I'm looking for a place to host my application. It's not a standard "web hosting", but I have a program that I need to run 24/7 - connected to the internet of course and all the shabang. My program runs on XP64bit (not supporting server environments so far) and it needs to be on a dedicated managed server/computer which I can install any program I want (my program is actually several programs running together). Of course I need to be able to remote desktop to the computer and transfer files onto it, it needs to be secured, fast and reliable. Oh yeah, I'm on a budget.... ANY IDEAS WHERE TO START? I tried looking in google and similar, but all full of ads and I don't know what to pick. HELP PLEASE moreVoting Question: How can i protect my php source code from being stolen on web servers ?

I probably organized all wrong to begin with and now I am hopelessly confused and in need of assistance to try to straighten things out. I am totally self taught and have fumbled my way around. I just got my 5th domain name from Go Daddy. My host is Pair. I have to decide what to do with this new domain...how to organize the directory, and I have never really understood the whole thing. I don't know if I want Dedicated IP Domain Hosting or Shared. So far I have four domains, all Dedicated, and I don't think that was necessary. None of them have shopping carts, or SSL certificates or anything like that. If the IP is shared, will the url act the same? For instance, say I have: www.me.com www.mysite.com www.yoursite.com www.oursite.com and now the new domain is www.example.com I don't want it to end up as www.mysite.com/example.com So, is it still okay to choose a shared IP Domain? I know, I really need better organization and I think some of these should share a domain if I only understood it. Thank you so much! I probably didn't make myself quite clear enough. I only have one hosting account with Pair. I don't require a lot of bandwidth. They will allow me to choose how I want to organize my domains. I can choose a shared IP domain and there is no additional monthly fee. Each dedicated IP domain does have a monthly fee. So far, I think I will be safe to choose to share the IP. Thank you to all for your fast and great responses! moreResolved Question: How to configure DNS and Windows 2003 web edition?

Im not exactly sure what my best options are?Should I get a private server or a dedicated server? Should I host my own site? Advice please! Thanks in advance moreResolved Question: How do i build my own model WAN?
I've been playing around with the idea for some time. Ok, let me give a little background, and then my intentions. I'm a systems engineer with degrees in programming, networking, and analysis so feel free to get technical peoples. :) I've been researching more and more into security and have been experimenting with fundamental network operations. My goal is to set up my own personal WAN in my lab (in my house) and monitor packet payloads of rudimentary network operations such as dns cache updates, ARP, ns lookups, dn translations, maybe even as far as active directory replication, remote LDAP mods, DHCP, etc... I've got a collection of 9 computers dating back no more than 7 years in my lab that have been set up as DDNS web servers in the past, but i don't need them anymore. I'd like to set up a series of dedicated DNS servers, routers, separate dubnets, a client machine, a couple web servers, and what not on a private WAN all objects running some kind of net monitor to document what goes on, how and when. I'm not sure how i'm going to model these after the real internet. What OS's should i use for each object? I have access to any kind of OEM installer including Server2003 Enterprise, Redhat, Ubuntu, XP-Pro. Non of this model will be connected to the real net, ideally i'd like to try and break my system to try and prevent it at the office. Any advice? Any books, labs or documentation you could recommend? How would you do it? What experiments would you conduct? moreResolved Question: Control my dedicated server?
Hi, since my hosting company that I ordered a dedicated server from takes years to answer, I'd like to ask you guys how can I control the server now ... I got no Control Panel or anything, all they sent me was: -IP -Root password How can I set up game servers and web space now? I'd appreciate your answers. Thanks! moreResolved Question: Should I use RAID 1 or RAID 5 for my Virtual Machine host server (Microsoft Hyper-V)?
I am building a server that will be used as a virtual machine hosting server, using Microsoft Hyper-V as the virtual server hosting OS. The hardware I am using will be a motherboard with capacity for 6 SATA 10,000 RPM disks. I can set them up using RAID 1 or RAID 5. I cannot use a mix of different RAID options for the disks. I must choose either RAID 1 or RAID 5 for all the disks. Which option would be best for performance? I plan to create 10 virtual machines on the system. I know I would have more total disk capacity using RAID 5 instead of RAID 1 (mirroring), but am wondering if there is a benefit to using RAID 1 for the entire system, in regards to general performance. The virtual machines will be a mix of workstations, database servers, web servers, and other systems. The host OS (MS Hyper-V) uses a very small amount of disk space. The a majority of space will be dedicated the various virtual servers running. There is no need to send me links to websites describing RAID (I know about the various general benefits of the different types of RAID). I am interested in hearing from someone who has implemented a RAID configuration when setting up a virtual hosting server and have some good advice regarding which option offers best performance. moreResolved Question: I'm thinking of buying a dedicated server?
I'm thinking of buying a dedicated server to host some game and web servers ... now since i'm not really a pro at this, I'd like to know if these specifications would run great game and web servers ... - 100mb/s connection - 6GB RAM - Intel Quad Q6600 Processor - 160GB HD SATA .... Thanks! moreResolved Question: I am new to servers ?
I'm very new to server platforms, but since a lot of people have been asking me to create web pages for them i figured the easiest way would be to get my own server and host off of it however i'm a newb when it comes to servers and was confused when I was looking for one seeing racks blades and regular ones in desktop cases . I'm unsure of the type I should get but i do know that i would probably be hosting web sites and i made need one if i actually do get my game finished. I do know that any pc has the potential to be a server and i could very well use the one I have but i'd rather a dedicated server. Can anyone advise me of the type of server i should invest in. Also i've been researching on how servers run and i came to find that ubuntu has a server edition but its GUI-less. Would i be able to control everything from my computer even though i primarily run windows (I do have a wubi installation) or say i invested in and used dreamweaver would i be able to upload that to the server and run it, without having to remember a host of terminal lines @ You did what? RTFM! : If I rented a server would I be able to create a mail server and several different/ unrelated web sites? moreVoting Question: who provides the best web hosting? ?

