Open Question: how to access webservers using domain names?
so I have a webserver under build with a static ip address assigned to the router ,(project need to be done on my own hardware not reseler account ) The router is configured to forward internet requests to the webserver. Now I would like to host multible websites (Example 100 websites) web pages are saved on HDD Now assume I bought 100 domain names from (Lets say Yahoo ) I want each domain name to point to its own website c:\WebPages\webOne.\ so when a user types the domain name (sherzema.com) in their web browser they can access that specific site and when another enters freedomebla.com he can access another website on the same webserver I heared you can share hundreds of sites on one static IP I will install some webserver software (appache)on a windows based system + dns server how do I link the domains to the sites on the web server can that be linked using the http://192.168.178.90/files I donot know exactly how that happens moreOpen Question: If i wanted to host a website on my server, but use a godaddy domain?
I want to host the website on my server at an office, but I also want the domain tied to this... So if I hosted a domain name with godaddy, would I have to set up my own name server as well? Or could i just forward request to my server? I saw there was a forwarding option in the guide, however I don't know if its the greatest thing to forward users directly to a public static IP... Any suggestions/how-to's? Thanks! moreVoting Question: What IP address should I use to direct my domain to?
Yesterday I got a static IP address, When I got it I went to a website that shows you your IP address so I put it in the search bar and it directed me to my router but then today I type it in nd it brings me to my web server, but then I also type in my IP4 address and it comes up my web server I forgotto say that I have a domain name set up, I don't want a sub domain from another website, my address is at the bottom of this article, what I want to know is what IP address should I forward the A record to? The one at the site were it tells your your IP (which before I got my static ip sirected me to my rourter) or the IP4 address which also directs to my server.. I have set it to be forwarded so I dont get why its doing this. moreResolved Question: Will a new domain which points to my existing site show up on Google?
G'day All, I have an existing website for my business and I thought I could increase traffic by purchasing some domain names and pointing those to my existing page. The idea is, I use some of the keywords which get me a lot of impressions on Adwords, make domains out of them and hopefully improve my page rank on google. eg. current site: saffaicecream.com (not real!) keyword: ice cream south africa new pointing domain: icecreamsouthafrica.com --> saffaicecream.com Will google allow it? what shows up in the description of the site if the domain is forwarded? Thanks!the page has been up for 10 months and on some keywords performs very well. with regards to the keywords i'm looking at, it ranks anywhere between page 6 and page 106 on googs. some of the keywords are very competiive, thus the poor ranking, but are very relevant to my site and appear several times on each page. imagine a business that outsources IT proffessionals in Qld, but when you goog "IT professionals qld" you get 100 pages of employment ads seeking IT pros in Qld. so would itproffessionalsqld.com (example) pointed to my site, improve the ranking. moreVoting Question: Help with GoDaddy domain and Google Sites host?
I bought a domain name from GoDaddy and want it to forward any 'requests' for my domain, let's say it's www.domainname.com, to go to my Google Sites page. Hi guys, a few years ago i registered with office live and they asked me what domain i wanted etc..... i chose a .com domain name if someone enters that url they get the crappy office live basic website i did in 2 mins when i registered. I have now had a site developed and is at the same address but the .co.uk (i.e. mycompanyname.com is on office live and mycompanyname.co.uk has a good site uploaded) i currently use office live for my email me@mycompanyname.com and access it just by signing into hotmail. I have alot of emails in there that are important and need to keep so i can't transfer my.com to a new host without loosing my email account (i think) So i would like to keep my office live account as it is but need the .com url to forward to my .co.uk url Please help! So far the only thing i have found is a code to enter into the search engine optimization tab of office live that lets people see the .com for 5 seconds and then changes to the .co.uk I need it to forward instantly just like it would if you forwarded a domain with your host / registration provider. Please help@ b - the address is not important. i do not use a co.uk email address, i use the .com address that is why i would like the good website viewable when people enter the .com address. The website was designed for the .com domain but it is just impossible to upload it to an office live server. My initial question is correct.@mike - i asked HOW to do it with a domain that is registered through office live. I am aware of what i would be able to do if i was able to point the nameservers at my hosting account. i would like to know how it is done. moreResolved Question: Is this a job scam? Please read carefully...?
