Hey everyone, I already have a website with a domain name. I have dreamweaver CS4 and I am already connected to MySQL and PHP is enabled. The problem is what do I do now. Open Question: I need help, people can't access my website without putting "www" in the address..?

My domain is with Yahoo, and it's hosted by hosting24. When people go to ww.mywebsite.org, it works. When people go to mywebsite.org, it shows somewhat of an error message on a white page with black text. Resolved Question: My ISP blocked a website, but I can still access by modifying host file (please read more)?

entering the website's direct IP or domain name to the address bar wouldn't help. it appears to be blocked. then I called my ISP, they said this website is blocked becoz of company policies. but I open the hosts file, enter the websites direct ip and then enter an "artificial" domain name I made up to map into that particular IP I wish to visit. wolla, the website appears to be unblocked, everytime I enter the artificial domain name I made up, the machine obviously search the hosts file first, once it found out the particular IP mapped into the domain name I made up, it go directly to the IP and stop contacting my ISP's DNS server? does that mean the blockade of this website is ONLY established at the DNS level? is that the reason why? and why if this ISP wants to block this website, it didn't block the whole IP and allow this low level "hack" available? more

I think I really want to start a web page. I'm trying to start off small and inexpensive. I still need to reserve the domain and then I want to create a nice looking page just to offer product and contact information. Short and sweet. If it goes well, I can expand to something fancier later. The problem is- I don't understand how all of the pieces of the puzzle fit together. I've used namecheap.com, but then got confused with the ins and outs of hosting and webpage creation. I've also created a different page using Yahoo! Small Business, so I can muddle my way through the process... but I suspect there must be a cheaper, techno-cooler way to go than Yahoo. Suggestions much appreciated! Hi, I have a website and have set a sub-domain to redirect to my PC where i have another webpage, it works fine except when it redirects it goes from my websites URL to my PC's IP address in the address bar, i used to use a DyDNS to load by site and it kept the URL after the page loaded, i was wondering if there is a way or ways to keep my website URL in the address bar of the browser after redirecting to my PC. My partner and I have been working for the past year and a half developing a marketing system to help promote local businesses in a certain niche market (sorry wont say what the niche is). But when we go to pitch our service we are running into problems. First this is what we do: Basically we have developed a website much akin yellow pages which only caters towards this niche, over the past year and a half we have become highly optimized for almost every category in the niche ranking in the top 3 spots in Google Yahoo and Bing (MSN). (outranking even yellowpages, yelp, yellowbook and others) However we are not only offering a subscription into the directory (which gives the clients more exposure). We build each client a website, they get to choose their domain name, we create a custom classified advertisements to use, and we promote their businesses through Google Adwords, (this is done by having adwords drop the click through onto their listing page on our site.) In addition we give the clients access to a backend where they can track how many impressions their classified ads recieve, how many clickthroughs to their website, and a host of other statistical tools. This is above and beyond yellowpages, in fact many clients we talk to say they spend 150-300 a month on yellowpages and recieve NO results. We have a few clients who are very satisfied with the service, and it has helped them land additional business. In fact for most of our clients, only 1 job from a lead covers a months charge or more, and we only charge $50/mo promotional rate for 6 months then it goes to $80/mo from there. Now here is the problem we face when trying to get new clients.... Many of you may have been cold called and pitched by some internet search engine optimization company that promises that they can get you on the front page of Google for a fee.. Most of those companies are shady and provide no results. For some reason when we start talking to people this is what they think we are doing... when in fact this is NOT what we are doing at all! I'm kind of at a how I can effectively market our service without being confused as one of these shady businesses. Since this is not what we are doing. more

But i change the password from a bunch of numbers under the View details tab in the hosting area for my Cpanel. To something i can rememember. But then when i go to cpanel and enter it in. I have a website being hosted by Fasthosts, on a Linux server, with mod_rewrite enabled. I have my main site, but theres also a feature of sub-domains. I've set one up, and it uses frames to show a folder with the same name as the sub-domain. This doesn't let me do much though, and if I go to anything else after the subdomain it just takes me to the root. e.g. http://x360.arkanes-arkade.co.uk - normal site http://x360.arkanes-arkade.co.uk/sort/e - site with extra details Both of these will take me to the same site. Is there ay way to configure mod_rewrite to append the sort/e parts into the url, so that I can give direct links to pages? Cheers more

Voting Question: How to install Oscommerce solution onto my server/website?

My website is blank at the moment. I was looking for a ecommerce solution and came across Oscommerce. It is a free software and at first looked pretty simple to install. Here is the problem...my hosting tells me to "Upload your web files into the " public_html " directory" - now Oscommerce tells me to "Extract this archive into your document root" - the bad part about it is I have no idea. This is my first website and I am really trying to learn without messing everything up. Ok, I have uploaded and extracted the file to my public html like my server said. Nothing happens - just whole bunch of other files. It says to change the permissions to 755 instead of 644 which from my assumptions I take it that this makes the files executable? So, I did this. Now it says type in your domain name/install in the browser bar and it will walk you through installing. Well nothing happens when I do that just a 404 message. Someone please help me install oscommerce!!! more
