupidity or BS sorry) to get a letter from the IRS last May claiming that i owed taxes on my unreported scholarship. It took me a while to figure out that the IRS fools had thought I was reporting ZERO for my scholarship. I had reported on line 1 the following: 12 (w2) +6 (SCH)-18 (total). One would think that the SUMMATION SIGN plus the required SCH letters plus equals should make things clear-PLUS the recommended explanation letter. Simple math! The scholarship was 7500 and I claimed 1500 for educational expenses and reported the 6 as page 4 of the guidelines indicate. It too me -GET THIS 3 hours on the phone with various IRS officials to get this cleared up. AFter filling out a survey, and after citing from the guidelines that the IRS officials seemed to be UNAWARE OF, they told me i'd in fact done it correctly and that I'm eligible to fill out 1040ez-DUH. They then told me that they could not promise another mistake or misunderstanding of this sort for this year and that the explanation letter that is advised by TAX EXPERTS was probably discarded b/c it's not an OFFICIAL IRS FORM. what am I doing wrong? Can somebody help me? The IRS people told me that it's rare for someone on a scholarship to get a 1099misc-YET if you look this up, even GOOGLE will tell you that it being a miscellaneous form, scholarship is one of the TYPES of income it's good for. I am sorry but I am really fed up with the bureaucratic stupidity and I am at my wits end trying to prevent another audit. Also, I am moving to the UK and I don't want this trailing behind me so I really need help. I consulted the school where I am at btw, and no one was able to offer me advice-God forbid that they offer advice and then are held accountable!!!This is exactly what I did: http://www.finaid.org/scholarships/taxability.phtml That is, I reported the taxable portion of the scholarship, with SCH next to it, on line 1 of form 1040ez and attached an explanatory letter. The IRS official said that the letter was probably never read and hence the confusion. Should I staple it to ensure it's read? more

Ok i needed to pay the rent for the coming month so my husband took out a loan for $775 .. The Finance charge was gonna be $ 156.91 APR being at 821.11% Therefore the total of payments were gonna be $ 931.91 .. Okay this is my payment schedule; One payment of $776.91 to lender on 3/11/10 and one payment of $155.00 to CSO on 3/11/10 as well. I took out the Loan on 3/2/10 I went back 3/5/10 and gave a payment of $231.91 , Obviously i still have time cause its not the 11th, the lady made me a copy stating that i owed $ 842.49 for the 18th of this month! I dont know how she did that but since i was in a hurry i didnt see! I believe she renewed the loan so the paper states as the following; amount financed $700, Finance Charge $142.49 with the APR of 571.53 % Total of Payments $842.49! My question is was she suppose to do that since the payment was due on the 11th(today) or was the $231.91 suppose to go to the principle. I believe she is charging me the finance charge again but i had gone on the 5th so i still had time Right? please help me i am pregnant and stressing with this and i dont wanna get ripped off, i barely have for this loan after we are gonna go back to owing rent for the month of April !! thank you so much! more

