Open Question: iPod Video Problem: Replaced battery but?

So I just got a 60GB 5th Gen ipod off ebay that said it just needed a new battery. So, I opened it up, replaced the battery and yeah, it worked. Connected it to my computer and it froze. It wasn't responding to a forced reset . . . sooo the only thing I knew to do was to disconnect the battery. Reconnected it, seemed to be working fine again. It has been freezing up a few times and now when I connect it to a power source to be charged, it comments that it has a very low battery and that I should wait. But even on that screen it freezes. And if I restart it without connecting it to a battery source. it shows the apple screen and then just a black bright screen. Do you think that they battery connection just isn't secure enough? Last thing, the area around the click wheel (so front panel) seems to be running unusually warm. Should I be worried about that? more

ok so last night my ipod stopped working, as in it told me i had 0 songs while i had over 1000, and would not allow me to connect it to the computer (reset itself over and over until i unplugged it) so i called apple support, long story short firmware corruption, minimum $100 to fix it, prob around $200. i have decided to buy a brand new ipod. i will buy it on tuesday. ipod touch- too much money right now. i was thinking ipod nano 5th gen? blue? hmm.... what do you think? what ipod should i get (besides touch)? oh and also, can you tell me what games each ipod has on it to begin with? like the nano 5th gen? i have no idea, and i really want to know. so here are my opitions, please tell me the games included in them: classic nano shuffle touch video mini and ya. what do you think??alright so, ot selling it on ebay. im just not. it was nano 4th gen. sorry forgot to mention that. if i connect it to the computer it does nothing, so thats out of the question. i have tried resetting it, nada. i have tried connecting it to another computer, same thing. also have reinstalled and updated itunes. nothing. answers??? more

okay so i got a brand new ipod nano video from someone.. it was still in the package and everything and im 100% positive that it had never been used. it wont turn on, it just doesnt do anything. i tried holding down the middle and menu buttons for 30 seconds and it didnt work. when i try to charge it on my computer, it goes to the screen with the apple on it for like 5 seconds then turns off, then goes back to the screen and turns back off again and keeps doing that. my itunes or computer doesnt recognize it as even being plugged in. for some reason it worked one time, and i was able to get all of my songs onto it, i dont know why it worked that time though, i didnt do anything different. but when i charge it on my docking station, it says that its charging and it goes on. but as soon as i take it off the docking station, it turns off and wont turn back on again. PLEASE help me , i really want it to work :( thank you sooo much to whoever answers. (please dont say "i dont know") more

Last night I was doing the iQuiz on my video iPod that's 120 GB and all the sudden it went to disc mode for unknown reason. But then it when to the apple logo. Then it went to the screen that has me select a language, and after I select "English" it goes to the normal menu and say I have absolutely nothing on my iPod but it also says I have 0KB free. When I plug it in to my computer, it doesn't show the device on iTunes so I can't restore it. I have used the center+menu button over and over again but the same thing happens. What do I do?? more

I got an Ipod touch and I do like it. It's a little portable computer, just like a wanted. But to be honest, I'm kind of tired of the crap I have to put up with Apple to have it (no flash, no non-Youtube videos, no third party apps, etc). The only reason I got this one, as opposed to, say, a Blackberry, is because I do not need, nor do I want, a phone function. I don't want to pay extra, as well as on a monthly basis for something I'm not going to use. So, are there any IPhone-like devices, without the phone? more

Alright so last night I was using my ipod off the charge, no big deal, watching videos, listening to much, the usual. I plug it into my ihome to charge for the night, and it showed it was charging. I woke up this morning and I went to go play music, and the Ipod was off. I go to turn it on, and the apple symbol shows up like normal, then after 10-20 seconds, the Ipod turns off. I did the power and home button reset, and I also tried to plug it into my computer, it will no longer charge or even turn on. Any help? more

Resolved Question: Can I use my ipod touch and a microphone to record songs?