In the month of September 2009, I was looking for job and I came across an employer named Spectrum (having contact e-mail address "*****@hotmail.com") which deals with computer products and who had a vacancy of representative. He emailed to me that my duties are to collect payments from clients of his company and I'll be receiving calls from customers whom I had to tell about the company. Now I received $1000 in the form of American Express cheque as a client's payment to the company and I needed to forward it to a certain address. The employer asked me to sign on those cheques and get them cashed and deduct my 10% commission and forward them to that address. I fortunately did not sign those cheques due to which I found them to be UNAUTHORISED. This is not the situation I'm asking if it is a scam as I know it IS a scam and I'm sure they were related to some criminal groups. This month, again a company named Adexec (having contact e-mail address *****@adexec.com) which deals with advertisements has the same job offer and wants me to do the same thing. Now is this a scam company with scam job? because the domain name of the email address is what the name of company. Can you help me trace out??? Note that they are not asking me to deposit any money to them. Should I take up this job? moreOpen Question: How do I set up my Yahoo domain to publish to my MobileMe account via iWeb / Mac?

Last week I made a free website at sites.google.com/site/examplesite Now I have purchased a .com domain (from another Domain name company, not Google) and am using frame forwarding to allow visitors to examplesite.com to view my webpage, without showing them the original long URL (sites.google.com/site/examplesite). Now how do I get examplesite.com to show up in Google Search instead of sites.google.com/site/example site? moreResolved Question: Can somebody please help me wrap my head around making a publicly visible domain?
Okay. I have a a bunch of servers (10) and a static IP address, and I need to make ALL of the servers visible to the world. The system so far: Host machine which has a public ip address on the one side of things, and a private IP address on the other. 10 Virtual machines each performing multiple functions (meaning no, I can not just use port forwarding, ay any time 3 or more systems may need the same ports.) A Bind9 Name server with what I think are correctly configured zone and PTR records. Only.. It doesn't work. My question is. How does one make a full on domain with multiple LAN side machine visible to the greater internets. I thought the answer was Authoritative DNS... I appear to be wrong. Any takers? moreResolved Question: How can I test & compare 2 or 3 domain names so I can choose the one that will get the most traffic?
I have several parked domain names and need to pick one. Can you recommend a way to test them against each other to see which one gets the most clicks? I'd be willing to spend a few bucks on Google Adsense, but it would violate their terms of service to use a forwarded domain name. Is there something similar that would work for this purpose? Or is there a forum you can recommend that would be likely to have this kind of expertise? Thanks for any help! Thanks, Buller. A poll would give me opinions, and that might be useful, but what I really want to measure is click behavior, which might be pretty different from opinions. One thought is to use the different domain names as the titles of free reports and see how many responses I get to each one. Or maybe there's a Pay Per Click option other than Google where people can actually click on the different domain names and I can see which ones get the most clicks. I'm looking for a method that's been tried and tested and isn't terribly expensive, although I'd be willing to pay for some PPC if I can figure out a way to use it. I got the idea from the book The Four Hour Work Week by Tim Ferriss. He used PPC to select his book title. I want to figure out a similar way to select a domain name. Anyone else have a suggestion? moreVoting Question: For SEO - Multiple websites? Or Forward all to main site?

Hi. I have a home router with (obviously) a dynamic IP. If I were to deploy a router (perhaps in the DMZ or via port forwarding), how do I configure it and a dynamic DNS service, so that I can receive email via my domain name, via MX records pointing to my server (sending will be authenticated SMTP to my ISP's server, I assume) and also that Web access will point to my home server also? I am not sure what to do because obviously the IP address will change, and yet all the A name, C name, MX records stuff use IP. Or *must* I use a fixed IP and there is no way to use dynamic IP for this stuff? moreResolved Question: How do I add my domain name to my website?
I've got a website (free hosting) and I'm about to buy a domain name. What I don't get is how to set it up so that when someone goes to www.mydomainname.com they get to my site? I know you can use web forwarding, but from what I understand that puts your domain name in the address bar, but if someone goes to my contact page the url won't be www.mydomainname.com/contact.htm but will always stay www.mydomainname.com Are there any other considerations? Search engine optimisation? Thanks! moreResolved Question: forward my domain to another website?

I used to have a domain through Auctiva. I purchased it for about $8 per year. It did not include hosting (it pointed to my at-the-time-free Auctiva hosting account), so there was no monthly cost. It did, however, allow me to forward email. For example, if I bought www.boughtdomain.com and you sent email to someone@boughtdomain.com, I had it set up so that anything @boughtdomain.com forwarded to my hotmail address. Auctiva is no longer free, and I'd rather buy a domain directly than buy it through another service (so I can maintain control of the domain). What is the best place to do this, at a yearly cost of less than $15 per year (preferably $10)? moreResolved Question: What is DNS Tunneling and how do you do it?????????
