Okay, so here's the deal. My dad, who is a internet marketer, made me a blog on blogger for my indie film company Mind Blown Films at www.mindblownfilms.com. What I would like to do is stop making it a blog edited with blogger and instead make it a website that I can edit with iWeb. This is especially needed since my dad said that blogger is cutting it's free services for FTP users, so unless I upgrade to the $10 dollars a year services I will have to do something. My dad is the person who set up the hosting and everything for my blog, but I hardly see him because my parents are divorced, so is there a way, I myself (who has almost no prior knowledge of web designing besides using html to embed objects) can change my blog into a website (by the way I have already bought the domain mindblownfilms.com) so I can edit it myself with iWeb.I'm not concerned about finding a hosting site my dad will pay for it, but I'm wondering how to make a website with iWeb and keep the domain I have for my blog more

I've been tasked with looking into virtualizing one of our clients. I am new to the game and have a question regarding authenticating users who will be connecting to a remote virtualized domain controller. The site has a DSL line and sonicwall firewall with a vpn connection to our office. We plan on installing a vm server at our office to provide hosting of the virtual server. In order for DNS to work properly on the client site, is it as simple as adding the primary DNS pointing to our DNS server through the VPN link for authentication and adding their public DNS as the secondary for regualar internet functions? more

a while ago i got the internet security 2010 virus but i got rid of it. then like a month later i started getting a bunch of pop-ups and now this virus gives me pop-ups every like 10 seconds and i think that it keeps turning off my firewall. also, it won't let me open malwarebytes' it says windows is searching for mbam.exe. to locate the file yourself, click browse. and it has a moving flashlight. malwarebytes' doesn't have the icon picture on the desktop. also (i just want to add as much info as possible so i can get this fixed soon) it won't let me go onto google chrome anymore! :( it says this operation has been cancelled(spelled like that) due to restrictions in effect on this computer. please contact your system administrator. and i have avg and i've been using it since mbam doesn't work (but avg does NOTHING for me) AVG said like 10 minutes ago (and does it plenty of other times with different viruses) Accessed file has warning C:/WINDOWS/system32/driver/etc/hosts Host file contains forbidden domain name update.avg.com Detected on open. Two days ago I've changed my web hosting company. I also bought a new domain name to use with my new web hosting. I've changed the DNS settings on the domain etc. But when I try to open my new domain name I get this error: DNS error - cannot find server My domain company said its to do with my hosting company and they couldn't help me. My hosting company said there wasn't any problem with my DNS settings and everything was working fine and they told me to check my internet connection and turn my modem off and on again. So I did what they told me but I still get the same error. I tried opening my new domain using a proxy site and when I use a proxy it works fine. Can anyone help me? more