I'm a little irritated at apple because they don't have a lot of my favorite J-rock and J-pop music. More specifically, music from artists that do the opening and ending songs for Bleach and other anime series. When I had a Creative mp3 player, I could use the built in mic to record my favorite japanese songs from youtube videos by placing it next to a computer speaker. Can I do the same thing with the ipod touch if I can get the mic to go with it? I ask this because the import cds are way to expensive for me. If not, is there any method, besides limewire or similar programs, that I can utilize that won't flood my computer with viruses? more

I called apple today because my Ipod touch was acting weird, and they informed me that I needed to restore my ipod to factory settings. My music, photos, videos, I already have backed up on my computer and on itunes. The only thing I don't have backed up are my applications/games that I've purchased .... OKay so on my computer i had my itunes library with tons of songs and such. My computer crashed and we werent able to save all the music. I have a majority of the music on my ipod still. I think it's a disappointment. Apple just wanted to make some fast money by throwing together something marketable without creativity. Apple should be working on creating a Laptop computer the size of an IPAD! Or if not that, why can't apple create a device the size of an IPAD that runs on windows and Norton Ghost, and can act as a photocopy of a laptop's internal harddrive? Dear Answerers, My iPod has stopped working, for a while now, it has being refusing to charge, turning charge mode on and off, linked up via. The USB Port on the Windows Computer. I took my iPod to the Apple store, and the man i spoke to, linked the iPod with a DIFFERENT usb cable and via a DIFFERENT laptop, his Apple Macbook. He left it for 5 minutes to charge, and I beleived I had my iPod back. Around 3 minutes later, the battery life what was on my iPod, had died and my iPod back in its 'dead' state. Resolved Question: My Itunes Rental refuses to play?

I recently bought The Hangover in itunes a week ago and today I wanted to play it on my computer. But, as soon as I clicked play, the screen went black and I sat there for 5 minutes watching a black screen. No sound, no video. I couldn't escape or do anything so I manually shut my computer off. When I manually turned it back on I went back to itunes and tried playing it in quicktime but to little avail. It was just a green screen, no sound and no video. I fast forwarded it and rewinded it, but still...green screen. I was getting frustrated. So I clicked out and tried opening it with windows media maker but apparently wmm does not take that file extension. I even tried the vlc player but all I saw was a screenshot of Bradley Cooper with no sound or anything. I had some hope, some video! But, it didn't work. No matter how many times I tried replaying, it didn't work. My last problem is that my ipod refuses to sync the damn video. I try dragging it to my ipod, but it doesn't work. Should I try to reload my purchase, or is it beyond fixing? Should I contact apple? I'm running out of time on my rental and I really wanna watch the Hangover. :/ more

I just got an iPod Nano for Christmas (this isn't the time to criticize apple's products) and I wanted to see how the quality of the camera on it was. However, whenever I sync my iPod with my computer, it first asks me to insert a disk. Any option I click does nothing. Then a little while after, a menu will come up asking me if I want to see the movies in a file, or with Windows Media Player. Ok this is what happened, my 80gb video ipod was working fine (besides a few glitches and the fact that it was a little slow some times) Then I connected it to A computer to charge, and this computer had no monitor, but that shouldn't matter, but I don't know the state of the computer. Then it went into disk mode and it said "DO NOT DISCONNECT" but I really had to go...so I turned the computer off and as soon as I did it said "OK to disconnect" but it was stuck like that (since its in disk mode) so I reset it, But then it was just stuck in reset mode, and it was incredibly irritating. It just showed the apple logo for awhile, then it like shut off, and when it shut off it made a clicking noise. Then it would turn back on and just repeat. Please help, how can I save my ipod?The middle and menu buttons are my reset buttons, that doesn't work, the reset is what I'm stuck in. I've tried the middle and the rewind button and did all t hat, what can I do? more

I dropped my ipod touch in the toilet by having it in my back pocket, after like 10 seconds i got it out. While it was in there though it blinked on and off about 2 times. I left it in rice for about a day and then tried to turn it on, idk if i should have. But it turned on to the black screen with the apple. I could still see all the water in it so i put it back in rice for another day. After that i plugged it up and the apps screen came on, my computer detectedit and it did the whole restore process, but wwasn'tresponding to touch. There was still a little water in it that i ddidn'tsee before so i turned it off and put it back in rice. This was all about a month and a half ago, its been left in rice ever since. I finally got it back yyesterdayand plugged it up to my computer and it did the restore process over again, i looked at videos on how to get the screen to rrespond again and all of them included cracking my ipod open. Voting Question: My iTunes won't recoginize my iPod. Any help?

I have an 80GB iPod video silver (don't see why the colour is of any importance), and my iTunes won't recognize it. Its not the version of iTunes, as I update it everytime an update is available. And I won't reboot my computer, as there is a problem inside the iPod. There is an Apple store near my house, where they can send it away, but I want to see if there is any help on the internet first. Resolved Question: Problem with my iPod Touch 8g?