I hope this will help every one with the question of how to bypass this block or how to unblock this... or I need a proxy to view this... TCP-over-DNS tunnel software HOWTO Q: How do I get free internet where I should have none? A: Use tcp-over-dns tunnelling software. We'll show you how. How it works DNS stands for "Domain Name System". The purpose of DNS is convert a domain name, such as "analogbit.com" to an ip address, such as "208.113.168.166". The interesting thing about DNS queries is that they are usually recursive queries. This means that if a server doesn't know the answer for a domain name, it is allowed to ask other servers for the answer. So while a firewall or restrictive ISP may filter regular internet traffic they probably overlooked DNS traffic. tcp-over-dns diagramtcp-over-dns diagram Hexdump of tcp-over-dns packetHexdump of tcp-over-dns packet The tcp-over-dns client will encode data in an address and sends that out to the ISP's dns server. The ISP's dns server then realizes it cannot answer the question, so it forwards it onto the tcp-over-dns server. The tcp-over-dns server decodes the client's data from the address and encodes the server's data in the answer that is sent back to the client. There are many things working against the efficiency of the tunnel. There are certain restrictions about what characters may be in a domain name (a-z, A-Z, 0-9, hyphen) so data is converted into the appropriate character set before transmission. The server's answer to a query also has many restricted characters, so it too must do the same thing with a different set of characters. Every query that is answered by the DNS server must also include the question in the response. The combination of these restrictions means the total data transmitted is not very efficient compared to the number of bytes actually sent. Requirements 1. An internet connection that has been intentionally crippled by the connection's administator. A candidate connection will filter normal internet traffic, but it will allow DNS queries through. You can tell if it will work if when you ping a server you can get its IP address but all ping/tcp/udp packets are lost. 2. Server under your control where you are the root or administrator user. You need to be able to set up a server to listen on the DNS port (port 53). This can be a machine you are running at home, most (all?) ISPs do not filter dns traffic. 3. A domain name that you can use to direct queries to your server. 4. tcp-over-dns server and client software, as well as a functional Java Runtime Environment. It's free! Step 1 - Set up the domain First you need to point the domain to the location of your server. If you want to squeeze out a few more bytes per query, try to keep the domain name as short as possible. Ultimately we need two DNS records. One that says that there is a name server for *.dnstunnel.domain.com. The next record says where you can find the ip address of the aforementioned nameserver. Method 1: If you have direct access to the the DNS record you can add something like this to the bottom of it: ;set up the DNS tunnel $ORIGIN dnstunnel.analogbit.com. @ IN NS ns.analogbit.com. ns IN A <server ip> Method 2: Okay, maybe I'm a cheapskate, I don't actually own a server where I can edit the DNS record directly. However I am in luck. Some of my users have brought http://freedns.afraid.org to my attention. You can use afraid.org with tcp-over-dns without even registering a domain name. Set up any two subdomains so they look like this. freedns.afraid.org setupfreedns.afraid.org setup Make sure you replace the A record with the ip address of your server. You can use various clients to update this A record automatically if you ip address changes. Read more about it on afraid.org's webpage. Method 3: Our hosting company lets us edit our DNS record through a web interface. You can do the same thing if this sort of functionality is provided to you. Dreamhost DNS SetupDreamhost DNS Setup Step 2 - Setup the server Download and extract the tcp-over-dns software to the server machine you are using. Choose a port on the server you want the client to be able to access. Currently, there is no authentication, so keep security in mind. This works on any OS that runs java, and both TCP and UDP traffic is tunnelled through, so really any application you wish to use should work. Please note that you need to have a program running and listening on the --forward-port. You will connect to this program through the DNS tunnel. Some of the best choices are: * Proxy server (for basic web browsing) * An openssh server on linux (for controlling the server and also works as a proxy) * VPN server (your computer appears on the home network) * VNC server (for access to your desktop at home) The best choices are either the SSH posorry the bottom got cut off... Am I missing anything? I want to use Drupal for my CMS. Have you found it flexible and workable enough even for newbies? Any tips on creating one's own website are appreciated. I'm looking forward to this project but want to make sure I have the basics in place. I completely realize I'm learning as I go.I want to have my own domain name. I already know a little HTML code but want to use a CMS.The site would ultimately be used to promote my freelance services (in another field--NOT Web). It wouldn't be any ol' personal site. It needs to look professional. I have no set deadline for this, so it doesn't need to look perfect right away. I didn't know Drupal wasn't for newbies.... Even so, it is something I would eventually like to learn.I'm not sure why so many of you are recommending that I NOT use a CMS. If I want the page to look halfway decent--and considering that I only know a smidge of HTML--wouldn't it make more sense? I even read recently that only hardcore programmers nowadays even need to know HTML for building websites. moreResolved Question: How much is a domain name (with relevant key words) worth if I am going to use it as a 301 forward to my site?
