Resolved Question: is there a good low-cost web based remote desktop support software?

I have been using logmein for a while to help family & friends with basic support (how to update windows, how to create emails, etc) but the problem i have is to have to install on their computers the software. I know that there is remote desktop support that is user friendly for customers. Have them go to url, giving me permission to remote and accept or allow, something that will not require installation. I know that logmein pro does that with a price that is not worth doing since I do it for free. I wanted to see if is you have any recommendations for a software that I could buy. Maybe I could get hosting and install it there to have the same service as logmein pro. I there is one, who knows maybe it might be something I would, do like a home business. I'm a newer-than-noob Linux user switching in from Microsoftland. Back there, I needed IIS on a Windows Server in order to run multiple dev and beta web sites simultaneously, and used SQL Server for the databases. I'm looking at switching what I do to Ubuntu now, and see they offer a desktop and server version. Would I need the server to run web services on multiple dev site projects, or can those be hosted (locally) on the desktop version? Also, what's the standard database app for Linux/Unix hosted web sites? Again, would that be runnable on desktop, or does it need the server? I have the IIS web server installed on my Windows XP.Since i have to share HTML web pages created by me i put it in my Webserver virtual directory and then give the dynamic IP of my PC to my friend who then is able to view it.Now the problem is that whenever i want my friend to access my web page i have to give him the dynamic IP everytime which keeps on changing.So some people suggested me to go for some free web hosting so that i can give him a permanent name which will internally give him my dynamic IP.Does anybody have any idea about what this stuff is because i don't want to pay for any services for just sharing my data? more

Resolved Question: Site not loading in Firefox, IE7, Opera etc?

I am at home, and I am using Firefox 3.0.10 and IE7 on my laptop and I cannot access a cinema related site. I want to check the show times.i try to access the site and got a "Network Timeout" error. I have disabled the firewall which is Windows Firewall only and anti-virus software in hopes of attaining access to no avail. I have tried using IE7, and same issue occurs. I cleared my browser cache, nothing, flushed my dns- nothing, restarted my router- nothing, I even pinged the website I was able to ping the site with 0% packet loss. I did tracert to the site and it didnt miss any hops. However it seems i am able to access the website fine through a desktop PC which has XP and another laptop which has Vista Home Premium . So i know that the site is up and running still. Everytime i attempt to i am greeted with nothing but a "network timeout" error. In IE7 i get the following message: “Windows confirmed that ‘www.cineworld.co.uk’ is currently online, but is not responding to connection attempts at this time.” and it goes on - “This usally means that a firewall is running somewhere between the two computers and is blocking ‘World Wide Web service HTTP. Windows has confirmed that Windows Firewall on this computer is correctly configured to allow this connection. However, a remote firewall might be blocking your connection.” Is it safe to assume that this is an issue with my laptop in terms of Windows unsucessfully caching an unsuccessfull dns attempt? or the site has blocked my IP address? I have even tried setting up static IP address and the issue still occurs. At the moment I am on dynamic IP. I have checked the hosts file and the site is not blocked. Canyone give me any advice? I have purchased a template. I have a website using Yahoo small business. I am trying to figure out how to put this template on to my site. I really need help. I am familiar with HTML but not CSS and it uses alot of CSS. Here are the instructions it gives me: BASIC TEMPLATE INSTRUCTIONS Before getting started you should always duplicate this folder in another location, in order to refer back to original documents when needed. In order to use the same fonts as the sample file you will need to copy and paste the fonts located in your FONTS folder, into your fonts’ folder on your computer. Location Of folder: My Computer/WINDOWS/fonts Refer to the style.css file (located inside the SITE folder, folder name: styles] along with the html web pages) when needing to modify your text, colors, and some background images and colors. View your source code to identify which items you want to modify. This web template is designed in advanced cascading style sheets format. In order to work with this template you will need some understanding of how to use cascading style sheets. To learn more go to http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp. THERE ARE 2 VERSIONS OF LAYOUT DESIGN TO CHOOSE FROM. All web template files for the table-based site are located in the folder named “TABLE BASED SITE”. I need to create a very basic website, one feature of which needs to be the ability for each user to be able to download files that are specific to him/her...and the files are very sensitive / confidential. I need to host it locally if possible but if there is a service out there that does it I might be able to swing it. I have Ubuntu Linux and Windows servers available to me. Resolved Question: Web Server Setup - Port 80 and More?