I recently had this problem with my iPod Touch 8g (I got it on christmas, so it isn't that old.) I got this one to replace the old one i had (same model, everything worked fine until the motherboard snapped in half and wouldn't work) and my dad got an Apple Care thing that works for three years (my dad told me that it would repair any type of problem on the ipod, unless it was completely broken OR had been jail-broken) just in case anything of the sort happened again. So, yesterday, I was going to sync my old apps and music with my new ipod. I synced old photos, videos, music, and apps. I did not sync any movies, and my iPod didn't have maximum captivity. So I was all happy because all of my settings were back to the way they were. I wanted to try out a new app that I had bought. I tapped it, it opened for about 2 seconds, then it went back to the home screen. I was confused, thinking that it was only with that app. I deleted it, re-installed it, and the same thing happened. I thought that only that app had the problem, so I tried an app that I had recently recovered from my old ipod. (NOTE: My old iPod did not have any TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES, it just broke from a horrible fall down the stairs.) The same thing happened. I tried with an app that I had before, and guess what happened-- it wouldn't open. I got frustrated, especially because it was new and there was nothing wrong with it the same afternoon. I moved back all my information to my computer (which has plenty of space on it) and restored it. moved one app over to my ipod and tried it. It wouldn't open. So I deleted all of my apps, and tried it on the ones that came with the iPod (calendar, mail, contacts, clock, safari, youtube, and notes.) That worked fine. I could access Safari, and do all of the crap that nobody really does. Is there any way to fix this without going all the way to the Apple store and having them fix it for you? Also, it the number of Gs on it the problem?When you say "reset" does that mean turning it off? more

Resolved Question: iPod Video(classic) won't sync? Plus more issues.?

Out of the blue my iPod decides its not going to sync with my computer. I put new music on, it says its on on the computer, but once unplugged the new music is not there. That's just the beginning. Even though I hated it I restored it(deleting 1600 songs) and started putting new songs on it. Ok for a while. Got about 200 songs and unplugged it. Next day go to put more on. freezes my computer to the point where in order for it to do anything I had to unplug my iPod. Once the iPod unfroze I noticed that the 200 songs were once again deleted. restored it yet again. Everything was going good until...Got to about 300 songs this time and it stopped syncing. Ejected it safely, but songs were missing. i got like a little message at the bottom of my iPod saying I should connect to iTunes and restore(this has never happened to me before). So i plug it in to restore it yet again, but the iTunes doesn't even recognize it. Go to my computer and look for it. It's there, but when I click on it to open its files windows tells me: The disk in drive E is not formatted. and asks if I would like to format it. I try that, but then it tells me that the disk in drive E cannot be formatted. this whole time my iPod screen is white and flashing: Do not disconnect.. like it would normally, but in black and white version, with like generic text. When I eject it it ejects safely, but remains white with a little checkmark saying safe to disconnect and it doesn't shut off, it just stays white. Let me tell you, I am about two seconds away from chucking this iPod at the makers of Apple and denouncing all iPods forever. I've never had so many problems with an iPod before and wouldn't you know it my warranty like just expired. Please help. more

Don't do it.. with 3.1.2 the ONLY jailbreak that works is blackra1n and thats a dirty tethered jailbreak (on late 2nd gen ipods, all 3rd gen ipods and iphone 3GS - other earlier models should be untethered by now on RC No 3 (dec 09) version) meaning if you reset your ipod or it crashed it wont restart until you connect it back to the computer and blackra1n.. Jail breaking also voids the warranty and does cause many issues from files vanishing, memory leaks and loss, rebooting and even failing to boot. Also once its jailbroken you can only add jailbroken or copy protection free media or apps as its altered the boot code and NOT recognised as a valid ipod on iTunes so wont load (from itunes on the computer) NEW apps and NEW protected items (apps, video or DRM music). YOU CAN load itunes Plus music and stuff you import from CD or MP3 or AAC files etc... or try and use apps store or itunes on the device itself!! go to the site you got the jailbreak from for their links for apps if thats your thing. NEVER JAILBREAK its NOT worth the effort or the RISK. you know that 75% of jailbreaks fail! either immediately or after a few restarts - this will require a restore in itunes and reapplication of a jailbreak - however if your'e unlucky a restore in itunes will NOT fix it and its bricked and dead (probably 5 to 10% suffer this) if you have a PC and its doesn't restore get a friend who has a mac to try as sometimes that can work! the 2.2 or 3.1 software from apple is stable and works well and lets you add hundreds of apps (many free) from the itunes App Store, many with features available in jailbroken items. Jailbroken ipods cause so many problems (just search on here for them). It alters the boot code so its not really an ipod at all. and for this reason I advise people NOT to jailbreak unless they can afford to replace the unit!! Jail breaking effectively became redundant when the 2.0 software was released as it add almost nothing useful to the ipods abilities (other than the ability to browse its file structure which also makes it less secure - the common risk only if you have the SSH added and don’t change your password then hackers can read and erase your device at will or add items without your knowing) also jailbreaking removes many system security features making it open to trojans (see news) and any files you have on it by ‘say’ air-sharing app etc will be hackable too! it WILL also result in IM apps giving your messages to everyone with the same jailbreak on the same network (and you getting their replies) as jailbreaking removes the unique encryption key to each device and places it with a common one for that jailbreak. naturally by removing the encryption key its possible hack into a jailbroken ipod on the same network as the hacker (assuming they know the key) and read your files.. it also allows malicious apps such as 113prep to be loaded which then kill many files on your system. Best option is to remove the jailbreak by restoring the ipod on your computer but NOT connected to internet and make sure you have a full power USB2 port as low power laptop ports can cause the restore to fail and kill the ipod. So... with itunes running reset your ipod (its the home and power key until screen goes blank with dark apple logo). then as soon as the screen lights up connect it to computer. more

