Loopback is fine (127.0.0.1 throws the "It works!" message), I've set up forwarding in the router to direct all traffic on port 80 to my ip. Went to network connections to open up port 80 and check that "web server" was checked. Comcast isn't blocking port 80. Have tried domain forwarding as well, to no avail. Any advice or leads would be greatly appreciated; thanks in advance. more

I have an idea for a website, but I don't want to be the one responsible for collecting client fees and paying our workers. (Too lazy to learn the tax-side of accounting.) Open Question: Using wordpress to design a site that includes affiliate marketing?

I bought my first domain name today through godaddy.com. I then created my first site (or blog) using wordpress. After doing some research I found hostgator to be a better option than godaddy's host service so I went with them. With hostgator as my host I forwarded the traffic from the domain I bought through godaddy to the site I created with wordpress. Did a test and by typing in my domain name into the bar up top... what do ya know, I got to my site! I was happy lol. I still couldn't get to it through the search engine, even when I typed in my actual domain name, but I did that within seconds of signing up so I figured it may not be registered yet. I then signed up with commission junction to start posting affiliate links on my site. After searching around a bit I found a relevant program and decided to sign up with it. Tried to post on my wordpress blog and it didn't work saying they only allow advertising if you have a stand alone wordpress site through one of their approved hosting servers.. or something along those lines. And to my surprise... I didn't see hostgator on the list. Did I just waste the $10 dollars on hostgator or can I still somehow use my wordpress page through their host service and include aflliliate links on it? If so how do I do it? When I was surfing this forum I though I remember people saying you can use a webpage designed through wordpress with any host out there. -Side note, I'm a complete newbie to affliate marketing. Sometimes, when I accidentally type in the wrong domain name for the site I want to go to, it leads to a generic page of advertisements, almost as if it's generated by a computer. For example, when I type in http://www.basicinstructions.com/ with the hope of getting to one of my favourite webcomics (which is actually at http://www.basicinstructions.net/) it leads to a page of advertisements that vaguely have to do with the subject in the domain name, but they're still obviously just generic advertisements. Another example would be at http://www.angryvideogamenerd.com, which has a list of search engine links having to do with video games. I know there are other examples, but they're hard to find unless I'm not looking for them. Is there a term for this kind of web page? more

I would very much like to build a personal website to use as I please: business, school, blogging, what-have-you. The problem is, I'm new to this. I've done some research, but would like some more information, or at least, confirmation on how it all works. On 1-9-10 I did keyword research and pinpointed some domains I wanted to buy. I made sure they were available on godaddy.com, but didn't buy immediately, because I was finalizing my research. Then 5 days later, the domain was suddenly unavailable. This is not a domain someone would normally think of to reserve and it only came about by using different research tools. Internet domains have been around for 15 years or more. I don't think it's just a coincidence that this unusual domain has been available for 15 solid years, then suddenly 5 days after it's searched for in GoDaddy, it's taken. Then on GoDaddy, it now says 'premium domain' for sale: $2,388.00. Is it legal for a registrar to cybersquat and reserve domain names based on user domain search logs?Also, what can I do about this?One more thing: I only searched the .com and .org versions of it and those are the exact extensions of that domain now registered. I would like to start a small technical services firm . My issue is that I would like to start a Spanish version with one name and domain A , and another in English with another name and domain B . Is is acceptable to create an LLC C such that I advertise both A and B , yet operate only as company C ? I don't know what my phone number is (engineer is coming as we have no phone line), i don't know my sign on user name and password, i though i knew but when i go to the virgin web page i cant sign on as i want to activate my web space and set up my outlook for emails. Five years ago I was transported to UCSD hospital from Children's hospital 3 times in San Diego, Ca for treatment of my ALL Leukemia. The first time, one of the drivers named Dustin and I became friends and he visted me while I was still in admission when he was on his breaks and days off. When I got discharged, we exchanged emails and continued to contact each other that way (at that time, I did not have my own personal email). But then something happened to my mom's email account (the password did not work and we tried everything but Cox told us to make a new one) so we did and all the email stuff was in the old account including his email address. I tried asking Cox if they can extract the info from there but told us that they can't. So, I tried calling the admin and the first time I got his last name but was too stupid not to write it down. Now I'm asking all of the Yahoo community to help this girl who has Leukemia and Type 1 Diabetes find her lost friend. All I know is that he works (dunno if he still does) for the AMR ambulance here in SD and that his address is of Yahoo domain and that I'm pretty sure it had the words "surfer" in it and I think "California", and "dude" or "boy". I think he has a number in it too. I know he's white and he has brown hair (dunno much of what kind of color), and he's skinny/alittle muscular somewhat like that I think. I'm hopeful that I will find him, cuz this mis-communication was not our fault, and if I woulda been smart back then, I woulda written down his email, but didn't, so I can't beat myself down when there is still hope.Well I tried facebook but not knowing his last name kinda gave me alot of search results and I kinda don't remember much of what he looks like. But I guess I'll try calling the ambulance people again on Monday. Hopefully I'll get his last name, but I need all the support I can get from anywhere and everywhere. more