Here's the setup: 1) The web server is Apache 2.x on Ubuntu 8.10 2) The router is a U.S. Robotics 5461 (password protected) 3) Internet access is DSL through AT&T (dynamic IP) 4) The web hosting service is No-IP.com I cannot seem to (find the correct information to) setup the computer as a web host. I know I am so close and yet so far. Here's what I have been able to do thus far: I believe I have been able to make the LAN IP address static via the "Network Configuration" (or "Network Connections") window in Ubuntu by editing "Wired" > "Auto eth0" > "IPv4 Settings" where I changed the "Method" to "Manual" and adding an "Address" with the desired IP for that computer, thus, hopefully making it static. Anyhow, I have Apache installed, and when I go to "http://localhost/" it comes up with the test page. However, when I attempt to access the no-ip.com address, it get's back to my router, undoubtedly, but it requests the router's username and password. When I type this info in, instead of the test webpage, it displays the router's firmware. In an attempt to forward the port, I have added both a TCP and a UDP for "Port Forwarding" within the router's firmware with a "LAN port range" of "80 to 80" and the "LAN IP address" with the static IP address that, previously, I had manually inputted. This did not take care of the matter. What (else) do I need to do? Thanks! more

So I used to play world of warcraft I left off at level 70. I was a pretty serious player and its been 5 months since I last played. I quit because we do not have Internet any more but we might get the Internet again in a few weeks. If we do I want to be able to play the new expansion on world of warcraft, and be able to pvp(arena with stable connection) I live is las vegas, Nevada and was wondering if theres a Internet service around 45 a month or less that will be good for this. I used to have cox and I know they work well but I'm looking for a different provider so dont say cox please. I was looking at cricket Internet, the web site says stuff like limited 5G throughput per month, and does not include hosted computer applications continuous web camera or broadcast, automatic data feeds, machine to machine connections, peer to peer(P2P) connections or other applications that denigrate network capacity or functionality. I have no idea what any of this means and wonder if it will allow me to play world of Warcraft or limit it or what? Resolved Question: How do I upload a picture to my new website?

I purchased a website from GoDaddy and signed up for the free hosting service they provide, Windows version. Under Hosting Account, I clicked on "Manage Account." Then selected "Content" Then "File Manager" From there, I clicked on the "Upload" tab, and browsed, uploaded a picture. File type says "Image" so I can see that it has successfully uploaded, and the only other thing listed is the welcome.html, but when I go to the website, I only see the welcome page (generic from godaddy) but not the image I uploaded...any tips? Resolved Question: Why Can I Not Connect To Bittorent or Limewire? I have disabled firewall and have antivirus!!!!?

I Cannot connect to Bittorent 6.1.1 or Limewire 4.18.8. I have disabled my firewall, I have disabled antivirus software and I have opened all the necessary ports 6881-6999. I also made sure these programs had the appropriate permissions and unblock settings. Everything was working fine a few days ago. I installed a windows update: Service Pak (not sure if it was 1 or 2) I think it was 2. It was working fine I also upgraded to Bittorent 6.1.1 ( I THINK THIS IS WHEN IT BEGAN TO FAIL ) I've tried every other Torrent client available on the internet and I still get NO SEEDS NO PEERS. It simply will not allow me to connect to any Hosts I cant even check for updates, I get a message saying " cannot connect to Bittorent Update Server" . When I click on the speed test option and choose to see if the listening ports are open, It tells me they are closed. I opened all these ports in windows as well as through my router. Still doesnt work. All other programs that connect to the internet are working perfectly MSN MESSENGER, ITUNES FIREFOX SAFARI ETC..... Except INTERNET EXPLORER, it will not load a web page, cannot connect. SO WEIRD!!!!!! considering all options are at default and all my other browsers work fine. As for Limewire, I cannot login. Even when my firewall is turned OFF I still see a firewall icon in the bottom left hand corner of Limewire. when I drag my mouse over it I see "limewire has detected a firewall" I have searched all my programs and i don't have any other programs that can block programs. Resolved Question: Help getting usb 2.0 to work.?

