Resolved Question: Why would someone use Data Pipe and not somebody like Godaddy for dedicated hosting?

I found out the company I work for is paying $1300 a month for hosting with Data Pipe. That is ridiculous!! My own experience has been with smaller sites and we have only pay $3 a month understandably we have a smaller site. But I looked at Data Pipe and they have no prices or information about their servers listed just a bunch of fluff that really doesn't tell me why they would be so much more expensive than something like Go Daddy's unlimited Dedicated servers which are at the most $500 and they can support the site and databases that these guys have. I am not a tech geek, but I just don't understand why someone would pay double for what it looks like, is the same service. I have seen good things about data pipes service but bad things about their price. I have used GoDaddy and their customer service is excellent too. The company that hosts my website, Iweb technologies, (Somewhere in Canada), has been quite shaky in their web hosting. Hi all, my question is fairly simple and needs a legal guru. I'm planning to start reselling internet services, like hosting and private connections. I'll be renting a dedicated server for which I need to agree to the company's Terms and Conditions and Acceptable Use Policy. In the event one of my customers uses my service for an illegal purpose, can I be safe making my own customers sign the same type of agreement I needed to sign to be able to rent the server or am going to be personally liable for the offense? How can I be legally protected from what my users might do with my service? I could block certain activity but this goes against the main idea behind the service and even blocking everything doesn't mean somebody couldn't come with a way to bypass that. I'm considering changing provider, Talk Talk has been fine but I want TV package and a lot faster Internet.I don't want to be caught between 2 company's Id rather have the 1 bill. I wanted to original get SKY HD + and 4 entertainment mixes - Variety Music Knowledge Kids I also wanted to get Sky sports 3 for the wrestling :P and I'm sure another few shows would be good like snowboarding/Skateboarding but its something I could do without. I'd like shows that are on the entertainment mixes, stuff like the new South park episodes - when they air same with The Simpson's, I don't want to be to bombarded with repeats, a few times but not all the time. I'd like a channel similar to Kerrang and other music channels. I would like really fast Internet I love gaming online and I can have multiple devices running at once e.g PS3/360/PC/Wii playing games online even as a server host - not dedicated just when I go on create a server where I play on. Fast downloads of course. No limits, Good speeds during peak and non peak times. Now I really don't know much about how Internet works in terms of speed affecting - I mean I know up to 20mb Is cool but how much would I get peak and non peak? Is there a point, is there a limit to how much certain areas get and how do I find this out. I know Sky don't have as fast speeds as Virgin. I'd like a new router that can support multiple devices whether its wired or wireless. Phone I would like total free calls to landlines in the UK, cheap mobile and other calls as well as cheap or free calls to Portugal ( as talk talk offers) I'd also like my line rental done through the company and that it to be cheap enough. I'm looking into having my own dedicated website and I have been pleasantly surprised to find that I can purchase two years hosting at around 3 gigabytes space for the equivalent of around £1.30 per month, including a free .com domain registration. I was wondering how companies can offer these services so cheaply. They claim that they don't post any adverts and there are no extra charges involved, so how can they afford to charge such cheap rates, so where's the catch? For two years I am looking at a little over £25 for two year's hosting and even if I doubled the required space and bandwidth, the cost only increases by about 60%. I know that server units of several terabytes retail at only a few hundred pounds now but they still have substantial overheads to account for. more

To start off with, I have a ZyXEL ZyAIR G-2000 router and I have the following ZyNOS firmware version: V3.60(HI.1) Whenever I am connected to the internet via my router and set up a dedicated server on my PC for Team Fortress II (using the Team Fortress II Dedicated Server program that is provided by Steam), my server does not show up on the Internet Servers list, and people are also not able to connect to my server by either manually adding my server’s IP to their favorites list or by joining through Steam; whenever my friend would try to connect, he would get a “Server does not respond” message. Note that I am able to join other servers just fine when I am connected to the internet via my router; it is only that nobody can join my server. On the other hand, when my PC is directly connected to my modem and my router is not involved at all, there are no problems: my server shows up on the Internet Servers list, and my friend (the same one who cannot connect when my router is involved) is able to connect to my server. I can’t see any reason why my server shouldn’t show up on the Internet Servers list and why people can’t to my server when my router is involved, as the firewalls on both my PC and my router are off, services blocking on my router is disabled, and all ports (both for Steam Client and Steam Server) that are needed for this game (which I obtained from portforward.com and then cross-referenced with the information on Steam’s website, so I know that I am not missing any ports) are forwarded to my machine on our LAN; I setup a local static IP address on this machine so that my local IP address is always the same for port-forwarding purposes. Additionally, the default server is set to 0.0.0.0 on my router’s SUA/NAT page, and all of the local IP addresses on our LAN are mapped to one single global IP address (the global IP address is not static) from our internet provider (many-to-one address mapping scheme). What makes this issue even more interesting is that I am able to host a dedicated server for at least one game (it’s possible that I may be able to host servers for other games as well, but I haven’t ever tried to host a server for any of the other games that I play as I have no need to do so) on my PC when I am connected to the internet via my router: I have been hosting a dedicated server on my PC for the game Star Wars: Battlefront II for over three years with no issues of users not being able to connect to my server. I have also never needed to forward any ports for this game. The criteria I have to work within are: - It has to support the sending and receiving of colour fax's. - We also don't want something like Zetafax. which requires a dedicated phone line and modem to be setup. - The service must be hosted externally - i.e as mentioned, we don't have to host any kind of line, modem and preferably no server installation. - It needs to have the option to 'print-to-fax' i.e. user clicks print, is prompted for the phone number, enters it and away it goes. - Users also need to be able to 'email-to-fax' i.e. they attach a document to an email, and then then somehow enter the fax number and click print. It's not a long list, but it's a tricky one. I so far can't find any companies operating within the UK that offer all of these services. ThanksColour is indeed the main problem. Resolved Question: im trying to run programs on a virtual pc (xp pro) that wont work with vista 64 with no success.?

i have a windows vista x64 os hosting a fully licensed version of xp professional on the microsoft virtual pc 2007. i seem to be unable to run xp based programs that aren't compatible with vista. shouldn't i be able to run the programs as if the vista doesn't even exist on my computer? i have a separate hard drive dedicated to the xp on the virtual pc im running a toshiba Satellite with 4 gig ddr2 and 2, 200gig hard drives with vista 64 as the primary (host) OS, i have installed the windows virtual pc 2007 service pack 1, and i have windows xp pro as the virtual OS. am i mistaken that the virtual pc should act as a complete separate OS as if it was installed in a separate partition (or computer)? id simply like to keep the vista and be able to run "non vista compatible" programs on the xp in my virtual machine. if i could at least get musicmatch v10 to work, id be forever grateful i am aware that some progams can have settings changed in properties to "emulate" as if they are running in 98,xp,2000, me, etc. however in the vista x64 this doesnt work nearly as well. and since im running 4 gig ddr2 a 32 bit version of vista is out of the question. i have enabled all the drivers and hardware resources to the virtual machine, it uses the internet, graphics, and sound card without issue. im honestly stumped in response to the questions on what musicmatch can do that others cant is the very simple supertagging method and ability to add the album art that i have never come cose to finding in another program. windows media player simply has no comparison when it comes to adding album art and tagging ease. simply put musicmatch 10 has no equal i have yet to find a better program than musicmatch for audio playing and sorting more
