I'm thinking about alternative web hosting for my tutorial site, and I'm just wondering how good 000space is. The ratings on free-webhosts.com were disabled, so I'm not sure what to compare it to. Also, does it have an inactivity limit? I didn't see this on their site... Please don't recommend any paid services. Open Question: I've created a form for a website using Microsoft Expressions, but...?

How do I retrieve the information collected without setting the form up to use FrontPage Extensions (something I cannot do, since my web host no longer supports extensions) I went to form properties and it looks as though the only option is to send the info to a Custom ISAPI, NSPAI, CGI, or ASP script. I'm new to Microsoft Expressions and don't really know what any of these are. I've gone to numerous sites and tried countless searches, but all I can find is the basic information about how to create the form. Well my form is created. Now I need to utilize it. I have owned a website for several years. The website is pretty good. I had originally thought that the hosting fee of $20 a month included changes, but I'd often get hundreds of dollars in charges when I changed things. Even little things like changing background colors. I had asked her several times since I didn't understand, then she told me off in an email. After that I tried to find out how to get out. She said I was "stuck". I posted about it on here and someone dug around and found out she had my domain name listed under her company. I checked with the hosting site and they said with the right legal documents I can get it from her but it's a process. She has said I own my site but never given me any back up files. I'm going to call her and ask for the files. She had suggested in the past that I build sister sites to help draw more attention to my main site, so that is the excuse I'll use for asking for the files, and also as a "precaution in case she went out of business or something". I thought about asking her when she renews the domain if she would put it in my name? But when I've tried to ask her these types of questions in the past over email, she has taken weeks to respond then leaves out those answers. I'm a little concerned too if I give her any indication I know she owns the domain name she won't give me my files. My domain name is set to renew in a week, and I may have to renew since I can't get reestablished that quick. I wonder if I can renew for like 3 months? I hope that wasn't too confusing. I'm just trying to figure out what you would suggest I ask her for when I call. The main thing I guess I need are my website files, although I"m not sure really even what to ask for there. Open Question: What kind of connection do you need to run multiple dedicated web hosting servers?

I've been curious about this for a while seeing how I would like to get into it as a side job sort of thing once I'm out of college but I'm completely stumped. So the questions are basically. -What kind of connection would you need to be able to keep multiple dedicated servers stable and lag free? (servers for web hosting and game hosting). -How do you go about getting such a connection? Do only certain ISP's offer it? Is it just a well above average connection? Or is it something you have to own a company just to get? -How much would such a connection cost? Most dedicated servers cost you about $300-900 a month on a lot of host reseller sites so I'm sure the connection would cost quite a bit(And I know there is probably a higher profit margin so they can pay off the machine itself) Any information is appreciated . I signed up for a blog through Wordpress.com and had my site as example.wordpress.com. I purchased a domain name through Wordpress.com and pointed my wordpress blog/site to it. I attempted to install a custom theme to Wordpress and couldn't, and after researching I found out that I needed to go through Wordpress.ORG in order to do these kind of things, even after purchasing the Wordpress.com CSS upgrade. I've attempted several times to download Wordpress through the .org site and I absolutely cannot understand what to do. I don't know how to do the FTP, FileZilla and I don't know what it means to webhost? Can someone please walk me through this? It's very overwhelming and starting to deter me from continuing with my site. more

Open Question: Publishing/hosting a flash-based website?

To start, I know next to nothing about HTML code. But I did somehow manage to teach myself how to build a website in flash and learned a little bit about actionscript. when I finished my site I published it from Flash to get an HTML file and an .swf file for each page of the site. This is where I'm stuck. I don't know how to go about hosting this on the web to where (1)each page will display correctly and (2)the button links [to each page] work. I tried using the html files on intuit.com but couldnt figure either of those two goals. The page just showed up completely black. Do I use the HTML files from when I published it or do I somehow embed to swf file into HTML code anthem upload it to the host site? I'm still very new to hosting webfiles so any help would be greatly appreciated. Also if there are any recommendations on which hosting site is the most "flash" user friendly I would love to know. Two days ago I've changed my web hosting company. I also bought a new domain name to use with my new web hosting. I've changed the DNS settings on the domain etc. But when I try to open my new domain name I get this error: DNS error - cannot find server My domain company said its to do with my hosting company and they couldn't help me. My hosting company said there wasn't any problem with my DNS settings and everything was working fine and they told me to check my internet connection and turn my modem off and on again. Yesterday everything was working fine, but when I turned on the computer a few hours ago, I was unable to load my website host (webs.com) or any other sites hosted by webs.com. Twitter also won't open, nor will onemanga.com. I can use Facebook, but the games - Farmville, Mobsters etc - will load or even begin to load, they just have a white box or a blue box. Some of my other regularly used sites work, like youtube and myspace, which is weird because if I ever have a problem loading a page, it's usually myspace... It's not a problem with my ISP - my friend is with them too, and she can access all the sites I can't. I've tried using different browsers, but still have the same problem with the same sites. I am planning to use a site for applying for jobs purposes. I will want some space to upload my computer programming works and either the human resource downloads the software I created or can play with it online. I more familiar with Visual Basic and SQL so I am on the database side. I was wondering if someone can give me free web hosts that is good for me to start making my own web page. Eventually once I am good and actually enjoy making web pages I will eventually buy a domain. The free ASP.net site I am using now is free for only 3 months. I am hoping there is something I can use longer like 6 month since I don't always have time to work on my website. more

Resolved Question: Installing web server/PHP/SQL on development system?

I am working on setting up a development laptop for PHP. My goal is the well-used Server/PHP/SQL combination. The laptop I am trying to equip is running Windows 7 Home 64-bit. I have spent the last 9 hours trying to make something ...Anything... WORK. I will be putting any finished website pages on a regularly hosted server - so I'm not really concerned with the details of a development pc setup - as long as it works! I don't care whether it is a pre-packaged installation or manual installation. I don't even care if it's IIS or Apache. I tried first installing the Apache 2.2 web server. When I was done, I was able to open a browser and get the "It Worked!" message from a successful install. Then I tried to add PHP 5 to the mix and read LOTS of instructional sites online. A.) At some point you typically need to rename "php.ini-development" to "php.ini" B.) then change some lines inside the file to configure it. C.) Then you are supposed to copy a file from the php .zip "install package" to your windows directory. I think these are old instructions that do not apply to the current version of PHP 5 and Windows 7. So I got sick of trying with Apache and tried the Windows IIS7 approach. First, I used the Microsoft Web Platform Installer 2.0 which is supposed to be "Automatic". I added the PHP option during the install, but none of my test .php pages will parse correctly when opened with a browser. They either come up showing the source php code or they show nothing at all. Then I tried the xampp installer - which is outdated - but supposedly still works. = "http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html" No luck with that. Then I tried the pre-packaged installer at SorceForge.net = "http://sourceforge.net/projects/phptriad/files/". No luck with that either. I imagine I have cluttered the system up with so many different approaches. Maybe they are counter-acting each other. 1.) If there are files that need to be cleaned/uninstalled before putting together a Server/PHP/SQL setup - which files are they? I will clean/uninstall them. 2.) This laptop started off clean. I'd like to get it back to that point and start off on the correct foot. The directions just need to be CLEAR and UP TO DATE WITH WINDOWS 7. I'm not picky but it has to work.
