I have an old Compaq Presario S5000 Desktop PC from 2003, and it's been 7 years since I've touched it. Ever since I've gotten a laptop 3 years ago, I've used it for most of the things. But, alas, the graphics card is integrated, and I don't want to purchase a new motherboard solely for a laptop that's going to overheat faster than an ordinary desktop. My father got me the Compaq Presario S5000 when I was younger. It was prebuilt, so most of the things shouldn't be customized. I need to know what parts go with what. I'm planning on getting 2 gigs of RAM and a new graphics card, but I need to know exactly what type of graphics card to get for it. http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/hp-intros-compaq-presario-s5000/ This is the link to most of the information. I just want to know what type of NVIDIA or AMD card to put in. I just want to play decent games without hiccups. I'm also willing to replace the entire motherboard. (This computer does not have a soundcard). I have no idea what I'm doing - my friend told me he could fix it all up if I got the right parts. So, if anyone could link me to the proper parts that would work with my desktop, put them in links here. I'm willing to pay up to $200. moreVoting Question: Buy a new motherboard or just buy a new laptop?

I have an HP Pavilion series tx1119us with a 1.80 GHz AMD Turion processor and 2GB of RAM. (I'm not sure how big the hard drive is because I can't seem to find that anywhere.) It was purchased in June of 2007. It has some problems with it: - Overheating, which can fry the motherboard. The motherboard needs to be replaced if this happens. - The speakers make a raspy noise on-and-off. - When Windows asks for permission from the administrator to continue, the screen goes blank for a few seconds and then comes back on. - It needs to be plugged in all the time because the battery no longer works. - It's not under warranty anymore. It's been kept in good condition and I've never spilled anything on it. It originally cost $1250. How much could I sell it for now? moreResolved Question: my motherboard is burned.now what?

Hello, I have an HP Pavillion Dv 1000 that shuts down after a few seconds after XP setup disk gets to the point where you can load a new OS or do a repair. I can let it boot to the BIOS and it will stay there forever without shutting down. I tried taking the hard drive out and the same thing happens completely shuts down after it setup gets to the point of doing a repair. Does this sound like the CPU or motherboard? I recently got my laptop back from repair (motherboard, hard drive, and keyboard replaced). I formatted the hard drive first thing, updated with all security, driver, etc. updates, and upgraded from Vista 64x to 7 64x (again). The issue at hand is that sometimes when I listen to music or watch a movie and have my headphones plugged in, the sound will switch from the headphones to the speakers to the headphones to the speakers to the headphones for a few seconds. I thought that it might have been caused by the sound card driver update, so I went to the Hewlett-Packard Web site and downloaded and installed the driver update they had up for my computer model for Windows 7 64x. The problem seemed to have been fixed, but happened once more a few hours ago; however, this isn't as much as compared to the update I had done before. (Please keep in mind that the sound does not come out of both the speakers and the headphones, it switches between the two.) For some reason I think this has happened before, but I am not quite sure. The updated that I downloaded from the HP Web site said that the update also included the issue that happens with my laptop's model and Windows 7 where sound continues coming out of the speakers, regardless of external speakers being plugged in via headphone jack. How might I be able to fix this? And what might cause this to happen? System specs as follows: Windows 7 Home Premium 64x Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P8600@2.40GHz nVidia GeForce 9600M GT IDT High Definition Audio COD (version 6.10.6207.0) nVidia High Definition Audio (used with HDMI output) 6GB RAM 380/451GB HDDLaptop is a Hewlett-Packard Pavilion dv7-1285dxAnd I meant that update from the HP Web site said that the update FIXES the issue of sound continually playing out of the speakers. moreResolved Question: My HP laptop won't turn on at all!?

