I bought an iPod off eBay. It is a 30 GB Video, 5th Generation. It is a little dinged up. I connected it to iTunes and it recognized it, I decided to do a "restore" that way I wipe out all the old users settings / music. It said don't disconnect it, your iPod will appear in iTunes in a few seconds. I waited about 5 minutes, nothing happened. So I disconnected it and tried to turn it off, nothing happened. I reset it, and all it did was go back to the apple icon. And it is making weird clicking noises. Any suggestions / ideas? Thank you.Yes, I know. Shouldn't have bought it offline, I usually don't buy electronics off eBay. more

Voting Question: My Ipod 30 gb Video does not play sound out of the headphone jack or dock. It is something with the logicboard?

Rather than spend 50 dollar on a new logic board I am having an electrical technician do it for me. He has all of the equipment but cannot seem to locate the problem. It would really help if someone had any input from when they fixed theirs (a technician). Also a schematic of the logic board would help. Is it a problem with a component or the solders. And if it is which one? Or where is it located? Thanks in advance. And please if you are just gonna tell me to get a new logic board or call apple that is not a good answer. I just want answers from personal fixing experience.Thanks for your answer but Im talking about music even. It is definitley a problem with the logic board and I am trying to figure out which component I need to replace or which solder joint needs to be fixed, problem is I cannot locate it. I just found out Apple has released the iPod nano 5th generation w/ built in video recording capabilities. The 16gb nano is priced at $179.99, which is what I would look into to buy. Zen X-fi: Now the 16 gb Zen X-fi has FM radio w/ the ability to save 32 of your fav channels, sync contacts, tasks, and calendar info from Outlook to the device, it has instant msging, wireless podcast support, voice recording, x-fi audio (look it up if you don't know what it is) internal speakers, and, imo the best, the ability to expand your memory w/ an SD card. Which should I get?I really liked the original Zen, and I was alright w/ having to go to a separate menu for the SD card since all I'm gonna hold in there are extra movies. The build of the zen, imo, was actually pretty good. My original zen was dropped multiple times and would still play perfectly. iPod Shuffle: Added three new colors to the existing Silver and Black: Pink, Green, and Blue. And there's also a special thing: Stainless Steel Shuffle. Price drop for this one. Nothing in the exterior AND the interior have changed. iPod Nano: The most attention went to this one. Video camera, microphone, FM Radio, VoiceOver, bigger screen and 2 oz lighter (128 oz). Unfortunately, camera is only for video and contains no speakers. iPod Classic: Bigger capcity: 160 GB. No big deal... iPod Touch: 16GB discontinued. Now, we have 8, 32, and 64 GB's. Increase in speed, Price drops. Down side: DECREASE IN BATTERY LIFE! THIS IS MADNESS! Audio used to be 36 hours, now, 30 hours. Video still same: 6 hours. Oh, and ONLY the 32 and 64 GB Versions include a Microphone (new feature, unfortunately, no mic for 8GB). No camera, there were SO MANY rumors that I actually considered it a truth, but I don't blame Apple for this one, only the people who started the rumors. iTunes MAJOR UPDATE! I like it so far. But let's focus on the iPods for now. I didn't like the Keynote '09 for the iPod line '09. The ONLY things I found interesting were new features for the Nano. Overall: 2/5 Rating in my opinion. So, I have a Nano 4G. Do you think it's worth it to buy the current one? Thoughts on the iPod Touch? Shuffle? Classic? Well, I have a 30 gb 1st gen Zune. I loved it for a while, but now Windows is just making me angry, my family has recently gone to apple and I figure that with two macs and only one very slow and ancient P.C. it would make more sense to just get an iPod. Now, the question is, since I don't want to get a smaller screen via the nano, or the classic, is the iPod touch worth it? because based on my extensive collection of music and videos (15 gigs worth) I would need to spring for the 32GB touch if I wanted to utilize any applications or stuff like that. Do you think, since I am an incoming H.S. senior it would be worth it to get it now, or to wait until next summer before I head off to college? more

In the past, my ipod has told me to restore my ipod. after many times of restoring it, and it not working, it has told me that it was corrupted. I finally fixed this problem when i only did it on a specific computer. This was about a month ago. my 30 gb ipod video recently "died". i was using it with xp home, but i got a new laptop and its vista. when i plugged it in, an "update me" message popped up but while i was at it the battery ran out and the whole thing was left half-done. now when i try to charge it, it only charges up to the point where it no longer says "please wait, very low battery" then tries to open, it shows me an apple logo and after 2 seconds it goes down with a clicking sound. i really dont know what to do i dont want to take it to an apple store bc i dont have warranty anymore. is there something i can do at home?i cant connect it to a pc b/c it wont turn on. when i try connecting it, it starts the apple logo-click sound cycle again until i unplug it and it runs out of battery. more

