I have 2 other laptops, one is a Mac and one is an HP exactly like mine. Both of those computers have no trouble accessing internet all around the house. My personal laptop has been having increasing trouble accessing the internet from more than about 25 feet away and is slow at that. If I'm right next to the modem all is well. But when I leave the room or God forbid, go down stairs, I have no connection. I have an 802.11g internal card. Could there be some sort of setting off on my computer? moreOpen Question: Why does my laptop sometimes not detect my wireless connection?
Recently, I found that my laptop's wireless connection is severed randomly for hours without warning. The laptop is an HP Pavilion zv6000 and I subscribe to SBC Yahoo. I use a Speedstream modem and an Airlink router. I also use a Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN device. Network Connections reads the status of the connection as "Not Connected". I tried restarting the connection over and over and nothing happens. My wireless network is clearly visible in the list of networks available to connect to, yet whenever I try to connect to it, the connection progress screen simply vanishes after a certain amount of time. I checked the modem and the router and all the appropriate lights were on (Power, Ethernet etc.). I tried rebooting the laptop and the modem/router multiple times to no avail. The hardware seems fine as the computer finds no fault in it and it still works at the moment. All jacks are plugged in appropriately and haven't been moved in months. Has anyone else encountered this? moreResolved Question: why is my dlink router no longer compatible with my hp latop?
I'm not very good with computers, but I have experienced this problem before and managed to fix it. My home network's system name doesn't show up on my list of available networking sites on my laptop. It says something about not having a valid IP configuration? and i have no idea what that means. Any ideas that you may have on why this isn't working would be greatly appreciated. thank youu. moreResolved Question: Can someone help me with my networking problem?
Hello, I have an HP a1610n Pavilion desktop that is having problems working on my network. This computer is running XP Media Center edition 2002 SP3 and the board is using the NVIDIA nForce networking controller with driver version 50.2.4.0 from Spring 2006. This problem arose when I upgraded my TV package to include PVR service. The new router/gateway they provided is a 2Wire 3800HGV-B model, that provides the TV signal as well as Internet. Once this router was installed, I could connect no problem with my laptop wirelessly and with the physical connection. However, I have not been able to load my Firefox browser properly with my HP desktop. Yahoo is my home page and it takes anywhere from 4-10 minutes to load (sometimes without all the graphics it usually has). I tried a sports website and it took over 20 minutes to load. Two calls to my service provider did not solve the problem, but I found that there is some connection. I was able to download a test file from their FTP site. The ISP's FTP site which is not graphic still took a minute to load. I was then told that my only option was to do a system recovery. Here's what I've done so far: I've been to Nvidia's website to download the latest driver (ver: 65.7.4.0) and it won't install on my desktop. It just stays in an infinite loop saying that there are already drivers present and asks to restart. HP's website for my desktop lists my current driver as the most recent one even though it's from spring 2006. My family has an HP Pavilion that is six months older than mine running the same OS with the same controller, however, the nForce driver is version 50.0.9.0 from July 2005. They have also upgraded to the same PVR service and have the same 2Wire router I have, but do not have the same issues as I do. In fact, they are still using their own router in conjunction with the new 2Wire router. I am sorry for the long post, but I wanted to provide as much information about the issue as possible. My questions are: What have I missed? Is it the network card? Should I try a recovery? (I've already backed up my data and will try downloading the 50.0.9.0 driver first) I could use all the help I can get. Take care, Blaine moreVoting Question: i have recently installed vista on my hp pavilion desktop a6433w. my wireless doesnt work..?

Hi, i've set up my dads officejet HP printer for everyones laptop & computer in the house and i've tested that we can all connect wirelessly to it and print etc and we all can perfectly fine. The problem is to do this we have to disconnect from the wireless internet then connect to the HP printer network if we want to print ( which will obviously disconnect us from the internet ) then if we want to go back onto the internet we have to disconnect from the wireless printer network and connect back to the internet. My question is, is there a way where i can make it so we can always stay connected to the internet and printer wirelessly at the same time or will we have to keep disconnecting and connecting to the ones we want at the time. Thanks for your help, sorry if i've confused you lol. x moreVoting Question: Problems connecting to my wireless network?
Hey, so I just bought a new laptop, an HP Mini 110, and now I'm having trouble connecting to wireless networks. I've tried connecting to two different networks already, and both of them only have "limited or no connectivity." It's not a problem with the network, since I'm already on it successfully with my old laptop, and I've already tried the connection repair (it fails because "the IP address cannot be renewed." And also, in the support tab, it says the problem is that "the network did not assign a network address to this computer." How can I fix this? Thanks!According to one of the answers, I should click network...where do I click this? How do I get there? moreResolved Question: Laptop ocassionaly wakes up from "sleep mode", I've tried almost everything. What could it be?
