Open Question: What is the average price of a palm pilot in Alberta Canada?
Hey everyone! I am a young author, but I don't own a laptop, so I have to write it all down in a notebook and then type it out. (And I usually write novels, so that a lot of pages to type out!) So I was wondering how much a palm pilot or any other cheaper version of a handheld computer costs. Actually, I only need it to contain a writer. Here's what I was wondering most of all: -Is there any store to buy one in the West Edmonton Mall? -What is the average price in alberta for both a palm pilot and a cheaper version? -What should I look for when I read the labels? -Is there a monthly charge on them? If so, about how much is it? Thanks for any answers! moreOpen Question: Is it cheaper to buy computer parts and build a computer with Linux OS?
I'm trying to build a computer by buying affordable computer parts, and then as a operative system, I will use Linux. Is because I have a good friend which can't buy a computer, but he needs it so badly to do his work, and as a gift, I want to make for him a computer where he can do the basic stuff as word processing and spreadsheets for his school. I took my laptop where he lives and I found free wi-fi so I'm going to put a wireless adapter to his computer so he can have free internet (he lives close to a motel with free internet). So, is it cheaper to buy a computer, or just buy the computer parts and build my own computer? Thanks for your help! moreOpen Question: Just curious on laptop configuration?
ok so ... i tried to convince my uncle not to get an alienware for me, cause he know's i like to edit and game alot. i was like... go cheaper someplace else. but he's got it stuck in his head that those will be crappy. though i know they aren't. what would be a good configuration of a computer like by dell or toshiba that would match alienware. cause i'd rather him not waste his money T.T i was thinking if i could find another laptop with same spec's it could sway him. thanks! moreOpen Question: How much of a price difference would there be between .4 GHz?
Yeah, I suck with computers. lol. I'm buying a new laptop soon and my mom got hers for a pretty good price of like $248 cause her friend knew how to find them cheap. She has a 1.6 GHz processor and I need a 2.0 GHz processor to get a game I want! how much of a price difference would there be between the two, and if there something I can buy to increase the GHz if necessary? thanksss yeah I probably sound stupid moreOpen Question: Is this a good computer for this price? Computer people please help!?
I was looking at the Acer AS4530-6823 Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 14.1" Notebook Computer and it seems kind of cheap for what I am getting but I don't know much about computers so it could have a crazy slow processing speed or something else that's ancient about it and thus why the price is $500 instead of $750. I know that it's 3gb RAM but it's also 320 hard drive and it has an internal webcam and wireless N technology plus it's an Acer which is a good brand and it's got a 14.1 screen which is what I wanted in a laptop. This is not the ONLY one I am looking at currently so I am not sold on it. Is this a good price for what I would be getting? Is there a reason why the price is lower? Is the processing speed good? Please someone who knows computers break it down for me. Here's the link btw to more details on this model: http://www.pcrichard.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=70098&parentCategoryId=4&categoryId=110000&subCategoryId=110020HP - Pavilion Laptop with AMD Turion™ X2 RM-72 Dual-Core Mobile Processor - Bronze Model: dv4-1225dx | SKU: 9167689 @ $599.99 ^ That is actually another one I was looking at. The RM-74 which is faster and white colored is actually 550 at Best Buy. I was going between that and the Acer. I only figured Acer might be better b/c it had wireless n instead of G. Guess not. moreOpen Question: Can anyone suggest a Laptop?

Hi, I have come across the shopping website, where in they say that we can watch 8000 TV channel worldwide, just by using the internet connection. Okay, I'm getting a new computer, but I really don't know where to begin. I need one that has A LOT of memory and will still run fast. I am a photographer so I am uploading thousands of pictures every week. Im leaning towards getting a desk top just because they are cheaper and more memory then laptops?? Thanks. moreOpen Question: What is a good laptop to play World of Warcraft and still work for college?
I am a Senior in High School and I want to be able to continue playing WoW once I graduate but I wont be able to take my computer with me (it sucks anyways), so I need a cheap computer that can play WoW, preferably something better then bottom level but not horrible on price, still do basic functions for college work, and I would like it to be a laptop. I haven't been able to find enough information on any laptops to find one that I would actually buy, so I was woundering if anyone who plays WoW on a laptop could let me know what they're using and how much it would cost for me to get one too. Thanks!OH, and I'm ok with getting a desktop if I have to, but I would much rather have a laptop so I could take it into my classes and take notes and be able to take it on trips. But, as I said earlier, I would much rather have a laptop if I can find one with good quality and good price. moreOpen Question: Sending a computer to Kabul, Afghanistan?

