Voting Question: What is the best gaming laptop?

My finace is in the military and is currently at basic. He wrote me in a letter that he would like to invest in buying a laptop mainly for gaming.... playing WOW (world of warcraft). One of the other guys there who is supposedly a real computer nerd told him that the ASUS G Series Quad core is the best bang for your buck. Basically I am not really into gaming and have no clue where to start researching what is best. I want to get him a good laptop that performs well but also does not empty our bank account. So basically what is the best gaming computer, and anything under $1000 would be wonderful! I personally have always had apple computers, and currently upgraded with a scholarship to a macbook pro, so i am pretty much pc illiterate. Thank you soo much!! more

I'm looking to get a new computer in about 2 months (for my b'day) but I'm having trouble trying to find the one I would like. I'm having a few difficulties, one I'm trying to keep it below $1000, more like $850 would be nice. I've looked at Dell mostly, due to my almost 6-year old Dimension 4700's been good to me for the most part, though if I can get more for the money from a different brand I'm not complaining. . My main purposes for the computer are games (Runescape, Guildwars, Unreal, Farcry), movies, and music which my current computer does fairly well on low-medium settings, but it being 6-years old its been getting some irritating problems which I "can" fix for awhile, but they come back after a few days/weeks so I'm tired of fixing them...And windows 7 looks nicer than Xp, plus I've been avoiding some things because my computer just can't handle it... So a few years ago, I got an hp laptop because I has saved up enough money for one. About almost 2 years later, someone how the screen became disconnected and the screen wires got all messed up. The warranty was up, so My parents got me an Acer Aspire 5315 for Christmas then, Christmas 2008. Sometime in 2009, my laptop started to not work, so my mom sent it back to the company and they replaced my hard drive. I Play some online games on my laptop and it run very slow because i only have about 11 gb of memory left on my hard drive. I was looking at laptops on Best Buy.com and there are some for about 300 or 400 dollars and have about 250gb hard drive memory. My computer only has 68.8 gb of hard drive memory. I was thinking that did not seem right. I could not find the paper work, so I looked it up online. The Acer website said my laptop could have had up to about 200gb of hard drive memory. I only have 68.8. I think when Acer replace my hard drive, they reduced my hard drive or gave me too small of one. I need more room for my iTunes and my files and 68.8 is not enough. My mom and I are looking for the paper work to show Acer that i do not have the right sized Hard drive. I would like to know if they would replace my hard drive with the correct sized for my computer for free if we shoow them the hard drive and paper work? Or would i have to buy a new one? How much would the new one be? Like at least 250 gb hard drive? Or should I just drop the acer and buy an hp or Dell or something else at Best Buy? I have about $550 saved up for nothing yet, but I would not mind using it to buy a new laptop for myself. I have only have this computer for like 1 1/2 years. Its like really young but I am mad with it because it doesn't have enough space. My mom says she is going to make me wait at least 1 year before I can get a new one. But if you think I should get a new laptop, tell me what you suggest thats under $550 and has a good sized hard drive, at least 200gb. No Mac books. My brother and I would like to purchase the same exact computer to stay in all fairness. He plays 3d games such as spore, sims3, combat arms, and many more online flash games. We would like laptops preferably because we move between houses and have the need for that slightest bit of portability. We both agree that a 15 inch screen is the smallest we would like, at a preferable resolution of 1600 x 900. We also believe that 4 gigs of ram is at the bare minimum the least we need. We like the core i5 520 and we see that the 430 is simply too weak. We need a dedicated video card preferably gddr5, but gddr3 may have to be a necessary sacrifice in order to keep the price under $1000 usd. I am looking for a laptop. Want to help me find the perfect one? I'm a photographer, so I want the screen to be brilliant so I can show clients their photographs. I am a student, so I need all the basics - no netbook. I am actively artistic so I use photoshop, pinnacle studio, etc all the time in my work and playtime, so it needs to be fast. I would like to buy a quality core i5 or i7 laptop for under 1000 dollars. Here is the list of things that I definitely want... core i5 or better, 15 in diagonal or more, no more than 7 lbs., 3+ gb ram, better than average graphics card, DVD read and write, 350+ GB hard drive, built in webcam, wifi, 3+ USB 2.0 ports, 1+ HDMI port, Win 7 OS, bluetooth The Samsung r580 has all this except for the bluetooth built in which I could live without. Plus it has a Blu-Ray drive, one more USB/eSata port, 4 GB ram, 500 GB hard drive The cost of the r580 at best buy right now is $830. Based on my research I believe this is the best bang for my buck for a sub $1000 laptop right now. What I'm not sure of is how soon other good core i5 laptops are coming out and whether or not they'll be able to compete in specs and pricing. I know the ULV i5 processors are coming out in June. These will be nice since they'll increase the battery life of powerful laptops. Does anyone know how much this will likely add to the cost of the laptops they are in? Am i able to return it since it's been under 6 months and get my money back? I am incredibly disappointed. The computer is too small. hey yall. ill be frank. i need a new laptop. im 15 and i've been sharing this fujitsu laptop with my dad in his room. Im looking for a laptop that is fast(hehe i might play a few games on it so i dont want lag, gonna stay quiet in front of my dad though cuz he hates games), good processor, and good design(i dont care about weight or size, besides i rather want a big laptop because theres another fujitsu laptop in my house thats like so small, and i was impressed by its size but its even SLOWER than this! can u imagine? lol) so please give me the laptop name so i can look it up and the best store. thanks a lot guys. more

Ok so I'm looking for a good store w/ good deals on notebook computers. I looked throught walmart and costco and best buy, but I dunno...is there somewhere better? I need a decently-priced (under $1000, maybe including tax), decent, fast, and sleek-looking 17" laptop...whether it be made by HP or Toshiba or whatever. I'm mostly gonna' get it for some gaming. I'm thinking Modern Warfare 2, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and Assassin's Creed II. I dunno...what do you think: is it possible? Could I get a decent laptop that can run- and to some extent, run well, not just meet the requirements and lag- these game for under $1000? I would prefer one w/ intel core 2 duo (at least 2.2 GHz) and at least 4 GB of memory and GOOD graphics card, like one that's supported by most games. You know, all the standards of decent laptops these days...keep in mind I wanna be able to play and enjoy at least one of the games I mentioned above. Is there a good 17" laptop out there that can do these and be under $1000? more