My son has been with this girl millie for about 4 years now. he's 22, and she's 19. they met when my son was in his senior year, and she was in 9th grade. She was on adderall (amphetamines) for adhd when they met, so she came with some preexisting baggage. She is very in-secure, and tries to control his every move.I was used to a very close relationship with Ryan, before he met millie. I have had a few problems of my own along the way , but I have loved and doted ryan forever, he has been one of the few bright spots in my life. It was very difficult for me when Ryan left the home, very hard to adjust to; but I managed. Ryan and millie have shared an apartment now for about 1 1/2 years. For obvious reasons wasn't'nt seeing him as much; actually alot less. One day on the weekend as we were talking we decided that we would devote sunday as a day for Ryan and I to hang out and watch football ( we love the Broncos, and just football in general) : so when football season started We are watching the game and millie is at work at d.q. and she must have texted him 10-12 times, and called 6-7 times! one call was when she got to work , and had not even been gone(we live in a small town) 15 minutes! It was not long; about halfway through football season, and here she was home now on sundays ; and not long after that her days off were the same as mine! We can't go to a movie, concert, or even the gym without some sort of interference from her! One time couldn't'nt go with me to the gym because she had to have him walk her down one flight of steps so she could get laundry out of the dryer! My son was always confident, and sure of himself, and now it really seems like he's p.....y whipped ! They also act like their married, and it makes wantn't to vomit! She is a little bit below what I consider average intelligence; she once wrote me a letter when we were angry with one another, atheirher are 4th graders that are academically superior! Anyway since Ryan has been paying taxes I have done his taxes for him. The one page ez form is almost easy enough for a chimpanzee. anyway this year when I asked him about the taxes, he started to behave/act strangely awouldn't'nt give me a straight answer. I later found out that he gave his w2 to her mom to prepare taxes for him. I was very hurt and angry! How am I all of a sudden not competent enough to do his taxes? When I approached him about this , his attitude was that of indifference.In the past we have hquarrelslls and the reconciled/made up, but our latest clash I fear, is a little beyond a make up hug, and I don't feel comfortable going over to their place anymore. I need my son to be in my life, and bear the thought of not having him in my life ! then again I feel terrible that he had her mom do his taxes. have a couple of ppl tell me this in my life, Im thinking the ones who told me this dont seem to accept reality as far as Im concern. Im well aware reality is how you precieve it to be some it's an illusion to some they are wishing and hoping they were someone else(been stop thinking like that since teen days) and back then I didn't want to be who I admire then who would play my part admiring these ppl? I know some girl she's addict to the stories soap operas(like so many others) but I dont even like them real life stories are going on while someone is controlling the "scene" nobody yelling cut in the real world. I had an aunt who told me this before she's a drug addict and try to manipulate ppl... I have ppl think if they getting over on ppl they are feeling good about themselves or happy to out trick others for simple little things far as Im concern. Now me I dont do drugs and if I did it would be out of boredome of seeing this life playing it's part to well or just knowing it's to predicatable. I love music and art and can talk about any and everything trust, respect others cause I want respect ppl going to live their life regardless but why would ppl say this about me and I see how reality is. I accept the beauty with the ulgy know it's always a positve for every negative. Have lots of love within so it's ez to share Im hip to ppl con games or insecurity games and quit frankly Im sick of it but sick enuff to live in a fantasy world they are one in the same if you ask me. That's why I love art cause you express something which you really cant tell if it's real or not but an artist job it to make ppl believe. Hey everybody, I'm very upset because all my life I been a good person and it seems like I always meet mean ghetto ass girls who act like my friends but then talk about me behind my back and always want to fight me. Im not a experienced fighter, I feel girls shouldn't fight unless they have to, not over stupid he say she say stuff. Well I eventually realize that they are not the right people to be around so I cut them off and started spending time with my positive real friends however its not as ez as it sounds. Now the girls call my phone threaten me saying they want to fight me because I think Im better than them. Whats a girl to do? Most of this girls have been fighting all their life, they prey on the weak and scare alot of girls with their mouth. But i no these girls well and i know I only have to worry about one in particular, the leader! She's always the one doing the fighting. I don't like to fight but I'm not going to let no one hurt me. Does anyone no a good way for me to handle this girl in case i run into her? I'm only 5'1 and shes 5'6. My boyfriend said height doesn't matter be confident. That's ez for him to say because he is a good fighter and no one wants to fight him. Please help? Give me some good pointers to help me win the fight like i said I don't like to fight but i must defend myself and I no Im going to see her around and shes going to try me for sure esp. if its alot of people around. When I ask any one how can I make a new friend they all just say join a group just try to talk to the kids in ur grade but it's just not as ez as they all say. They live 4 hours away and she was planning on moving close to him in February, Well she tried over and over and he just kept saying idk there is a chance though when you come down to washington that we may get back together. They had other circumstances that came up and they were banned from talking to each other by their parents. (Yes their over 21 their parents are just really close) She was angry and told him she didnt want to be contacted by him and he agreed but now she does want him to contact her and least be friends especially since she knows no one in washington. or talk to much eveything was so strick..if it wasn't about drugs my family wasn't worried.. so I master the art of communication in my mind. Resolved Question: Bolt Got Stuck, Dad Attempted To Remove It With EZ Out, THAT Got Stuck, Now What Can I Do?! HELP! Pics?

