I think that the "terms of use" are a little confusing. Do they really own all rights to the images? I wanted to know if it is legal to use some/parts of the images in art/objects to sell. Does anyone have any experience in purchasing copyright to an old publication or book that is out of print? This book is not in the public domain. It was last published by 3 different companies, Rodale Press in 1972, an unknown New York company also in 1972, and Signet (which I believe is now Penguin Books) in 1973. I don't think the author is still living. However she did sell other books into the late eighties and early 1992, alone and with a coauthor (I can't find any info on the coauthor either). I think the last book published by her had a copyright of 1992, published with Keats Publishing. Is anyone familiar with the process of contacting publishing companies to ask about purchasing copyrights? Since it seems as if this particular book might never be published again? I would be interested in rewriting it, updating it and or adding information to it for possible republishing. If possible to purchase a copyright, what is a reasonable offer on an old book? Her books seem to have made its round among various publishers. So it seems to me that it may be open for another publisher as well. But how does that process work?Thanks Joss! That helps a lot. There's a company that sells a product online that I use on a day to day basis.