Web Server 5420 2.5GHz (Dual QuadCore) 2x250GB SATA2 (RAID1) 2GB RAM DB Server 5310 1.6GHz (Clovertown, DUAL processor) 2x73GB SAS (RAID1) 4GB RAM moreResolved Question: Whose fault is it, me or the client when doing web site?
Last month my company started work on this person's website which sells awards and trophies. We made a deal with him. It was a $6200 sale for me. On the contract, he didnt want web hosting with us. Let me back up, he wanted to turn his normal website into a e-Commerce website which requires a dedicated server. We run other client's sites on dedicated servers. He refused saying he has sites all on network solutions website and he doesnt want to change hosts. We asked him various times if he is running windows 2003 and dedicated server. Network solutions we later found out doesnt run either. So about a month, we were working on his site which is bs because he didnt So back and forth we were also trying to figure out his name server because he bought his name server overseas which is stupid. Now I had to keep explaining to him why we cant work on his site because he has to have his name server pointing to us and we need his ftp login information so we can upload files to his site. He is so ignorant of all this. Today I called him saying we need to move his site over to our server because network solution doesnt allow us to install sitegalaxy onto network solution. Then he got upset and said " just give us all the images your company has done for us", " we are done working with you , it seems that you guys are not capable of doing the work we asked "...etc I said I will contact him later today. First off, we did finish his site . We gave him access to his own administrative control panel so he can upload the images and files himself. What we are trying to do is turn his site online by replacing it with a site he has now. What we are going to do is trick him by having a redirect routing pointing to our server when he assumes that hes actually going to his server. So whose fault is this? What have we done wrong? I keep telling him that Im just the messenger for my boss and dont blame me because I dont want this to be added to my resume when i find another job in the future. Btw, is market manager worth mentioning in my resume when it has no experience with networking? 1. He did mention he did not want our hosting. We told him that he needs to get dedicated server. He says why not use our network solution hosting we have? We told him its not dedicated because e-Commerce sites need larger space but he kept ignoring and said just use ours. So we just continued work. 2. He didnt pay all. He said once his site is online then he will pay the remaining cost which is $800. Right now, we are trying to figure out how to get his site up and running using network solution's web host which is 100 gigs. We redirect just to get his site up and running and move on. Its giving everyone on our company headaches. Helpful person , let me explain some things to you . First, go back to college and learn to read. We did check network solutions. They dont offer dedicated servers. Period. We told the client numerous times, he still did not understand. We offered him to let us host it since we use dedicated servers, no budge. No, we want to host the site because we do 24/7 backup, free debugging, free antivirus, if anything happens to the site, we can fix it right away. Thats also our maintence combination. Plus, if he has any graphics that needs changing like vacation notice, we can change it for free, no charge. We did find out what operation system they use. Its linux and windows. I told him that he needs to use windows, he says " we'll i'll buy you a windows pro package"..which doesnt help , its not dedicated. His name server is at oznic which is switzerland. We gotten no response from them about this issue as of yet. We are professional. We have over 60+ clients from americasmart.com moreVoting Question: Client FTP t o my Server?