Talk about horrible luck. Got my Chevelle as a project car, immediately took the engine out and did a full rebuild. Everything new. Got it back into the car, have it bolted up, got all the brackets/the pulleys/the hoses/belts and everything on. All I needed to do was wire the battery, alternator, starter, put valve covers on, prime it, check oil pressure and then set timing and fire it up. Got up to where I went to put the valve covers on. One of the bolts must have been in bad shape and it snapped when tightening into the threads. Very easy going on the tightening and snap. Dad goes and starts to get it out. But in the process, that EZ out thing snapped in there too. Now, I don't know what to do. This was all I had to do before firing this thing up for the first time in 20 years doing it all by myself (first rebuild). Bad luck haha. What can I do? Drill again... any advice will be great. For the valve cover bolts off a Chevy 350. My relationship is a little crazy... me and my boyfriend have had it rough in the past and we have both done things wrong. My best freind can and thank god but.. he never really talks just copies other people and makes fun of them which even makes me smile :P But the problem is the main conversation i have in real life with this best freind as a gurl... is how are you or what did u do today or yesterday......Or during class i use what the teacher says to make her laugh and that is the only thing that seems to work......... becuz i dont like to show my emotion to the public and surely not to make a fool of my self making fun of people..... While i see this other guy always walking with her and they are always smiling and never bored it seems ( they dont like each other i know for 100%) . Maybe i should do more body language? Touch her? because my when my best freind does that she seems to laugh at it... o really need help more

Im 16 years old almost 17 and im so insecure of how i look or how i act. I can talk normally on MSN or txting and its intersting but in real life its the total opposite.. i cant seem to be like others .. i cant laugh at stupid things as they do or even show any type of expression when someone else talks... unless they say smthing actually funny... My best freind and my have NO problem communicating and we are too good of freinds for anyones good :P infact any guy its ez to talk to but girls are a different story I have a girl thats my other best freind (just female) and I CANT EVER talk about anything because THERE IS NOTHING!!! me and my ez had broken up after 3 months (that's loooooong when your in high school) and my friend who i asked for advice on him, he had always been helpful And friendly started going out with him secretly a 2 weeks after we had broken up. it pisses me off that she didn't even hav the balls to tell me. he was a really caring guy but i broke his heart because i couldnt handel it anymore, i was depressed. anyway the girl he now goes out with hates me because i dont talk to her, she gives my the evils and shoves me whenever a walk past her. the guy is kinda creepy because he is always staring at me especialy when hes hugging her. am i wrong for not talking to her and why does my ex stare at me also am i wrong for mising him? more

yes this is a repost but i want to get all sorts of opinions and answers!! ok so there's this guy named tyler and me and him have recently started talking a lot, and i like him, ive liked him since the end of 8th grade....we were texting over the summer, and the first day of school, when i saw him (i saw him in the hallway and we don't have any classes together ) he smiled and acted like i brightened his day when he saw me...then he hugged me, which i didn't exspect, but now whenever i pass him in the hallway we always say hi, of course im always smiling when i say it, and he is to....and when we have time we'll talk and hug eachother....but what im wondering is....do u think he's into me?? i mean we would flirt with each other in school, and he wants me to come to his soccer games and watch him score some goals, cause he's really good, but could we be more then friends?? cause i really like him thanks!! no mean answers plz.! i just need an opinion ohh and idk if this is relivant but we're both freshmen this year haha well i think he's into me, but somehow its hard to tell, he never really gives me any big indicators that he really likes me as much as i like him and normally im the one who starts the conversations, should i stop texting him for a while?? thanks!! more
