Domain Name Renewal Questions asked
Open Question: I have my own domain hosted by 34SP.com which is up for renewal. I'm thinking of moving to a different SP?
does anyone have any recommendations? Also - how easy is it to take a domain name from one SP to another and keep all the things like mail addresses intact? moreOpen Question: I fired my web designer but she wants paid for renewing my domain name early. What's your opinion?
I found out a while back my web designer had my domain name registered under her name. From everything I've heard that is unethical. Also, I was always very confused about her billing and kept asking why I was being charged so much more than expected. She actually responded by telling me off in email. At one point she mentioned being "stuck" with her. I've wanted out of this relationship for years. At the end of February she informed me my domain name was scheduled to renew March 3rd. I wrote back that I "needed to ask her some questions and would contact her soon". On the renewal due date, I decided not to renew and informed her such, and that I didn't want her to continue hosting for me. I stated I would send her my final hosting payment. She wrote back instructing me to add another $20 for the domain renewal since she "had already done that on my behalf". So basically she renewed it early without my permission. I asked if it was in my name, and she said she would transfer it for me if I have another designer in the future. I replied that I would pay for the domain renewal if there weren't going to be additional "transfer fees", and I wanted to finalize our business now. She replied that she would transfer it AFTER I paid. I asked a second time if she planned any fees for transferring, and how long a transfer would take. She hasn't responded. I feel like these are reasonable questions that deserve an answer? Should I go ahead and pay her for renewing early and trust her to transfer it, or just go with a new domain name and forget it? moreVoting Question: Buying a domain name, when after the renewal date expires can you then buy it yourself if it is available?
I have my eye on a domain name but the problem is, is that I am unable to contact the person who owns it. But have noticed it has not been used for a few years. The renewal date is about to expire. Any help on how to get the domain name would be of great help. many thanks Duggy moreVoting Question: Is it possible to change who your domain name is registered with?
I know you can change the hosts of your domain but is there anyway i can transfer the annual renewal from one company to another? It's ok as it is but each year i have to log on to another companies hosting site to pay the renewal and i'd just like it at the same place as the hosts where i pay my monthly fee. moreResolved Question: Domain name renewal help!?

Been trying to come up with something for months along the lines of "peopleofwalmart.com". Finally came through and have an excellent idea and the domain is genius and not taken. Getting ready to buy my domain, etc. and hoping to get some tips from anyone on how not to get ripped off (ie: when the year is up/renewal). Bonus points: the cheapest hosting, etc. I mainly want to just buy the name before anyone steals it or possibly thinks of it.not sure what you are saying here... anyways, i've done a search for my domain and it's open... do i need to worry about the big 4 stealing it from me? are there laws against this? moreResolved Question: Why does yahoo allow some articles to have comments while they don't allow other articles to have comments?
For instance this article http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/091124/entertainment/palin_marg_delahunty Will not allow comments. Why not? I'm sure a lot of people would like to comment on this. There seems to be a double standard at yahoo. Another beef I have with Yahoo is their domain names - Don't ever get a domain name through Yahoo, it is so difficult to get a hold of them, taking over 45 minutes on hold on the phone, and they charge $35 to renew which is totally outrageous. Luckily all my email accounts are now with google and for domains I only pay 7 bucks for renewal at GoDaddy. moreResolved Question: I just transferred my domain name to Godaddy?

Someone didn't like my answers, so now my account is history. No big deal right? Who needs Yahoo Answers anyway? Except my entire Yahoo account is now wiped off the face of the earth. That means no email (I had the account for 10+ years). Most importantly, I now have no way to manage my registered domain names for which I am paying Yahoo yearly. Any suggestions on how to get this resolved? At minimum I need access to my domain names. BTW if someone from Yahoo is reading this, you guys really screwed up here. Burning a 10+ year customer who is paying you HUNDREDS of dollars per year in domain name renewal fees??? That's real smart.Edit: I need an email contact. The answers guys repeat the same thing over and over, "your account is suspended...". Kind of a joke to suspend the account of someone paying you money. Basically I need a support email from someone else at Yahoo, not these Answers bozos. moreResolved Question: Internet glitches....What does this mean?

I have a Business and I had a website through a computer Business and they say that the website address was not renewed and some one else bought it, the problem with that is that I had the domain name on automatic renewal with my credit card, on my credit card I received the bill for the name being renewed, so my question is who is it who is responsible for fixing my website? the credit card company that billed me for the name, or the computer Business that is supposed to host it? moreResolved Question: i dont have access to renewed domain information ie user name and password , to access www.kbspakistan.org?
