I've been paying $6.95 per month for great hosting, but I don't really use it for anything but testing scripts I write in PERL or PHP and hosting files like Word docs, pictures, and the like for my family and friends to see. A long time ago before I got my paid hosting, I'd been riding the free hosting wave which seems to be a dying market. I know it's rare to find nowadays, but my needs are very basic and I wanted to see if could recommend a free host to use. To show how long it's been and much I know about how it's changed, I went to sites like Tripod and Netfirms and was shocked to find that they didn't even offer free hosting anymore. All I need is Perl, FTP, and like 50-100 MB of space. PHP would be nice but I don't use it much so I don't require it. I don't need MySQL, email, a control panel, or anything like that (but won't complain if someone knows of one with it), and I'm not concerned with advertisements. Hi. I would like to start a web hosting company by joining a reseller program. I have two programs in mind, but I don't know which one is better. 1. Www.resellerspanel.com: this program is free and you can sell all different kinds of plans which includes unlimited domain hosting, tons of disk space, free domain, auto responder, website builder, control panel, marketing tools, and much more. However, the hosting you sell does not come with cpanel. The company takes care of customer support, and servers and matinence. They take a wholesale cost which covers there work, and however much you mArkup is what you keep. So if the business plan has a wholesale of $40 per year, if u mark it up to $100 a year, you keep 60$ a year from that client. The program also gives me a pre made site with different templates to promote the hosting. I also get a control panel to see everything. They have great marketing tools. 2. Www.hostgator.com: this is probably a more popular reseller program. You do sell hosting with c panel, but it costs 25-100 dollars each month, and doesn't have as much space as resellerspanel. However, they don't take a wholesale from you like reseller panel does. They don't supply 24/7/365 support for your clients like resellerspanel does. So, I am leaning towards resellerspanel since it costs less, but do you think no cpanel will make a huge difference? Which program should i use? more

I would like to start an online company. My goal is to eventually make six or more figures a year. I have two ideas, 1 being a interactive type of site, and 2 being a standard online business. I'm not sure which one is profitable. 1. A website where people can siign up for free and sell, list, buy, trade, and auction off their websites and or domain names. Users would be charged a small fee to post a listing. They could then post info and photos of their site and people can buy the site for a buy now price, or get entered into an auction. I would have account ratings and telephone verification to help with security. There is already a site called flippa.com that does everything I just mentioned. The reason why people don't like flippa is because the listing fee is to high. If I can lower th fee, and implement a marketing plan, I will have success. Flippa makes 4-5k a day just from advertisiments on their site. There are currently pre made scripts available for this type of site, and they only cost $60. The problem is, it is not a professional site, and I'm worried about bugs with the script. If I wanted to make this site, should I buy the pre made scripts, have an elance person build an okay site for $1000, or hire a web design firm to build a top notch site for 10k? I am a teen, so my startup cash is limited. Pros- limited competition, huge potential Cons- huge startup 2. I would start a web hosting company by reselling web hosting plans. I would join a companies reseller program, and create a website and promote hosting plans. The company keeps the wholesale cost, and I keep the markup. So if it's 40 a year and I mark up to 65 a year, I keep 25 a year for that customer. It is recurring income. If I get a modest 2 people per day, I would have 730 clients by the end of the year. That means for the next year, I am making 18k from the people from the first year, while also gaining new clients. So every year, assuming that the client still is hosting with us, I am getting an additional 18k. So I'm making tons of money for years to come. I have heard of host gator and resellers panel which I think has good reseller plans. Resellerspanel has great profits and you get unlimited domains, a website to promote your company, 24/7/365 support, and marketing tools. Resellerspanel does not use cpanel though. They have their own site builder and control panel system which is a problem for clients who want or need cpanel. Host gator costs more than resellers panel, does not host as much space, but does come with cpanel. Would you recommend I use resellers panel, or any other hosting company. Pros- super low startup costs, just need to promote, work any hours Cons- a lot of competition, but hey, if you attract people to your site first and they like your plans, you get their sale. I would buy golf bags, clubs, shoes, etc. Wholesale, and dropship them to customers on my website. A Bing search of relevant subject matter gets a link to my site on page 1 or 2, but it's a total no-go with google. I can even type a unique quote from the site into google and google can't find it. I can easily get all of the scripts to make my website ideas, since I'm an expert at coding and programming. 