I recently became aware that you are not allowed to advertise or have affiliates in any way while using a blog at wordpress.com. I have searched the internet over for a question that no one has been able to answer so far. That question is: If you use a host that you pay for, to host your blog- like godaddy or something, will wordpress still nuke you? I need to know this because I am dissatisfied using blogspot.com where my blog is currently at. I used to use WP but now want to switch back- but I don't want to sacrifice my affiliates or advertising because I am using my blog for e-commerce and affiliate marketing purposes. Wordpress states, "Adsense, Yahoo, Chitika, TextLinkAds and other ads are not permitted on WordPress.com blogs*. For the past day or so, Google and its subdomain sites have not been opening. I cannot access them. Whenever I do, after the standard timeout period the browser displays the error page. I need these sites on a daily basis. Work and personal reasons. www.google.com/ncr docs.google.com mail.google.com ALL other websites like yahoo, facebook, hotmail, etc. are opening successfully and without delay. So far I have tried: ~~resetting my router ~~resetting Chrome browser settings ~~ping google.com (request timed out), ping facebook.com (avg 206ms), ping xda-developers.com (avg(341ms) ~~scanned using AVG 9.07 Internet security (licensed) I have a wireless router, this desktop is connected using ethernet/lan. However, I have a laptop which is WiFi connected also my PDA uses a SDIO wifi card to connect to the same router. Internet works fine on all 3. However, google.com and its sites will not open on the desktop and laptop but open on the pda. Lastly, i also checked hosts file in root\system32\drivers\etc. There are no lines in it other than the comments. I'm staying in Manila, Philippines. This problem started last night (26 January, 2010) and resetting and restarting the hardware hasn't helped. Please explain this problem as well as help me out with a solution! Hello, I have built and XHTML page with some CSS attached to it. I would like to have it on the internet. I would also like to attach a www.website.com/forums directory to it where I could have some phpBB forums or something like that. I went to GoDaddy to try and purchase a domain, which is what I thought I needed. Going through the process I noticed an option for "Website and Hosting" for about $5 a month. Do I need to get this, or is it just some kind of "Website Builder" for people who want templates and that kind of stuff? I have an FTP program and I'm familiar with uploading things to an already-created site, but I've never really gone through the set-up. Also, I don't want to spend like $60/year unless I have to. Hi, I left my computer on one night and in the morning, I reboot it, try to go on the internet, but it won't work. I have DHCP enabled on my router and in the XP Network Connections stuff. When I do ipconfig /all, DNS host specific-suffix is blank, and Default Gateway is blank. If I try to ping a domain name, it times out. Tracert won't work at all. If I do nslookup, it thinks that my router config page (192.168.1.1) is the server. When I try to connect to Xbox Live via the router, it says that my router isn't assigning DNS servers correctly. I also tried connecting just through my modem, but it didn't work. My router is a Linksys WRTG54 with DD-WRT firmware. Can someone please help me with this? Is there anything else I need to check, or anything I can do at all? Or do I need a new modem? Thank you in advance.I have tried resettting both. I even did a hard reset on my router. more

Voting Question: How does malware redirect internet traffic?

During a recent malware infection, firefox, IE, and chrome all got redirected to ad sites whenever I tried to visit any of several common sites (google.com, microsoft.com, etc.). I've seen this happen on many other computers as well. How the heck do they do this? I checked the etc/hosts file, as well as the routing table (with route print), but couldn't find anything for those sites in either place. Is there some hidden registry key that stores static domain - IP mappings, or something? I've long since cleaned up the infection, so I'm just curious now, but the how's of this have been bugging me for a while. more

Resolved Question: Files appearing on host FTP but not mine?

Okay so my host gave me an FTP account to go with my sub-domain. I am using BladeFTP and when i put everything (details) in, no content appears. But my host says she can see content on her cpanel which leads to my FTP. She has even added an "index.html" on her side to prove she can see what I have but for some reason even though the internet "index.html" page does show up and I have seen it when added with my address, nothing pops up on BladeFTP. I know Blade FTP works because my friends use it and so does my hosts hostee's. HELP PLEASE! Why isnt anything appearing on my side but my host can add things via her side?! Help! more

That was my question. I know what a url is. I also know your browser gets the ip and so on. But that is not my question. I guess that was the easiest way for me to ask it. If you have a webserver and such is there a way you could get it to find an unused url name and then register it. For example you could use a provider like webs.com for an internet site like example.com if you paid them enough money. But who hosts webs.com... Does it get to a point where their servers find an open addresss and just register it? more

Resolved Question: Having an issue distinguishing our company.?

