Open Question: Windows vs Linux- Godaddy hosting plans?

I emailed godaddy.com for support but I still can't find the answer I'm looking for. I want to purchase an unlimited hosting plan. I have a macbook so I don't know if I choose windows or linux. Does it matter which one I choose? I heard most mac users go for windows. When I buy it and have it (whichever one I end up choosing) is it easy to use or am I going to have difficulty trying to run things. I'm going to try using Joomla or Wordpress as the free applications godaddy offers to set up a website because I heard there are more options than simply picking a template already made up website over night plan. (and if joomla or wordpress dont work I will look into getting dreamweaver) Is this something easy to do for someone who doesn't know too much about hosting etc? Open Question: gmail's onto me! I need to send bulk email. Ideas?

I've been banned by gmail a couple of times thus far and I need a better way to do this. I have my webcam hooked up to the server in my bedroom to take pics and video if it detects motion when I'm not home and to email me the images as soon as they're created. If a burglar breaks into my room and steals my server, I'll have pics of the burglar to give to the cops. Or at least, I will if I can email the pics to myself without getting banned by email services. Any email or file hosting ideas are welcome, preferably free. Thus far my bedroom "security system" is totally ghetto-rigged with equipment I already had and hasn't cost me a dime.Rap man, I can't find a question of yours that I've answered recently, and you have your questions and answers set to private. more

I sent an email to my host, which read exactly as below: I am having trouble working out how to show images on my website. I am hoping to display all my artwork for sale on my website, although having trouble working out how to do this. I have uploaded one piece of artwork so far(into the correct folder advised by 000webhost). However i am unable to see the art image displayed on my website. Could you please advise how to do this?? Resolved Question: I bought a domain name and am kind of lost on hosting. I would really like to find free redirection?