I renewed my old domain www.kbspakistan.org on 27th July which was expired in June. I charged it to my visa card. The website (domain) is renewed in my name but I did not get any renewal email in my personal yahoo malibox, shaukat48@yahoo.com, which was previous used for this domain. The website is not accessible. I do not have its userid and password. I am not able to access any help through small business help site as there is no record showing or linking that website to my personal email. Hi, I'd like to try registering a domain name for myself - I want to set up my own business eventually and would like to play around with web design before I dive into the deep end. I'm willing to pay nominal costs like web hosting and domain name registration costs but would like to do the rest by myself. However, I'm at GoDaddy registering a domain name - so domain names are registered for a certain period (like one year?), what does that mean? What happens during renewal time? Do I pay the same costs? Or is the domain name more expensive, less expensive? moreResolved Question: DIY domain name renewals?
My domain is up for renewal in a little over a month. Is there a way to renew my domain name for cheap, or do I have to pay the price my current host is asking? I see all these specials for like $1.99 registrations but I think that entails switching hosts. I was looking for a DIY way if possible.Too bad. I was hoping I could do the paperwork myself and forgo the fee. Thanks for the answer. moreResolved Question: Need Help With a Professional Email?
I am emailing a person about possibly buying their domain name that is not in use. I need help with making the content sound professional, and well thought out. It's fairly short, so there won't be much editing. I'm taking general suggestions, but typing the sentences the way you think they should be will help me more. The most complete answer gets best answer. Here is the email in its current form. -------------------------------------- Dear John Doe, I am inquiring as to the status of the domain name www.website.com. My company is interested in purchasing the domain if it is not currently in use. Visiting the site suggests that it is parked, pending renewal, or has expired. If you are interested, you may contact me by email or telephone. Thank you for your time. We hope to be doing business with you soon. Okay here is the deal. I was on a forum the other day and I have a PayPal account with just over eleven dollars in it but it is limited to sending $0.00 so it is almost useless unless you have a credit card. It was of no use to me so I put it up saying I would give it to someone if they renewed my a domain name (.NET). Someone came up and said they would do it. I gave them my account name and password and they renewed it all fine and I gave them the account. However now I find out they used a STOLEN credit card to buy that domain. The owner of the website told me I was reported to my local police dept. Whether he did that or not I do not know. I am 15 can I be held liable because the account information was mine at the time of renewal with a stolen credit card? moreResolved Question: buying an old domain name?
While reminiscing the other day I stumbled along an old site I used to visit daily a few years ago. It has been left to disintegrate and A lot of the images and links no longer work. The domain name is near it's renewal date I just wondered if it was to go overdue and I wondered if I was to buy the domain would the original owners have any claim on it after the fact? obviously I wouldn't use it to pursue a similar business it was originally use for. any advice would be gratefully received moreVoting Question: when will a domain name become available?
i want a certain domain name which is taken but says this Registered on: 12-May-2007 Renewal date: 12-May-2009 so surely if they'd renewed it it would say, so i'm presuming they haven't, just wondering when it will become available again?and do you think i should pursue a different domain name or wait for this one to see if it's been renewed or not? moreResolved Question: My web host took payment for, but failed to complete, renewal of my .co.uk domain name.?

Hi there! On friday (17th April) I got fed up with Mr Site with whom I still had another 111 days before renewal time left, and decided to transfer my domain name to 123Reg.co.uk I did this and decided that I would also like 123Reg.co.uk to host the site. Grand....so I signed up for that too. I am designing my website on iweb09 and publishing it via FTP to the hosting site (it has checked the connection and my files are all uploading fine) but when I go to check my site it says page cannot be displayed, or if I actually type in the address it takes me to my old Mr Site version (Which is looking cr*p). The site address is www.moojidesign.co.uk I have also gone onto my control panel at 123 Reg and pointed the domain at the host. Is this all I need to do and I just need to be more patient? Or have I messed up big style!!?? If someone clever out there could let me know that'd be grand! I am working on a Mac using Cyberduck as my FTP. I am pretty clueless if you couldn't tell, so any help in language I can understand would be welcomed! Thank you all so much in advance. J xxHi there! Thank you so much for all your help! ;-) I think the IP address is still wrong, but I don't know how to change it?? It is not a high priced domain, or one that is particularly desirable, so this isn't a question about how I should try to win the auction, but I am a bit confused about the process, specifically how much you end up paying in terms of membership fees just to bid, a renewal fee that you seem to have to pay GoDaddy as soon as you win (if you win), and what effect the fact that it is an entended auction has. The site says "Auction will extend an additional 2 minutes after the last bid". Does this mean that people can continue bidding indefinitely, until someone gives up? When you buy a domain from a company like this, I think it's really expensive - and wondered if there is just a one off fee, or if the renewal will be expensive too? I've already posted this once. I signed up last year and am receiving renewal notices from other services for my yahoo domain account. When will my original credit card be billed for the yahoo web site renewal and at what cost? moreResolved Question: How do I increase my chances of getting a domain name when it comes up for renewal?