I have a relatively recent computer, only about 1-2 years old, and have not been able to get my usb ports to run at 2.0 speed. I've tried doing research on the web before asking the question but can't find a straight story. The motherboard is a MS-7181 , and claimed on the box it supports usb 2.0. It uses the VIA chipset/ I tried updating my windows XP to service pack 2, but that didn't work. I go in the device manager and it has 4 listings of "VIA rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller", and 4 listings of "USB root hub". Can't find anything that says "enhanced", like I hear it is supposed to. I've heard that I might have to download some drivers seperate than just the service pack, but this is where I'm confused as to what drivers I need. Can't figure out if I need drivers from microsoft, or directly from VIA since its a via chipset, or what. What drivers to I need to get it to work and where can I get them? Thanks. more

Okay, this is a little long so bare with me. First of all I'm 15 and I thought it would be a good time register a few "MyName" domains because I'm going to be a successful entrepreneur [don't think I'm obnoxious, I'm just optimistic =D ] and the last thing I want is somebody impersonating me with MyName.com and to not be willing to sell the domain! And since the internet if of growing use, everybody should probably have a domain in their name. Anyhow, I just contacted the owner of MySurname.com and they said they wouldn't be prepared to sell, because they want to give it to their children or something. Which was kind of a b*tch because I was hoping for an Email address such as - "MyFisrtName@MySurname.com" But hey, I guess you can't have it all. And maybe I'll get it one day anyhow. But as odd as it may seem, I'd rather have MyFullName.com instead of just MySurname.com because it would be harder for people to find me! And it may look less formal. So now, there are a few things I wish to know. 1. What is the best/least expensive domain registration provider out there? Is there any sort of a comparison site or anything? I'm hoping to buy maybe 10 - 20 domain names. [MyName.com, MyName.net, MyName.info, etc.] So if the site has something for bulk registration discounts it would be good. 2. If I want to receive Emails at one of the domains - E.g. Darren@MyDomain.com - do I still have to pay for web hosting if I don't actually want a website, just to receive Emails? 3. If I DO have to pay for just receiving Emails on it, but not having a website; If I use Windows Live Admin Center to receive Emails from it do I still have to pay for web hosting? I use a lot of Windows Live Services on a daily basis. [Hotmail, MSN Messenger, Windows Live Mail] so I would like to use Admin Center anyway because I love all of Windows Live's features. 4. I'm not sure about redirecting webpages or anything but I've read it has something to do with the DNS Control Panel. So the question is: If I want to have all-but-one of the domains to redirect to the main webpage; do I have to pay for web-hosting on all of them to access the DNS Control Panel on all of them? Or can you make webpages redirect without having to pay for web-hosting on them? As in, does the DNS Control Panel come free with the domain? 5. When you register a domain with the "1 Year" thing written under it, is that a binding contract? For example, if you sign up for a 1 Year Domain package with provider X, can you transfer the domains to provider Y after a few months if they have a better price plan? Or must you stay with the first one for the full year? 6. If you are reading your Emails through Windows Live Admin Center does the Junk Mail filter still filter your mail for you or must you use a third party program? I can’t see why I wouldn’t; I just thought I’d throw that in. 7. Are there any countries that won’t let you use their domain extension unless you are a citizen? 8. Can you redirect any domain you own to any webpage? 9. So far I haven‘t found a domain registration provider that you can register ANY extension with, is there such a thing? Is there an open source Web Server software that I can download or install in my laptop to run and test a website I'm building with Frontpage 2003 before I would finally publish it with any server host vendor? My Operating System is Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service pack 2.