Since Microsoft has so many flaws, it has been impossible to find an answer that could help me with solving this problem. Any real educated answer is appreicated, please do not say "get a Mac" I do not have the money now. Anyways, I have an HP Pavillion dv6000 with Vista on it. This has been happening for over a year & I have no idea why. I have looked up answers online continuously, I've tried all the solutions I've seen on other peoples Yahoo! Answers, & they never work. I've also noticed that this only happens when I am in my dorm room at college, it NEVER happens when I am at home. At school I use a cable cord to connect to the internet, but at home I just have wireless internet through my router. About half the times I try to put my laptop to "sleep" or "hibernate" mode, it will either not do it & just stay on with a black screen OR it will go into that mode then all of a sudden wake up. It is so frustrating because the fan blows really loud & if I don't have the battery plugged in my laptop ends up being on all day & then dies. :| Here is what I have tried: *I unplug everything before putting laptop into sleep mode therefore the cabe & power cord are out along with any USB plug ins. *I have made sure that my "network adapters" are set to NOT wake up my computer *I made sure that Windows Updates does NOT update automatically so it won't wake it up. *I blocked my computer from searching for other internet connections & so other computers can't see me. *I checked the Event Viewer Log multiple times, it shows that the laptop had an "unexpected wake up", but for the wake source it says "unknown". I also sent this copy to Microsfot website, and it didn't have any solutions or help! PLEASE I need help, this really bothers me & because this happens I constantly (typically 2X a day) have to shut down my computer with the Power button (not good) since my laptop just sits there with a black screen & "awake", but won't let me do anything. If you need to know more details let me know, but please help me or suggest something else I can try because this is so frustrating! Thanks. moreResolved Question: Laptop help?!...........?
My windows vista HP laptop...was working fine today..then my cousin came and was trying to get my wireless connection on his computer..so I gave him the password and it didnt work so i decided to disconnect my laptop from the wireless..then when i put the password it went through then all of a sudden it says windows cannot connect to the network and i tried everything and it still didnt work but my desktop works with the internet fine..what should i do? moreResolved Question: How can I get my wireless network to work properly?
How do I fix my wireless connection? I have 2 laptops a Dell & an HP. My wireless router is a D-Link. The laptops both get internet just fine when plugged directly into the modem. When I try to use my wireless network, they allow me to surf the web for about 10 minutes, then stop working. Downloads go from around 300kb per second to 2kb per second. The wireless signal is excellent, yet the computers don't seem to be using most of it. I have a great signal, so signal is not the issue. I can't figure out what the problem is.I tried updating the firmware, but the format it comes in when I download it is (dlf.). I can't open it. moreVoting Question: Laptop wont work on wifi?

I own a 64bit HP Limited DV series laptop pavilion which had Vista as an original OS. Recently I completely restored my computer with Windows 7...(had to, i had another issue that upgrading wouldnt have fixed so I restored it completely with win7). My issue now is that I cant stay connected to the internet...its seems like the more I access internet wise e.g. several tabs open, several youtube videos loading etc. the more often it loses connectivity. I diagnose the problem and it comes back always saying its the "Default Gateway is not available"(a device that connects a local network or computer to a network. A broadband modem or router is usually the default gateway). So how do I fix this and what exactly is that??? Because I cant download an excessive amount of mbps or else it will trigger limited connectivity which is NO Internet connection! moreResolved Question: I need help connecting my laptop to my wireless access point.?
I just got an HP Touch Smart TX2Z Laptop for my boyfriend and it has Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit). I have a Westell Versalink Model 327W wireless router. I cannot connect it to the internet. It doesn't even ask for the Wireless Key (which there is one). However, my Acer Aspire One with XP works just fine wireless wise. I've tried manually adding the network to the computer and it still gives me the error that it cannot connect but does not give any solution. Please help! moreResolved Question: I don't want a computer virus! What do I do?!?
I've had my laptop for a year and a half. My dad and I both have HP Pavilion dv4-1220us Entertainment Notebook PC. He's had his computer for a little longer than I have. We both had Norton Internet Security for a year.. til it expired. I know it was supposed to expire in January of this year. I've been ignoring the pop-ups to renew Norton since then. So a few hours ago I got on a website to watch a movie -New Moon, in case your wondering- (please don't anyone lecture me about watching movies online) and this pop-up went up, that said something was in the network... I really didn't understand it. But it sounded like it was telling me that something was trying to get into the computer. The pop-up box said it might mess up files, get at passwords and documents, and something about a system... ..As you can see, I don't understand what it's telling me! And I'm freaking out! I'm so scared that I got a virus, or someone hacked into the computer, or messed with my files :```( and I don't know what's going to happen! What if I DID get a virus?! What's going to happen to my computer?! What do I do?!?!?!Whooooo! Yea! I talked to my almost-brother-in-law and he talked me through what I had to do. I shouldn'tve clicked "install anti-virus". It just gave me more problems, like you said. I un-installed "Anti-virus" and the (now- useless-because-of-expiration) Norton Internet Security. Then I installed Google Spyware Doctor (He's had it before and knows it's safe), and now... I'm SOOOOO happy. Life isn't a poisoned apple anymore! :D moreResolved Question: How Can we get sWindles XP Networking to Use the Hosts File?