Voting Question: I can't restore my iTouch. It freezes when I try to restore the settings from my backup.?

My iPod had the settings restored and all. Then, it said my iPod was done, but the bar under the apple (on the touch screen) indicating the progress was frozen. I unplugged the ipod from the computer and manually shut it down. 5 minutes later I tried turning it on again. The apple came up, and then the progress bar popped up. It started to load (or the bar started to "fill") but then froze again. The iPod will not go to the home screen. AT ALL. I have tried turning it on and off several times, but the same thing happens. The screen stays on, frozen. And will not turn off or go to the home screen. I went into DFU mode and fully restored my system. Then, iTunes suggested that I restore my iPod from my backup (that was what I wanted to do). However, the iPod says, "Restore complete," and then shuts down. It restarts, and for some reason the apple pops up with the little downloading bar. The bar fills about a quarter of the way and then freezes. Then, on iTunes, songs and videos begin to load onto my iPod-- as it were syncing normally. But it is, in fact, still frozen. I've spent 3 hours now, trying the same process over and over, and I'm starting to feel like tearing out my hair. If anyone has any insight or has encountered this problem before, I would be very greatful. Any input is appreciated. Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Windows 7 + iTunes = Blue Screen of Death?

iTunes, any and every version I've used with my iPod Classic 80GB, has worked on Windows XP & Vista. Since upgrading to Windows 7 Home Premium (having changed nothing else), anytime I try to sync my 80GB Classic or brand new Nano 16GB, I get a blue screen and immediate restart. I've tried doing the recommended things from Apple's trouble-shooting and a few others (including installing older versions of iTunes, different USB slots, cables to connect and some suggestions I've found in Googling) to no avail. I'm getting frustrated. I don't know what to do and it feels like there's no fix until maybe there's a new iTunes or new 7 patch or something. If someone can point me in the right direction to the proper fix., whether it be fixing iTunes or the quick fix of an alternative program (that allows you to move songs, video, etc. to your iPod and play them while connected to your computer), I'd really appreciate it. I just got an iPod touch, love it, hate the iTunes software. My computer is fuuull of movies, downloaded, burned, copied from home DVD collection, etc. No way in heeeeell am I gonna go repurchase them from the istore for 20$+ each or whatever. I read that i can just drag and drop, copy paste, or go to file add file to library for each video into the iTunes movies section, none of this works, don't suggest it. There not protected or locked or any of that crap either. I never get an error message when trying to add them, nothing. Straight up nothing happens. It fiiiinally donned on me, all my videos are .wmv or .avi format, apple uses that pain in the ass QuickTime. So do I have to convert all the videos before iTunes will recognize them? If so, what format must they be converted to, and does anyone recommend a good FREE software that won't screw up my originals? I got a Ipod Touch today and I was about to sync it up into my Macbook until this sign pops up and tells me I have to download itunes 9.0 for it to succesfully sync. So I downloaded it and it refuses to open!! Im afraid it has deleted all my songs and videos! It just bounces a couple times in my doc when I click on the itunes app and wont open! I searched this into google and seems like a couple other people have been having this problem as well. Some people are saying you just have to do updates on your laptop..