I think the battery in my iPod is broken. It was smashed recently. It will not turn on. I tried restarting it (holding down the menu button and center button). But the apple logo will not pop up. When I plug it up to my computer it reads low battery and the computer will not recognize it. I had it plugged up to the computer for 3 days and still no change. I plugged it up to my wall charger and then it finally turns on and works but as soon as I unplugged it, it shut off. It seems to only work when it is plugged up to power source other than my computer. Is this just and battery problem and can be solved with a replacement battery? Or is it something more? more

Ok im gettin like $500+ for christmas I found an Ipod 32 GB Touch 1st gen for 330 Ipod touch 32 gb 2nd gen 380 16 gb is only offered in 2nd gen and is 299 of course if i were to get the 16 gb one id be stupid 30 bucks for double storage duh but then are their major differences worth 50 dollars? i tried my friends it was black on the back, curved too he had this basketball game on it, and was playing it on the bus idk whch gen. it was, but i liked its feel, and it was nice and fast/responsive so tell me 1st gen or second gen? and if you say second, can i make do with 16 gb of space? (i have like 5-6 gbs of music, want lots of games, and have 40+ movies, every south park episode, every scrubs episode, every house episode, every family guy episode, every ATHF episode i also plan to get probably about 10 more movies this makes me wonder if i should just get the 120 gb video for 249.99 is the touch worth the sacrifice? i know its a lot, but any ipod expert im sure can answer it all in a matter of 10 minutes maybe more

I'm pretty sure i have a first gen apple iPod video (30 gb). It's extremely slow (it takes a couple minutes to turn on/off sometimes and longer than it should to change screens.) It has a break in the screen right across the middle - not a physical break but almost... like on the inside. Sometimes it freezes up and it's battery, even if i charge it for days, will only last for half an hour to an hour and a half at most. I have to keep a case on it because the top screen part will break apart from the back part if i drop and i don't have it. Or if i don't drop it for that matter. And despite all of this I really like my old iPod. I call it Stuart. But really? Is it time for Stuart to go? more

Okay.... So my ipod video is about to croak on me, and I really want to get a Zune player, but I'm not sure if it's all that it's cracked up to be. My ipod video has really sucky battery life, and it's also splitting apart at the sides. I couldn't get through a movie because the fully-charged battery would die within the hour. Anyway, if I get a Zune, I'm probably going to get the Zune Pass, but I don't really know anything about it...What are the Pros and Cons of the Zune and Zune Pass? Should I get a Zune or some other mp3 player? I'm not getting another ipod because I have had so many problems with Apple. I have a 30 GB Video iPod, it freezes every time, I don't just mean once in a while, it's gotten to the point where I have to have someone take it out of my hands so I don't throw it across the room. If I'm lucky, I'll get to pick a song, and if I select another, well, nope; decides it's not going to play for me today. It makes a faint 'clicking' noise, every time I do the famed 'menu and select restart' it goes to the iPod support screen. I've tried the business card in the back, tried plugging it into another computer, tried restarting it, tried reinstalling iTunes. The last option is to take it to Apple. But let's face it, I'm a teenager w| out cash at the moment (I had a job, but I'm going on summer vacation) and I'd rather not bother w| Apple. Plus, I didn't buy it (No, I didn't steal it either). My friend gave it to me because he got an iPod touch, and I was happy, until I realized it rarely worked. -sigh- Any help would be appreciated, besides the mentioned above. more

Less than a year and a half ago I purchased the original iPod video 30 GB for $350. I never dropped it or got it wet, and last night, for no reason at all, the screen quit working. It will still play music but I cannot see anything but a blank screen. I was told the warranty was up so I would have to pay $130 to get it fixed (plus shipping and handling to have it sent to an Apple factory.) This incident has me looking for an alternative to anything Apple made. I want a good, long-lasting MP3 player capable of holding around 30GB of music and preferably video as well. However, memory is not the main issue. I just want an MP3 player than is reliable and worth the money. I've looked into Zunes as well as the Zen Vision. If you have any experience with these, or other MP3 players, please share your experiences with me. Thank you so much! more

I had a 30 Gb U2 Editions iPod Video, around 2 months ago I requested a warranty replacement (battery life was increadibly low). Well, I got a brand new iPod Video (yay for me...) until recently, I went to turn on my iPod, and it's dead. ok, i currently have a 30gb ipod video...... and i am planning to buy an ipod touch but the problem is the standard itouch has only 8gb ( iknow u can buy 16gb or 32 gb.. but for 100 dollars more too much) so my question is y has apple made such a huge memory jump from having ipod videos that have 30 or even 80 gb... to ipod touches with a small range from only 8-32 gb..?? Does anyone know if apple is planning to lower the itouch price or release a new generation of itouches or anything? more