We are plagued with browsers, (IE & Firefox) forever messing around with "Finding" or "Looking up" domain names - and usually failing to resolve the domains - so I have populated the Hosts files of each computer with the domain names of our frequently used web sites. There are times when this seems to work well, but there are also times when the browsers seem to ignore the Hosts file, and we're back to "Finding" or "Looking up" all the domain names. I can tell when the Hosts file is being used, because Hosts directs malware and other unwanted sites' domains to 0.0.0.0. If pages finally load under these conditions, it appears that the CSS formatting has gone missing, so everything is in black & white, arranged vertically, and left-justified. This occurs most frequently when a computer has just started up or has been idle for a few hours, but it doesn't occur every time. After doing several Repairs on a connection, it may begin to use the Hosts file, but not always. We frequently have to give up and restart a computer, and hope that we won't have to Repair the connection too many times afterward, to get Hosts lookup working. We used to have a problem with losing connections when switching users on a computer, but not since I added the Windows Registry entry to keep connections across sessions, so that isn't the problem. Computer #1: Toshiba Satellite; XP Media Center Edition SP3 Computer #2: Gateway 7330GZ (laptop); XP Home SP2 Computer #3: HP Pavilion; XP Pro SP1 #3 is a very early XP machine, with only 192 MB of available RAM, and #2 isn't much better, so I'm not inclined to burden them with the OS bloat of later service packs, considering that MyCrudSoft didn't bother to fix this problem in later service packs. I'm also not inclined to trade up to and learn how to cope with and work around a whole new set of malfunctions in a newer version of sWindles, with no assurance that MyCrudSoft has fixed the present malfunctions; after all, if they fixed this in Vista or 7, they should have deployed the fix in an update for XP.Andrew S: Thanks for that thought. I have considered it, since I do have a lot of domains populated. However, that doesn't seem to account for this problem occurring primarily after starting up the computer or after it has been idle. The computer should have more memory and resources available at such a time, with which to deal with that burden. I've also tried running with an empty Hosts file - or no Hosts file - and the older computers then run slower on the Internet, apparently due to loading so many graphical ads on sites like Yahoo! and Facebook. moreVoting Question: what do i need to connect my desktop computer to a wireless connection?

What I want to do is print directly from my computer (HP G71 with Windows 7) to my printer (HP photosmart C4580) without using a router. I take my computer and printer in my 5th wheel and I am not connected to the internet - but need to print out documents. Presently I have downloaded the Windows 7 drivers for the printer and I CAN print through the router of my home network. That is working very well, but can't print if router is off. I'm special ordering an HP laptop, for general use/multi-tasking (school + heavy Internet usage+ multimedia, etc.. I'm not a gamer) and it's between the HP Pavilion dv6t series (Core i3 (default) or Core i5) and the HP Pavilion dv6t Quad Edition series (Core i7 only). Besides the processors, the main differences are, of course, the battery ratings (4.5 hours (6 cell) and 3.25 hours (6 cell), respectively) and the Network Cards mentioned in the question. The Pavilion dv6t series comes with the Integrated 10/100BASE-T Ethernet LAN while the Quad Edition comes with the External 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN. Was originally gonna go with the Quad, but thought I'd try to get a cheaper machine (Core i5). Compared the specs and noticed the Network Card difference. If you can, please suggest a machine, of the two, and a hardware configuration, if you'd like, but the priority is which of the two Network Cards is better, overall (not in terms of speed, 'cause that's an obvious one). I turned it off, and took the battery out and when I turned it back on this screen came up: We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose Last Known Good Configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked. If a previous start up attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the Power or Reset button was pressed, or if you aren't sure what caused the problem, choose Start Windows Normally. Safe Mode Safe Mode with Networking Safe Mode with Command Prompt Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked) Start Windows Normally Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice. Seconds until Windows starts: 30 I tried all of these choices, but none of them worked. I tried to restart it, but that didn't work. Every time I click on one of the choices, the loading screen comes up, and then disappears, followed by a blue screen that pops up for a split second. I read other answers and they say to use a CD but this laptop doesn't take CDs. They also say to reinstall, but I don't know how to do that. Could you give me the steps to reinstall, or any other ways to fix this?! Thank you <3 moreResolved Question: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer?