i use flashmedia live encoder 3 to broadcast to livestream, it has a few bugs too i think it crashes a lot or freezes when adjusting settings with sound input through usb or camera etc. My main problem is my laptop overheating and turning itself off midway through a broadcast, ive done a bit of research into cooling mats and fans and i know that i need a certain cooling tool for my spec lappy. Mine is a hp pavillion dv9500 laptop and is 2 years old, its served me extremely well for a laptop and it now has a new battery and plug lead which i needed to replace. More recently when shutting down due to overheating ive noticed that it isnt as hot as it was so now im worrying it might be something else like the memory being overworked and the motherboard, thats why my last question was about unistalling random stuff, which i got very helpful info from by the way and thank you everyone on answering that but now i need to work out what i need to do to stop my pc from overheating, I already have it balanced on top of things that allow air to pass underneath and no im not covering the vents im not that stupid lol. But any constructive feedback please oblige im at my wits end with this one lol, i have to broadcast my radio shows its part of my life i love it and if i have to take a break from it to save up and buy a new one, so be it but i just want to know my options, thanks. :) moreResolved Question: I would like to upgrade my graphic card on hp pavilion dv 5 1106 ax laptop. Here's the thing. Whenever i play any MMORPG my laptop tends to heat up like crazy. I'm not sure of the exact temps, but it's around 80-90 Celcius, Probably closer to 90. Also, my CPUs arent the only things that heat up. My GPU also does. What is wanna know is if there is ANY possible way for it to heat up less. If it helps, the main game i wanna play is Flyff. The main laptop specs: Hp dv4t Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Intel core 2 duo @2.26 GHz 6 GB DDR3 RAM 512MB Nvidia GeForce G 105M 500GB Hard Drive 7200RPM If it helps, here are the details about the graphics card accord to HWINFO32. So I got my laptop in July so it's only 6 months old and from the beginning every so often when I would go to boot it up it gives me this black screen message "Boot Device not found. Please install an operating system on your hard disk. Hard Disk - (3F0) F2 System Diagnostics, for more information please visit..and it lists hp's website." Now, i've hit F2 and did the hard disk test and it said hard disk not found. and i did the other two, Memory test and run in, those passed, but it would keep sayiing hard disk not found. I can get my laptop to boot up after turning it off and back on again. I just got my laptop back yesterday because the motherboard died. (thank goodness for my awesome 3 year warrenty i got!) so i thought maybe the hard drive wasn't put back in securely. So my dad took it out and put it back in (its the kind that plugs into the motherboard and then theres a few screws. no wire hookups or anything) but I still get that no hard disk detected message. It asks me to insert start up discs into the drive and press any key, but i have no idea what those discs even are. I've been working on backing up everything in case it is dying, but I don't want to be paranoid all the time, and it's starting to do it more often. My dad is pretty good with computers, but doesn't know what this message means. I would be so grateful to anyone who might know. Thought I would try here, and I'm thinking about calling my uncle who's a computer pro as well, and if all else fails calling HP as a last resort.heh well, this is my second laptop, my first one was a Compaq presario...killed the hard drive in it, replaced it, then my screen died, so instead of paying a huge sum to replace it i got a new computer, but kept the hard drive, which is now my backup drive. So naturally when we got the new one my dad made sure we bought the extended 2 or 3 year warranty for any future problems. Will be taking it to where I got it (Frys..my dad's favorite electronic store haha) hopefully they can run some kind of diagnostic on the spot to see what the problem is. moreResolved Question: Can my Laptop have a Quad Core Processor?