Does anyone have any suggestions on streaming vidoes? I don't have any experience putting videos on my web sites and we are about to be making a lot of instructional videos for our customers. What would be the best way to put these up on the sites? We have a dedicated server. I also am using Adobe Premier Pro CS3. Thanks in advance for any suggestions! Really my question is more about the best way to put streaming videos on a server, not the software to create them with. I have software, Premiere Pro CS3 that creates FLV files and my Dreamweaver will even put a player with the file... I just need to know about the technical portion. I have heard something about the file being stored somewhere else and being called to the site., like I said I don't know what I am talking about so I need some direction. Thanks! moreResolved Question: help i have no idea wat this means some body explain in short text 10 points best answer in plain explantion?

Hi there. I just purchased a clearance server from a dedicated web host. The primary purpose of the server is for web hosting only. I was wondering if more RAM or a better CPU would be best to improve the server's performance. I am not planning on upgrading, but in case I want to, I wanted to know what option woud be best. If so, where would I go about getting a similar (non-shared) server for a similar web site that I am creating? moreResolved Question: Do I need a dedicated server?
I am considering starting a website that will keep all kinds of information about bars and restaurants in my city. There will probably be 200 or so places with reviews about all of them that users can post along with updates of things that are going on and each place on any given night that the bar owners can update. The front page will have a "whats going on this weekend" section and maybe a "bar of the month" or "drink of the week" along with 3 or 4 ads from local bars or businesses. I'm hoping to get 1000+ hits per day and maybe considerably more. What TYPE of web host do I need? if you recommend a web host please dont just list some place you are affiliated with. I need unbiased information. moreResolved Question: What's the difference between web hosting and a dedicated server?
moreResolved Question: Mac Server or PC Server?
All our computers are currently Apple Mac and we are considering implementing a server. As we all use mac, we naturally want to use a mac server. However, in the near future i may decide to move all our website hosting to be hosted by us internally. Do you think we will have problems hosting our own websites, or do you think that we should set up a separate dedicated web server that is then networked to the rest of the system. cheers moreResolved Question: SPF Records for a domain- PLEASE HELP?
I never thought Microsoft is this terrible. I own a web company and we send emails to our clients all the time. Now Hotmail/ Live/ and all Microsoft owned mailing servers are not delivering our emails. When we message them, they say you must register to our SenderID protocol and to do that, you must create an SPF record for your domain. The problem is our provider says they only offer SPF records for dedicated servers and we are on a shared server. What should we do about this? Is it really true that only dedicated servers have SPF records??? I mean, the only way for us to get an SPF record is to get a dedicated server??? I hope that is not the case because dedicated domains are very expensive!!!! moreResolved Question: Drupal web hosting?
I've made a social networking site based on drupal and now i need to find the right hosting for it. The site has a pretty good chance to become very popular, but also a chance to pose no interest. I was thinking of finding a webhosting company from where to buy a shared hosting or vps or something and then upgrade to a dedicated server. My budget for now is 100$, but if the site is successful i can invest more. The hosting must have mod_rewrite and imagemagick. mcrypt and mhash are a plus but not required. What would be the best way to handle this issue and what hosting company do you recommend? moreResolved Question: High Speed Web Hosting!?
Ok i'm looking into a good fast web hosting site. There will be videos and lot of uploading to the site. I don't want to get stuck with a host that has slow response time on load. I also considered powweb.com, but i was reading that when your site starts getting alot of traffic your site delays alot.
