Hello, I am a web designer of sorts and I like to create websites for my self and others. I want to start hosting my websites and my clients websites on my server (so that I can offer more support my clients are not tech savvy and need something fully managed plan). I am an optimist and hope one of my many websites can get high traffic. My websites are designed using php, I am familiar with Apache and Mysql and have had some experience with a virtual dedicated server before. I would like to know the cost of running these such websites and the cost for hardware. I want to run a web server and an a separate sql server. I was also thinking of starting with a used prolient or something along those lines maybe U1 or U2. Any suggestions will be appreciated and welcome. As I said before I am an optimist and want something that is scalable reliable and fast(and cheap too)I plan to run something along the lines of 400 single page websites(could be more with time) and 2-3 more complex with search options and data bases ( the works) with a good UI. hi all i have a simple php form that worked fine with my old hosting server , now i updated my hosting to godaddy (cuz they are cheaper) but after the update, my form doesn't work anymore . I mean the code is 100% right (cuz it worked fine before). Everytime my visitors click the submit button (after they entered their information) a "thank you for submission page appear" but when i check my email (and spam email) nothing actually reach. i tried to use an email related to my domain like contact@MyDomain.com , but this didn't fix it 2. my server operating system is WINDOWS (not linux) and i am using IIS Server (not apache) , anyway it supports php just fine and all works good but the mailto() function. any suggestions ? tips maybe ? helpful links and sources ? anything would be appreciated , i've been with this problem already few weeks and i am really getting tired of this. godaddy support team keep saying that its gotta be something related to code and they have nothing to do with it more

After what seems like YEARS of searching, I think we finally found the perfect venue. Its a YMCA. Now before you judge me, hear me out. We live in upstate, NY, smack dab between Saratoga and Lake George (LG being one of the most popular vacation destinations in the northeast and Saratoga being famous for the race track). We have literally thousands of venues to choose from but all were either too expensive or just not us. In northern LG there is a "resort" called Silver Bay. It is a YMCA in the sense that it offers what seems like unlimited amounts of activities for people of all ages, as well as had lodging on campus (they have a large, quite nice hotel but also dorms and lodges). If we choose to go with this place, we will be having our ceremony close to the water. I dont think much will be needed as far as decorations for this space as the views are gorgeous. I love the look of the shephards hook placed at the end of each isle with a pomander attached ( http://media.theknot.com/ImageStage/Objects/0003/0050486/large_image.jpg ). I plan to make these myself using carnations. Carnations get a bad rep but if used right, they can be quite lovely. We are both as far from religious as a couple can get so it will be a very quick ceremony. I'm thinking about asking a cousin who I am very close with to get ordained and marry us. If that doesnt work out, we will just hire a JOP. Silver Bay offers a few different choices as far as catering. All of their banquets are buffet style. They have a more traditional dinner menu (beef, chicken and fish) but they also have what they call the "Upgraded BBQ". Basically its BBQ ribs, chicken, corn on the cob, baked beans, baked potatoes, tossed salad & strawberry shortcake (I'm hoping to get a slight discount since we wont need the desert). They offer this for $21.00 ($10.50 for kids). The traditional dinner is twice as much. This venue doesnt supply the alcohol but we are permitted to bring our own. We pay a per-person per-hour charge for the alcohol because their servers will serve the guests their alcohol. I'm totally okay with this charge because this way, the guests have no idea that we supplied our own alcohol. My fiance also assures me that this will be considerably cheaper than having an open bar through the venue. We are leaning towards the BBQ option. We are planning on getting married memorial day weekend 2011. I personally think that a BBQ reception on that specific weekend is definitely suitable. The wedding site is atleast an hour drive for pretty much everyone, so we assume that a number of the guests will probably stay the night. They resort will even host a private bonfire for us and our guests. I figure we will purchase a bunch of smore making supplies and hopefully we will have some beer left over from the wedding. I think this would give us the perfect chance to relax with those nearest and dearest. They also offer a brunch banquet option for pretty cheap. If the budget allows maybe we will arrange this for