There is a domain name that I would like, but it is currently active and comes up for renewal soon. I am not sure whether the people concerned will want to renew it or not, but aside from contacting them, is there any way I can increase my chances of obtaining the domain name before it gets snapped up by someone else? For example, when should I apply for it - on the day that it is up for renewal? moreResolved Question: If I register a domain name, am I always offered first refusal on its renewal ?
Say I regsiter for one year, when renewal time comes up (say November 2009), am I guaranteed to be offered the oppurtunity to renew at a (predetermined) price ? Or is it possible that a) someone else could register it for the period after November 2009, so when my renewal time comes up they coudl hold me to ransomsaying "if you want to keep using this domain name you must pay me $1,000" b) the domain regsitrar could see my website doing well and charge me an increased fee ?Thanks. So it seems once I register a domain name its mine until I decide to not renew it (or forget to renew it) moreResolved Question: How can I buy an expired domain name?
I've just been looking for domain names that are appropriate for my work. My ideal .co.uk domain is taken, however when I checked the WHOIS register, it was registered on 28/02/02, last updated on 15/11/07 but the Registration Status is now at 'Renewal Required' as re-registration was due on 29/02/08. Is there any way that I can purchase this domain or is there a period of time in which the current owner is allowed sole opportunity to re-buy the name? moreResolved Question: For non-religious christians and/or creative minds: Need help with Web site name.?
I've been watching and waiting for this one domain to expire called "religionsucks.com" but I think its annual renewal is on auto-pilot and the owner doesn't even seem to know it. I'm looking for ideas for a similar name. The main concept of the site is to distinguish between true biblical christianity and religion. The secondary concept is to inform the reader that no religion gets people closer to God and that there is no one true "religion" (meaning people need Jesus Christ, not religion). I'm hoping the site's name will be similar to "religionsucks.com" and will have a shock value that compels people to check it out. Thank you.Ok, to answer some of your questions, a non-religious christian look like...well, like Jesus Christ. Most religious foke hated him because he didn't follow their traditions. Great answers some of you. Thanks. moreResolved Question: Personal website building 101: registering domain names; free/ paid hosting; how to build a website?
Hello! I'd be grateful for advice... I purchased a domain name with bravenet.com I also have free hosting with bravenet. I would now like to build a personal website. However, I do not like bravenet's templates or website builder. Could someone tell me: * What is free hosting and what does this provide? (there are ads with bravenet) * Am I tied into being hosted by bravenet because I purchased my domain name via them? * Will I have to re-purchase the domain name via bravenet on renewal? * Can I move away from bravenet- and what can I move and how do I do it? * What elements can I move and why should I consider this? * Is it better to pay for hosting? * Any suggestions as to good, reasonably priced hosting companies? * Can anyone suggest a good way of building a website (either with an online website builder or with easy-to-learn web design functions as I am a web design total beginner)? Thank you. Scotty moreVoting Question: Where can I conduct legal research on domain names and intellectual property?
I have a situation where a client has decided they don't want to pay their bills. I'm the legal registrant/owner of their four domain names, and they're coming up for renewal. I'm looking for some place that I can do some legal research, to find out if it's legal for me to renew the domain names myself, then lock them down until the bill is paid. Likely, the client will file a lawsuit against me for that, and since don't have the money to afford a lawyer, I need to conduct the legal research myself to assess the risk before I do anything. Can anyone point me in the right direction to conduct research? (I've already checked with ICANN and my registrar, both told me, "go see a lawyer" - which I have no money for). moreResolved Question: Domain Name Renewal with another Registrar?