1. A website where users can list, buy, sell, auction, or trade websites and/or domains. Sign up would be free. Once the site gets a good reputation, I would then charge a small fee to list a website just so that the scammers would not want to post a scam. After a successful sale has been made, I would charge a small fee. The seller would be able to post a snapshot of the website, info, and the starting price for an auction and/or buy now price. There is some competition such as flippa.com, but hey, competition could be a good thing. If I can do something better than flippa, by either lowering fees, or adding features, people would want to come to my site. I would also sell ad space on the website. This idea is great because people are into the web flipping business, and many people want to run their own website in hard times like this. 2. A job website. I know, you think monster.com, but just read this please. Yes, it would be like monster.com. Employers and people wanting a job could sign up for free. At first, I would not charge anything to post a job opening to get many listings up on the site, but once the site gets going, I would then charge a small fee to employers to list the job that is open at their company. People wanting jobs have cool features such as a resume creator. They would then be able to find a job they like, post their resume, and the employer would be able to select anyone he wants for the job. I would also sell ad space on the site. Although sites like this exist such as monster, just like in the previous idea, if I can do something better than monster, i would get more visitors. This is a great idea since many people are looking for jobs now a days. They want an easy solution to get hired. 3. This next idea is a pay pal type of site. I know you are thinking that all of my ideas already exist, but listen, almost every idea in the world already has more than one person doing them. Think, pay pal was first, then came virtualgold and epay which were copies of pay pal, but now are making 5k a day! Even if an idea already exists, you can still do it if you make your site better in some way. So the site would allow users to sign up for an account using a credit card, and would be able to pay using their account. I would first have to gain peoples trust using the site so they will be willing to give up their credit card info to use. The basic idea is virtual money. 4. This site would be a image hosting site. Sort of like imageshack. Users would be able to upload their photos to a secure server, and store the photos. If they are out of town and they need a photo for let's say a job offer,they can log into their account on the site, and access any photo. I would have a free upload where users can store x gb of photos for free, and i would also have larger plans which cost fees. Once photos are uploaded, they could be edited with the photo editor, sent to family and friends, or stored. Photo storage is a great thing since if a hard drive crashes, house fire, or something happens to your photos, you will have a backup on the site and your memories will be safe. I would also sell ad space on the website. 5. This would be a website for questions and answers. It would be just like this site, except it would have multimedia questions by video and or audio. I'm not a huge fan of this idea since YouTube is the leader and so is yahoo answers, but it's an idea. I would sell ad space. 6. My last idea would be a real estate portal where buyers, sellers, and agents, could sign up for free and sellers could post their house for sale or rent on the site for a fee. I would also sell ad space. Overall, I love the job site, marketplace for websites, virtual money, and the photo hosting site. I am not sure which idea out of all of the ideas could be the most profitable. I know someone is going to say that I need to have something unique, but I'm just trying to find out which idea out of these is most profitable. From what I've read, iPage, JustHost, and HostMonster are three of the best. From what I've read, though, a lot of their hype comes from their simplicity tools. I don't really need a website builder, free forums or blogs, or any of that- I know my way around enough to build my own site without any help. Pricing is another thing- if the cost of web hosting is going to be a problem, then my site is already failing at serving its purpose of making money. So what I'm really looking for is reliability, high support and few limits (I thought about goDaddy, but for their price you still have limits on space, bandwidth, databases, etc.), and easy hosting (not just a bunch of features that only make it easy if you want everything done for you).webs.com is a sitebuilder, though. I'm perfectly capable of (and would prefer to) building my own site, I want reliable web hosting and don't want to pay extra for site building. Even if it's not extra, there's a lot of sites that make things really easy with a site builder but overly complicated if you choose not to use it. more
