We are plagued with browsers, (IE & Firefox) forever messing around with "Finding" or "Looking up" domain names - and usually failing to resolve the domains - so I have populated the Hosts files of each computer with the domain names of our frequently used web sites. There are times when this seems to work well, but there are also times when the browsers seem to ignore the Hosts file, and we're back to "Finding" or "Looking up" all the domain names. I can tell when the Hosts file is being used, because Hosts directs malware and other unwanted sites' domains to 0.0.0.0. If pages finally load under these conditions, it appears that the CSS formatting has gone missing, so everything is in black & white, arranged vertically, and left-justified. This occurs most frequently when a computer has just started up or has been idle for a few hours, but it doesn't occur every time. After doing several Repairs on a connection, it may begin to use the Hosts file, but not always. We frequently have to give up and restart a computer, and hope that we won't have to Repair the connection too many times afterward, to get Hosts lookup working. We used to have a problem with losing connections when switching users on a computer, but not since I added the Windows Registry entry to keep connections across sessions, so that isn't the problem. Computer #1: Toshiba Satellite; XP Media Center Edition SP3 Computer #2: Gateway 7330GZ (laptop); XP Home SP2 Computer #3: HP Pavilion; XP Pro SP1 #3 is a very early XP machine, with only 192 MB of available RAM, and #2 isn't much better, so I'm not inclined to burden them with the OS bloat of later service packs, considering that MyCrudSoft didn't bother to fix this problem in later service packs. I'm also not inclined to trade up to and learn how to cope with and work around a whole new set of malfunctions in a newer version of sWindles, with no assurance that MyCrudSoft has fixed the present malfunctions; after all, if they fixed this in Vista or 7, they should have deployed the fix in an update for XP.Andrew S: Thanks for that thought. I have considered it, since I do have a lot of domains populated. However, that doesn't seem to account for this problem occurring primarily after starting up the computer or after it has been idle. The computer should have more memory and resources available at such a time, with which to deal with that burden. I've also tried running with an empty Hosts file - or no Hosts file - and the older computers then run slower on the Internet, apparently due to loading so many graphical ads on sites like Yahoo! and Facebook. more

I have a domain name registered with Google (gdomains through godaddy). I really love having everything handled through Google. I love the email, I'm used to the platform for my DNS settings, I like their file hosting, I have advertising credit, the registration price is perfect and includes 50 usernames and 90 CNAMES. The only thing is I really really don't like the Google Sites hosting platform. I know this isn't ideal but I'm really not ready to do a full transfer to a new host. Basically I just want something that will allow me to redirect my already registered domain name to a basic webpage that I can create through the host site. I have my own layout coded and everything and had my site up on Blogger, which was pretty close to how I want it in terms of features but it wasn't giving me the freedom I wanted to add extra pages and things like that. To water it down my site is basically a "blog" but I need 5 separately archived pages so you can see how that would be a problem with something like Blogger. Especially with my CNAMES because blog sites don't allow naked URLs. I use Webs for free hosting on smaller projects but I'm not sure if I trust them with my domain, plus I can't afford a premium package right now. I don't need the extra storage space or any of the other perks of a package deal right away, I know if I start getting traffic I will need to upgrade but I already have more than enough assets through Google to get started. Alright, so I've already set up FileZilla, and I got connected, once I learned how. My url is purplest.info Then I uploaded my home.html into my godaddy hosting service provider (hostingmanager.secureserver.net) and I placed the file in the folder ( that was already there) labled "html" and my home page showed. I went to "manage domain" and opened up about 10 or less domains. I am opening up a mousery site, so for example, I am trying to put up the "mousery" page and so it was labeled "mousery.purplest.info" and then a folder named "mousery" automatically showed up in my "File Managing" page under the "html" folder. I then uploaded successfully, "mousery.html" and then moved it into the "mousery" folder. To test out the link, I typed in mousery.purplest.info. It came up with a message from godaddy, 404 message, pretty much (you can go see yourself, just go to my page and try any link besides home). Why aren't my subdomains working? I just bought the domain like, 6 hours ago. I just started editing my site afterwards and just barely began uploading them. I'm very new to all of this, I'm very used to webs.com formerly known as freewebs.comHm, first @ Joe: I WROTE all of this. I TAUGHT MYSELF at age 11, that was about _8.5_ years ago. I stopped doing websites at age 12 , then I waited up until LAST NIGHT to write again. Now, can you sit there for almost a DECADE and then come back on and remember how to write every damn thing? hello , i am trying to web host at home with my ibm x345 server . i have a block of 8 static ip's and 1 of them is assigned at the modem router,1 on my server thru tcp-ip and another static ip assigned thru tcp-ip as default gateway and primary dns. i installed iis6 and created the default web site.. now i install the DNS server role so my pc became ns1 with his static ip resolving dns i create a forward zone and reverse with the name of my site 123.com so that gives me ns1.123.com using my servers static ip I also create a hostA record ns1 with my server's static IP now i go to my domain registrant page to change the nameservers to ns1.123.com with IP my server's static ip... when i do nslookup the response i get is dsldevicelan.com with my server's primary dns adress and not his static ip .... ? do i also have to do something to link DNS SERVER ROLE WITH IIS ? i know i am doing something wrong and i need your help - a good example on how to make this work i appreciate all your answers , THANK YOU more

so I have a webserver under build with a static ip address assigned to the router ,(project need to be done on my own hardware not reseler account ) The router is configured to forward internet requests to the webserver. Now I would like to host multible websites (Example 100 websites) web pages are saved on HDD Now assume I bought 100 domain names from (Lets say Yahoo ) I want each domain name to point to its own website c:\WebPages\webOne.\ so when a user types the domain name (sherzema.com) in their web browser they can access that specific site and when another enters freedomebla.com he can access another website on the same webserver I heared you can share hundreds of sites on one static IP I will install some webserver software (appache)on a windows based system + dns server how do I link the domains to the sites on the web server can that be linked using the http://192.168.178.90/files I donot know exactly how that happens more
