Hi! I'm 13 going to turn 14. I really want to have a big birthday party, because all my life, I've never really had my own party. The closest I got to a party was inviting 2 friends to a sleepover, but that's it! I've already told my parents about it, and they said no way they are going to pay alot of money for a party. So, this summer, I've been raising my own money mowing lawns and selling small figurines&charms that I made myself, and I think that I have made a pretty decent profit out of it. First, I want to know a good but cheap place to host the party. I can't really have it in my backyard, because the party is going to be in the wintertime (February) I want to invite ALOT of people, from friends, relatives, neighbors etc. Second, entertainment! I really don't plan on hiring a DJ. Instead, I have a friend who wants to become a DJ, and I think I would like to give him his chance on the spotlight for once. And, I also want some of my friends bands to play at the party, to give them their chances in the spotlight, too. What about games? Third, decorations and invitations! Well, not really invitation, more like decorations. I don't really have any clue on a theme and I don't want to spend a whole lot. Fourth, food! Just one thing, I decided to bake my own cake! But, anyways, I don't really want to pay a WHOOOOLE bunch of money for catering. But, I want there to be good food :x Help? If I left out anything, I don't mind if you add any tips in. Open Question: Why are parents now so apt to letting America's youth "even out"?

I am asking this because I have recently encountered a group of women on a social network that like a particular baby product that I also love. It is a non-necessity item that is rather expensive given it's actual purpose. This brand has recently done a cheaper version for a large chain store. Some women love it becasue it makes it available to those who have loved the brand but couldn't afford to purchase. Others, myself included, slightly feel like the brand is "selling out". They already host great sales and their item can be regularly found on various Deal of the day sites or other sites at great sales; so this bag at this price seemed a bit odd to some. Anyway a few, myself included, were attacked by others who couldn't afford the regular item (even on sale I suppose). We were told we are elitest and snobby. To me I find joy in that bit of uniqness I get my owning something that is beautiful, functional and not anyone else I know has. Anyway this all leads to my point. One mom said "I just wish everyone would let it go and realize that we are all equals". I am not trying to say I am better then any of them becasue I don't like the cheaper version. I just don't like the steps the brand took to make the cheaper version and the core busniess values they had that were sacrificed to make the cheap one. But her statement REALLY struck a nerver with me. I DO NOT want my kids to grow up thinking everyone is "equals" with them. I believe in equal rights under the law. And I believe in respecting others and their differences. And being sensative to those difference when need be. But I don't want my 3 YO to think that everyone is as smart as her, becasue some are some are smarter and some are not. I do not want her to think her and everyone else are just as good dancers. Some are better, some worse. ect. I think it is a slippery slope telling our youth they are all the same. What will they strive for if they think they are just as good as everyone else? When they get jobs will they understand that those above them have authority over them? Or will they believe they are equal in their positions? Competition is healthy. IT IS OK TO LOSE!!!!!!! And ITS OK TO CELEBRATE WHEN YOU WIN!!!! Not everyone can have the things you do and that is ok they are still good people (usually), and there will be some people with more then you but you don't need everything. It seems like such common sense to me yet soo many parents/social figure heads are steaming towards the other direction. It scares the HELL out of me where this mentality will leave this new generation when they get into school/college/life. Socialism DOES NOT work. So why are we pushing our children into it. When did freindly competition become a game of little league where no score is kept so everyone is happy? Where no winner is declared? Why bother playing if you can never try and win?It isn't about the product obv you all can't see past that. I am saying something as rediculous as women disagring over a baby item can show what is really behind a major problem IMO with our society today. Just by dusagreeing over something so meaningless you can see what is really behind MOST things today that those who have less it seems want everyone to be equal to them. And I don't just mean those who are poorer I mean anyone who isn't raking in large sums of money. It doesnt' give anyone anything to strive for anymore. And we are projecting this idea onto the youth and attempting to create this horrible equalized society. more

my family decided to change things up a bit this past Christmas. Traditionally the entire family would gather at my Grangmother's house to presents and dinner on Christmas Day. However, all of us grandkids are grown (many of us married with kids of our own now) and have to split our time with the other halves of our families. My husband and I were married and bought our first home last year, so we decided to host dinner for a select number of our family on Christmas Eve to split our time with less running around on Christmas Day (our parents, siblings, very close aunts, uncles, and cousins, and my grandmother). We also included one very close set of friends (my Matron of Honor, her husband, and their son). It was a huge success, and everyone has since been insiting that we make it tradition. Last year we served 21 people. We only planned for 17, but some other family members who were not expressly invited showed up. We paid for everything and I did all the cooking (I enjoy cooking very much and my family loves to eat my food). Our house is a bit small for that number of people, but we made it work. It was enjoyable and we would love to do it again. Though, I want to limit the guest list with out seeming rude, or others assuming they can just just show up. Also, I do not want to include my MOH and her family (and her mother who tagged along last year), but she has already mentioned that she is looking forward to it. How do I exclude some with out being rude? Our home cannot accomodate such a large number of people, plus we are expecting two others that were invited last year, but could not make it to join us. Feeding that number of people a holiday feast (we are Itailian and love food!) isn't cheap, and we likely won't have a whole lot to spend. Do you think that it will be appropriate to ask everyone to chip in a few dollars to help (I'll still do the cooking) since they all agree they want to do this again? I mean, it is almost like we have been volunteered by others to host (which we are happy to do). Thank you for your thoughts? more