Well I have an HP Pavilion a1630n that has an ASUS A8M2N-LA (NodusM3-GL8E) Motherboard that come integrated with a NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE Graphics card. First I thought the MotherBoarded crashed, because when you unplug the P1 Cable(24 Pin connector from Power supply to the Motherboard), the light on the back of the power supply comes on, That's when everything else is plugged in also(Computer is 100% plugged in, even to motherboard). But when it is plugged in, the green light on the back of the power supply goes off. Anyway, after spending $80 on a new motherboard(Replacement, it's exactly the same type, NodusM3), and plugging that in, I still have the exact same issue. So the only other thing I can think of left to try is a new power supply. The only problem is, I was looking around, and found out that some graphics cards require higher wattage to work. The power supply that came with the computer is only 300watts(http://h20141.www2.hp.com/Hpparts/Search_Results.aspx?mscssid=414A2186FB07400E9321B50030BB0B10&SearchIn=Product) Basically all of this stuff is kind of outa my league... So if anyone could help me by telling my the wattage of the graphics card(Im guessing it wont matter if I buy a $20 replacement, because that's what it came with, and that worked for about a year till the computer crashed) and maybe what would be a good power supply to buy instead. -Thank you soooo much. I really wanna get this computer up and running as soon as possible so I dont have to use my crappy laptop for games...(55GB Harddrive, 512MB of RAM... New computer anyone? =/) moreResolved Question: laptop battery PLEASE help me 10points*****?
hi, ok i have an acer travelmate 2420. now, the system is like 4 years old and about a few months ago the battery slowly died until it died completely and wouldnt charge at all. at this time the original charger stopped working about a month before (still had short battery life when used this AC adapter).......so one day i plugged in my sisters HP adapter and up to now it works fine in my acer exept it shuts the laptop off if i pull it out. so.......by using this AC adapter.....did i potentially ruin my motherboard? or did i ruin anything???? i assure you everything works perfect and there has been no random shutting off or surges of any kind...but still......could anything be damaged becuz of this?? PLEASEEEEE i will give you ten points for helping me thanksss.....btw the new battery and charger comes tomorrow and this just ran thru my mind..how convenient -_- moreResolved Question: VISTA BSOD?????????????
Okay so I am having a blue screen of death in windows vista 32 bit and its strange because I think its either the RAM, the motherboard, or the power supple. Now i have an hp pavilion notebook dv6408nr and I have gotten various BSDs or whatever you wanna call em. one of them has been DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE stop 0x0000009F which i could read perfectly but i only had it once but usually i can't read them easily because they are all blurred those included MEMORY_MANAGEMENT stop 0x00000001A (bla bla bla) and IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL stop 0x0000000A and probably more which I haven't written down. Now I installed new ram from OEMPC world and have never had a problem from there before, but also sent it in because there was a recall with a faulty part of the mother board so it could be a problem with that but it was done officially by hp so it is unlikely but possible. Then it could be the battery/charger of the laptop because the battery doesn't last longer than a couple minutes when unplugged and the charger has a rip in it and you can see some wires and doesn't have a very tight or very good 'earth' connection to the DC Jack. So i've run memtest/memory diagnostic and i've gotten no errors but once it just turned off but i think that might have been the power supply error i just didn't notice until then so faulty ram is a very good possibility? could someone tell me what they think of a problem w/ the motherboard they replaced or soemthing what could it be on there or someone explain why the BSOD are blurry??? And i know its hardware b/c i reinstall the OS so i ruled out drivers b/c i've also updated everything before and its been to avail. Does anyone know any other way to test ram or any way that you can push your ram use to 100% b/c it only comes up once every 8 hours or so so its hard to tell if i've fixed it but it seems to come up when you start up new programs and sometimes those programs use up a lot ram i'm guessing but sometimes it might just take time to store it in a faulty part of the ram b/c its happened before with just firefox open (actually many times) any help is greatly appreciated. It doesn't happen on start up/shut down except that driver power state failure but i feel like that was a one time thing. Most helpful thing would be a way to push my ram to the limit to see if the problem is fixed or not. moreVoting Question: Usb ports malfunctioning?
I think im screwed....Starting today my USB ports are completely jacked: 1) my wireless USB mouse wont work at all. 2) my external HD only works if i plug it before i turn the computer on, if i plug it in after windows has started up then it wont even recognize this 3) i keep getting "usb device not recognized" and "windows couldnt find drivers for this" even though i dont have anything pluged in at all 4) its not a software issure because i had windows 7 and recovered to windows vista (factory os) and still same problem. I also tried linux (ubuntu) and encountered similar problems. 5) its an hp dv4 laptop and my 1-year warrenty expired last month... So what are my options? what part will i have to be replacing? Is there a thing just for USB that can be replaced or is it integrated in the motherboard? Is there somewhere i can take my laptop to be diagnosed..where i dont have to spend $100+ just for a diagnosis? moreResolved Question: Compatable Motherboard Question?
I need to replace the Motherboard in my HP laptop dv6119us. Part number is 443775-001. These are around $130 on ebay. However, Part Number 443774-001 is about half the price on ebay($65). I had heard 443774-01 may be compatible with my 443775-001 but just wanted to make sure before I made the purchase. Thanks- moreVoting Question: Is it worth replacing motherboard for laptop?
The laptop model is HP dv 2700 (dv 2750ee). The problem was multiple colour lines appeared and sometimes it freezes. Taking long time to boot. Finally not booting anymore. Sent to the shop and said graphic card problem. Then said it's not. And gave back for they can't repair. Went to another shop. It won't boot up but all the light when starting up are functioning. What I mean is there's no light at all on the monitor. It's said that the problem is motherboard. And the repair price including motherboard replacement would be 180 pounds. What I'd like to know is if it's worth replacing it? Even if it's replaced, how would I know if they replace with new and old (used) one, right? Should I take a risk? Or shall I go for a new laptop? Thank you!I do not know how to repair by myself. moreResolved Question: I have an HP laptop dv6119us with a bad motherboard. Does anyone know how much its worth for parts AS-IS?
Motherboard just went out. I'm thinking of replacing it as I can pick one up for around $100 on ebay. But may just decide to sell AS-IS for parts. Does anyone know what this may be worth? moreVoting Question: Is there anybody out there having problems with their HP laptop?

its a hp pavilion ze4906us, ive tried lookin on youtube but it shows the harddrives that screw out, mines not like that, im pretty sure it slids out but i tried to slid it out and its really in there lol, idk if its jus stuck or theres a certain way i pull it out, i dont wanna break it, i need it out cause i need the files off it, and my motherboard is all messed up so it wont even turn on (well it does but only the lights come on, nothing else) also if i get it out i can hook it up to a desktop and boot from it to get my files, or boot from the desktops primary and jus get the files off the other hard drive, (either way can i get my files lol) moreResolved Question: Anybody else run into a problem with their HP laptop?
Well, I ordered a DV6T laptop, and after 1 day of use the disk drive stopped working. (was working fine the night before) I was on the phone with technical support for HOURS trying to correct the problem. Eventually the technician told me to take it to a Best Buy and have the Geek Squad take care of the problem, and they assured me that the issue would be easy to resolve. Well, I get there, and they could NOT resolve the problem. The problem was not just the disk drive, it was the whole motherboard. So pretty much the guy from the Geek Squad told me I had a defective laptop, and I would have to sent it back to HP. I am SO frustrated as I spent around $900 for this computer. We shall see what happens in 2 weeks, when I should supposedly be getting it back. Oh! And the technician I was on the phone with was actually arguing with me saying that it was unlikely that my motherboard is defective, when I had already had it diagnosed at a best buy, like HP told me to go do.
