Voting Question: Can an iPod play .avi divx videos without conversion?

I had a beloved Creative Zen Vision M 60 GB that recently ran out on it's 9th life. I'd like to get an iPod product because their accessories are so widely available. But first I need to know: Can iPod products play videos that are .AVI extension, encoded with DivX or XVid? If not, what portable mp3 players DO play these videos WITHOUT conversion? Please note: I'm not looking for info on how to convert. I know how, I just don't want to. more

I have an ipod now, and i'm really tired of it, because I can only use itunes to sync music, and I can't transfer music from my ipod to my computer without paying for some stupid software. I'm fed up with apple, and the only thing stopping me from getting something obscure is because those things only have 2GB of memory. I have a lot of music and would like to find an mp3 and video player without software limitations and a large memory, around 60 GB or more. more

I have an Ipod 16 gb nano that I ra out of space on within a week. I had a 60 gb Ipod video (5th gen.) that I was thinking of selling to get a 120 gb classic but with the reviews i've read about them, it sounds like the quality of the two big MP3 player companies (Zune, Ipod) have lowered drastically. I'm looking for an MP3 player that holds a lot of music (60 gb or more), has the best sound quality, and won't break within a year of proper care. I could care less about looks or features. I never watch movies or play games or add photos. I just like to listen to music. It doesn't matter to me if the MP3 player is thick as long as it will fit in a large pocket. more

ive had the: sansa m230 ipod video 60 gb 5.5 generation and now currently using a 4gb sansa clip that i got for 35 bucks on black Friday =) of course i used my upstage phone and sidekick to listen to music in the time between my transition from my ipod to my sansa clip. so what about you guys? more

Voting Question: Is there an MP3 player other than the iPod that can display lyrics?

Preferably as part of an ID3 tag, and it doesn't have to be synchronized. This is a really important factor for me in deciding which MP3 player to get. I'm thinking about getting a 8 GB SanDisk Sansa Fuze because it's a lot cheaper than an iPod nano, esp. with a $40 off coupon from Costco. However, I don't think the Fuze can display lyrics, so I might have to get an iPod after all... do you think the tradeoff is worth it if I get an 16 GB iPod nano for $190 rather than a $60 8GB Sansa Fuze? And money notwithstanding, which do you think is the better player overall? Sound quality/headphone quality/build/interface/video? It really annoys me when I can't tell what the singer is singing (which is often)... and it takes away from my enjoyment of the music. Also, sometimes when they are singing in a foreign language I like to be able to read the original lyrics and the translation. So if you know any other MP3 players other than iPods that can display lyrics, please tell! more

Resolved Question: Am I forced into using iTunes to manage my iPod Touch media library?

I am a windows user and I really hate how much CPU is used with iTunes. I really liked Mediamonkey when I had my older iPod because of the auto-tagging id3 tags and artwork (and also organized my folders and mp3 filenames well). Unfortunately I don't believe they fully support the iTouch (and definitely not with the new software). What other suggestions do you have that could organize my library (around 60 GB of videos and mp3s)? limewire is a spware p2p application that sucks; please dont waste my time (if you are interested in that p2p network without that spyware/bloatware use FrostWire) gtkpod doesnt work with windows and doesnt support the ipod touch, but thanks anyway. I really cant believe there aren't more people answering, it seems like there should be people as frustrated as me that have an itouch and dont want to use itunes!!! more

My "specifics": I wanted to have more than 30gb of space. Video is not that imprtant to me. COST IS. Wanted Flash memory. Don't like Itunes. Do want that wi-fi feature though that's on the touch. The inch of depth on the Vision is kind of big... But i believe the zen's have built in speakers? I heard the SD slots suck though so I shouldn't bank on that from creative zens. If it played music that'd be nice. Any thoughts? suggestions? other MP3 players? I would like sort of an SD feature (a GOOD one), but that's not imperative, so if anyone knows of a player that has a good one and meets my "requirements"-- please let me know. Here are the attributes to the mp3 I would like: -internet access via wifi, not just the zune stuff -ability to download videos -sound quality -at least 60 gb maybe 80 I heard the archos 605 is good, but I don't want any type of Ipod. so i know an ipod is supposedly where it's at, but my mp3's are not in itunes. i have been through 2 players in 3 years, both of which died about a year after having them. one an ilo the other an rca. i don't need 10 gb and picture and video capability. all i need is something that will play a song and give me the title, and won't die within a year. i don't want to buy an ipod because i don't use itunes, so what is my next best option? creative seems good, but i've also heard that they die too? so do i bite the bullet and buy and ipod and $2000 worth of itunes, or do i buy a new player every other year for $60? more

I bought an mp3/mp4player from computer city supercenter on the web, "the compuer city inc. com" let me tell you they suck, and never return your calls and have a wall of china to return their crap back. So im stuck, - the computer does not recognize the ipod, - the official craps name is a 60 GB mp4 5 gerneration with video White. It gives a discription like as if God himself would use it. but its crap. Now, my computer is not the best in the world but it does not even recognize it when i plug it in?? so how can i get my computer to recognize this crap so I can format it, and maybe be able to use it. Resolved Question: Which MP3 player should I go for?

I'm desperately trying to get an Mp3 player with more than 32MB, the one I have now, but dont know which one to get. An iPod would be nice, but I know there's GOT to be something cheaper. I cant see myself using any more than 6 GB, so I dont want the 30GB video players, I just need something simple, preferably with a colorful backlit screen and good user interface I can get through without looking at the screen (after getting used to it, of course). Size doesnt much matter, a hold button would be nice, but I dont want to pay any more than $60, though I may have to. Again, video playing isnt necessary, I dont need much space, about 6GB should suffice. Have any suggestions?I saw on eBay, there are some 6GB players for roughly $70, $80. Is that the only place I'd get some for a low price like that? more

I am concidering buying an ipod (specifically the 60GB w/ video) but after reading this article: http://aol.smartmoney.com/10things/index.cfm?story=june2006 I am now unsure. Numbers 3-6 and number 10 were the ones that I'm really concerned about. Is it true you can't put any music on your ipod that is not iTunes (I have mix CDs that I would like to transfer on it)? And is the ipod really worth it? Is there any portable MP3 player that is something like or better than the ipod? The thing is I like the capabilities the ipod has like the video playing, 60 GB, and its color screen. And I also like the way it looks (especially the click wheel). Any advice or experiences with ipod? more
