Open Question: How can I renew my website? ..it's a complicated situation?

Last year, January 25, I created a website. Keep in mind, I'm not that educated with this sort of thing, and I just have been trying my best to learn as I go. I went with JustHost.com, and they were a nightmare. I tried to cancel my account, and they wouldn't let me. I'll spare you the details, but after 2 months of fighting with them, I contacted a guy who builds & maintains websites for people & businesses for a living. Even he thought it was absolutely ridiculous, the way JustHost was doing business. Anyway, I had to just cancel that particular card that JustHost was charging, so THEY would cancel ME for non-payment. That worked. Well, my website expired Jan 25th, & apparently I am under a "grace period" of some sort. I have no idea how to renew my domain name! I can't login, because my user name & password was canceled by JustHost when I canceled that card. So I'm totally at a loss as to how I can renew it. I tried calling JustHost, but after a little over an hour of being placed on hold, and having NEVER talked to a live person, I hung up...this was all too familiar from last year, anyway, I have NEVER talked to a live person at JustHost. So ...anyone have any bright ideas? more

A friends business changed their primary domain over 18 months ago. Previously they had a number of domains for each sector of their business. These were 301 redirected to relevant category pages in the new domain. But Yahoo search is still listing the original .co.uk domains over 18 months after the change. Resolved Question: B&F Top Contributors: Is this solicitation?

Someone in business and finance asked "how do I make money online". I gave him an answer on how I do it, and I was reported. I tried to appeal it and they rejected my appeal (twice) and took 20 points from my account. I feel that it was top contributors who reported me because everytime I post anything in Business and Finance, it gets reported. I think that some of the Top Contributors automatically assume that it's impossible to make money online. They think everything is a scam. I think people should be more careful when reporting answers in this section. You tell me, was this answer solicitation, and HOW? my answer: "Start an online community, a mini myspace in other words or forum. I have a few dating sites and I use adwords to get members. The site is free and I only have about 800 members so far on my main site, but once I have more (about 5,000 or more), I will place ads on there and make money from the ads just like myspace does. There's free software out there for social sites so after you install it, you just work on getting members to sign up. I use Google adwords to advertise mainly. My main site is an asian site so its cheaper for me to advertise since I only only show ads to people out of Asian countries. This is cheaper for advertising, but it also means I'll make less once I place ads on there, because clicks from people in Asia don't pay as well since they don't buy as much online as Americans, Canadians etc. As far as selling domains, that's not easy. I used to do it but it's just getting harder now with the economy the way it is. But most of the people I sold domains to were other domain investors. Advertising is recession proof though. There is always people who are looking to advertise their businesses, even when the economy is bad. Another thing you can do is buy misspelled domains or domains you think you can park. I park domains and some have been pretty successful. There's this one celebrity that just became real famous (realized I can't say his name for certain reasons), and right around the time this was happening, I bought about 4 domain names that are misspellings of his name. Now people searching for his name on the internet who misspell it, end up at my parked page, where I have ads that some of them click on."notice how I said "There's free software out there". They got me so nervous just to mention any company other than Google in this section. I took extra precaution and was still reported. Why? more

Hello! I have recently decided to start my own business. I purchased my domain name through godaddy.com... and I was using wix.com to begin to build the website, however, I realized that if i wanted to publish my website from wix to the domain i purchased from godaddy.com that I would have to pay a monthly fee! Resolved Question: What legal issues would I face publishing a book with emails from a dishonest business to expose the truth?

I paid a web design company to develop a website for me. Unfortunately, I didn't do much research first. This company has a reputation for dishonesty. It is rumored that the reason the company changed its name last year was to throw off the stench of the reputation it got from so many complaints filed against it. I have dozens of emails from them documenting a variety of problems. I want to draw attention to their practices. So far, my efforts to draw attention to them have not done much. I was thinking of publishing a book about my experience trying to get a business started, which would focus heavily on this company sabotaging me. They even hijacked the domain name that I had them register for me preventing me from using it. According to what I have been hearing, they have sabotaged quite a few others trying to start businesses. more

Voting Question: What legal rights do I have to challenge a new business who is confusing my customers?

I have been operating a small business for over 3 years and have used the same business name. I have now noticed another business in the same industry as I am in has chosen the same words, changed them around to confuse my customers. What can I do? Can I write a legal letter advising them to stop doing this? Should I trademark my name to make sure I protect it at all times? Am I within my rights to stop her from using my existing business details if I can demonstrate I had the logo, business details before she did? Should I get a lawyer to write a letter? I'm really concerned, because she has just bought domain names exactly as my own. I call my business Soiree Yoga Services, hers is 'The Soiree Yoga Services' her name is not Soiree, nor are there any other people who have a similar name as my own. Resolved Question: I want to build a website?