I have a domain name registered with Google (gdomains through godaddy). I really love having everything handled through Google. I love the email, I'm used to the platform for my DNS settings, I like their file hosting, I have advertising credit, the registration price is perfect and includes 50 usernames and 90 CNAMES. The only thing is I really really don't like the Google Sites hosting platform. I know this isn't ideal but I'm really not ready to do a full transfer to a new host. Basically I just want something that will allow me to redirect my already registered domain name to a basic webpage that I can create through the host site. I have my own layout coded and everything and had my site up on Blogger, which was pretty close to how I want it in terms of features but it wasn't giving me the freedom I wanted to add extra pages and things like that. To water it down my site is basically a "blog" but I need 5 separately archived pages so you can see how that would be a problem with something like Blogger. Especially with my CNAMES because blog sites don't allow naked URLs. I use Webs for free hosting on smaller projects but I'm not sure if I trust them with my domain, plus I can't afford a premium package right now. I don't need the extra storage space or any of the other perks of a package deal right away, I know if I start getting traffic I will need to upgrade but I already have more than enough assets through Google to get started. If anyone has any suggestions or tips or even just hosting sites they would recommend that would be really helpful.@ledfrog.com- Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what I want to do, I just need to find a host that lets me do that. Hi everyone, I've just got myself an xbox 360 so i'm new to this concept. I understand xbox live is basically a bunch of servers that host online multiplayer lobbies; and from what i can gather, you need a gold membership code to play on these servers. Is there any way you can play multiplayer online without having to pay for all this hardware and subscription rubbish? Thing is, as a student, with a poorly paid job...who has about 2 hours a week for consoles - I don't think it's worth paying $50 (£30) for a subscription i'm hardly going to use, but would like the oppertunity to mess around online. Is there any way of obtaining a code? for any length of time...for free? or does anyone want to email me one? a friend of mine was sent 5 codes for 12 months each, of which he used one and passed the last 4 on. I am on a board for a softball league in my city and we are currently changing websites. Our old one is out of date and too simple, which means not enough features. We are wanting to update and move into the ages, and im trying to figure out a good website creator to use. Im going to need a domain, hosting and plenty of space. It will need to be able to accept and host html forms, someone compatible with pay-pal and eCheckout for registration fees, and email addresses. Now, the person who gave me the FTP information did not leave me with much information as to whether or not I can access or start up an E-mail account on this domain. Every time when I watch TV on my cable I go to a channel and then nothing shows up and then it says "scramble". I use to solve this problem by some guy I know send me an attachment to my email address. I don't know what it is but I think its some kind of program to unscramble my cable TV. All I have to do is download it on my flash drive, plug it into my cable box and run it. Then poof its fixed for like a month. I am doing a research project and need to create a web site that features hundreds of photos. Each photo has a lengthy caption. The site visitor needs to be able to do a keyword search and call up all the photos whose captions match the keywords in their search. Some of the photo captions need to have hot links to other pages. In essence, the site is a home page, a searchable photo database with text that describes the photos, a message board or email link, and about 10 more pages of text about other topics. I have never done a web site. I have a domain name and a web host. The easy part. Now, what program to use? I'd appreciate your opinion as to whether I should spend the money and buy DreamWeaver or if I could use the free KomPozer or how I could determine if one of the web-builder programs offered by the web hosting companies might work ???? Up until recently, I've always used Imageshack to host my images that I place within emails (via Google Chrome, I upload the image, then drag or copy and paste it into the body of the email). However, Imageshack is consistently becoming more and more unreliable, with frequent down time, images not loading properly, etc. What I want to know is whether there is a better way. Something similar to having the email as an attachment (in the context that it's hosted on Yahoo Mail's servers, and not Imageshack's), but at the same time have it so it'll appear in full size in the email's body. The Engine: The engine is not the best looking or running but for the parts that need to be replaced I will buy before the rebuilder rebuilds the engine and let the person put the new parts back on whenever the engine is to be reassembled. I would also like to get the engine bored out over 30 or over 60 (can somebody tell me the advantages of each size bore). Then once all that is done I will need the engine to be painted a basic blue to match the color of my car. Overall: Basically I am looking at an estimate of how much all of this would cost and what not but you are also free to give me and extra information about rebuilding my engine. All in all I know more than the average first timer but always interested in learning more. The Layers are: - application - presentation - session - transport - network - data link - physical Description of what each layer does. Layer 7: The top layer of the OSI model is referred to as the application layer. This layer determines the format in which the information is sent and how received information is processed. In general, applications directly implement this layer while the operating system is responsible for handling the layers below. An email application would likely implement a protocol called SMTP. SMTP specifies the format of the mail headers. This allows different email programs to communicate. The application then uses the lower layers to transmit the blocks (called packets) of information. Layer 6: The presentation layer handles things such as text compression or format conversion between different types of computers. It is usually used in TCP/IP based systems. Layer 5: The session layer establishes connections between different hosts. It is not usually used in TCP/IP based systems. Layer 4: The transport layer provides an error free connection between two computers. This means that programs using this layer can assume that packets will be transmitted in the correct order. When an email message is sent, the email program on Computer A opens a connection to Computer B and sends the information in accordance with the SMTP protocol. The transport layer divides the data into packets, adds a header to each packet, and waits for acknowledgements from Computer B that each packet arrived uncorrupted. If Computer A does not receive acknowledgement, it retransmits the packet. On Computer B, the transport layer is responsible for checking each packet to make certain it has not been corrupted and for sending back an acknowledgment to Computer A for each packet successfully received. The transport layer is also responsible for reordering the packets if they are received in a different order from which they are sent. The protocol for the transport layer in this example is TCP. TCP relies on the next layer to actually send the packet. Layer 3: The network layer routes the packet to the correct computer. In our example, each packet from the transport layer has a header placed on it by the network layer. The network layer then transmits the packet to the appropriate computer. The protocol for the network layer in this example is IP. IP relies on the next layer to physically send the data out the Ethernet Port. I have a small business with 4 employees. We are all currently using different email clients (free accounts, like Yahoo, Hotmail, MSN, Gmail). We each have our own work email addresses (name@businessname.com) set up to send/receive emails to our separate free email accounts, and separate calendars. If I want to look at my coworkers' calendars, I have to log on to three separate websites! We are starting to really rapidly grow, and need to streamline our work emails; make it more open and viewable by each of us, especially our calendars. Great feature to have would also be the ability to share files (some sort of storagecapability, accessible from anywhere) I've been looking at different hosted Email Clients, such as Blue Tie, which has a lot of the features I want, except that they don't support the free accounts that my business is currently using.