I am getting a laptop as a high school graduation present for college next year. I know a little bit about computers, but not enough to make the decision by myself. I have decided that I will go with an HP instead of the popular Dell and Apple laptops, for personal reasons. I have selected 2 laptops that both have received great reviews and are reasonably priced. Then I decided to customize them to what I think I will need, but now I have to make a choice and I have no idea! The laptops are as followed... G60t Series Operating System Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic with Service Pack 1 (32-bit) Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T6400 (2.0GHz) Memory 3GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) Hard Drive FREE Upgrade to 250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive from 160GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive Graphics Card 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GE Final Price: $698.99 dv6z Series Operating System Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit) Processor AMD Turion(TM) X2 Dual-Core Mobile Processor RM-75 (2.2GHz) Memory 3GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) Best for running Windows Vista Premium or Vista Ultimate Hard Drive FREE Upgrade to 320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection Graphics Card ATI Radeon(TM) HD 3200 Graphics Final Price: $629.99 Now it seems like the obvious choice would be the cheaper one, but I have a few questions that have hindered my decision making process. The dv6z has an AMD Turion processor and the G60t has an Intel Duo processor. The AMD Turion is faster by 0.2 GHz and seems like the no brainer; however Intel Duo processors seem to be more superior when compared to the AMD Turion. Does it really matter? Another major difference between the two laptops is the graphics card. I am not looking for a powerful card to play games like Call of Duty 4, Fallout 3, or any other demanding games. I already have an Xbox 360 to play games like that. I am looking to play the classics such as Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 and Command and Conquer smoothly. \ Finally, I have no real knowledge of Vista. I love XP and never really took the time to upgrade. I am looking to upgrade to Windows 7, but obviously that is not out to the public yet, so Vista will do until then. The G60t had Vista (32 bit) and the dv6z has Vista (64 bit). What is the difference between the two operating systems? Another question I have about the 64 bit version is how much memory with I need? The HP website makes it sound like that 4GB of memory/RAM is needed to run the 64 bit version of Vista. Do I need to opt for 4GB or is 3GB fine? Thanks for reading this rather lengthy question and any advice is greatly appreciated! James moreOpen Question: Is it absolutely necessary to buy a MAC for graphics design?
I'm going to go to graphic arts, computer arts, and maybe a side of game creation but i have never bought a laptop in my life. My friend has been ranting how bad macs are and i kinda believe him. They seem to pass my budget of 2000 and all they can do is computer arts, i would have to buy vista separate for a extra 300 added to the price of 3200 of the mac which scares me if i have to get it. If i get a credit card and not get vista i wouldn't be able to play any of my games or programs i have, but it runs photoshop a lot smoother then my friends pc and it looks nice, i was looking at a gaming computer as a alternative from other companies but my other friend who dose graphics design says I'm going to need one if i want to continue it into a career and it would be difficult just using a pc; she advises both mac laptop and pc desktop. Is their a cheaper alternative or should i just screw it and use the credit card?I heard of mac having no virus problems but my pc has never had a virus problem before so im not concerned about that. moreResolved Question: Is there any way to get windows onto a boot disc if windows came on the computer?
Well I was thinking of getting a laptop when windows 7 comes out and apparently its cheaper to get one with windows 7 already installed on it than to buy a boot disc. However I want to install linux on my laptop and then within the linux os install windows 7 into VirtualBox. I'm quite new to linux but to do that you would need a boot cd right?, is there anyway to turn your pre-installed windows 7 into a windows 7 boot disc. moreOpen Question: can i put more video/graphics and stuff on my HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop?
