When I send an email from hotmail, especially from the web interface, it INSISTS on including my first and last names in the display. I would like it to just have ONE display name. Maybe a nickname. Lately, several web pages have been showing me web-based ads that seem to know where I live. For example, a web site about home improvements showed me an ad that said, "Find contractors in Littleton." It seems that the ad is pulling the name of my city from some variable on my browser or elsewhere on my PC. Obviously, it's not saying "Littleton" for everybody. I did a View Source on the web page, but there's no obvious reference to any variable. I expect to see something like this when I'm logged in to, say, Facebook. The Internal Revenue Service can make it worth your while. As tax season nears, we all want to get as much money back from the IRS as possible. And while taking advantage of this year's new tax breaks will put some extra money in your pocket, snitching on a tax cheat could make you rich. In a recent poll from the IRS Oversight Board, 13% of those surveyed think cheating is acceptable, up from 9% in 2008. As the recession puts the squeeze on household finances, the lure of fudging on a tax return is even greater. "In a down economy, the temptation to cheat on taxes is much stronger because people are in more desperate situations more often," said Bill Raabe, a tax expert at Ohio State University's business school. More people may be just as desperate to turn in a business, rat out an ex–spouse or report a colleague to collect a reward. Small–time crooks: The IRS's informant program has been around for more than 140 years. If you suspect a person is committing tax fraud and report it, you could receive up to 15% of the amount that has been underpaid, with a maximum award of $10 million. Informants are required to complete a claim, which is available on the IRS Web site, and mail it to the agency or call the IRS tip line at 1–800–829–0433. While you must reveal your identity to the IRS, your name will not be made public. Because there is no minimum requirement for the amount in question, anyone can file a report in hopes of making an extra buck off of a cheating boyfriend or obnoxious neighbor. "You probably get a mix of people with the informant program. You'll have spouses –– or ex–spouses probably –– as well as ex–employees turning in their employers," said Raabe. "But you really have to think, 'is it worth my time to report that guy?'" To weed out the bogus reports from bitter ex–husbands and disgruntled employees, the IRS requires informants to fill out a detailed form and provide intimate information about the tax evader, including the person's social security number, address and date of birth. "That's a lot of information that I'm not sure the average person has available," said Gagnon. "They're kind of asking the person to be a detective or work for them and go hunt all this information down, and I don't know how comfortable people would feel trying to do that." Big cheaters: In 2006, the IRS really started cracking down on big time cheaters and introduced a new whistle–blower program, in which informants are paid a minimum of 15% and a maximum of 30% of the amount owed. But there's a catch: In order to collect a reward, the taxes, penalties and interest in dispute must add up to at least $2 million. And if the suspected tax evader is an individual, his or her annual gross income must exceed $200,000. So far, the new incentives have been effective. The IRS has received tips from about 476 informants identifying 1,246 taxpayers in fiscal year 2008, the first full year the program was implemented. "The program is already attracting an enormous number of quality tips," said Paul Scott, a former Department of Justice trial attorney and current owner of law firm Paul D. Scott, where he represents whistle–blowers. "The volume of claims and/or tips they have been receiving with really substantial documentation or support has increased dramatically since the inception of this program." Scott said that since the new program began, his firm has received claims from whistle–blowers involving billions of dollars in taxes, penalties and interest. Who snitches?: In this program, the most common informants tend to be dissatisfied middle–ranking employees in big companies, said Tim Gagnon, an academic specialist of accounting at Northeastern University. "I think it happens more in middle management than upper management," he said. "They're workers in the middle ranks who feel frustrated about what's going on and are not advancing or don't think they have a shot of moving up, because otherwise, it's hard to break loyalty." I mean, are they really a "pharmaceutical" company who makes something, or are they just a web presence with 3 guys in an office building re-selling Chinese-made sugar pills with fancy labels and bogus claims? I've tried to find a company profile on the web - nada. I've tried to find an estimate of the size of the company - only one website, and it said "1-4 employees". I looked up their address - a suite in a mid-sized suburban office building shared with 6 other companies and an organic food luncheonette. I tried to find any employees of JBNI on LinkedIn or Spoke - nothing. Yet their products are hyped all over the web, and two gentlemen named Walli and Case are quoted pitching the products. If they're a real company, there must be some sort of production facility and some research center and some physicians on the payroll. Where are they? I know some small, private companies that explicitly try to have no profile on the web, and I can find more info on them than I can find on JBNI. It implies no credibility to the drug or to the company, but it gives the company a chance to use the letters "FDA" in their press materials. People can criticize the FDA and conventional medicine all they want, but when I see drugs on the shelves that have passed full FDA approval, at least I can be reasonably certain that the company and its entire product line are not a complete fabrication. Open Question: So confused about this guy don't know if i should write him or not?

So i was talking to this guy, but he lives all the way in Florida he's 21 I'm 18 and he is Puertorican. well see the thing is we had a some what relationship and we talked for like 2months or so and well i couldn't trust him for some reason. even though he seemed so honest i would always find a way to argue with him and make up girls names and say just anything to catch him in a lie and never could and. well the thing i hated most about him, was that he was so controlling like demanding like say he would want me to send him a sexy picture and if i didn't do it he would beg and get mad but i never did thank god i couldn't trust him, with it at all. so he felt like i owed him back because he, actually showed me his penis on web cam it was so tempting but i felt so bad because he wanted a picture of me and i told him if he showed me that i would send him so i never did. and well after he started to say he loved me and liked me so much that he wants to come out here and visit. but i mean i knew it was too good to be true we both cam from the same hood from brooklyn. he looks like he been through a whole lot and wasn't really the kind of guy for me but than again to me it didn't matter. but i just hated that he was just so controlling and always said i love you and i believed it at a point because he, would be with his friends and say it and he would say i don't need to lie to you I'm grown for all that i been single for a year and i get no play out here from no girl. now i find that really hard to believe but than again i always wondered why he didn't get no play and i need really asked him about his life and all that. but so we had got in a big argument like 5 days from now i haven't wrote to him, i haven't called him, and since it's a 3 hour difference every time it's like 10 out here it's like 1 in Florida so he always gets on aim at that time. But i noticed he,doesn't get on at all as much as he used to or even on myspace so i don't know what to really do i don't know if i should talk to him, or not i don't know if he was really lying to me or not what should i do because i was thinking to just leave it alone. But it's funny because if you supposably love someone you write them and go after it and he doesn't at all so what should i do? more

Open Question: Web GUI for LDAP operations.?

I need a web interface for my Help Desk Tech where they can type in a username and search to return a list of users such as search first name or last name to figure out the correct user and populate a small box at the top of the page and then another box below that to type in a user name and click an unlock button. needs to be very simple and run off of their local computer and just connect to ldap and have them authenticate with their own user credentials. I could add the page under a server however it would need to run on windows only in that case. more
