Resolved Question: How can I cut costs so I can save more money?

So my bf and I make pretty decent wages, but we aren't very smart with our money. There are times when we use our debit card 10 times a day OR MORE!!! It's nuts! It's not uncommon for us to spend $500 a week on misc stuff? My take home is $2000 a month, my hubby is around $3500-$4000 a month. On Average we bring in $6000 a month. We pay $1300/month Rent $160/month on Health Care/Benefits $50/month Hydro $150/month Internet/Cable/Home phone $300/month on our cell phones (which we use for work) $160/month on Transit passes $600/month on groceries (Those are all the necessities) Now the rest of the moola?!?!?!?! Goes to ??? Anything else? We have no debt thankfully, which is a blessing! We have $2500 in Savings..... which also seems to be depleting too? (when we run out we dip into savings which is HORRIBLE but we only dip into to savings for our necessities) What we really really need is some money management! Mind you we did spend some big ticket items recently, we just bought a laptop, and a new home computer (Again these are NEEDED for work) We also purchased a PS3 and bought hundreds of $'s worth of video games and movies in the last 4 or 5 months, which has come to "somewhat" of a stop since we have a lot now. I suppose we aren't hurting but I know we could do A LOT better! We are adopting our niece who is 4 months old and will be needing to pay $1100 a month for her daycare... so we are needing to budget for her, not to mention her food, diapers, toys, clothes, strollers, etc. so I would like to get a hang on this BEFORE she comes and then it stresses me out. I wanted to get an opinon on this. I would ask an expert but most of the time they want to sell you crap you dont need for commission. I use my current computer to surf, email, games, facebook. I store all my pictures on it too. I create Mircrosoft word documents too. The only time I will actually take it somewhere is on vacation. Otherwise size doesnt matter. I will probably want to watch dvds on it too. I will have a printer hooked up to it and sometimes my digital camera to download pics. Mouse too. I would appreciate any help. Thanks. ok I'm 19 I am moving to a single apartment.. I need some help with decorating, and I'm on a budget. It has a kitchen area and a some space ahead of it. It is covered with a carpet http://www.oldgincarpets.com/images/item… here is the color a bit darker though) I can't change it or damage it. (I know it's a gloomy color but we'll work for it.) the walls and everything else is white. The kitchen table is attached and is marbelish color same shade as the carpet. The doors for walk in closet is wooden(it comes with the apartment.) I have a wooden rectangular coffee table table table with designed drawers under it. I have a mirror and a drawers under, a small worderobe with a mirror on both doors, a bookshelf with drawers under. a computer table, a printer, and a laptop. I also have a wooden smaller table for the tv but I just got a widescreen tv hanging from cealing. and put a nice vase in ther (but didn't feel it in. I also have couple of framed pictures/painting (most of them are small and black and white) I also have bunch of vases with nothing in them. By the way the wooden items are in different shades of wood and used so I would probably need painting them (color ideas?) I also have a sofa and armchair( light gray Milky color). and one brown sofa I was wandering if you could give me some creative ideas for decorating. I am on a budget, so can't spent more than 100$ how can I use the vases to combine the different colors, how to make the room less gloomy any poster ideas? anything you think will help please write.. more

Voting Question: People really computer smart, my sister just bought this "router" along with her laptop at Best Buy last night?

The both of us went to Best Buy last night to buy her a laptop for school and the guy seemed really helpful. He asked her what she would be needing it for, and numerous other helpful questions to help figure out what would best suit her budget and her needs. She also made sure to ask if all of them would be able to hook up to Wi-Fi and he assured her that every laptop already has that feature. So we get to the checkout and he rang her up, then goes on about she needs a router to be able to connect to the internet. So he goes off, while we wait at the checkout, and grabs this box thing that I guess is a router, and tells us that we just install it in both computers, our home computer and her laptop, in whichever order first, and it will be really super easy and install and work. So we get home and she tries it in her laptop and everything was okay, then we tried it in our home computer and it didn't work at all? I'm not sure exactly what router it was, but it says it is for Windows Vista, her new laptop is Windows 7, and our home computer is Windows Vista. I don't see why it shouldn't work unless he sold us the wrong product maybe to make a few extra bucks on commission? I would like to know what you pros think about this story and if it seems fishy, or if we did something wrong? Also, should we return the product or have them install it? If so, how would we go about having them install everything for her? Thank you and I am really sorry this question is so long. more

Open Question: College student needs help selecting a durable laptop?

I'm a college student looking to buy a new laptop. Budget is under $2000, but I would definitely like to pay less than that amount for something that will last me a long time. I do a lot of photo editing, minor sound editing (editing my lecture recordings from class), but I would like to also edit video. My current laptop and old desktops can't handle all of this. I will be doing the usual email + internet browsing.I'm assuming I will need lots of memory since all the photos I shoot hog up the memory (I already use an ext. hard drive to back up, but I like to have photos in the actual computer). I would like to keep it under 14'' since I will be carrying it to school, but above 12''. I currently have a Vaio 14"' laptop that I hook up to a 23" monitor (The screen blew out) Here are the ones I am interested that I have seen. Please help me choose. I'm not too computer savvy.Let me know if there are some poor choices or if there is something better. The top 3 laptops would be good to know out of these. Voting Question: Seeking some suggestions. Core i7 Laptop purchase.?

I am going to very soon be buying a corei7 based laptop. As you would be able to figure out by my choice of the processor, I am banking on supreme performance. But along with that I am also looking for my best options in terms of looks, weight and battery life. I am looking at the following models : 1) Sony vaio F series 2) Hp dv6t quad 3) Hp HDX 16 I know that the hdx is no longer available and does not have core i7, but still looks very pretty. Is there a way to buy hdx (with p8800 processor) now ? But among 1) and 2), which is the better option ? I see that sony has keyboard backlight whereas hp does'nt. But HP is more aesthetically pleasing. In terms of overall value, what would you recommend ? Any other laptop suggestions (core i7) are also welcome. My budget is around 1200 $ max. Alright... I'm buying a new laptop but I know pretty little about laptops/computers. I know things like ram and all but at least last time I went to buy a laptop I came across a lot of other stuff that for the most part went over my head. The time has come when I need to say goodbye to my old PC, because it's just too old. So I need some help on which laptop to buy. I use almost all adobe programs, Photoshop, After Effects, Audition, Flash, Dreamweaver,... For making movies and things... And I also love to play games, but mostly The sims 3 (when I play it on my old PC, the game is really really slow).