I don't feel like I can trust most of the review sites out there, because their top ranked plans are generally completely different, and their reviews of the same services can be polar opposites (leading me to question their integrity). I'm looking to spend no more than $10/month of a cheaper plan. I need PHP5, MySQL databases, email, an included domain, and a script installer. I'm not really into "unlimited" bandwidth/storage at a flat rate fee, because I know if your site expanded substantially, they would cancel your account for using too much resources, so I would like clearly defined limits on the resources which are available to me. Also, It would be great if I could find a reputable host that offers plans which I can upgrade too at a later date, so if the site is consuming too many resources I can upgrade, and know my site won't get shut down. Open Question: What are some things you can do to advertise a host family to foreign exchange students?

My family is trying to host foreign exchange students from South Korea in our house. We have no income, so we have nothing else to do but this. We live in Howard County in Maryland, a #3 rated for its educational system. We want to spark some interest in those exchange students to come live and study here. We tried getting connections through a foreign exchange administering organization in South Korea, but they charge the students 5k and we get 600 per month. So we want to lower that by about 1k and receive the rest of the money; it is cheaper for the exchange student, and a plus for us. But we have absolutely NO way of selling ourselves. I was thinking website, but how can we verify our authenticity without looking suspicious as those computer ads? How can we make these people believe we are trustworthy people? PLEASE WHAT CAN WE DO? Note: We have already had one foreign exchange from South Korea, and he LOVED the experience. But connections that he gives us all say we are too expensive (because they are from a poorer region.) We do have ONE reference though; we just need to spread the word somehow.Ps. I see where you are coming from, but I would just like to state that that my siblings are the ones who are currently supporting our family in terms of income. The reason we can even stay in these parts of the neighborhood is because we can ONLY pay our morgage, electric, water, all living expenses. As for health insurance issues and such, this is all covered in the contract that we sign when they come to our house to homestay. There's even an associated dedicated to making money off of providing a house to stay in to get an education in America, so I'm sorry, but these foreign exchange students do not feel that what we do is terrible, nor do we. I have worked for Tenpin for nearly 2 years and I really enjoy my job as a party host. Usually I get 14 hours a week of work which is the right amount for a student. However, since turning 18 and the other party hosts have left I now work with a team of 16/17 year olds which get paid minimum wage. Since they started three months ago they get all the hours and I've been getting the minimum of 4 hours a week! (This started of as non-fiction. I had decided to write about an old recurring dream I had as a child, and I started getting into it. I decided to run with it. It's based on my actual experience, but it's a bit fabricated. I'd say it's about 90% non-fiction. I haven't changed anything about it from when I first wrote it down, so this is it in it's raw form. What do you think of it? Thanks in advance.) Whenever I was very young, perhaps around 7 or 8 years old, which was 14 years ago, I had a persistent and traumatic dream. I couldn’t tell you exactly why it was traumatic, just that it was. There was nothing eventful that could be named “horrific”, but there was just something about the color, the atmosphere, and the way that their faces twisted as though trying to escape me. I couldn’t bear it. It is a story about how my destroyers came to me. The dream started in a swamp. I was being rowed through a mucky swamp in the middle of the night. I can’t remember for the life of me the face or the figure of whom was delivering me to my destination, I just remember he was relentless and consistent. He could care less about the youngster in the small boat with him. It was none of his business; he just wanted to get me where I was going. It was darker than night, in that swamp. It was nothing like a night where the moon shined across the trees and water enough for you to see things. No, the only thing above us was the choking blackness of nothing. In fact, the only vision I had was thanks to the horrid yellow light shining out from the stained yellow bay windows which appeared to be connected to a room which hung over the swamp water. From that light I could see the surrounding trees, holding me captive in this small area, and the swampy water just below us. It was dreadful water that I didn’t want to meet. I obeyed my captor and allowed him to row me towards the place. How I arrived into the room is such a blur now, 14 years ago, but I remember there was some kind of exchange between me and the tall, lanky men. There was no expression or emotion from them; at least not obviously. But I could feel an impending hatred from them. I’ll recall to a moment a little further where my memory is more intact. I had arrived in the room; the one with the yellow stained bay windows. The room looked as if it hadn’t been refurnished in a hundred years. It had an old record player up against the left wall when facing the windows. It had very fine carpet, which hosted the entire room. The room was lit up with dim yellow wickedness. I remember that dreadful color every day of my life. I cringe whenever I see anything in resemblance. Also along the walls were bookshelves and desks. In the center, nearest to me was a cheap wooden table with lots of contractions that I couldn’t understand, yet I was drawn to them somehow; as if they were calling to me from another time. Farther into the room, facing the bay windows, there were two fancy comfort chairs. In between them was a fancy liquor table. As I was pushed into the sight of the two armchairs, I quickly realized that they were not vacant. I looked up at them, terrified. I saw one man whom I did not recognize, and another whom I did. One man was my grandfather, Dean Hebert. I have no idea what he was doing here. I had never seen him as a child (as far as I can remember), and I had no affiliation with him. He frowned at me with displeasure, and the other man whom I did not know was grinning with pleasure. This is all I can remember of this terrifying event. Looking back, I suppose there was some kind of bargain between the two of them; or at least that is what my demons wanted me to think. I have explored this for many years, hardly ever trying to make sense of it. What I’ve really been striving to do is to return to this place in hopes of finding answers to another question. God? What did these demons want with me? I’ve found that my search has brought them out on entirely new levels. This experience is no longer a dream, or some kind of illusion, but real. They are manifested in reality, and in incomprehensible ways, as they always have. more