Well on my laptop i've noticed i couldnt play games like Zoo Tycoon 2 and Runes of Magic. I didnt know why because when I used to put games on my PC i never had to check if it had a high enough graphics on it. But while looking up "The Sims 3" i found this list of requirements "FOR WINDOWS XP * 2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent * 1 GB RAM * A 128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0 * The latest version of DirectX 9.0c * Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 * At least 6.1 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB of additional space for custom content and saved games" While looking around on my computer I found that it has a 1.8 GHz processor (idk what the P4 means in the requirements) 2 GB of RAM (so im good there) (idk where to find the Video Card but i know its not enough) (idk what DirectX 9.0c is) (im pretty sure i have the microsoft pack 2 thing) and i have 12.2 GB left on my laptop so i know thats fine. So is there any way i can get some one (like a buisness) to put the required stuff i need into my laptop? If so how much would it cost. If it costs a lot, would it be better for me to just build my own PC with indevidual parts since that is a lot cheaper then buying a complete PC. Thanks for your help! moreOpen Question: What is a good solid computer these days?

Im pretty much familiar with computers enough to be able to install sound drivers etc as I have built all of my computers but this problem has really done my head in :@ heres my spec: Motherboard: Asus P5N-E SLI CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4GHz Native RAM: 4GB @ 800MHz GPU: nVidia GeForce 8600GT 1GB Sound: Creative SB! After installing all the drivers and finding everything worked (including on board sound) I decided to install XP Pro instead as I didnt like Vista. I installed all the drivers again fine and the onboard sound didnt work. The driver installs fine (Realtek) and the icon comes into the system tray but no sound comes out of the speakers. i left it at that and put in a sound card and used the sound thru there fine. Lately ive seen allot of tablet PCs getting big discounts. And I was thinking in waiting until the end of the year to buy one. should i wait? Lately ive seen a very good spec t2z from hp for less than 750 dollars... is their any reason for this reason for this drops in price? Im thinking they are either just dropping in price in general for tablets and they will maybe just get cheaper by the end of the year without much else to think about. or they are about to make a big upgrade to the hole line of tablets in hp and i might be better of waiting for it until the end... its not urgent or anything.. my current laptop works perfectly fine (except for a 3 minute battery). I want the tablet for e-reading, help fixing other people's computer, college work, games, and comfortable multimedia experience that comes with the tablet factor and probably gps navigation with an external adapter... so basically ill need something that will last for at least 3 years in the technology side of things (meaning it wont feel sort of old and obsolete hardware wise with in the first 6 months). weather it will last that long with such heavy use might become a miracle. and i might have to upgrade to a bluray reader/writer at some point. good thing of amd is you can upgrade the processor to a newer one without having to change the hole motherboard... Also i know theirs a new amd processor codename fusion coming out in 2H of 2011.. so if i buy the laptop at the end/beginning of 2010 it might stay relatively good compared to the current market for 1 and a half years... Tho i guess i could save up during that time to buy a 30nm fusion based tablet or nvidia's, intel's countermeasure moreVoting Question: Help? Computer i need help?

How can I turn my computer into a TV?
I am going away to college in the fall and I will be living in a dorm. I do not want to bring my TV. Is there a way I can make my HP dv9000 laptop into a tv and get cable on it? Also I know I need a HDMI cable to hook the PS3 to the computer, but can someone give me a good price and where to find a cheap but high quality one in the Dallas Metroplex? Step by Step processes work best for me! Especially when talking about how to connect the HDMI cable and whatever is necessary to get my computer to be a TV.... I don't need a step by step to find a store. I'm not that dumb. Thanks a bundle! moreVoting Question: mini laptops, best cheap basic ones?
Hi! I want to buy a mini laptop for college, but not willing to spend more than about 350euro if possible. Are there any out there? I just need a basic one, the most important thing to me is that it has the up to date microsoft word! I find that most dell notebooks/computers (vista anyway, not sure about the rest) have microsoft WORKS, so when typing up an essay or anything, it turns out weird on other computers. Any good suggestions? cheap, looks nice, preferably with cd/DVD drive...but i don't think any of the small ones have them so that's not very important. Thanks! moreVoting Question: What is the strongest but cheapest computer?

I'm thinking of the Vostro A90, or the Inspiron 15 (not counting the netbooks). These are computers that are in the 300-400 dollar range...yet I had to notebook shop not more than 4 months ago and these were nowhere to be seen. What's with all the new, cheap laptops? Are they any good?Yeah, I ended up getting a pimped out Dell Latitude 4 months ago, back when the E5500 base price was like 700. Brought it up to about 900, that thing works beautifully. I've also noticed the new E5500 are a couple hundred dollars more expensive than they were before these super cheap ones were released... moreVoting Question: i just need to know what is the name of a cheap broadband router that i can hook up to my laptop?