There are several domain names out there that contain common key words people would use to look up my site. Some of those key words have 40k+ searches per month. If I buy several such domains, how is it likely to affect my SEO page and traffic ranking? Also, how can I quantify the benefit of such a domain? For e.g. a domain myfirstexample.com comprising of 2/3 key words (my first example) may have 6K global search volume. Is it worth investing in? Hi We have one website at the moment and have bought several other keyword URL's. I want the create individual pages optimized for those keyword terms then direct the Domain (using say frame forwarding) to each corresponding URL/keyword page. those pages with then link to the rest of the website as normal. Hopefully that makes sense. Is this a sensible thing to do? I would prefer not to have to buy hosting for each Domain name but will this way still be 'as' SEO and Google effective. Write a nature/origin myth. The Writing Assignment Read the instructions below for writing a nature myth. Please copiously follow the instructions. You will submit the brainstorming section, a rough draft of your nature myth, and the final copy of the nature myth in lesson 4. First Step The first step to writing a nature myth is creating your own god or goddess. Do not use deities from Classical or any other mythology. Your god/goddess will be the primary character in your myth. You will decide if he/she is the protagonist or antagonist. You will need to have considered the following questions in order to get your ideas gathered on paper. What is the name of my god? What is his or her domain? What is his or her symbol? List the special powers and abilities possessed by the god. Remember that the god you create needs to be entirely your own. You have the perfect opportunity to be extremely creative. Second Step Once you have invented a god, you need to think about what aspect of nature your myth is to explain. You will use the information you developed in step 1 to help you with writing the myth. For example, if your god has the domain of color, then some aspect of color must be a significant part of your myth. You need to refer to your god's name, domain, symbol(s), and specific powers in your story. The subject of your nature myth can explain anything. You may choose to explain aspects of physical nature or human nature. You must connect the subject of your myth to your imaginary deity (the god or goddess you created). You may select from the list below or choose a topic of your own. how clouds are created why grass is green why we have rainbows why we have mountains why we have oceans why we have morning dew the creation of icebergs why evergreens are always green why geese migrate in a "V" pattern jealousy snow earthquakes Note: The choice is up to you; you do not need to select from the list above. Third Step Before you begin brainstorming and getting your ideas on paper, it is important to consider the following questions. A myth usually answers several of the following questions about a natural phenomenon. You need to make sure that your myth does as well. What is the natural phenomenon? How was this phenomenon created? Why was this phenomenon created? Who (gods, goddesses, mortals) was involved in creating this phenomenon? When does the myth occur? Where does the myth occur? Fourth Step Once you have responded to the questions above, both in step 1 and step 3, you are ready to begin the written portion of your story. Writers always begin with "rough ideas." The first written work you have of your myth should not be your last. Writing is a work in progress. You must brainstorm first, using the questions above as a catalyst to assist you with developing a plot that is strong—one that contains an exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and conclusion. When I give a written assignment in high school, my students always ask me, "How long should this be, Crampton?" I always respond with, "I don't exactly know." That is a truthful answer. I do know, however, that for a story to be strong, to contain all of the features listed above (exposition, rising action, etc.), and to possess a strong sense of voice, it will be longer than two pages. Use your imagination and creativity, be insightful and ingenious because this is your creation and with that knowledge comes ownership and pride. Impress me; I love to be impressed, and I have no doubt that you can be successful with this assignment. Your myth needs to contain dialogue between your characters. Basically, they need to communicate. When characters speak to each other, the reader gains a greater sense of who they are and much more about the author. Your myth can open in many different ways, but try to capture the reader's interest with the opening sentence. For example, "Once, Hecco, Goddess of light, was resting by a river, saddened by the loss of her only daughter." The reader wants to know what has happened to the daughter? Was she killed? Stolen? What? Your myth must be typed and double spaced, using 12-point print, Times New Roman font. You must also have a brainstorming page, where you have responded to the questions asked in step 1 and step 3, along with enlisting your own ideas into your brainstorming. Please have a rough draft that someone has corrected. Corrected means someone has thoroughly read it and made comments regarding your usage, spelling, plot, what the person did and did not understand, etc. This individual is your editor, so to speak. The rough draft may be handwritten if you choose to do so. The final copy must be typed. Happy creating (no pun intended)! I will look forward to reading your nature myth. moreResolved Question: Who offers lowest domain name pricing with free forwarding?

If your current internet provider is Earthlink, AOL, SBC Global and others which provide a homepage; you can easily FTP your own webpage designs as a new homepage created by DreamWeaver, FrontPage or even Netscape Composer. And using a redirection service such as mydomain.com or the forwarding of a parked domain name at godaddy.com, you can easily "mask" the homepage URL with a proper domain name. So in a sense, you have a working ecommerce website disguised as a homepage while still paying your normal monthly Internet provider's access and hosting fee of the homepage. moreResolved Question: Will having a domain forwarded and hosted as an addon domain. How would I go about contacting someone who holds a domain name that I would like to purchase? The domain was created in May of 2008, was last updated in March of 2009, and expires in May of 2010.