In almost one month, I will turn 16 (yay!) I am only going to invite 3 of my closest friends because I want to keep it simple, but I want it to be fun and memorable. You don't turn 16 every day! I just saw the show 'Inside Edition', and they had people on who said that the show paid them money to pretend to be the cheaters and the spouses of the cheaters. One woman said they paid her "$500" when she was 19 years old to pretend that she was cheating on her man. They even tried to force her and her male actor to really get sexual with each other, but she said that she didn't want to so they faked that part too. They gave her booze she said, to get her in the mood. Another woman said that she was paid just "$350" to pretend. ('Cheaters' sure was cheap! Those people taped for 2 days sometimes!) . Then people said that the host Joey, was never stabbed on the show. That was staged too with fake blood, fake ambulance and everything. And when they went to question Joey, he said that he couldn't say. And the guy who was asking him questions said, "you can't tell me if you were really stabbed or not? Why not? What hospital were you in, where are the police records on it? The police have no records on this" LOL. I knew that show was BS! I tried to tell people who I know that swore that it was "real" LOL. Resolved Question: Anyone know any good webstore host sites?

I am using freewebstore right now as my web-store host, and go daddy as my domain, but Are there anyother web-store host out there that are cheaper than freewebstore. I have to pay $9 a month to to have 50 products listed. I'm looking for a site that will hopefully let me sell 50+ with a year rate instead of month(or something cheaper) as well as a paypal hooked up system, and security so buyers can purchase products safely without having to worry if their credit card code got out there. Thank you sooo much if you can help. If not I guess I'll stick with "freewebstore".$9 only allows me to have 50 items and not so safe security. (I need full security) more

i have wat i think could be a good idea for a web/share site i was wondering how to go about it, i know i have to get a domain name and build a website. i have figured how to get the domain name but am not sure where to start on web hosting and site building. also once i have built the site how do i go about spreading the word, is there free methods of advertising? i have very little money to spend on a project like this but am wondering if it can be done for free or relatively cheap more

I have an idea for a site, and recently became a stay at home mom, meaning I have patches of time I can work on it. I would like to be able to blog, receive comments on the blog; host a forum of members where they can start their own posts and receive responses from other members, like a message board; and sell products in a small "store." Any advice on how to go about this would be helpful. I would necessarily need to do this as cheaply as possible as I have no guarantee this site will make money, besides my little family is operating on a reduced budget to keep me at home with the kids. Resolved Question: Am I the only mom in the world who doesn't go 'Organic' or follow baby trends?

So it seems I am an old-fashioned thinker or something. I read What to expect along with a lot of other baby books, magazines, and internet sites, and frankly- I don't follow the trend. I use a crib bumper, I don't do baby wear. I tried to breastfeed but it didn't work out, so I use formula. I don't buy organic ANYTHING (unless it's on sale and cheaper than what I usually would get- but that has yet to happen). I use disposable diapers, and i do a host of other things that would probably make most mommies cringe- like not wash a brand new outfit before putting it on baby! I have 4 cousins that have babies, and they do everything by the book... Everything from buying all the 'right' baby essentials, to making homemade baby food. Cloth diapering, organic clothes, wipes, food... for petes sake, one of them posted an article about how Johnson & johnson products are unsafe and contain formeldyhide! *sigh* So ranting aside.. is there anyone.. ANYONE who is like me and loves and takes care of their children, uses common sense, but doesn't follow the trends or the hype? Please tell me I'm not alone!I guess I should explain.. it's not that I am against anything per se, it's just i have chosen wheat I think works best for my family, and most of the time, what I think is best isn't what the 'experts' believe is best.