I need a school for college that I'm hoping to get four years out of. I'm stuck between a Dell XPS M1530 or HP's dv5tse. Money is not really a concern now because I want to get the best laptop possible. Also I'm hoping to be able to dock the computer in my door to a monitor and keyboard. Idk who I can trust more, Dell or HP. I have all Dell's and I am satisfied. I have never had an HP, I hear some bad and good things about them, but they seem cheaper. Please help me decide!!! moreResolved Question: Could you help me build or buy the right computer?
I've been in technology a long time, but I'm a little intimidated by finding compatible hardware. I've swapped a lot of hardware but have never built from scratch. Budget is a big issue. I can get the laptop I want for $800, which of course includes vista. I kind of miss using a desktop for some reason, though! I'd spend far less on a gaming desktop than I would an Asus gaming laptop, though. I do medium gaming. Gaming is important to me, but I don't play online much (if at all) and the latest and greatest games aren't overly important. I'm more into civilization, the sims, spore . . . I picked up assassins creed and bioshock and wouldn't mind playing themn, but it doesn't make or break my build. I also put my computers through quite a bit. I can't imagine how many hours I've gotten out of my poor ancient desktop, nor how many times I've patched it up or upgraded it! I don't even watch television--most of my entertainment is on my computer. Oddly enough, I care very little about HDMI, and my 9-year-old Harmon Kardon speakers are wonderful. I want a motherboard that's upgradeable. I pushed the poor desktop I have now for five years, and if it weren't in such poor health it would still run circles around many newer machines. I did nearly all of it for free, too. Alas, I no longer work for a place that lets me repurpose the broken computers. Obviously I want a motherboard that rocks: DDR3 compatible or being able to take a ton of DDR2 in several slots is important. Plenty of PCI-E ports and the like, also important. I'd like at least a dual-core processor with a nice clocking speed. My single-core processor with a wicked clocking speed got me by for a very, very long time. I wouldn't mind getting a slower processor now if my motherboard were compatible with more powerful processors for the future, though. I love it when newegg or tiger direct have build kits, and wish there were more of them available! I don't believe in buying the BEST technology now because it will be so much cheaper in a year or two, but upgradeability is king in desktops! I really know so very little about motherboards and the processor, graphics card, and PSU that is most compatible with them. Or is it cheaper to buy a cheap desktop and upgrade it now? Or buy one the way I like it? This was all easier when I simply repaired good computers and kept them. :-P moreResolved Question: Any recommends for a $600 or less laptop?
So I want to buy a laptop that serves two purposes. I need it to be professional and good at college work, since that is what I will be using it for generally. This means I dont want it freezing or crashing because I have five or six microsoft applications up as well as a browser full of resource sites. The second purpose I want it to serve is as a good gaming laptop. Nothing major, just better then the 20 fps that I get now with the lowest graphics in S4 League. I want it to last for a while and not go obsolete in the next two or three years, longer if possible. Now, Im on a budget of $600(Less if I can get it cheap yet good). I want it to be a laptop, and I dont want the screen bigger then 17 inches, preferably less because I dont want to be carrying around a large laptop during college. I also prefer the Windows running systems. If you guys and girls can be of any help, recommending a laptop or recommending a website where I can learn more, that would be a lot of help. I've talked to the salespeople at Best Buy on what they recommend, but they didnt have the kind of computer I wanted in the store. Any other stores I can check? Thanks for your help~ moreResolved Question: Cheap laptop recommendation for my husband in Iraq?
My husband is in Iraq and I would like to buy him a laptop for Father's Day so that he can email and skype with me. The most I could spend would be $500, but I would like to spend as little as possible. Currently he has no way of answering my emails and he only talked to me once on Skype because he has to borrow his friend's computer. I don't care if the computer lasts longer then his time in Iraq ( 9 more months), but I would like it to have a webcam and be fairly easy to use. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should buy? moreTop Laptop Computers Cheap Links