I would very much like to build a personal website to use as I please: business, school, blogging, what-have-you. The problem is, I'm new to this. I've done some research, but would like some more information, or at least, confirmation on how it all works. Does a domain name allow you to build the website and run it as well or must you buy a hosting as well? I was looking at GoDaddy most of all. Are they reputable? The best choice? Is there someone with less advertising that I should check out because they offer better quality services? Is there anything specific I should learn before doing this? Must I be proficient in html? C++? Or will the provider more than likely have a fool proof system? Anyone with experience in setting up and executing websites, I'd appreciate some help. more

Voting Question: Can an LLC have 2 faces / brands / DBAs?

I would like to start a small technical services firm . My issue is that I would like to start a Spanish version with one name and domain A , and another in English with another name and domain B . Is is acceptable to create an LLC C such that I advertise both A and B , yet operate only as company C ? I ask because I want to avoid the costs of forming 2 LLCs and because I may think of other names for the same service down the road, and don't want the hassle of re-forming the business . I think it would be best to form one LLC that "services" the other business fronts . Are DBA certificates required or are they not necessary if you form an LLC ? My research suggests that DBA certificates are artifacts of a sole proprietorship , not an LLC or Corporation . Thanks for any pointers -- M more

Resolved Question: Cant get my Mail working properly!!?

Hi all, Having a problem with my e-mails I’m using Microsoft office 2003 as a mail client for an eircom.net pop 3 account, the problem is mails not being sent or received to and from only some addresses there is no common factors with the addresses such as domain names as well as this, the problem is intermittent, some days they will get through other days they wont. My office pop 3 and SMTP settings are correct and I have tried sending mails from the web-mail based service just to make sure with no luck. I am receiving no messages from mailer daemons indicating that there were any problems with deliveries. I have also scanned my system for any malicious software even though I thought it was an unlikely cause. If anyone could offer any help it would be much appreciated, it is a very frustrating problem due to the facts that it is so intermittent, this is a business address and changing my address is not really an option. Thank you in advance, Ger. P.S Don’t think it will matter but just in case the OS is XP service pack 3 the anti-virus software is Avast! Pro 4.8 and Malwarebytes. more

Voting Question: Affiliate marketing and youtube?

There's a company that sells a product online that I use on a day to day basis. I want to become an affiliate marketer for that company ie; drive customers and business to their site and get a kick back for it. i want to start by creating a youtube video of me demonstrating the produce with a link to the their site. I went on to the companies site that sells the product and found nothing about any sort of affiliate program. Does every company participate in affiliate programs... if I call what are the chances that they'll say they don't need my help? I plan on calling over the next couple days but figured I'd ask here first so I don't look like an idiot. How does affiliate marketing work.. will they simply provide me with a link I can embed into my video? Do I need a domain name to act as a sort of middle man between my video and their site or can i simply use the video? Do I need a license to do this? If a customer follows my link and creates an account with their company (you need to do this in order to buy anything from them) will I get residual income on each time they purchase from then on? Any good books to read up on affiliate marketing to find out other ways to make money online? Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Will a new domain which points to my existing site show up on Google?

G'day All, I have an existing website for my business and I thought I could increase traffic by purchasing some domain names and pointing those to my existing page. The idea is, I use some of the keywords which get me a lot of impressions on Adwords, make domains out of them and hopefully improve my page rank on google. eg. current site: saffaicecream.com (not real!) keyword: ice cream south africa new pointing domain: icecreamsouthafrica.com --> saffaicecream.com Will google allow it? what shows up in the description of the site if the domain is forwarded? Thanks!the page has been up for 10 months and on some keywords performs very well. with regards to the keywords i'm looking at, it ranks anywhere between page 6 and page 106 on googs. some of the keywords are very competiive, thus the poor ranking, but are very relevant to my site and appear several times on each page. imagine a business that outsources IT proffessionals in Qld, but when you goog "IT professionals qld" you get 100 pages of employment ads seeking IT pros in Qld. so would itproffessionalsqld.com (example) pointed to my site, improve the ranking. more

Resolved Question: What do you think about this ethical question?

I recieved a voicemail on my cellphone from a caller looking for a person I didn't know (The caller had the wrong number). Let's call the person the caller was looking for "Bill Smith" even though that wasn't his name. The automated message said something like "This is a message for Bill Smith. This is a confidential call. If you are not Bill Smith you should hang up the phone at this time *pause* By continuing to listen to this message you have confirmed that you are Bill Smith. This is a an automated call from debt collection services. We are attempting to reach you. Please call ########." I have recieved many many many calls for "Bill Smith" before, but just from people saying "I'm looking for Bill Smith please return my call. This is an urgent business matter". Usually they leave messages because my phone isn't on. The reason I listened to this message was to see if it might help me figure out why I've been getting calls for this person over and over. My question is. Do you think I had a right to listen to this message? If a company or debt collection agency sends something to my cellular phone, do they really have a right to tell me I can't listen to it? I feel like once the information is sent to me, it's in my domain and I can do with it as I wish, and that it is the responsibility of the sender to send information to the correct place. What do you think? more