Hello, all. I have an HP Pavilion ZV6130us Laptop I got from circuit city about 3-4 years ago. I was doing my normal browsing (email, myspace, facebook), and it seemed to be working fine until last night. I was going to watch a movie on it, but the sound card drivers malfunctioned. Whenever I double-clicked on the volume icon in the lower right taskbar, a prompt would appear, saying I would have to go into the settings and turn the driver back on (I'm not 100% sure of what it said). So I finished what I was doing, and turned it off like you are supposed to via the start menu. This morning, I received a blue screen stating the following: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation, or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption., and then restart your computer. Technical Information: *** STOP: 0X00000024 (0X001902FE, 0XF78CE47C, 0XF78CE178, 0X89CFB889) That's all it says. I'm not sure if the sound issue and this error coexist. From what I've been researching on Microsoft's support page, this error has to do with the NTFS HDD, or a corrupted file system/boot sequence. I could be wrong. On this blue screen, I don't have the option to push any buttons, therefore I have to turn it off by pressing the power button. It then loads up and tells me I can start up in safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last known good configuration, or start windows normally. I've been able to start in safe mode twice. It won't do it anymore, it just loads all of the drivers, and freezes. I can boot in safe mode with command prompt almost all of the time though. When I did load from the regular safe mode, I did a system restore to roughly 30 days ago, and still the blue screen existed. I've also loaded the setup screen by pressing F10 I believe it was, when the computer initially powers on. I ran both short/long HDD tests. They both passed. I saved changes, and exited. After that, the blue screen. Sometimes I get the blue screen, others, I get the boot from safe mode screen. It varies. I'm unable to do the CHKDSK /F and CHKDSK /R. It says that it can't. I've also inserted my WinXP cd and tried to do the repair option, no luck. It won't do that either. I was going to attempt the 'selective startup' option using MSCONFIG in the run command, but my next attempt, the safe mode wouldn't load, so I couldn't. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks. I can be more descriptive if need be. moreResolved Question: For $450, is a laptop with the following specs a good buy?

Hey everybody! One time I accessed the wifi internet of a friend of mine and it while i was surfing, the internet suddenly stopped. Now, my friend and i were playing a network game through wifi and it worked. After one game, we tried again but it did not work. I looked at the networks im connected to and it said that my network had "limited connectivity". Ever since then we can't access each other's laptop. (My laptop's HP) Any solutions? Thanks moreVoting Question: What kind of network should I choose if I have one "wired" desktop computer, printer and two wireless laptops?
I currently have one desktop wired to a broadband (1.5 megs) Roadrunner modem. Which router should I get if I want to have the flexibility to move the desktop away from the modem (to another room)? The printer is a wired HP LaserJet 4 that I will never get rid of. I also have a four-in-one printer that I only use for scanning and faxing - it can be wireless or wired by USB. I'm looking at a Linksys Wireless G broadband router with 4-port ethernet switch at Best Buy. Is this the best choice? And will I need anything else? moreResolved Question: My computer only runs in "Safe Mode", how can I fix it?(long)?
I have a Vista HP laptop, a couple weeks ago the "blue screen of death" started up but the computer was still working ok. I forget what exactly happened but I think it crashed(or froze) last week and I had to shut it down with the power button, when I started it back up I picked start in normal mode and it was just a black screen and after about 30 minutes I shut it down again and started it up in safe mode with networking. I went on to FB and asked some of my computer smart friends for help. Someone said to do a system restore and then do a disk defrag, so I did the system restore from a check point a week before, it seemed to be going fine but then it went back to the black screen. After a hour of looking at the black screen I restarted the computer and tried the restore again and left for town. When I got home the computer looked normal, so I tried to use it and it was going so slow I couldn't even restart or shut it down right, so I started it up in safe mode again. Pretty much every day I try to do at least one system restore and it just goes to the black screen or it's super slow after ward. Yesterday I did a system restore and it started up normal, was working fine and even said "System restore successful", so I was super excited and thought "I'll try to do a defrag now" as soon as I clicked on it... black screen, I let it sit and sit, and nothing happened, so I just shut it down. Now I just use Safe Mode all the time. I would take it to the computer place in town but when I took it in this spring for a "clean up" and to install and new anti-virus, it took them over 2 days and it cost $200 and two days later it started acting up and then froze. I was so mad and my husband said we weren't going to take it back there again. Does anyone have and tips to help me fix my computer or what else I should do?I originally paid $1500CDN for this computer less then 3 years ago. I bought it at Future Shop in the city (almost 2 hours away) and don't remember what kind of warranty I have on it. moreVoting Question: Dell laptop wont conect to the internet?
