Is there a way to protect some 1200 PDF files with a password at a single attempt? I want to find if there is a method using I can assign a password like "1stFeb2010"(i know it is a weak password, but i am just using it as an example) to all the 1200 PDF files The link http://caheinfo.wsu.edu/webtips/pdf/pw.html shows how to do that for one file, but I have some 1200 files so is there a batch process which does that? I guess protecting the page where the PDF files will be hosted with credentials is a better and easier alternative, but since we have no control over the web-server we have to resort to such methods to protect the files. We don't want people outside our campus accessing the PDF files, but at the same time we are required to host them on our site. It is only for people inside our campus. I understand I cannot get a very high level of protection without digital certificates or DRM. Are there any better options? A quick search on the forum did not reveal anything. Hello, I have built and XHTML page with some CSS attached to it. I would like to have it on the internet. I would also like to attach a www.website.com/forums directory to it where I could have some phpBB forums or something like that. I went to GoDaddy to try and purchase a domain, which is what I thought I needed. Going through the process I noticed an option for "Website and Hosting" for about $5 a month. Do I need to get this, or is it just some kind of "Website Builder" for people who want templates and that kind of stuff? I have an FTP program and I'm familiar with uploading things to an already-created site, but I've never really gone through the set-up. Also, I don't want to spend like $60/year unless I have to. Okay, so I recently bought a domain on xisto.com. Now, I want my domain( Without a subdomain, e.g. 'whatever.weebly.com') to show up wherever the person goes on the website. So I set up an account on zymic.com. Now, first I created an index.html page (a small one, pretty basic).I decided I wanted a homepage, and a forum. Now, the homepage shows up as mywebsite.com. But when I go to the forum directory (located in /forums/), my website shows up as mywebsite.zxq.net/forums/index.php. I want it to show up as mywebsite.com/forums/index.php. It's the subdomain. I REALLY want to get rid of that. It looks so utterly unprofessional. Does zymic have an option for this, or do I have to switch to another web host to change this? Now a serious problem with my website and need a very fast reply from an expert. I have my own domain but my web hosting service is from 110mb which is a free. So my free hosting website is mysubdomain.110mb.com (I didn't want to spam here). Now the problem arises: I set DNS name servers to my free website and linked them. So my new domain- mydomain.com points to mysubdomain.110mb.com I submitted mydomain.com to google a week back and the Google robots crawled my website and indexed them. Unfortunately I resubmitted my url mydomain.com few days back. But for the past few days I dont find mydomain.com in the google search engine rather there are cached pages from mysubdomain.110mb.com Now my question is- Is my website mydomain.com takes longer to be indexed because i resubmitted my website? (or) Is my website mydomain.com been penalised because of the duplicate content? (that is my own website mysubdomain.110mb.com that really points to mydomain.com) I guess it should be the second case because I saw some posts in 110mb forum as such. Now can any body help me out to resolve this problem? I do not want google to index my sub domain with 110mb rather I want mydomain.com to be placed again. What can i do? I have the newest version of iTunes available, and I am the computer System Administrator. Everything on my computer has been updated to the newest versions. I have an idea for a website, but I am a little out of my depth already! Yes yes not a great start, but I am hoping that it isn't all as confusing as it seems! I would need a website where people can register and set up profiles. I will also require the option of people purchasing an optional membership to the site. There needs to be forums as well as some other things. Resolved Question: Can you sync a local copy of Wordpress files to and from a remote host?

Hi, Alright I have my site up and running and everything is working just fine. All of my files are backed up locally and I only sync files back and forth that have been changed. My question is I'm also using Wordpress on my site for blogging purposes. Everything that's on my site is backed up EXCEPT Wordpress. Now I'm still kind of new to databases and everything, but can I safely sync my Wordpress directory with my other local site files? I want to do this for ease of changing themes, or restoring them should something happen to the remote files Now if I were to create a new blog entry or page using Wordpress are those files saved in my Wordpress directory or are they in some sort of SQL database? If they are in a separate database outside of my Wordpress directory, what is the best way to back this up regularly to my local computer? Basically I just want to be safe in case something happened to where I ever had to either restore all of my files to the website or even transfer my files to a different web host. Would all of the user accounts and blog posts still be intact? Heck sometimes even just upgrading Wordpress software can mess things up. I know I'm a bit paranoid but I'd rather play it safe. Hi, thanks for looking at my question. I've been through 3 hosting sites already and I've come to realize that I need help. I have been taking web design classes and have a site made, but the hosting sites I have tried have been disappointing. I tried FatCow, SuperGreen and JustHostIt. Freewebs is currently hosting the site, but upgrading to a paid account there is more expensive than I'd like. Anyway, I don't want a WYSIWYG site-builder or for my host to advertise for me as I know how to do that on my own, I have a domain name already as well. I would like e-mail, I don't need endless bandwidth as the site is for a club, but we will be posting movies, photos, and podcasts. I would like a host that allows for a forum to be created, but can always use a third-party site. Anyone know a good one? Thank you!I will not use GoDaddy for its affiliation with pedophile websites.FatCow- Live Chat handled problems very slowly and treated me like an idiot. I told them i had a CSS codes splash page and they told me to upload the flash file... five times as I tried to tell them there was no flash file, just 3 pictures arranged using CSS. SuperGreen- Took a long time to get e-mails answered and questions about why my file manager was not letting me display my website were met by giving me a link to a useless video tutorial. Freewebs- High price without the features to support that price. Let's say I have an extremely stripped down web forum - actually, not even something where you can reply to things; just post text and that's it- and not even linkable text... is it absolutely necessary that I post guidelines to abide by? Meaning, I don't want to get in trouble if somebody posts a url to some kind of 2girls1cup illegal crap. In this day and age of web forums, is it a must that I post rules or guidelines somewhere? Yesterday I signed up with JustHost.com and I am DISAPPOINTED. They offered daily backups, but now they want to charge for it. I asked for help and they have yet to answer. About 3 years ago I had a small business account with Yahoo, and I did like the ease of use. I always had quick help when needed with no hassles. I only used it a short time because of illness. It appears have changed a little bit since then, and I want a new web host. I would love to have the easy site builder like Yahoo had at that time. The program was downloadable so I could build on my computer to upload later. The other programs made it so very easy to use. Everything was point and click, and there were no premium services that I needed to add. I want that same ability, but I would like to have chat and possibly a forum and the ability to offer blogs to other users. The blogs is not a priority, though. Chat is number one priority. Forum is number two. Ease of use - preferably point and click - is what I need. It would be nice to have the ability to link to a video or be allowed to upload a video. JustHost does not allow this.