My partner and I have been working for the past year and a half developing a marketing system to help promote local businesses in a certain niche market (sorry wont say what the niche is). But when we go to pitch our service we are running into problems. First this is what we do: Basically we have developed a website much akin yellow pages which only caters towards this niche, over the past year and a half we have become highly optimized for almost every category in the niche ranking in the top 3 spots in Google Yahoo and Bing (MSN). (outranking even yellowpages, yelp, yellowbook and others) However we are not only offering a subscription into the directory (which gives the clients more exposure). We build each client a website, they get to choose their domain name, we create a custom classified advertisements to use, and we promote their businesses through Google Adwords, (this is done by having adwords drop the click through onto their listing page on our site.) In addition we give the clients access to a backend where they can track how many impressions their classified ads recieve, how many clickthroughs to their website, and a host of other statistical tools. This is above and beyond yellowpages, in fact many clients we talk to say they spend 150-300 a month on yellowpages and recieve NO results. We have a few clients who are very satisfied with the service, and it has helped them land additional business. In fact for most of our clients, only 1 job from a lead covers a months charge or more, and we only charge $50/mo promotional rate for 6 months then it goes to $80/mo from there. Now here is the problem we face when trying to get new clients.... Many of you may have been cold called and pitched by some internet search engine optimization company that promises that they can get you on the front page of Google for a fee.. Most of those companies are shady and provide no results. For some reason when we start talking to people this is what they think we are doing... when in fact this is NOT what we are doing at all! i have created a website in macromedia dreamweaver mx2004. i now need to know how i would go about publishing it. i have 3 pages on the site and each is a separate .htm file on my computer and they are linked together by links but how would i make sure i can transfer the 3 pages and make sure they work properly over the internet rather than just in preview mode on my computer? i also need some advice on the best places to go for hosting and domain names. thanks matt more

Is it legal for me to start a small internet hosting business? I've read up on many pages before that such large successful companies today started back when their owner/founder were only 14-18 years old. I am currently 16 years old and have major experience over the internet, marketing, advertising, and college credits over business courses. I wanted to major in mba and/or marketing/advertising and I thought it may be interesting if I started a company. I thought to myself maybe reseller hosting and domain names would be a great place to start. I am able to provide myself with a website, domain, hosting, and I know of a few places for webhosting reseller. Would it be legal for me to start this business without a business license or anything? Since I'm only 16 years old. In simple words...is it legal for me (a 16 year old) to start a small internet webhosting business? I would accept payments through PayPal, and I would have a SECURE order form and client management system for my customers. If this is legal...how do I gain trust from customers? Letting them know that this is NOT a scam company or anything. The only way I can think of is presenting to them a business license of some sort. Resolved Question: Help with filezilla and dyndns ftp server?

I have been trying to setup my first ftp server on my own, I have a pretty good computer background just never anything with FTP or using any type of server. I had an old computer with over a TB of storage that i wanted to use as an FTP server that me and my friends can have access to whenever needed. I am using windows 7 ultimate on it. I will explain what i have done so far: I have installed filezilla server and when i first start filezilla i leave the default IP address in the field and leave the port to be 14147. and then leave the password blank. I have made user accounts with passwords to log on to the ftp server. I have comcast cable internet so i use dyndns to keep my IP static. I have a linksys router that i opened the ports 20 and 21 and forwarded them to my local IP address for the computer i have the filezilla server installed on. In my linksys router configuration I used the ddns service and selected dyndns.org and filled in the information from my dyndns account. Dyndns assigned me a domain to use lets say its: myserver.homeunix.com If i type this into a browser in or outside of the network, the connection just times out and nothing happens. If I use filzilla client to connect to the filezilla server. I put the domain"myserver.homeunix.com into the host field and then fill in the username and password and use port 21 it allows me to connect and transfer files fine. My question is what am i doing wrong that i cannot connect to the ftp server through a browser. Thank you more

Voting Question: Baby Monitor with Day and Night Web Cams -live feed to password protected website?

HI, I'm interested in setting a web cam set up in my house. Here is what I want to do: I want to have two web cams - one for day and one for night and day, which will be in the babies' room. The first cam will be down stairs near where we spend our time during the day. And the other upstairs which will be used primarily at night thus requiring night vision. Id like to have both cams on 24/7 with a live feed to the internet and the feed will be visible on a website I will purchase. This site will be password protected. I will purchase the domain and I already have hosting. My purpose for this is that I want my wife to be able to view the baby from work, or wherever she is and also my mother in law in Asia wants to be able to view the baby too. What hardware do I need to make this happen aside from webcams. Furthermore, the cams I'm going to use are going to be wireless.