the guests who decide to stay (we will know ahead of time since they will have to make reservations). How do you think this sounds? My fiance and I arent really high maintenance people. We would be just as happy staying home and having burgers on the grill as we would going out to a nice restaurant. The reason I ask if you think I will be disappointed is because for the longest time I wanted the big formal sit down dinner reception with white gloved servers. Well, then reality hit and I realized that there was no way we could afford this on our own. It is important to us to pay for our own wedding. Neither set of parents is overly wealthy but would give what they could. We're successful adults (only 23) who can afford to pay for our own wedding (within reason). If we wanted to take money from my parents, we could afford much more but I am a firm believer that unless you are 19 and still living in your parents house, you are an adult and should be responsible for covering the cost of your own wedding. I am secretly hoping that my parents buy my wedding dress but it would be okay if they dont. What do you think of the idea for our wedding? Think I'll be disappointed after the fact that I didnt go with the lavish, formal affair. Sorry this is so long. Thanks for the input. more

There is already a ready network of ready contributors into this database, and--at its peak--I'm currently expecting about 1,000 INSERT queries a minute. My current solution involves a MySQL database with matching php scripts. The current structure is as follows: There are three databases: DB1: Holds only the current week's data. DB2: Holds all data DB3: Backs up DB2 Every Saturday, a cron job runs a php script which does the following: 1) Export all the data in DB1 to a csv file and save the file locally on the server. 2) Add data in DB1 to DB2 3) Order data in DB2 by the tick's timestamp 4) Back up DB2 to DB3 5) Delete data in DB1 All of the above used to run on a shared host, and--as expected--I hit the limit of the unlimited service. Hello, I am looking for a web hosting provider to host my web site, and also to provide me with a domain name. My web site will only have about 3 or 4 page and will only be about 1MB in total, therefore I only really need a basic package. It will have no programming or server code, it will only have basic html and css. I have look at various web sites, and found that 1and1 is very cheap but I have read very bad reviews about it. It is only £1.99 a month for the basic package, which doesn't go up after a certain amount of years which is good, and a .co.uk domain name is £2.49 a year for 1st year and £2.99 a year after that. I have also had a look at uk-cheapest which has about the same sort of package but costs slightly less at £1.59 a month and a .co.uk domain name is £2.79 a year. They seem to have slightly better reviews but again, not great. I would really appreciate any input and your thoughts and expereinces on these companies or any other companies you would recommend. i am a former waitress and these statements piss me off more then anything i don't mean if service is bad i mean the people who don't think they should tip at all for bad reasons 1. " the staff gets paid hourly"- they get paid less then $3 that all goes to takes 2. "well it's not my fault they get paid that much, why put the burden on me" - actually the tipping process has lowered food costs for costumers. If they had to pay an entire wait staff even minimum wage food costs would double and service would decline because staff would be cut. There are a lot of places you can eat where you're not stealing from your server and being an inconsiderate prick. 3. "I don't get paid extra when i do a good job"- once again. they don't get paid extra if you don't tip they don't get paid at all. Some have to tip our bussers and hosts and stuff so actually they have to pay to wait on you if you don't tip and no waitress is going to be thrilled about paying for a rude costumer 4. "Again the burden shouldn't fall on me" - first off if you don't care about food costs doubling because they had to triple a servers pay then you shouldn't be tight on money to tip. But if you didn't tip what incentive does a server have to give you good service? They are going to get paid the same dollar amount whether they refill your drinks or not. Whether they make sure the kitchen gets your order right and they could care less if you're happy with everything. 5 "well they would get fired if they did a poor job- Bull**** it's hard enough finding servers to completely staff restaurants NOW because of what a hard job it is if you paid then a flat wage it would be harder. I have heard people have lost traffic on their website (and hence business) when they changed their web hosting company from a better one to a cheaper one. My question is, apart from the the bandwidth which is usually enough for a text based website or the uptime of the server, is there any other reason I can loose traffic if I move my site to another cheaper server?
